John David Roy Atchison Tries To Kill Himself
On the 19th of September, 2007, at about 4 in the morning, at Sanilac County Jail, former U.S. Attorney John David Roy Atchison tied a bedsheet into a noose and tried to hang himself.
Another inmate yelled for the guards when he saw what was going on.
This suicide attempt happened after John Atchison’s defense attorney got John taken off suicide watch on Tuesday, the 18th of September.
John Atchison’s defense lawyer, James C. Thomas, has expressed regret that he had requested John be taken off suicide watch.
John Atchison has now been placed back on suicide watch.
For those of you who aren’t correctional officers, or who haven’t been on suicide watch themselves, when you’re placed on suicide watch, you’re usually naked except for a paper gown, given a “suicide blanket” that can’t be twisted, and put under constant surveillance.
