If there was an actual competition for the title, Devon Arlene Vega would be in the running for the “Worst Mother Ever” award.
Devon Arlene Vega gave up her 5-month-old daughter Angelina in 2003, stating she no longer wanted to take care of her. Fortunately for Angelina, she was adopted by a non-relative.
Ms. Vega gave birth to David Lee Graves IV in July of 2005.
A heavy smoker, Devon Vega smoked throughout her pregnancy. As a result, David was born with severe respiratory problems. Doctors instructed Devon Vega not to smoke around the baby.
In September, someone called child protective services and told them that Devon Vega was smoking around the baby. CPS looked for Vega for four months, but couldn’t find her until December, when they examined David and found nothing.
Two weeks later, 5-month-old David Graves was dead.
When police asked what had happened, Devon Vega told them that the boy had jumped from her arms the night before and landed headfirst onto a broken, rocky sidewalk.
But Devon Vega’s story didn’t add up. The coroner told police that the injuries David suffered couldn’t have resulted from a fall.
After being arrested, during interrogation, Vega admitted that she had beaten on her baby boy a number of times. She told investigators that she had dropped him repeatedly onto the floor, she shook him, threw him to the floor and beat on him with her fists. She smashed the baby’s head and broke his jaw.
David weighed just 11 pounds when he died.
In the mortician’s notes were written, “baby in bad shape.” There was a chunk missing from David’s leg that skilled technicians were able to cover with molded plastic and a special cream.
Devon Arlene Vega pled guilty to murder, and faced the death penalty. She was sentenced in June of 2007 to 40 years.

God. I just can’t see how people can do things like this to cute little innocent babies. Children depend on their parents and guardians to take care of them and love them, and then they’re turned on like this. It’s sickening. She deserves something worse than hell.
Well 2 days ago I picked up the sunday paper and started to read this article… I got so sick to my stomach. Never did I imagine that when I turned the page to read the rest of the article did I ever believe that it was someone I knew… Devon and I were best friends in 6th grade when we went to school together at Kingsborough Middle School… but we lost touch after I moved my 7th grade year… Being a mother my self to a 18mth and a 4mth old, makes me so furious as to who in their right mind would ever hurt someone soo innocent. She deserves to burn in hell for what she has done …. there is no excuse for ever hurting a child and it is sad that she will probably be released when she is 45 … and that makes me even more pissed off…..
maybe when she reaches 45 they shud give her the death penalty let her rot in jail for as long as possible then give her a slow painful death doing it humainly is farrrrrrr to good for her the dirty scum of a bitch

I’m thinking here that angelina got pretty lucky being adopted… Shame the evil sack of shit that is the star of this dreadful event could not of given this poor little chap up to someone who would love and nurture him instead of smashing his little body to pieces… Thats AFTER destroying his tiny lungs due to her selfish habit! Why are these worthless slags allowed to breed? I know thats a silly question, everyone has the right, but filth like this do not deserve precious little babies, they neglect the little minds and bodies and often like this lump of lard use them as punch bags… I feel like crying reading this story… ;(

Every story about a parent who kills their child has a truth and an excuse-bad childhood, poverty, drugs, abused woman, scared, even demon possessed was used but none of them was good enough to excuse what the mother did.
