Diego Pillco, a 19-year-old illegal immigrant from Ecuador, confessed to the killing of 40-year-old married mom and actress Adrienne Shelly, who recently wrote and directed the movie “Waitress,” starring Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion.
As he was working a construction job in her building on the 1st of November, 2006, she complained to him about the noise.
Pillco was renovating an apartment directly below the apartment that Adrienne Shelly used as an office when she came down to complain about the noise.
They began to argue, screaming at each other.
The Ecuadoran immigrant got so upset that he threw a hammer at Adrienne.
Fearing that he might be deported, he followed her upstairs when she threatened to call police.
When they reached her door, Diego Pillco said Adrienne Shelly slapped him. He responded with a single punch that knocked her out. According to Diego, when he was unable to detect a heartbeat, he dragged her to her bathroom to stage a suicide.
While he was doing that, he made the mistake of standing on the toilet, on which he left behind a sneaker print that cops used to tie him to the crime.
The sick thing is, Adrienne Shelly wasn’t dead when Diego Pillco strung her up on the shower rod.
According to the autopsy, what really happened was that the construction worker tied a sheet around her neck, dragged the unconscious woman to a bathroom and strung her up while she was still breathing.
Then Diego Pillco left the building and calmly went to work at another job site, leaving the woman to die.
The medical examiner made it crystal clear that she died from compression to her neck.
According to prosecutor Marit Delozier:
This is an exceptionally egregious case.
Extra points to prosecutor Marit Delozier for using the word “egregious.”
