  • Lori Drew May Not Be Completely Off The Hook

America’s favorite mom, Lori Drew, who evaded any legal entanglements in her home state of Missouri, might have to deal with federal charges.

In the U.S. attorney’s office in Los Angeles, however, prosecutors are considering the feasibility of charging Lori Drew with defrauding MySpace. They’re also looking at federal wire fraud and cyber fraud statutes.

    Uh-oh.

Remember how Lori Drew created the “Josh Evans” persona?

Remember how Lori Drew mentioned the fact on a police report that she and an employee had “instigated and monitored” Josh Evans’s profile in order to screw with Megan Meier’s head?

Remember how the pair took it so far that Megan Meier was driven to suicide?

Well, if there is any justice in the world, Lori Drew will have some time to remember what she did, to mull it over a bit, while she sits in a federal penitentiary for a while.

For justice to be done, Lori Drew wouldn’t have to serve a long time in prison. Just…time.

Unfortunately, we here at PYSIH.com don’t have quite that much faith in the United States Judicial system. We’re quite sure that Jim Briscoe, who represents Lori Drew, will be able to muddy the waters just enough to get Lori Drew off whatever charges might be brought against her.

wow…she changed her look. I had to hover over the picture to figure out who she was. Ha ha.
Let’s have a little faith. Just a little and hope that these guys in LA can come up with something. You never know. I say it’s worth every try.

I think she looks worse! I don’t blame her for trying to hide. Too bad Lori that you tried to be a bff to your daughter instead of an example on how people need to treat one another. She looks older with that dark hair. She also looks troubled. Too Bad!

I don’t think she deserves jail time. She teased a kid — harassed, even — but in this life you’re responsible for your own actions and while thirteen-years-old is young, it’s not so young that you can’t make your own decisions.

Megan Meier killed HERSELF. Enough of the fucking lynch mob.

hey Chelsey, remember why Megan killed herself?
i think some jailtime (or perhaps a lot) would serve Mrs Drew well.

Chelsey, and know you know how Lori Drew jsutified her actions. Never mind the fact she tormented a girl who suffered from depression ,(and for those of you who have never suffered from it, rest assured it is a real disease) and never apologized for her actions. She deserves all the scorn she can get.

I could be wrong, but I don’t think depression qualifies as a disease, as it does not actually attack the body. I think it’s classified as either or both of: A mental disorder or an organic chemical imbalance. Both of which can be treated successfully SOME of the time with meds.

I think that it’s worth saying that it’s not really important that the girl suffered from depression. What the L Drew did isn’t really worse because she did it to a depressed person vs a non-depressed person. In fact, what she did could certainly CAUSE depression in a teen who otherwise was not depressed.

Her actions were vile no matter who she did them to, and if anything, I think she needs psych help herself, since most non-disordered people would never think of doing what she did.

I don’t like that she may not be legally punished. I do like that it seems an old-fashioned ’shunning’ most certainly HAS affected her life. Seems her advertising business isn’t doing so well.

What is sad is that her supposed excuse for what she did was to ’suss’ out what people thought about her daughter. Not sure I buy that, but nevertheless, I’m guessing that right about now she knows what people think of both her and her daughter.

If you want your child to be well-liked, this is probably not the best way to go about it.

I would like to be able to read the original communications between the fake ‘guy’ and the teen, since it’s been hinted at that it contained sexual talk, or at least some indication of the context/content. If so, why can’t that be pursued ala ‘To catch a predator’?

Not a new picture, saw this pict several months ago when I was originally researching this story. I would agree that Mrs. Drew deserves a place in hell; in all my research I have found she has no remorse or takes any reasonability for the Childs death when in fact she had a direct roll in pushing this child to kill her self

You think the roll of Satans mother is taken

      I agree with GloryBug.
      What Lori did is fraud.
I feel that there is little (there is some) difference between what Lori Drew did and what these sexual predators do in their fraudulent use of the net. The real difference is that the sexual predators’ ultimate intent is different, but they both use the same techniques - fraudulant use of internet resources with intent to cause some type of harm.

While I agree with Britney’s arguement that we can not hold Lori Drew responsible for Megan Meier’s suicide (mostly because of the precident is will set), my version of common sense says that she should be prosicuted for the crimes that she committed which led to Megan Meier’s suicide.

If I, as a man, could be held responsible for Megan Meier’s suicide because I harassed her, stalked her etc… using the net, then Lori Drew deserves the same treatment that I would get.

This little dispute should have stayed amoung the kids, Lori’s job as a parent is to be sure that a spat does not get out of hand, instead she decided to escalate it. What type of adult is her child going to be?
No wonder we are going to hell in a handbasket!

Fred and Glorybug have it right. Any clear thinking adult can see how immature, and wrong Lori Drew’s actions were. Not only did she stoop to a level of maturity befitting of a 13 year old, but she had explicit conversations with a minor and eventually drove said minor to kill herself. She deserves to be punished to the full extent of the law, and moreover she deserves a spot in the lowest level of hell.

Now, to all of you insensitive idiots (I’m looking your way Chelsy), depression is an affliction that effects a large portion of our population. It also effects teenagers who are still growing and maturing mentally much harder than it does adults. Maybe YOU YOURSELF can deal with the stresses of being human better than this poor girl could, but I assume you are also an adult capable of logical thought. I think it is safe to assume as well that you don’t have your best friend’s mother, your best friend herself, and another unrelated person stalking you on the internet and playing with your fragile ego. So please, don’t fucking condescend, you are no more or less of a human being than this poor 13 year old girl was. Your life is just as valuable as hers was, and her death could definitely have been prevented if this so called “Mother” had set a better example for her children, and for mothers worldwide.

Contrary to popular belief, depression IS a disease. And it does have physical effects: insomnia and loss of energy for example, or occasionally great agitation. I have suffered from fits of extreme depression most of my life and when things get very bad I can’t sit still.

Megan Meier was obviously sick to begin with. Normal, sane teens do not kill themselves because they were harassed by a person on MySpace. That said, Lori Drew should bear responsibility for her actions and they almost certainly contributed to Megan’s death. The gun may have been cocked and loaded to begin with, but Lori Drew pulled the trigger.

well even at the funeral Lori admited to knowing that she had depression and suffered from it and that was why she “didn’t feel that bad” about the situation and suicide

      Aaron -
Thanks for really bringing to light the role depression truely played in this.

The Drew women just LOOK mean. Megan looks sweet. Can’t Lori and Sarah smile?

Children need parents who they can trust, people who will look out for their best interests both long and short term. Once you have a child’s respect, then you, as a parent first, can have a friendship secondly.

Sure we all want to be liked by our children, we all want to be “cool”, but a child will empty a bank account at the mall forgetting about the need for food until they are hungry!

As a parent Lori coud have supported her daughter in many different ways
      1. Lori coud have told Sarah about some of the catty things she did as a kid and let Sarah pick and choose.
      2. Realizing that the friendship was on/off thing, just been nore of a friend to her daughter as to fill the temprary void
      3. Get Sarah involved with other stuff and help her move on from such a friendship if she felt it was damaging.
      4. Talk with Megan’s parents.

Anyway by given Sarah what she wanted immediately, Lori has effectively destroyed what Sarah really needs - a close friendship. Further more Lori has fucked up her daugher’s world beyond just Megan. Who is going to trust either of them again?

I’m sorry, has making fun of people on the internet been outlawed? It hasn’t, you say?

Then treat Lori no different than any other internet troll. Whether Megan Meier killed herself or not is irrelevant, and has infinitely more to do with her mental state than with anything Lori Drew did.

If you’re going to jail Drew, don’t forget to book all Megan’s other schoolmates, who joined in on the hounding and taunting at the very end — a fact which seems to be overlooked by the majority of you twits but which no doubt had a great deal to do with Meier’s breakdown.

P.S. Aaron, I’ve had chemical depression for a long time. I’m not being insensitive, I’m being fucking reasonable, something the rest of you show yourselves to be incapable of each time a story is posted here and the foaming at the mouth demanding the return public lynchings begins anew. Most of these stories are horrible, and the people in them deserve punishment, but do let the punishment fit the crime.

Lori’s crime is making fun of a girl on MySpace. It happens every day, so jail all the offending MySpacers or jail none of them.

just because its not illegal to make fun of someone on the internet doesnt mean you should knowingly take it to a level where someone with a mental illness would potentially be in danger.

if you’re going to claim that Megan was responsible for her own actions (despite being a minor) i’d say Lori was therefore responsible for hers.

and as you know seeing as you have depression yourself, you are more vulnerable and less rational in your decision making in the face of extreme stress. a 13 year old with limited life experience and decision making skills is obviously more vulnerable again and as this adult knew this and continued to deliberately harass her with no remorse…that demands some accountability.

      cheers

I don’t care what anyone says…Lori Drew is criminally and morally responsible for this girls death… A grown woman should have known better-PERIOD! If her daughter had harassed Megan Meier all on her own it would be more understandable, kids do these thing- but then it is the adults job to put the child in their place and MOMMY DEAREST over here didn’t do a goddamn thing except instigate and make things worse… she was worried about her daughter then- now that poor girl probably has no friends- good job MOM- you single-handedly ruined your daughters life, and ended another 13 year olds life- be proud you FAT BITCH! Lori Drew needs to go to prison- atleast until she is remorseful and not for nothing- all of you people who are saying to lay off Lori Drew would be changing your tune pretty quick if it was a child in your family- so think about that!

Lori Drew deserves whatever is coming to her. I think that her actions were so egregious that some sort of punishment is warranted. What she did to that girl was mental abuse, period. We punish adults everyday for abuses perpetrated against children. As far as I’m concerned, Mrs. Drew is just as bad as the majority of the sad sacks featured on this site. She decided to engage in completely unacceptable behavior, using techniques that internet savvy pervs use to reel in victims. She can’t be surprised that these are the consequences and once karma catches up with her, as it seems it is, she’s going to have to take it.

Chelsy you say that we are all forgetting that this girl’s middleschool aged classmates taunted her at the end but no one is forgetting anything. You have to remember these kids are middleschoolers and therefore not to be held at the same accountability level of a woman in her 40’s.

Also, people who harrass others on the web get arrested all the time… Haven’t you ever watched ” To catch a redator”?

Chelsey: Harrassment is harrassment stop splitting hairs. Anyways, you’d think someone who is “Chemically depressed” would have a bit more empathy for someone in that young girl’s position. Regardless of the fact that she killed herself no one at the age that Lori Drew is at should be acting that way. The fact that her actions ended in the loss of a young girl’s life only further proves that fact.

Either way, you can continue to have a shitty attitude about it and throw around the “lynch mob” term a few more times. In my eyes this Lori Drew woman deserves jailtime, and definitely deserves a nice toasty spot in hell.

Harrassing someone on the internet is pretty much like winning the special olypics. Chelsea, you may think you are right, but look at the facts. I don’t think many people are with you on your “facts.” Lori still went online and impersonated someone that she was not. She can STILL get into trouble for doing that.

      [Reply]

    30. comment number 30 by: ShushGirl

Last time I checked, the internet was FULL of people impersonating people they are not - do we not have aliases? That blogger you like who says she’s a SAHM named Betty - is she really? Come on. The character Drew was using was completely concocted, not based on a real person, FICTION. How exactly does one impersonate a fictional character they themselves made up? When MySpace is forced to verify the accuracy of everything posted regarding identity, we’ll see it shut down immediately. This is the INTERNET. You may not like the anonymity aspect of it when things go so terribly wrong as they have in this case, but IT IS WHAT IT IS.

Therefore, that argument is moot and I wish everyone would get over it. Stick to the argument that Drew knew the girl’s mental history and harassed her (and incited others to) anyway. At least that one somewhat holds water.
