Abdul Rahman, a 52-year-old grandfather in India, had a problem.
He had four daughters, and one had just given birth to a little girl.
Much of India’s population still subscribes to the idea of dowries and such, making girl children pretty expensive, often bankrupting the families who try to buy a good marriage for the girls.
With four unwed daughters, Abdul Rahman just couldn’t take responsibility for another girl, even if it was just a granddaughter.
So Abdul took the two-day-old baby girl and buried his granddaughter alive in a nearby field.
Luckily for the baby, she was found by a local farmer, who noticed her tiny hand sticking up out of the soil.
Abdul Rahman has been arrested, and will probably be fined a goat or something.
It is estimated that over 10 million infant girls have been killed by their parents in India over the past 20 years.

It’s sad to know that the killing of baby girls is common in India. Apparently it’s so bad that the population is being severely effected by it. Or so I read..
