Monique Anita Elliot will probably never be voted “Parent Of the Year.”
Las Vegas residents Monique Elliot and her girlfriend, Shatanna Williams, regularly spent their evenings beating Monique’s children - an eight-year-old girl and a nine-year-old boy - over a span of several weeks.
Now, this wasn’t the usual “spank your kid because she’s naughty” kind of beatings. This was a full-on whipping the little girl with electrical cords and belts. This was choking the girl until she was unconscious. This was forcing the children to squat for hours while holding phone books over their heads - and then making the kids do push-ups.
This was beating the girl until she had three strokes.
This was beating her until she was in a coma.
On the 15th of August, 2007, a day after Monique Elliot’s little girl slipped into a coma, 911 was called. The police arrived at Monique’s apartment, and an ambulance wasn’t far behind.
Medical personnel went into the apartment and came out with the little girl on a stretcher, with an oxygen mask covering her face and a neck collar secured around her neck.
As of two months later, the little girl had been taken off life support, but still hadn’t woken up. Doctors who have examined her say that she will never fully recover from the damage her mother and Shatanna did to her.
Both Monique Elliot and Shatanna Williams have been charged with child abuse and child neglect. Charges of attempted murder were considered, based on the seriousness of the injuries the kids suffered, but someone has decided that child abuse will be easier to prove and has the same sentencing possibilities.
It is still possible that the 8-year-old girl will die. In that case, Monique and Shatanna will be charged with murder.
Monique’s 9-year-old boy is in protective custody.

This affects me in two ways. First it makes me so sad that that poor child had to endure such horrible treatment at the hands of the one person she was supposed to be able to count on to protect and love her. Her Mother.
It also makes me so agry that my hands are shaking. I will NEVER understand how a woman could do this to her own child. I could never work within the prison system as i would end up as an inmate before too long. I just would not be able to control myself.

I agree Amy. I guess the maternal triggers did not exist in these “women” - maybe thats part of the reason they were lesbians? I do not mean that all lesbians are automatically bad mothers (although I do question the selfishness factor in deliberately bringing a child into a situation like that.)
Anyway, Amy, I have third strong emotion in cases like these - sorrow that the child is still alive. Seriously, who knows what kind of brain function this child still has, and what kind of memories wash through her brain in her coma? Maybe nothing - maybe she is just lying there with no thoughts, but maybe she remembers every whip, every hurt, every betrayal.
Life is sacred for the innocent, and this child was innocent - but ending torture through death is preferable to allowing it to continue.
Life is NOT sacred for the criminals, however - and these two cows should be extinguished. Preferably painfully, but even if it’s fast and painless, I want them off the face of this earth.
