susan smith and casy anthony planned and attempted to cover it up, they clearly had motive and trying to “get away” with it is using reason- which is a characteristic of sane people. casey went clubbing. jeanette layed down in the blood crying….is that sane? sanity IS trying to get away with it. as for her using the insanity defense, what did she gain? a forensic institution isnt club med, she isnt getting out. had she killed the kids somewhere private and at least attempted to hide it, i could see her as evil but to me its painfully obvious she was very ill. her family is grieving, her and her sisters were kids! talking bad about her doesnt bring the kids back, her sisters are obeying the primal need to protect family and i can’t fault them for that. they have awful language but they love their sis, even though she’s “crazy” lots of people lock their family up, watch the penal system lost them, and forget about them. i dont know, i dont agree with your opinion but as they say, i would fight to defend your right to have it. but contrary to popular belief, once a mentally ill person commits a heinous crime, they probably arent afraid of jail or the death penatly, the suicide rates for the mentally ill is unreal. a worse punishment is spending life, alone, in a hospital with tons of people hating you when you cant help being sick no more than people with cancer. there have been people to commit crimes and it was discovered they had a huge brain tumor, your brain controls your behavior. im a christian but i do realize that the brain being sick can overrride being a “good person” i have seen sweet people get alzhiemers and do unspeakable things.do they go to hell too?

I’ll go a step further than you. Maybe the family had no idea of the signs to look for? In order to see mental illenss you first have to know the person very well. Then you also need to know the signs. Not always an easy thing to do. Even harder to admit to.

I am lucky that I have never suffered depression or any other illness. I’ve had the blues now and then and I do have my bad days. But I am very optimistic. I always look for the positave side to a bad time.

My glass is never half empty. It’s always half way to the next beer!

Nothing to be ashamed of. I hold no compassion for criminals. None at all. I loath them and they disgust me.

With out people with compassion the world would be a cold place indeed. So I tip my hat to you.

and for all we know, she may be just pulling the insanity card to escape harsh punishment.
Remember Susan Smith?
Andrea Yates?
Casey Anthony? (I know she hasn’t been sentenced yet, but…I PRAY that Casey gets the death penalty..that is one SICK puppy.)

Let’s not forget the countless others who have pretended to be “mentally ill” just to get out of either life in prison or the death penalty.

Please think rationally, and use logic.

While you may have a point,
a mental illness doesn’t just happen overnight.
It takes YEARS to develop and YES there are signs before a psychotic break.

And as for me having a mental illness..I know I have issues..I have problems..my family noticed when I was a teen that I was behaving out of character based on society’s “normal” range of function. They sought help for me BEFORE something like this *meaning Ms. Hawes here* happened.

Ever heard the old adage “That in which you do not see, does not exist”?
Her family most likely denied that she had any pre-existing condition, saying that she behaved normally until that day.
Maybe her breaking point was when she witnessed the dog being slashed..who knows?

According to the Bible, just me, anyone who kills another (whether it be intentionally or in a moment of psychosis) has bought their one way ticket to hell…

oh yeah, btw I will never be ashamed of compasssion for another human being. i will read stories and be properly horrified but i will always wonder, why? what happened?
