Jackie Simpson
No matter how cute the kids are, sometimes the parents are reprehensible.
And sometimes, there is no justice.
Meet 45-year-old Jackie Simpson, a lifetime drug abuser who was convicted of heroin possession in 1989 and incarcerated for over three years.
Her son, Kiel Simpson, is a regular pillar of the community, providing illicit pharmaceuticals for druggies throughout his town, threatening neighbors who complain about his drug dealing, and the owner of a great little doggie named Reuben.
Reuben is (or was) a pit bull who made a habit of attacking people and animals. The dog had been aggressive for years and was involved in at least two separate attacks on people and one attack on a neighbor’s dog, which was on a leash at the time.
The breed of dog that Reuben belonged to has been banned for some years in the area, due to their tendency towards aggressiveness.
Meet Ellie Lawrenson, a vivacious 5-year-old who had the misfortune to be related to Jackie Simpson and Kiel Simpson. Ellie Lawrenson is no longer alive. She will never see her sixth birthday, or have her first date, or ever graduate from college. She is in the ground due to the actions of her grandmother, Jackie Simpson.
Ellie Lawrenson was a regular visitor of the Simpson residence. While she came over, Reuben would go outside. When she left, the dog was allowed inside.
The dog, understandably, was a little jealous of Ellie – a fact that her mother, 25-year-old Lindsey Simpson was well aware of.
Everyone in the Simpson residence was well aware of what the dog would do if it ever got hold of Ellie. Jackie Simpson, Lindsey Simpson and Kiel Simpson all agreed that the dog was never to be in the house with Ellie.
On New Years Day of 2007, Jackie Simpson celebrated the new year by smoking a few joints and drinking a few bottles of wine. Ellie Lawrenson was with her, having been left with her grandma overnight.
Reuben the pitbull was outside.
With the fireworks going off, Jackie felt sorry for Reuben. As everyone knows, dogs hate fireworks.
Her solution?
Bring the dog inside, of course.
Jackie Simpson, high on marijuana and drunk on wine, stumbled over to the front window to watch a particularly beautiful fireworks display.
A moment’s worth of distraction was all the dog needed to do what it was bred for – attack.
Reuben the pit bull grabbed Ellie by the throat and savagely shook her.
The little girl had no chance.
None at all.
Jackie Simpson claims that she tried to beat the dog off her granddaughter, but nothing she did stopped the attack, which lasted for at least 20 minutes until a police officer showed up and shot the dog to death.
This is Kiel Simpson. Look how snarly and grumpy he is. Kiel Simpson was jailed for 8 weeks, convicted of owning a banned breed of dog.
Jackie Simpson was charged with manslaughter and the possession of a small amount of heroin.
The charge of possession was dropped.
Jackie Simpson was acquitted by a jury of seven men and five women after a six-day trial and is now free.

What an absolute idiot. Ellie was such a beautiful little girl, and it’s horrible that she had to even be near that awful, irresponsible woman. Children in situations like that are so unfortunate. They’re so innocent and don’t even have a say. It’s bad luck her life was in that putrid woman’s hands.
8 weeks in jail for manslaughter of a beautiful little girl. Perhaps we’re already in hell …
You people need to get a grip!! do you think that this women is not torturing herself enough!!! it was a trajic accident!! nothing else!!! i dont know the defendant or any of the family but this is nothing more than a terrible accident! fair enought the dogs owner should e punished but it isnt this lady’s fault
Well lets see:
1)She was drunk whine responsible for a child
2) She was on drugs while responsible for a child
3) she let a dangerous aggressive dog in to the house knowing full well the dog would tear the child to shreds.
You do the math. the woman is scum.
This woman had a duty of care. She was on drugs and drunk and as mentioned was fully aware of what the dog was capable of! And not meaning to judge a book by it’s cover the picture of the owner says it all! Not bred reight as they say. Likely the dog was a status symbol.
And 20 minutes? I’m an animal lover but pet or no pet it wouldn’t take me 20 minutes to get a dog off a childs throat. Swift finger up the dogs bum is all that needs, failing that, find yourself a heavy blunt object and beat it off. If she’s gonna be in charge of a supposed aggressive breed of dog, know how to handle them! She may be tortured enough but imagine the fear and torture the child went through.
Right, anon. Because getting high while watching your grandchild is a respectable thing to do. Responsibility only lies on the dog. Even though having a pitbull was illegal here to. You get a grip while hell continues to burn …
This woman is going to hell, but not for this. Yes, she was irresponsible and should have known better. Yes, the death was her fault. But I don’t think she would have ever wanted this to happen to her grand daughter.
The dog deserves hell.
Despite my usual aversion to idiots that endanger or neglect children, i do actually believe that jackie simpson is probably already living her own hell… After all she has this on her conscience for the rest of her life… I do however DESPISE people that put the needs of animals before the needs of a child, and i can’t imagine anyone bringing a dog that was vicious indoors when a child was nearby… Not anyone with a brain anyway. The real villain in this matter is kiel simpson who i would guess encouraged the dog to be aggressive- inadequates such as kiel usually do so… I also question the sense of ellies mother… No way would any child of mine of been in that house, i didn’t allow my inlaws to babysit at there house because they smoked so vicious dog? No way! So…I’m not sure about hell but it was a dreadful, avoidable tragedy and a wasted life, and a warning to anyone who leaves their child in someone elses care that you cannot guarantee your own personal standard of care will be met…
If Jackie Simpson felt that the dog needed to be brought in, then why didn’t she put the dog in a secure animal cage somewhere like a garage or an area that the dog was safely away from the child. If the dog was that aggressive towards the child, then the dog should have always been put somewhere where it was secure and had no chance of ever being able to get near the child. I’m sure that this woman feels horrible over the death of her granddaughter, but she should have never been doing drugs while the granddaughter was entrusted with her safety. Also, she knew the dog was aggressive towards the granddaughter, so I can’t believe she would even take the chance of allowing the dog around the granddaughter. If the dog had been banned in the area then they should have never owned the dog to begin with. This case is so tragic because the whole situation would have never happened if the proper precautions had been used to deal with this situation. I can only imagine the horror, terror, and pain that this poor baby endured before she died. I have to say that I really feel bad for this child’s mother. She entrusted her child’s care with family that she thought would keep her child safe from harm, but because of drug use and carelessness this child’s life was taken in a horrific manner. This little girl was such a beautiful little girl and looks like she would have been so sweet from looking at that adorable picture of her. It breaks my heart when a child dies from situations that should have never happened, and also did not have to happen if she had been properly cared for. RIP Ellie.
I feel really bad for that little girl. Although I believe that Jackie Simpson did very badly given the situation/her life, I don’t know if that automatically condems her to Hell. Furthermore, I am sure that it is killing her with what happened.
The dog by no means was good, but he was raised that way, not because of his breed. They are no more agressive than any other dog. I’ve heard some horror stories involving the friendly, family German Shepherd and the new baby, so he shouldn’t be condemned merely for being a pit bull. And pit bulls are not legal in my area either; however, I see them all over my neighborhood. They are able to be there if they were there before they were banned, but the owner has to obtain a dangerous dog liscence and pay some kind of insurance (that is expensive), which I am certian most of the dogs are not legal. Although it does hurt when I go to the humane society and see the pit bull puppies that are sweet that will be put down because they are pit bull. Now that I’ve ranted a bit about that, I will move on.
If it were my grandaughter (or really any kid) that my dog attacked in such a manner (which I am almost certian would never happen, I trust my dogs with my life), I would do everything to get them to stop. If I could not get it to stop or get him off of her by force, I would not think twice in getting a gun and shooting it dead or getting a knife from the kitchen and cutting it’s neck/jugular where it would die very quickly and have to release its victim. However, since Jackie was on drugs and alcohol maybe she wasn’t thinking clearly enough to do either of these things. You would think people would move hell and high water to protect their kin though.
Ultimately, I believe it was a bad judgment call on Jackie Simpson’s part, and I feel that had she tried hard enough she could have got the dog off of the child. However, I feel that whoever (whether it was Jackie, Kiel, someone else, or both) that taught that dog to be that way is the one truly responsible and they should be punished. Normal dogs do not do that. I understand dogs get jealous, but they should never be made jealous enough to do that to a child. I understand you not entirely trusting your pet around strangers; However, you should be able to trust them around your family. If you can’t trust them with family, you either need to work on it extensively or put them down.
Such a beautiful little girl . . . and such an awful thing happened to her. It’s really sad.
Well Im Glad she got to watch the dog tear her baby grandaughter to death,
I hope she has nightmares forever even after she is dead!!
I Also noticed something in older ”people” that should know better.
It seems if You tell them not to do something like ”dont let the dog in with the kid” they do it in spite of being told FUCKING NOT TO!!!
If I were Lindsey Simpson, I would cut Kiel and Jackie out of my life PERMANENTLY. Kiel Simpson should also be banned from owning dogs of any kind, since he obviously can’t train them worth a darn.
Was Jackie Simpson charged with child endangerment for being drunk and stoned while she was supposed to be taking care of her granddaughter as well, or was it just the manslaughter charge?
There are so many other amazing dog breeds out there. Why own a pit bull? Sure, it’s ALL about the owner. Riiiight. Those dogs have been bred for generations to do just what this one did. When will people learn?
Even Wikipedia will tell you that Pit Bulls were bred to fight other dogs, and not attack people.
It’s amazing that Helen Keller – blind and deaf by the age of one – wasn’t mauled to death by her PIT BULL service dog. Or Michael J Fox. And look at the number of Bully dogs Cesar Milan has. That aren’t killing each other or attacking people. To date, the most vicious dog that has appeared on his show was a Chihuahua.
Those poor kids from Our Gang, working every day for how many years with an American Staffordshire Terrier (Petey), yet another Pit Bull type dog. How they survived is beyond me. Wait. Must be because the stereotype about the dogs being human aggressive and inherently vicious is WRONG. Who would have thought. Oh, wait. RESPONSIBLE bully breed owners everywhere could have told you that.
Vicious and aggressive dogs of ANY breed should be put down. Period. People think it’s cute when their teacup dogs go after people – just because they don’t do as much damage as a large dog doesn’t mean it’s okay.
Dog bites are poorly documented. Not every person who has ever been bit by a dog goes to the hospital in order for truly unbiased research to take place. Most people can’t accurately identify a dog breed either, which further skews things.
there are so many idiots out there… no one ever cares about the kids anymore !!!!! if the family thought the dog will harm the baby…why did they keep it.??? stupid … i hate when evil sick people let bad things happen to kids…
while i notice a severe lack of responsibility in this case i have to say
as a pitbull owner, i don’t like the responsibility being put on the dog breed. that dog in particular was noted as being raised to be violent, as any dog can be. pitbulls in fact have been proven to have better than average temperaments as a whole (http://www.care2.com/causes/animal-welfare/blog/pit-bulls-have-better-temperament-than-average-dog/)
that dog in particular was dangerous, but it has nothing to do with the breed.
and i of course think it’s completely wrong and irresponsible to allow an aggressive dog around a small child, especially when the adults have impaired judgment.
I am getting REALLY pissed at the “OMG PIT BULLS ARE EVIL” standpoint being shown here.
Did that dog need to die? ABSOLUTELY. He should have been shot just because they KNEW he was so aggressive that he couldn’t be around kids. But the fact is that a Golden Retriever can be just as aggressive and do the same darn thing. But no one wants to hear that the worlds best family dog ever *gasp* would bite someone. That woman was grossly negligent, that dog shouldn’t have been ALIVE, forget about being near a child. And I say that NOT because of his breed but because there is NO place for a dog with that kind of aggression. Even Police and Military dogs have to meet a standard of temperament for their aggression to be okay.
http://www.atts.org/statistics.html If you look, American Pit Bull Terriers and American Staffordshire Terriers scored a HELL of a lot higher than Chihuhuas, better than Cocker Spaniels and better than Collies (sorry, Lassie!) and many other breeds. Bred to attack my ASS. Golden Retriever: 84.4% pass. American Pit Bull Terrier: 86.4% pass. OH NO.
The unfortunate part is that you get most of your information from the media, which demonizes Pit Bulls. Just out of curiosity, in the last 50 years how long have Pit Bulls been making Headlines? In the 80s the demon dog was Dobermans, in the 90s it was the Rottweiler. Do some research.
I am a middle class american without a drug problem, no car parts in the yard (I do have a tractor out in a field, does that count?), I don’t live in a trailer, I’m married to the father of my children (who also doesn’t do drugs) and we both work full time job in the Aerospace industry. We have an American Staffordshire Terrier – a breed that generally does not do well at Schutzhund because of their RELUCTANCE to attack people. So looks like your stereotypes are wrong. Sorry.
