Who to believe, who to believe?
30-year-old Leticia Castro would have you believe that she had no idea that she was 8 months pregnant.
Leticia Castro hopes you trust her story - that on the 29th of September, 2004, as she was riding the Catalina Island ferry back from a Chamber of Commerce dinner with members of her extended family, she passed a blood clot.
According to Leticia, she was feeling a bit woozy and went to the bathroom.
While she was standing at the sink, a six-pound blood clot popped out from between her legs.
After passing this blood clot, Leticia Castro wrapped it up in paper towels and put it in a small plastic bag, which she placed into a trash can before emergency assistance arrived and found Leticia, who was barricaded in a bathroom stall, crying.
When asked what had happened, Leticia told the nurse that she had passed a blood clot and had flushed it down the toilet.
Everyone believed Leticia until she was examined at the hospital that night and doctors found -ta da! - a torn umbilical cord.
Police were called, trash was searched and the next morning a dead, full-term baby was found in a trash bag that had been taken off the boat the previous night.
Are you surprised? I was surprised. Are you?
The police were surprised to learn that the baby that had miraculously sprung forth from Leticia Castro’s loins was the product of her affair with a married man.
I bet that guy’s wife was surprised!
Now, for the other side of the story.
The prosecutor would have you believe that Leticia Castro knew that she was pregnant and covered it up from her friends and family because she didn’t want the extra hassle. The father of her other child had left her and the guy she was having an affair with wasn’t showing any signs of leaving his wife and running off to marry Leticia.
The prosecutor is of the opinion that Leticia Castro, even if she hadn’t known that she was pregnant, could, like most non-retarded individuals, have easily differentiated between a 6-pound blood clot and a 6-pound full-term baby girl:
The head, the hands, the legs. The length, the weight. The human flesh. She knew it then.
The prosecutor, after viewing Leticia Castro’s statements made to police and the facts available, would like you to know a few things:
- Leticia decided to sever the umbilical cord with her bare hands.
- Leticia had the clarity of mind to clean up the crime scene with towels and her own sweatshirt.
- Leticia put the baby into the trashcan that was hanging three feet up on the wall, instead of one that was on the ground (and more likely to be inspected).
- Leticia chose to tell people that something that was obviously a baby was nothing but a blood clot, even though that baby was alive for at least a few seconds and possibly up to four minutes.
- When Leticia came out of the bathroom and saw family members, she said two words before she fainted: “Mi nina,” which is Spanish for “My girl.”
- Leticia, in interviews with police and doctors, was able to recall all sorts of details about her little bathroom adventure. She remembered flushing the clot down the toilet, cleaning the floor with towels, and even remembered that there were extra trash bags under the liner of a trash can. She could remember all that, but on the subject of a baby, she was a little hazy.
All those facts were brought before a jury during Leticia Castro’s trial.
Her defense attorney, who certainly believes in earning his paycheck, explained that this mother of a now 8-year-old girl was telling everyone the truth, that she wasn’t a killer-type and that Leticia was in shock from the sudden birth.
She is in shock. You can spin it any way you want. She is in shock.
Leticia Castro is, after all, a wonderful human being who enjoys long walks on the beach, working hard at her job and getting impregnated by married men.
She’s not a killer. She’s an excellent mother. She’s a good person. She’s a hard worker. She’s responsible, by all accounts. She’s not aggressive. She’s not angry.
By the way. Have you ever seen a blood clot?
Here’s a blood clot:
And here’s what a baby looks like:
There’s a slight difference between the two.
Which account do you believe?
Is Leticia Castro a selfish wench who let her baby die and tried to cover it up?
Or is Leticia Castro a woman who was victimized by a married man who used her to satisfy his lusts, and suffered an unimaginably horrific night giving birth to a blood clot on a boat?
The jury came back after deliberations on the 13th of December, 2007. They decided that there wasn’t enough evidence that the baby had been born alive to hold Leticia accountable for murder.
Eleven of the jurors felt that there was enough evidence to convict Leticia Castro of manslaughter.
One dug her feet in and deadlocked the jury.
Leticia, who is now an undoubtedly happy person, will possibly go free on the 3rd of January, 2008, which is the deadline for lawyers to either set another trial date or resolve the case.

holy fucking shit!! are you kidding me? this story has made me angrier than any other story on this website. that’s a fucking crock of shit. the jury didn’t find her guilty. how the fuck do you not know the difference between a blood clot and a baby who would start crying once the cord was cut. you would think that a crying blood clot would catch the attention of her and she would come to terms that an umbilical cord doesn’t attach itself to a blood clot. what a fucking twot!!! I will be back to write more, right now I’m too angry. she will fucking burn in hell. I think the jury should as well.

“Take a moment and think about how easy it would be for someone to hide an episode like this from someone they’re dating, or married to.”
If you’re dating someone you need a background check on, I think you have some bigger issues to work out.

i personally know this person and she is a great person. i don’t think you should judge someone without knowing them. and for people to talk about someone like some people are is cruel. yeah, what happened was horrible but nobody knows exactly what happened and how things happened. so i think before anybody judges anybody else you should consider the things you do in your life that are probably more fucked up than what happened with leticia.

and also i am extremely happy that she is free and that she can have a second chance at doing the right thing and taking care of her loving daughter.

To take care of the other daughter she’ll probably want to use the 39 gallon Glad ForceFlex Outdoor Trash Bags. The bags they use in public restrooms tear too easily when stuffing more than a 12 pound body in them.

@Veronica
Are you seriously defending this lunatic? after about two month, doesn’t it become VERY obvious you’re not having your period anymore? i’m no woman, but i’d say that’s a dead giveaway for a pregnancy. we’re talking about someone who kept her pregnancy silent for whole duration up to the point where she actually gave birth to a little baby girl. i don’t give a wooden nickle about how nice a person she may be, she killed her own baby and should at least get serious jailtime. She could’ve asked for an abortion when she found out she was pregnant, but nooooooooo, she had to carry the child to the very end, maybe to try and presure the father into leaving his wife. when the time came to give birth, she saw no other way then to dump the child in a bin? such a clear lack of respect for human life cannot be ignored, no matter how nice a person she is.

I know it’s possible for a woman to get pregnant and go to full term without realizing it, but there’s NO DAMN WAY she didn’t know that was a baby that came out of there.

lol, there are a ton of women out there who date ex-felons who wallk out of our jail.
Those women, for the most part, never know that the love of their life have stolen from other people.
At least not until it happens to them.
(this is complicated by the fact that many inmates use aliases)

damn people, think a little about it! of fucking course she knew it was a fucking baby, put yourself for a second on her place. what would you say to your friends, “o guys i just came to bathroom and boen a baby and trashed it becasue i was fucking shocked and it born dead lol”? well, good for you if you would, she couldn’t. but this shit is still fucked up

ok, how is it possible not to know you’re pregnant. there’s morning sickness, hot flashes, weight gaining all in the stomach, soreness to the boobs, etc. You’ve got to be a fucking dummy not to know it. and what about the contractions? I don’t think a blood clot would have contractions.

True, maybe, MAYBE you could expect something like this from a clueless 14 year old that doesn’t even realize where babies come from, but this is a 30 year old woman who has been pregnant before and does know exactly what it feels like!

I have read articles about women who suddenly give birth to full term babies (and not kill them) without ever realizing they were pregnant, so I know it happens. If you’re really overweight, and carrying an underweight fetus, you might not notice the swelling. If your periods were always kind of irregular to begin with, you might not notice when they stop. etc etc. Killing the baby, however, there is no excuse for that.

She is a dumbass. “Oh, it was a blood clot! OMG, I am sooo smart!!! LAWL!” Haha, sounds like she needs to be to put away somewhere. Maybe she will be treated, maybe she won’t.

Found this little tidbit at http://www.presstelegram.com/search/ci_7705802?IADID=Search-www.presstelegram.com-www.presstelegram.com
Castro, who had a 5-year-old daughter at the time, has maintained that what symptoms she did have were attributed to her diagnosed hyperthyroidism: irregular menstrual periods, fatigue, swelling in her abdomen.
Glaser said Castro was even worried enough to visit the doctor twice in August - when she was eight months pregnant.
At the time, medical staff apparently believed her problems were caused by her illness and did not order any pregnancy tests.
“It was those doctors visits that saved her,” said Juror No. 6. “If you’re trying to hide a pregnancy, you don’t visit a doctor.”
But once she gave birth on the boat, jurors found it hard to believe that Castro didn’t realize or could not remember that she had a full-term baby. Castro said she believed she had passed a blood clot.
“We think she knew she had a baby and panicked,” Juror No. 6 said.
But one juror - the lone holdout on the involuntary manslaughter charge - believed that Castro could have been in a state of shock, as the defense has maintained, and was not aware of what she was doing.
“It was a tough case,” Juror No. 6 said. “We were really close on the manslaughter charges.”

How the hell do you not know you’re not pregnant?!!! Babies KICK they grab your ribs!! Thats a bunch of shit. You KNOW the difference between baby and blood clots! I dont think she shoulda even had an abortion (altho that woulda been better) she shouldnt have been sleeping with a married man and not been ready for the CONSEQUENCES AND RESPONSIBILTY. She should be in jail!!!!!

When I had my first child, I had no idea I was pregnant. I had menstruated every month, like clockwork. When I was in labor, I thought it was indigestion and then maybe a horrible stomach ache - when it didn’t get any better I knew I had to get to a doctor, which is when, of course, I found that I was pregnant and delivering! It is possible to be unaware of a pregnancy - however, I don’t believe it’s possible to not know that you are giving birth - a big hint is the human being (infant sized) sliding from between your thighs!!!

Look, i dont doubt that you did not know you were pregnant…who am i to judge….
But i have been pregnant six times. My first was still born at six months and my other five i delivered without any problems.
Now the first three months, i felt kinda ill. I didnt have morning sickness, i had ALL FUCKIN DAY sickness.
By the time that settled down, the kicking started. At first it was just little flutters, but as baby gets bigger, the kicks get WAY stronger and most nights are sleepless cause they kick around so much.
The last three months were the most exhausting. Swollen ankles, peeing every five seconds, being kicked by the next David Beckham from the inside, terrible indegestion and overall tiredness.
Man, even if i didnt know i was pregnant, i would know something was up.
And as for her not knowing the difference between a blood colt and a crying baby…BULL FUCKING SHIT!!!
That twelth juror is an idiot. Leticia is an idiot. They need to both go to hell.

I also gained only ten pounds and had no stomach to speak of - never felt the baby move and never had any prenatal care!
I was so blessed that my baby was born healthy and today is still healthy and relatively happy (depending on how many times I’ve told him no that day).

So she was smart enough to know what a blood clot is, but not what a baby is?

Well I’m still married. The “woman” in question left me. We did have a 10lb blood clot.
But I have learned to either wear a rubber or pull out. No clotting or the blood from me. Although I have been told that their eyes sometimes get stickey. Does that count?

Well I talked to my mom yesterday. I was close to 11lbs and so was my brother. So my daughter comes from big babies. My exwife did tear during the birth.
My daughter is average size now. A little on the skinney side but strong.

My brother was 9lbs and is to this very day a big boy ( man) but i was smallish, 7lb 4oz.
My daughter was my biggest at 8lb and she is tall. She is only nine but as tall as me ( 5ft 6inches) and she has bewbs and stuff already. Its just not right.
She was in a talent quest a few weeks back and a teen male was checking her out. It took all my will not to rip his eyes out lol.
