Nobody can claim you’re gay if you kill everyone you play with.
21-year-old Nathaniel David Lundquist was at Linkester’s Tap Room in Polk County, drinking with a few friends, which included 26-year-old James S. Karelas.
As the drinking wound down, Nathaniel Lundquist and James Karelas figured that they’d continue the party elsewhere….together.
So at about two in the morning, the young twosome left the bar together in Lundquist’s car, with the intention being intending to drive over to Karelas’ house and engage in what folks in Council Bluffs, Iowa call “hot gay sex.”
The pair never got to Karelas’ house. They instead stopped on the side of Tri-County Road, a dirt road located off Highway 27 which happens to be notorious for being irresistible to same-sex couples looking for a little nighttime havoc.
There, according to Karelas, they had sex on the side of the road outside the car.
Who was on top and who was on the bottom, I haven’t been able to find out from the police reports, but Nathaniel Lundquist reportedly told Karelas that he “had to go get something,” got back in his car and drove off without his little gay friend.
That’s a pretty crappy thing to do.
Shortly after Lundquist drove off in his car, James Karelas saw a huge piece of construction machinery coming down the road with Lundquist behind the wheel. Karelas stood there and watched as Lundquist drove the machinery right at him, probably not quite believing what he was seeing. At the last minute he came to his senses and tried to jump to the side, but wasn’t quite quick enough to avoid being struck in the leg by the construction machinery.
James Karelas began screaming at Nathaniel Lundquist to stop and help him, as Lundquist cranked the wheel of the machine around to swing it back towards his ex-friend and try to run him over again.
Lundquist almost got him, but just hit Karelas on the leg again.
After being hit twice with the machine, James Karelas evidently came to his senses, scooted out into the dense underbrush off the road and hid from the maniac trying to run him over.
Nathaniel Lundquist swung the machinery around again, parked near where Karelas was hiding and yelled at him to come out.
Sensibly, Karelas refused.
Lundquist gave up, walked back to his car and drove off.
Karelas was able to find a worker at Championsgate - a golf resort which was nearby - who was nice enough to help him to a phone to contact the authorities.
Police arrested Nathaniel Lundquist and charged him with attempted murder.

Take it from someone who actually knew David Lundquist. Through High School, David was one of my best friends. I can tell you with a fair amount of credibility that he was not a homosexual. If you have enough talent to put yourself in someone else’s shoes you can see the actual story. The two friends where at the bar having some drinks, then they left. On the drive it would seem James who was in fact the only homosexual in the group made some moves on David. Being half intoxicated he may not have known what was happening, but when he regained consciousness must have been infuriated and attempted to kill his homosexual rapist. Trying to kill James may have been overdoing it, but I am sure a great deal of straight men would have overreacted when they regained consciousness of what was happening.
