28-year-old Pedro Rodriguez married Deysi Benitez in 2002, buying a townhouse in Frederick Maryland and raising a family.
Pedro was working at Masonite International Corporation in Frederick, although he was going to be losing his job soon, due to layoffs.
Deysi Benitez worked odd jobs, mostly at a local restaurant.
Times got tough, and during the year of 2006, there seemed to be a little less bliss at the household, with police being called to the townhouse eight times for a variety of matters like parking issues, noise, verbal disputes and disorderly conduct. A sister of Benitez has said Benitez told her Rodriguez beat her. Rodriguez’s family members have said Benitez was unfaithful.
On March 26th, 2007, a liason worker from the eldest girls’ elementary school came to the townhouse to see why the girls hadn’t shown up for school. When there was no response to her knocks at the front door, she called the police.
When police arrived, they found a house of horrors.
The mother, Deysi Benitez, was nowhere to be found.
She hadn’t, in fact, been seen since March 18th of 2007 and is still missing as of July 8, 2007.
Pedro Rodriguez was found hanging in his townhome foyer with cuts, bruises and scratches on his arms, thighs and back. The yellow cord that killed him was cutting deeply into his neck.
His four children - Elsa, 9, Vanessa, 4, Angel, 3, and Carena, 1 - were found dead in their beds with blankets pulled over their heads.
Three of them had been smothered to death, the boy had been killed by a hard blow to the head.
It’s been speculated that Pedro killed all the children and the mother, hid her body somewhere, and then hung himself.
It has also been speculated that Deysi is roaming around the world somewhere with an accomplice who assisted her in the murder of her family.

Update:
The remains of Deysi Benitez were found on the 29th of February, 2008, in a crude grave 20 miles from the home where her husband killed their four children and himself. DNA confirmed the remains were those of Deysi Benitez, but admit they have no idea how the Salvadoran immigrant’s remains ended up in that grave.

Why do these assholes always feel they just HAVE to take the kids with them? I can almost understand being so pissed off at the old lady that you snap and bad things happen (almost), but why the little ones? That’s what takes this from just a crime, just a murder, to something evil. I wish the suicide hadn’t taken…this asshole deserved a long life living with what he did.

By the way - they found Deysi about a month or two ago. She was about 30 miles from her home. Dead, of course. This is a local one for me.

I guess there really isn’t a niche here. I just thought about Radovan Karadzic. I wasn’t really feeling that one as it’s not my interest. But it was a good read. And it drew out a different group of commentors.

BTW - these were not all-star parents. These kids were always outside - not properly dressed and unsupervised. The house was pretty sloppy toys and bikes left all over the place.
Frederick is a strange place right now. We tore down the public housing in the downtown, and dispersed all the Section 8 tenants into the neighborhoods. So instead of a big ghetto, we have a lot of formerly nice family neighborhoods with a few trashy people in them. And of course one or two trashy families is all it takes.
The week after this one, we had another hispanic guy take his 2 kids out to a field and kill them and himself, to teach his wife a lesson.
I don’t know if it’s a “hispanic” thing, but it seemed coincidental to me.
