A U.S. Air Force major has been accused of asking a 15-year-old Utah girl he met in an Internet chatroom to have sex with him. Reinaldo Canton, 43, who used the screen name steel_pony_63, was arrested Wednesday at Layton Hills Mall after he showed up for an arranged meeting with the teen, who actually was an adult undercover agent. He was charged Friday by the U.S. Attorney’s Office with coercion and enticement for illegal sexual activity, which carries a 10-year mandatory minimum sentence and could put him behind bars for up to 30 years.
Canton works at the space development and test wing of Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, according to Jillian Speake, director of public affairs at the New Mexico facility. She said the major was on temporary duty at Hill Air Force Base in Utah. Speake said no action has been taken against Canton this early in the case and stressed that he is presumed innocent.
The federal charging document alleges that Canton had a series of chats with the “girl” from mid-March until his arrest and also sent photographs of himself during these talks. He allegedly suggested meeting at the Layton mall on Wednesday and returning to his Ogden hotel to have sex.
Canton said he could be identified because he was going to buy a drink and pizza at the mall food court and likely would be wearing layered clothing.
According to the charging document, Canton said he went to meet the girl to see how Internet safety programs work and planned to ask the teen why she was sneaking around behind her parents’ backs. He denied that he would have participated in sexual activity with her and said he would have told her that the Internet is a “scary” place.

Do they trust 14 year olds with drivers’ licenses where you live? Because if we don’t trust someone with a car, a gun, or a fucking cigarette we shouldn’t trust them with a pedophile… er, older man.
Pedophilia = Attraction to prepubescent children (generally ages 10 and under)
Ephebophilia = Attraction to late adolescents (generally ages 15-19)
The man arrested is an ephebophile. And yes, the minimum age to get a driver’s license is 14 where I live. There are serial rapists and murderers that age (e.g., Craig Price or Jose Ignacio Avina). If someone that age can commit atrocities like those, I think they can simply consent. I think pedophiles are sick fucks, but the guy in this article didn’t do anything that would corrupt the girl.
Except we are talking about a US soldier on US soil. Was illegal, is illegal, will probably be illegal for a long time to come. I’ve worked around 14 year olds, some criminals. Of the 14 year old girls I’ve worked with, I think one might have been mature enough to make an adult decision, and she was adamant that she was not going to find a long term live interest while in high school because she knew there was a lot more the world had to offer beyond those four years. The rest were convinced relationships are like Justin Beiber songs, all happy and loving without a problem ever. The criminals were boys who were convinced they could change at 17 and stay out of the adult potential system, like they had a free pass until then. Guess where a lot of them are five years later. And they can be trusted with a 43 year old who has poor judgement himself?
I don’t give a fuck what you call it, the asshat was searching the internet for girls whose tits haven’t fully developed yet. That’s a predator, don’t even try to tell me his intentions were noble and he was looking for the live of his life.
How long has the age of consent been 14 where you are? It was lower around here before people realized that kids who have barely outgrown the playground probably shouldn’t be making a decision that might result in a baby. Maybe 14 year old girls are more mature where you are, but from my studies the age of maturity seems to be going up as society would rather kids get an education instead of marrying and starting a home as soon as puberty hits. “If she’s old enough to bleed, she’s old enough to breed” no longer applies, at least in the good old U S of A.
