She has any number of reasons to be sad.
One reason she’s sad might be that her brother’s pit bull was killed.
If you’ll take a look at this story here, Jeanette Hawes in Augusta, Georgia tells the press that her neighbor didn’t have to stab her brother’s dog.
She didn’t have to go that far. She could’ve ran and called police, got help, or whatever.

13-year-old Elijah Hawes was playing with his pit bull Saturday night around 9:00 at his home on Bransford Road. The dog was on a chain in the front yard when the suspect, Ginger Arthurs, was walking by with her chow mix.
“The suspect in this case was walking her dog and at some point her dog broke free and charged the dog that was on the chain, those two dogs started to fight,” Lt. Scott Peebles said.
Both owners tried to pull their dogs away from each other. Investigators said the suspect, Ginger Arthurs then pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the pit bull a number of times.
“I was just like ‘whatcha stabbing my dog for?’ and my god brother was trying to pull him away from her,” Elijah Hawes said.
Elijah said he was shocked.
“My dog was so hurt he just let loose to the other dog and ran in the yard and died,” Hawes said.
This incident report said Arthurs took her chow dog and ran to her apartment, where she was later taken into custody, and charged with cruelty to animals.
“She didn’t have to go that far. She could’ve ran and called police, got help, or whatever,” Jeanette Hawes said.
Jeanette Hawes said her brother was devastated.
“To actually hear my brother talk about what happened to his dog and it happened right here in front of him,” Hawes said.
Elijah said he hated to see his dog die like that.
“I just can’t see how a person can stab a dog to death. Like she wanted him to die because she kept stabbing him,” Hawes said.
Ok, so stabbing a dog is bad. I get it.
After a fight with her boyfriend on the 29th of November, 2007, Jeanette Hawes took her children – one-year-old Jordon Hawes and three-year-old Shakayla Hawes – with her to a gas station she frequently visited.
She took both children with her into the bathroom, closed and locked the door.
Once the door was locked, Jeanette Hawes pulled out a steak knife and repeatedly stabbed her two children in the chest.
Then she laid down in their pooling blood and waited.
Jordon Hawes died by his mother’s hands on the floor of a gas station bathroom. Shakayla lived a bit longer, but died on the way to the hospital.
According to witnesses, Jeanette didn’t seem bothered by the fact that she’d just wiped out her family.
We seen them take one of the children out covered in a bag… the mother didn’t have any remorse. She wasn’t crying, nothing.
Jeanette Hawes has been charged with two counts of murder and with possession of a knife during the commission of a crime.
Now, answer this, Miss Jeanette Hawes: If it’s not right to stab a dog to death, why is it ok to stab your two children to death?

a friend of mine had a Sharpei/American Bulldog cross who was also stabbed by some lunatic about a year ago. the dog lived fortunatly (only to be killed by a car 6 months later though, a dog’s life can certainly suck eh?). we reported him to the police and had witnesses, but the fuckers didn’t do anything to arrest the guy, even though we had a good idea of where he lived. we eventually went out ourselves, armed with a bat and a piece of chain, but fortunatly for all of us, we never did find him, otherwise i’m sure we’d be the ones in jail now. animal cruelty is just as bad as cruelty to a human being in my book.
The police should do more when it comes to animal cruelty. It’s like you have to catch them on tape doing it, have a dead animal (and even then ?), or have strong ties to someone high in the community. I say this because I am deployed to Iraq and my mother is watching my 2 dogs. This past July someone my mom’s neighbor knew (a very distant family member to us as well) came up to the fence of our backyard, throw something over the fence to our dogs (my 2 and my sister’s 1). My mom rushed outside and saw tin foil with meat and rat poison. She clearly saw (and knew) who it was. They rushed the dogs to our vet, who pumped their stomachs, and put them on pills for a month or so daily. Had she not saw this, I’m sure our dogs would have just died with no apparent cause as to why. She told the police and pointed the guy out in person. The police asked him and he said he did not do it. The police said that they couldn’t do anything because the guy said he didn’t do it.
It really makes me mad that the police do not do more when it comes to pets being harmed. It’s like the sentences on here most of the time (for torturing animals to death, etc) get extremly light sentences. It just is so frustrating because were it about him doing something extensively less to a human, then the police would be more apt to do something. I come home next month from Iraq and I would be devastated and very sad if my dogs were not there when I returned.
Thank God your friend’s dog survived being stabbed, though incredibly sad that the police did nothing, and sadder still that the dog was killed by a car shortly thereafter.

I take issue with your use of the word “Accident” when referring to this yeast infection stabbing her children. An accident is something that has no intent and no way of avoiding it. This lesion locked the kids in a bathroom with her, pulled out a knife and proceeded to stab them to death.

I had a pit/whippet mix for 17 years. Depending on what your pit is mixed with determines a lot of their personality, I think. My dog never bit anyone… but that does not make me a backyard pit breeder enthusiast.
The reason I am for mandatory fixing of pets with no loopholes for breeders is because breeders are responsible for the way these dogs are turning out. Big truth- breeders breed for certain characteristics. Take some responsibility now, losers.
From what I’ve heard, the new ‘pit bull’ is the Sharpei. After that, no doubt it will be the Canary Presio. The blame is three-fold… the breed, the breeder and the buyer.
Mutts. Yeah, mutts. If you want a dog, get a mutt. Preferably from your local animal shelter. Not as cool, not as ’soccer mom-ish, I know, but less likely to eat your children’s faces or toes, as recent news have reported.

This story infuriates me.
When I was 8 months pregnant with my first boy, I was taking my two dogs (one of whom was the pit/whippet, the other was a aussie mix) for a walk one night. At the end of the block we were attacked by 4 kids on bikes. Even though my dogs were leashed, they managed to RUN OVER my dogs with their bikes. I was forced to drop their leashes and tell them to RUN.
I asked one of the kids WHY? Why are you doing this to us? And he said- Effen B***ch, get out of our way or we’ll come back and kill you.
Because I was pregnant, I did not fight with or continue any conversation with those kids. I feel like a loser in that I left my dogs while I ran home. But, I did not want to get killed, and didnt want my baby to get killed. I was very happy when my dogs came back later, but after that I was never able to take my shepherd on a walk because she was too traumatised by having been literally run over by those kids.
My point to all this seemingly non-related dog stories? Because after my dogs were terrorized, I did not have a sudden urge to beat myself in the belly and kill my child.
I am willing to bet that this woman (if I can even call her evilness that) is going to claim that the attack on her dog triggered her attack on her own children.

Chaining makes most dogs aggressive. It is cruel and mean, and can make any kind of dog unhappy, especially pits. Who chains their dogs? People who are cruel and mean, and who know their dogs are dangerous. If they weren’t dangerous before they were chained, they will be afterwards. No matter what breed they are.
Tangent, I know… but I think it’s relevant, because I think the POS non-mother will claim that this dog-attack ‘triggered’ her into killing her children.

My dogs were attacked, and for some reason that did not translate into me wanting to kill people. Especially people like my own children.

before I had my boys, I remember a story about a little boy whose aunt let him use a restroom at a park… and the boy was killed while the aunt waited outside.
The end result is that I do not allow my boys (now 7 and 9) to go to any bathroom alone. I have taught them to ignore the designation of ‘men’s or womens’ restrooms. I’ve taught them that if they gotta go, they gotta go. Sometimes they want me to be in the restroom with them, in which case I ho-hum and pretend I’m not there. I have taken them to both men’s and women’s bathrooms, whichever is less busy.
Even though some people might raise eyebrows about how I go with my boys to public bathrooms, people need to know that my kids ask me to do that. They are very aware that something could happen to them.
What is really sad, is that in this case it was the mother who killed her children in a public bathroom.
For some reason I have never warned my boys from going into a public bathroom with me because I might KILL THEM.
I have said before about how angry I am about my x’s proclivity towards being mentally and emotionally abusive. Killing my own children in order to spite someone else never figures in.
It is not logically possible to kill children that you love. Therefore, parents who kill their children should be executed.
I believe that a good alternative for people like this is to put them in a cell and give them a table equipped with a syringe of poison, a rope, pills, etc., and let them kill themselves without forcing us to do the DP thing. Let them commit suicide. It would be the best decision they ever made.

I think what the sister is trying to get across here is that she cant understand why her sister murdured her kids. She didnt see any warning signs that this was going to happen and she is very conflicted and confused. You know, the first time i came onto this site it was to defend someone, not someone who had broken the law, but someone who’s bad choices and morals led to the death of her daughter. How times have changed. While at first i was sympathtic, i now realise that this woman made bad choices in life and she was just as much to blame for the death of her daughter as the person who actually killed her.

First, I offer my condolence of the loss of your neice and nephew. I am saddened of what occurred, I knew both Shakayla and Jordon. AUGUSTA, Ga.—22-year-old Jeanette Hawes is charged with 2 counts of murder in the stabbing deaths of her two toddlers. News 12 caught up with Hawes’ mother. We have the story of a family struggling to understand…why?
“I’ve been in the business 25 years, and I’ve never encountered anything like this,” said Mark Bowen. He is Chief Coroner for Richmond County, and he was visibly shaken by what he calls a tragic and gruesome crime scene.
Investigators say two toddlers, ages one and three, were murdered at their mother’s hand. “It’s such a tragic, such a loss, um it’s hard…even people in public service have a hard time dealing with it,” Bowen said.
Hawes’ mother, Janice Hawes, is in shock. “When I first heard about it, I was just stressed and depressed and um sometimes you just can’t believe, you know, that things like this can happen. You don’t be thinking about it until it happens.”
Family friend, Gary Willingham, says there were warning signs. “It’s been going on now for a few days…the family being concerned about where she was, and how the kids were, cause she was not in touch with the family.”
And yet Jeanette spoke candidly with News 12 on Monday with two children nearby who are believed to be hers. She spoke to us after a woman stabbed the family’s pit bull. “I think that was very wrong, you know she didn’t have to do that.”
So what drove Jeanette to do what she did just days later?
“In the last month or so, she had lost her job with the post office and it just mounted up with a lot of things going unmet because of the loss of her job,” says Willingham.
There are so many unanswered questions. And the investigation is just beginning. “It’s hard to deal with children especially after being taken in such a tragic manner we all suffer when something like this happens,” says Bowen.
The children’s grandmother says, “I’m doing fine right now, but I know what I got to face…you know…because it’s really not really over right now…when I go look at those kids.”
She lost her job so what hell i have lost a job before and was out of work for 2 months rent was late (really really late) utilities threatening to be turned off well the gas (which heated the water) so no hot showers jsut cold ones, phone disconnected but NEVER NEVER once did i think ok i will kill my kids over this no i plowed through (depression and all) and got through it. There is NO excuse to ever kill your kids just because you hit rough times

This story makes me sad. (Augusta) – Jeanette Michelle Hawes’ future is now in the hands of Judge Carlisle Overstreet. He will decide in 30 days if she will be released or committed indefinitely to a mental hospital.
MCGHealth forensic psychiatrist Carmen Nichita says in cases like this one a team of doctors will evaluate Hawes and give her medication to treat her mental illness.
Dr. Carmen Nichita, MCGHealth forensic psychologist: “During this time she would be evaluated for symptoms of mental illness how she responds to treatment, if she agrees to.”
Even if Hawes responds well to treatment and her evaluation is favorable, it’s unlikely she will get out.
Dr. Nichita: “The likelihood of somebody getting out of the first review is very, very slim. Usually if they have a mental illness and display symptoms even though they are well controlled with medications they still need more assessment. They still need dangerousness assessment and most of the time they don’t get released after 30 days.”
Doctors testified that Hawes was paranoid and delusional, hearing voices that told her to stab her children.
Hawes will have a structured stay during her time in a mental hospital. She will be a part of group activities, receive medication and visits from family.
Dr. Nichita: “Most of the time, they spend 5, 10, 15 years in the hospital after they are released to a step down program, where they get into group home and they get supervised visits and psychiatric care.”

All I can say, for many reasons is this: I do know the girl, she wasn’t evil, she was sick and despite all the name-calling and drama on this, her family has stuck by her ( not defending her actions) and I respect that. I do not wish her to go to hell. Nobody likes being mentally ill, it’s pitiful.

i guess i should have expected being attacked for having an opinion ( gotta love america). again, as a mental health professional, there is a difference between evil and sick. it’s a horrible tragedy, but there is a stigma on psychosis that there isn’t with cancer or other diseases. im not saying we should pat her on the back or give her an award but as far as hell..i have yet to recieve that phone call from GOD telling me that he needs me to do his job and send folks to hell. I DO feel bad about the children, but i also feel bad for the woman. i feel bad for her family. we can only imagine what its like to have a loved one do something like this. it isnt like casey anthony, lying and hiding. she didnt plan out a murder and try to get away with it. she was there laying in blood, REALLY believing in her hallucinations. again, im not saying she should be set free and everybody let her babysit but she isnt some woman that didnt want kids so she made up a lie to cover a murder ( susan smith), she was sick. we all forget to be grateful that we have our mind healthy. a brain can get sick just like a heart or kidney. yes, she doesnt need to running a daycare but the GOD i worship knows that she was sick. you cant hold everyone to the same standards. she got a sentence, she will suffer especially if she recovers from her illness. my point is that her family is defending her and not her actions and thats not a bad thing. they grieve the loss of hte children but they know her and knew her before her break. there is always more to a story, rightous anger is understandable but she is their family and i DO commend them for loving her and not wishing she would go to hell. I get angry when i hear of any child being hurt, i am a mother but at the same time when I work with mentally ill people and see them tortured by their own minds, I praise GOD that i am not afflicted with that.

Back up a second though. I never said she deserved hell. You are almost right about God being the decider on where we go after we die, but it’s also OUR choice in life.
Her family seen the signs, and IGNORED them. They REFUSED to get her the appropriate medical attention that she desperately needed. So in a way, they are just as much at fault as she was for the children’s deaths.
I hate to be mean..and honestly I’m trying not to be, but you of all people, since you are educated in that background, know the dangers of letting a mentally unstable person run amok without treatment, and on top of that have children, because you know that mental illness in women is ENHANCED after pregnancy and they can become dangerous.

I failed to read what exactly? court transcripts- i have. interviews when she was admitted to hospital? – i have. psych eval to determine her ability to stand trial? i have. her family knew she was depressed and taking anti-depressants, not that she was having a psychotic break, huge difference. it’s not like she showed signs for weeks and they ignored it. if they had, i would agree. everyone has a friend on paxil, you don’t expect them to completely lose it, thank GOD that’s rare. I’m curious how you determined what the family knew or that she wasnt being treated, as i know different. again, I’m not saying she’s awesome and should be out there having kids, it was horrible, i dont even have an adjective for it. I do feel very badly for her as a human and her family. i spend a lot of time with the mentally ill and most of them started out what we call normal, they don’t whack out because they are mean or to annoy the rest of us. it’s almost good that they don’t realize what they do when they are sick and they do need to be in a hospital; some forever. I cannot even imagine, “coming to” after heavy treatment and being told that i hurt my kids in any way…I’d want to die, maybe she feels that way. it isnt like somebody who gets drunk and does something wrong, because they chose to drink, she didnt DO anything ( as far as i can tell) to bring about her illness, several doctors, who are more educated than me determined that she was unaware of her actions, she was criminally insane at the time. she has a life sentence as it is, I just dont see who it benefits to say she’s evil and should go to hell- she’s in hell. there are a lot of bad folks on this site, people who knew right from wrong, weren’t sick, and just did awful stuff, they had a motive, she didn’t. don’t be friends with her, I understand but please dont think you’re safe from mental illness, it doesnt discriminate and most times you and your family will never see it coming until something “bad” happens. lots of people diagnosed in jail.

a mental illness doesn’t just happen overnight.
It takes YEARS to develop and YES there are signs before a psychotic break.
And as for me having a mental illness..I know I have issues..I have problems..my family noticed when I was a teen that I was behaving out of character based on society’s “normal” range of function. They sought help for me BEFORE something like this *meaning Ms. Hawes here* happened.

I’ll go a step further than you. Maybe the family had no idea of the signs to look for? In order to see mental illenss you first have to know the person very well. Then you also need to know the signs. Not always an easy thing to do. Even harder to admit to.
I am lucky that I have never suffered depression or any other illness. I’ve had the blues now and then and I do have my bad days. But I am very optimistic. I always look for the positave side to a bad time.

susan smith and casy anthony planned and attempted to cover it up, they clearly had motive and trying to “get away” with it is using reason- which is a characteristic of sane people. casey went clubbing. jeanette layed down in the blood crying….is that sane? sanity IS trying to get away with it. as for her using the insanity defense, what did she gain? a forensic institution isnt club med, she isnt getting out. had she killed the kids somewhere private and at least attempted to hide it, i could see her as evil but to me its painfully obvious she was very ill. her family is grieving, her and her sisters were kids! talking bad about her doesnt bring the kids back, her sisters are obeying the primal need to protect family and i can’t fault them for that. they have awful language but they love their sis, even though she’s “crazy” lots of people lock their family up, watch the penal system lost them, and forget about them. i dont know, i dont agree with your opinion but as they say, i would fight to defend your right to have it. but contrary to popular belief, once a mentally ill person commits a heinous crime, they probably arent afraid of jail or the death penatly, the suicide rates for the mentally ill is unreal. a worse punishment is spending life, alone, in a hospital with tons of people hating you when you cant help being sick no more than people with cancer. there have been people to commit crimes and it was discovered they had a huge brain tumor, your brain controls your behavior. im a christian but i do realize that the brain being sick can overrride being a “good person” i have seen sweet people get alzhiemers and do unspeakable things.do they go to hell too?
