47-year-old Weldon Marc Gilbert was a successful pilot for over thirty years. It was all he ever wanted to be.
Starting from when he was 12 years old, when Marc Gilbert told his parents that he knew he was destined to be a pilot, he worked long and hard at making his dreams come true.
He became a licensed pilot when he was just 17 years old, hanging out with flight instructors every chance he could, while he did well in his honors classes during high school. At 19, Marc Gilbert flew his family to California for a vacation. At 27, he became a licensed 747 pilot, flying Lear jets before UPS hired him as one of their pilots.
The president of Spencer Aircraft, made a lot of money during his life as a pilot, but he never got married.
I wonder why.

Marc Gilbert’s mother wondered why her 47-year-old son had started to let younger men move into his house. For a while, Marc had stuck with men who were apparently in their 20′s, but recently Marc Gilbert had let a 17-year-old boy move in with him.
His mother didn’t really approve of the situation, but allowed herself to think that Marc Gilbert was just mentoring these kids, who undoubtedly wanted to become pilots.
You see what you want to see, I suppose.
In late October, 2007, local authorities began to investigate Weldon Marc Gilbert.
Now, apparently, Marc had two boys who had been living with him for a few months. The youngest turned 13 on the 4th of November, 2007, the older one was 17. The two boys had first met Mr. Marc Gilbert back in 2001, a few months after their father died.
I’m not sure why these two boys were living with Marc Gilbert, and neither were the boys’ older siblings, who were a wee bit suspicious of why a 47-year-old unmarried man would take in two boys. After asking their younger brothers what was going on, the older siblings realized that the kids were being sexually abused and contacted the police about it.
The police, who are most always interested in getting kiddy-touchers off the streets, interviewed the two boys, and learned some of the most interesting things about Mr. Marc Gilbert.
The older boy told them that Marc Gilbert would give him money and take him on trips to different countries, like Hong Kong and Thailand . While they were taking these trips, Marc would, of course, molest him.
There was also spanking involved. Lots of spanking. Spanking that resulted in cuts, welts and bruises on the boy.
This molesting and spanking had been going on for six years, with the last episode happening on the 28th of October, 2007.
The younger boy related that Marc Gilbert had been spanking and molesting him, too, ever since he had moved into the older man’s house.
Making the detective work even easier was the fact that the older boy had a videotape in his possession that Marc Gilbert had made of one of the spanking and molesting sessions with the boy’s younger brother.
That was easily enough evidence to get a warrant to search Mr. Gilbert’s home, and on the 31st of October, 2007, police had a field day wandering through what appeared to be a house designed by child molesters for child molesters.

During the search, videotapes and DVD’s of Marc Gilbert’s sexual proclivities were found. He liked to tape his little “adventures.”
Once Marc had the kid alone, he would get them drunk, lead them to one of his “fun rooms” and tie them down. Then, while he had his hidden camera rolling, he would beat and sexually abuse his victim.
Footage that authorities have examined shows Marc Gilbert beating at least 20 different boys, whose ages range from 12 to 17. During especially cruel beating sessions, the boys would often cry out and plead with Marc to stop hurting them.
According to the local sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer:
He gave them alcohol. We don’t know if there’s drugs involved. He had rooms specifically designated for this. He was an intelligent man. He was a wealthy man. He put all of those things together, and he was able to do what he needed to do to get what he wanted.
Weldon Marc Gilbert has been charged with nine sex crimes so far. His charges include child rape, child molestation, and sexual exploitation of a minor.
Authorities are still looking for more of Marc Gilbert’s victims.
Marc Gilbert’s mother has told the press that she plans to support her son during his trial, but that she’s been praying a lot, and if she didn’t have God to fall back on, she would go curl up into a corner and cry.
Kind of like her son’s victims, I suppose.

I have to wonder why they elected to live with him though, I mean did he threaten them about moving away or telling anyone or something? Otherwise it seems pretty stupid to stick around. But I digress, that’s still not good, too bad many lives had to be pretty much f*cked (no pun intended) with such a situation.

I am wondering why these boys that lived there didn’t just try to escape and run to the police once the abuse started happening! It is hard to fathom that one boy stayed there for 6 years and never tried to escape!
Connie, I asked my son why he immediately told his father and myself what had taken place. He replied that he knew that what this slime bag was doing was wrong and that he had to be stopped. Even though my son wanted to learn to fly more then anything, his father and I could not afford the cost of pilot’s lessons/schooling, my son would not sell his soul to satan!

I met Marc Gilbert while I waited on his table at my Mom’s restaurant. I wanted to become an airline pilot just like him. He was my inspiration. I’m highly dissapointed in him; why would you risk an increadable career like this. Why didn’t he get help?
As a major airline pilot myself today, I firmly state that there is no room for such a person in our professional field.
UPS has done a great job hiding this ugly crime. One would think that such a crime would have been on national news for a week, at least!
This guy’s behavior should be an example of how even white-collar professionals should never be completely trusted, based upon their status, wealth, or education.

I wouldn’t even worry about it, Louie. I sit here and type stuff out and a lot is mispelled because my lap top pad or my mouse is all messed up. Well….my parents and marc’s parents were good friends when we were children. I am still absolutely shocked that Marc became this monster. You just cannot imagine what it feels like to remember that really nice kid who always defended me against my brother. Marc was not a bad kid at all. He cared about people…he was kind as a child. Something terrible happened to him past the age of 12….who knows what. Evil begets Evil.

This slime bag had it all set up. He would groom the boys with promises of helping them get their private pilot’s licenses, at no charge!!! Little did they know what price they would pay! How do I know this, my son was almost a victum of his. Yes, we reported it!!My son meet this slime bag when employed at Spanaflight located at Thunder Field. Then owner, was Bernie Johnston. The slime bag narrowed in on my son because he knew my son had a passionate love for flying. Of course everyone spoke highly of the slime bag, he had everyone fooled. It should have been obvious to Bernie and every other adults that worked there, this slime bag was evil. This airport full of young boys wanting to fly, was his prayground. Parading one of the boys around the airport, Marc and the young boy dressed identical. Only associating with young boys, never females. When this slime bag tried to get my son in his slimey hands, thank god my son some how managed to stayed calm and was successful at getting away safely. We called the police and there was an investigation. My son knew of 3 other boys that worked/hung around Spanaflight that we knew the slime bag was molesting. Their pictures where hanging on the slime bags walls, partying with boozes in hand. Yes all were under age. However we found out that WA State law for consensual sex is 16 years of age. My son was almost 17 and because he stood up to the slime bag and safely got away, there was nothing we could do. My son gave the 3 boys, that we knew the slime bag was molesting, a way out. They were question by a detective and not one came clean. In fact one boy said, “What goes on behind closed doors stays behind closed doors. Besides it would ruin his career as a pilot.” At first it seemed as if Bernie and the others at Spanaflight were supportive of my son. The slime bag was not allowed to come to the airport. But when nothing could be done, they turned on my son. In remember when the slime bag started coming back to the airport, my son was working on an airplane. He was inside the cockpit when he heard the slime bags voice. He was so scared that he curled up into a little ball and laid there until he felt safe to come out. The 3 boys that the slime bag was molesting treated my son horrible, along with the employees and Bernie. My son was devastated and ended up quitting his job. My son is the bravest person I know. He stood up and tried to stop the slime bag. He tried to stop other young boys from becoming this slime bags victum’s. All the young boys that we did not know about that the slime bag continued to molest and the new victums after the spring of 2003 till he finally got caught should have never happened!!!! Yes, the slime bag molested these boys, but he did have help! TACOMA, Wash. — A Washington state man accused of child sex crimes is allowed to view child pornography in jail.
The sheriff and the prosecutor don’t like it. But Weldon Marc Gilbert is acting as his own lawyer in the case, and that means he’s allowed to review the evidence.
More than 100 videos and photographs were seized from Gilbert’s Lake Tapps home after his 2007 arrest. Authorities say some of them were shot by Gilbert.
Gilbert worked as a pilot and is accused of using money and alcohol to lure more than a dozen boys to his home, where police say he molested them.
KIRO-FM reports that when Gilbert views his videos in the Pierce County Jail in Tacoma, he’s with an investigator in a separate room visible to jail guards.
I love this site, but I must say I have a little bone to pick with this article. Not with your condemnation of Weldon Marc Gilbert, God rot his soul. What disturbs me is that you link to three Wikipedia articles on BDSM-related topics, in connection with Gilbert’s activities. What Gilbert did was not, I repeat NOT, BDSM. There aren’t very many things that everyone in the BDSM community agrees about, but at the top of that very short list is CONSENT. A person may give up the right to be consenting, or play at nonconsensual activity, but EVERYTHING is grounded in consent. Always! There’s a word for people who don’t believe in consent, and it isn’t “Dominant” or “Top” or even “sadist.” It’s “predator,” and they are met with zero tolerance in the community. The millions of BDSM practitioners for whom safety and consensuality are of the highest importance deserve better than to be lumped into the same category as a sack of shit who rapes minors.
Aletheia, I read that again earlier today and that part did bother me, and for the same reasons you listed. I’m not a member of the BDSM community but I have friends and know many people who are, to varying degrees. Outside of their own private lives, no one would even think they had a dungeon at home. ;) It bothered me on their behalf. They are normal people, some with children. Like all adults with kids, they have sex behind closed doors. Of course.

Anything sexual that happens between consenting adults is normal, in my opinion. When you involve a child, even if that child is an experienced and seemingly willing prostitute who knows exactly what is going to happen, I think you should be taken out back and shot in the head. I agree with you, vcbecky, but I’m not sure everyone will catch the point that what Gilbert did stands in contrast to those similar activities performed between consenting adults. You’re unusual in your knowledge and acceptance of the BDSM lifestyle (which doesn’t surprise me, on the basis of what I know about you); most of vanilla society still labors under the delusion that people who are into BDSM are violent and depraved. Recently a woman, a caring mother who happened to enjoy some rather intense edgeplay *behind closed doors*, lost custody of her children after being forced to read explicit passages from her diary out loud during the hearing. Most people DON’T know how highly consent is valued in the BDSM community. Clubs and dungeons have strict age requirements which are rigidly enforced. Anyone who engaged in sexual activity of any sort with a minor would be ostracized, even if it was consensual. As for nonconsensual sex with a minor – it is as horrifying to BDSM practitioners as to anyone else. You know this, but so many people don’t. I fear that to connect Weldon Marc Gilbert with BDSM in any way, particularly linking descriptions of his activities to articles on BDSM without any comment, will serve only to reinforce this negative association in the minds of the less well-informed.
If Max doesn’t notice this part of the thread, drop him an email and I’m sure he’ll address it one way or the other. I know he’s swamped with site-related stuff, but I also know that he reads every bit of mail and he doesn’t blow people off about this kind of thing.
Even if it takes a while or doesn’t even happen, anyone who reads this article and picks up on the links the way we did, will most likely read the comments searching for something like the discussion we just had and appreciate that the information actually IS here.

The only reasons I’m still here are the regular posters, Max and admin. There’s so much integrity, caring and healthy debate. It’s so comforting, from a humanistic standpoint, that we’re able to completely put aside so many huge things that we disagree on, and find common ground in our reactions to these stories.
Max in particular will change a story and offer a sincere apology if something is found to truly be wrong. He’s been through a lot of hell in his life, and he understands more about humanity and emotions than he will ever give himself credit for. I’ve seen parts of stories that someone misinterpreted, like WAY off-base and no one else saw it that way, but Max understood and changed the misinterpreted parts so long as they didn’t interfere with the facts and flow of the story.
It’s rare to find such integrity in the face of possible public ridicule, even online. If someone is able to admit their honest mistakes and fix them, my respect for and trust in them only grows more solid.
I’m with you there. I’ve seen a lot of compassion and integrity on this site. There’s plenty of dry with, but this isn’t morbid humor for its own sake, but a place where good people try to make sense of the awful things members of our own species sometimes do for no reason we can understand, and the humor on this site serves the purpose of underscoring the horror. I love how condemnation always goes where condemnation is due, and blaming the victim is not tolerated.
I talked to one of the victims last week! This is so devastating to the victims and their families! They were kids for God sake, they were so easily manipulated. I was so angry when I heard that he is able to watch the tapes, I literally started to cry in a coffee shop while I had my morning coffee and read the news paper article. We should all call our senators and demand they do something about this!!!!
