VCBecky, I’m so glad you asked this question. It’s bothered me all my life. We are actually ONE race, the human race. Diversity is part of nature. Is there only one type of dog? Cat? What if prejudice went as far as cutting one down because they are blond? Blue eyed? After all, we know these are mutations of the genes.

What the hell is wrong with people? And it’s not just Americans or Africans or Brits or Europeans. Consider the caste system in India. It’s just way too confusing for my mind to grasp.

It’s a terrible phenomenon, but over time people get to rely on their segregated ways. At least, according to what I’ve read. The US has that too, as I’m sure you are more than aware. People are comfortable and they feel safe not being confronted with anything unusual. Different races have different traditions and ways about them. There is more than one way to live a good life, and sometimes people are afraid to know that.

By the way, does it bother any of you that we’re all the human race, yet we have to refer to other colors/ethnic backgrounds as ‘races’ in and of themselves, or is it just me? Black and white people are of the same race. American English is stupid. ;)

I’m assuming you are Erin’s mother. It seems you couldn’t raise your own daughter to know enough to stay away from scum like James. She even named her daughter Aryana. It’s a shame but it seems there is little chance for that poor child to be raised right. Her mother obviously wasn’t.

Oh, and just so you’ll know, my husband is still white, just mixed blood. It’s really tough for him, living amongst such hatred between colours. They call themselves the “Rainbow Nation”, yet they keep the colours separate. How sad is that? Colours in a rainbow blend, do they not?

I can’t stand them either, and I grew up in Alabama in the sixties and seventies, my parents being the ultimate bigots. They never understood why I was not, and even took me to a shrink to see if perhaps I was mentally disabled. It’s probably fortunate for them that they have passed on. I just hope they aren’t rolling in their graves knowing my husband is of mixed African blood.

But that was a long time ago, and I had kinda hoped the world has changed a bit. My friends in the States happen to be black and native american. We enjoy the diversity.

Now I kind of understand it down here in South Africa. After all, this is basically a brand new nation since apartheid was destroyed, but they actually CHOOSE to be segregated. I am unusual here. I speak to everyone on an equal basis. And I feel respect should come to a person for how hard he works at his job, not specifically what his job is.

Does that make me a weirdo? Makes no difference. I’m still a lady who despises any type of abuse/murder/mutilation.
