There are more than a few ways to get yourself a ticket to Hell.
40-year-old Kenneth Monroe Owens has definitely earned his.
Early in the morning on the 11th of November, 2007, he showed up at the door of his ex-girlfriend, 54-year-old Carolyn Barnette.
Carolyn Barnette, a grandmother with numerous health problems, had her grandson, 11-year-old Troy Conn, spending the night at her house on the morning of the 11th of November, 2007. While school was out, Troy was taking the opportunity to spend a little time with grandma.
A regular church-going woman, she doted on her grandchildren, talking about them constantly to friends the way proud grandmothers do. Even when her health problems kept her house-ridden, she loved to watch them play and would regularly watch over them at her house.
Recently, she had held her fifth and youngest grandson – a 4-week-old – for the first time.
The whole family was glad that she had managed to live that long.
Then Kenneth Owens came back into her life.
Kenneth Owens, who had dated Carolyn Barnette for eight years, had broken up with her two years ago, so his arrival that morning was something of a surprise.
The fact that he had a knife was even more of a surprise.
Kenneth Owens killed Carolyn Barnette, stabbing her enough to splatter blood on the walls. Her grandson, Troy Conn, who tried valiantly to stop the guy who was stabbing his grandmother to death, was cut eleven times and left for dead on the floor.
Kenneth Owens took some pain medication from Barnette’s home and left.
He might have gotten away clean, if it wasn’t for Troy Conn.
Troy wasn’t quite dead, you see, and was able to call 911 after Kenneth Owens left.
It was too late to save his grandmother, but Troy was saved after being rushed into the local hospital for emergency artery-rebuilding surgery.
Kenneth Owens was picked up by the police a few hours after the murder.
Convicted of breaking and entering just the week before, Kenneth Owens had been released on probation so recently that he hadn’t even met with his probation officer yet.
Kenneth Owens has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, first-degree burglary and robbery with a dangerous weapon. The prosecutor has said that the death penalty is on the table.
Will anyone miss him?

…Wow. Words fail me on this one, there’s just really nothing to say, I think the actions speak for themselves. Killing an old woman and almost killing a young kid? Both extremes at once… twice the transgression, deserves twice the punishment. Whatever he gets, it won’t be enough.
Troy is my cousin and a very good boy. I am happy to report he will make a full recovery and is home now. Please keep him in your prayers.

Kim is right in my opinion about mistakes and accidents…this man brought a knife with him…I know I don’t just “bring a knife,gun, baseball bat or any other weapon” with me when I go visiting people…unless I have the intention of hurting someone.It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that if someone is involed in drugs that breaking and entering will eventually lead to violence. his family had to know that there was some kind of problem with him. but he is an adult and Troy is not. Think about what he is going to go through for the rest of his life…the guilt he will feel because he tried to save his grandma and couldn’t. How about Troy’s mom…I’m sure not only does she have to deal with the loss of her mother but the fear she must have felt when Troy was in sugery having his heart repaired and the guilt of not being there to protect her son and mother. so while yes sometimes we can have sympathy for criminals this is not one of those cases. because in the long run the innocents of a child far outweighs any compassion for an adult that made a “mistake”

I know him and while he would never ever do something like this when I knew him, I can’t help but think why? I am sure that your grandmother is looking down on you and she’s VERY proud of you.. Looks like he ended up pleading guilty to to first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. In fact, I found so much information about his trial I decided to do an update for the front page.
