  • Randy L. Rust

Ok seriously. 54-year-old Springfield, Missouri resident Randy L. Rust was losing it.

He had been a truck driver for a long time, but had lost his job recently.

And you know…Mr. Rust was starting to get some wrong ideas popping into his head.

There are too many people that, if left alone, their behavior could eventually hurt someone.

You can say, “Hey, at least he hadn’t acted on these fantasies.”

My reply would be, “What if he had the chance?”

Randy Rust and his wife had divorced in 2005 and he was now sharing an apartment with a woman and her husband.

Being the snoopy creature that she is, this woman went through Mr. Rust’s bedroom and found a briefcase, which she opened.

    Some notes were inside.

    Interesting notes.

Notes that detailed why he had been acquiring whips, handcuffs and dog chains.

Notes with detailed plans on how he planned to kidnap, rape, kill and mutilate two girls, one four and one nine.

Notes that also detailed how Randy Rust was going to punish and kill his ex-wife and several of her relatives and friends - twelve of them, in fact.

The woman made copies of these notes and took them to police. What they saw on the copies alarmed them enough that they searched the apartment for the originals, which they found.

It was enough to bring Randy Rust in.

Charges of attempted kidnapping were filed, in connection only with the two girls.

Randy initially told investigators that he had written the notes, hoping to have them published in a pornographic magazine. Later he claimed that he had done the writing at the suggestion of a therapist.

Police spokesman Grant Story said, “This is some strange stuff, dangerous strange.”

How dare she snoop through his briefcase! This however begs the question of why an unemployed truck driver needs a briefcase in the first place. I don’t immagine he makes a lot of board meetings.

Odd man with odd fantasies. You know, if I acted on every fantasy in my head on a daily basis, I’d be quite the proficient polygamist. I’d also have lots of peanut butter and saran wrap.
