This REALLY hit me hard because we’ve had a similar incident in our family. My mother had weekend custody of my 4 year old (half) sister and i. She changed weekends with my sister’s dad and got confused and thought i was to come with her one weekend since my sister was there as well. She was supposed to pick me up saturday afternoon because i wanted to see her even though it was my dad’s weekend to have me. She never came. She injected a lot of morphine or whatever she had into her arm and died in the hallway. My sister thought she was sleeping so she went to her room and grabbed some toys, a pillow and a blanket and slept next to my mother’s body all night. Luckily a friend called the house and she was able to answer and help soon arrived, but still the thought of what happened to her haunts me, and this story brought it back to life. So incredibly tragic :,(

Mike – my deepest sympathy to your family. I know even years later this still hurts. I personally have dealt with a family member (my mother) who distances herself from the entire family. Half the time we don’t know if she is alive or dead because she wont answer her phone or door. I pray that God gives you peace and the endurance not to think about the “what ifs”.

It’s like, being trapped in a long dark chasm with no voice and no way of getting help. It’s terrible to think of that kind of shattering loneliness.
