Convicted of killing Jeannette Dawson, his stepmother, with a claw hammer and torching her home after she interrupted a burglary.
Mr. Dawson broke in because he wanted cigarettes and money. He then went into a bedroom and began rummaging through dresser drawers.
His stepmother was sleep in the room and woke to see someone dressed all in black in her bedroom.
She, of course, screamed.
Mr. Dawson then proceeded to slam a hammer into his stepmother’s skull 15 times - after which he left her in the bedroom as he set fire to the house.
When questioned by police, he claimed that he was at a girl’s house, having sex. Of course, when the girl was asked, she said she hadn’t seen him in years.
He was arrested after he confessed to the killing and trying to set fire to her home to get rid of the evidence.
