17-year-old Cheyenne Corbett made some bad choices in her life.
First off, she had sex with her boyfriend without anything in the way of contraception. That’s always bad.
Second, Cheyenne Corbett neglected to get treatment or help as her pregnancy rolled along. Bad bad.
Third, Cheyenne lied to her parents and friends when they asked her repeatedly during her last four months of pregnancy if she was pregnant. Apparently she told some of them she was just getting fat, and others that she had miscarried. Bad!
Fourth, she ignored the labor pains she felt during band camp, went home and at 3 in the morning on the 22nd of July, 2006, gave birth to her baby girl in the shower. BAD!
Fifth, Cheyenne Corbett took the baby, wrapped her up in a towel and put her in an entertainment center instead of taking the baby somewhere that she wouldn’t suffocate to death.
Cheyenne did clean up the bathroom, though.
Point in her favor.
Her mother, noticing that Cheyenne was bleeding profusely, took her to the hospital, where the trained staff immediately recognized that she had just given birth. Instead of telling the nice people that there was a baby girl at her parent’s house, just waiting for someone to take care of her, Cheyenne told the hospital workers that she was only five months pregnant and that she had been having signs of going through a spontaneous abortion.
Further testing revealed the truth, and police were sent to Cheyenne Corbett’s parents’ house, where the baby was found in the entertainment center.
The lies continued for a while. Cheyenne Corbett told police that her boyfriend didn’t know he had gotten her pregnant, while in reality friends had taken them both to a clinic that had confirmed that Cheyenne was, in fact, pregnant.
Cheyenne told police that she was scared of what her parents would do when they found out she was pregnant, but her 18-year-old big sister had, not too long ago, given birth to an illegitimate child and her parents had been supportive.
Colorado authorities charged Cheyenne with first-degree murder and child abuse.
The lawyers saw that the case against Ms. Corbett was pretty good, and that their own defense was a little shaky, so they convinced Cheyenne to drop the “not guilty” plea and negotiate a shorter sentence in exchange for a guilty plea to a charge of child abuse resulting in death..
Cheyenne pled guilty to that charge on the 2nd of October, 2007. The judge will possibly give the now-18-year-old a sentence of somewhere between 16 to 48 years in prison.
Cheyenne Corbett will be sentenced on the 14th of December, 2007.

Anyone who wrongly abandons their child should be rendered unable to reproduce, in my opinion. This world already has too many homeless children, so why bring more in? It seems that most teens don’t get that most of the time their parent(s) will be supportive. Hell, I’m sure they’d at least help you find a home for the child, put it up for adoption, etc.

STERILIZE HER!!!! THIS STUPID BITCH DOES NOT DESERVE TO HAVE ANOTHER BABY… SHE HAD HER CHANCE- SHE BLEW IT…. INSTEAD OF GIVING THIS CHILD A FIGHTING CHANCE AND DROPPING IT SOMEWHERE SAFE, SHE KILLED IT… AND FOR THAT, SHE DESERVES THE MOST SEVERE PUNISHMENT SHE CAN BE GIVEN…. SHE IS A SELFISH LIL GIRL PLAIN AND SIMPLE… SHE ONLY CARED ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO HER, SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SMART LIL GIRL AND USED A CONDOM.. OR ATLEAST TOLD HER BOYFRIEND NOT TO EJACULATE INSIDE OF HER… THAT COULD OF BEEN HER FIRST OPTION…

Yo, I was cheyenne’s boss at the time this happened. And I would like to say, what she did was wrong, it’s terrible, but I do not believe her to be a monster, and I do not think this was pre meditated. She “was” a very nice and sweet girl who I believe was just too damn young to be having kids and she got scared. (that still does not justify what she did)

You know, I have read alot of the media perception of Cheyenne and even some of the facts that the District Attorney presented and I know they have been misconstrued for a fact. I am a relative of Cheyenne (no, I dont wish to state who I am for the general public). I would like to say though that this is not a black and white case–it is very complex and for someone to read an article or two and make judgements is ignorant to say the least, especially since the media gets it wrong sometimes. This article has things that are wrong–more things misconstrued by the media. I am a mother and I was there to watch her baby girl be laid to rest and I have been there to watch Cheyenne break down. This whole thing is tragic for everyone involved–we lost two people in our family. But I think something that seems to be overlooked is the fact that the HIPAA law enabled this whole tragedy to take place. It is not right for a child to face pregnancy alone. We can sit around all day long and point fingers and make judgements but I think this has shown there is a serious problem with this law. A minor–as lets all remember she was–should not be given the option to withold medical information from their parents. If her dad had been told she was pregnant we could have prevented this whole thing–it makes me wonder how often has this HIPAA law done harm in place of good. I would urge anyone who has kids, or hopes to have kids, to write to congress to amend this ridiculus law. Regardless of how you all feel of Cheyenne remember it could be you writing this oneday thinking if we could have only known–we could have been there for her and things could have been different.
