Uniquea Davis, Desiree Levering and Mary Likely To Be Tried As Adults
Uniquea Davis, Desiree Levering and Mary Likely, the trio who carjacked an Omaha mother and threw her 10-month-old infant out on the side of the road, are going to be tried as adults.
Mary Likely’s parents have said that while they do feel the girls “need help,” that they should not be tried as adults.
God helps those who help themselves, but he doesn’t help those who help themselves to other people’s cars.
Update:
According to Douglas County authorities, Desiree Levering and Mary Likely, both 15, are accused of assaulting an officer at the Douglas County Youth Center on the 12th of February, 2008. The county attorney’s office said a total of six girls jumped the guard.
Another Update:
Omaha attorney Stu Dornan argued in court that Mary Likely’s case belongs in juvenile court because she has brain damage related to lead poisoning.
What we want to do is try and get her the best treatment, and our position is that treatment is in juvenile court. Her lead testing was more than three times the accepted level.
Dr. Kim Dietrich is doing research to establish the connection between lead poisoning and behavioral problems in children. Stu Dornan said Dr. Dietrich consulted with the National Institutes of Health, the World Health Organization and the White House, and now the globally recognized expert is testifying in Mary Likely’s case that brain damage from lead poisoning is irreversible and that Mary’s behavior was 70 percent caused by having had lead poisoning which caused brain damage.
Prosecutor Steve Gabrial pointed out that other children with lead poisoning brain damage aren’t out breaking the law.
There is no medical evidence to show there is organic brain damage. If she is sent to the juvenile system, when she gets out, she’s going to have the same problem as when she went in.
Mary Likely’s mother was very sad, wiping away tears during the hearing. She stated to the press that she just wanted her daughter to “get help.”

FYI, Mary Likely, and Desiree Levering pleaded no contest and guilty, respectively, to assaulting a correctional officer on July 17th, 2008.
Prosecutors were forced to drop the robbery charges against the pair and Uniquea Davis because the victim, Amber Blakeman, disappeared and refused to come forward. While it’s hard to put myself in another person’s shoes and know why Blakemen chose this course of action, It can’t help but feel more that a little bit of disgust at her & her husband’s actions. I may be way out of line here, but that my honest opinion.
Sorry to have to ask, but i read the original story on this incident some months ago but have only come across it again today… So what happened to these disgusting little specimens of pond- life? I seem to recall from the original story that the three wretches involved were somewhat full of themselves at the time of arrest… And probably full of donuts and fried chicken if memory serves correct… Why oh why do we allow the parents of these half wits to go unpunished? I think that in all but a very few of these sort of cases inadequate parenting is at the core of the problem. Arrogant, useless and negligent parents spawn arrogant, useless and negligent offspring… Lead poisoning? Huh! I’d hazard a guess that the chemicals, if any that is, involved here is more likely to be crack or meth… Disgusting little tramps all three of them, good lord, i’m sure they make their parents so darn proud…!
