From a reader: “Do you think we’ve gotten to a point where nothing shocks anyone anymore? How can so many people be so evil?”

Response: We’re only animals, and the only thing holding us back from a Hobbesian culling is some weird wiring in our frontal lobes that enables us to have conscious control over our base instincts. You know that saying, “Stress is the body’s natural reaction to the urge to strangle someone who so richly deserves it”?

    Well, there you go.

Sometimes the wiring goes awry, either by genetics or environment. At that point, you’ve got a problem.

I suspect that this kind of derangement is, was, and will always be with the human race, but nowadays we have CNN.

There is good and there is evil in the universe.

You have a choice. Weak-willed in-duh-viduals choose evil as it is easier. Those with moral fiber will always do the right thing. Sadly, the number of those who choose good over evil is dwindling.

Of course, that’s just my humble opinion.
