Melissa Arrington
In November 2007, 27-year-old Melissa Arrington was found guilty of two counts of aggravated DUI and one count of negligent homicide.
These charges stemmed from her actions on the night of the first of December, 2006, when Melissa Arrington was driving around Pima County in Arizona with her blood-alcohol level at .156 – twice Arizona’s legal limit.
On that night, while driving around drunk, Melissa Arrington hit 45-year-old bicyclist Paul L’Ecuyer with her car. Paul L’Ecuyer wasn’t even on the road when Melissa Arrington hit him – she swerved off the road, hit the guy, then kept driving for 800 feet before stopping.
That’s pretty bad.
Driving drunk wasn’t a one-time thing for Melissa Arrington, either, who was driving that night on a suspended license for a prior DUI.
So Melissa Arrington is pretty much an idiot.
She’s also a bitch.
A week after Melissa Arrington had been in jail, she was talking on the phone with a friend of hers. This is something nearly every jail inmate has done.
What jail officials don’t usually mention when inmates first walk into a jail is that with jail phone calls, inmates have no expectations of privacy unless they’re talking to their lawyer.
Melissa Arrington was not talking to her lawyer at the time, however.
So, like many phone calls inmates make from jails all around this fine country of ours, this telephone conversation of Melissa Arrington’s was recorded.
Now, during this conversation, Melissa Arrington’s friend told her that the friend thought that Melissa should get a medal and a parade because Melissa had taken out a “tree hugger, a bicyclist, a Frenchman and a gay guy all in one shot.”
Melissa Arrington thought this was funny, because she laughed.
Her friend told her that he knew it was a terrible thing to say, to which Melissa Arrington responded:
No it’s not.
Oh really?

Pima County Superior Court Judge Michael Cruikshank was not amused, mentioning at Melissa Arrington’s sentencing that the conversation was “breathtaking in its inhumanity” and that Ms. Arrington should have been rendered silent by such shocking and disgusting sentiments.
Because Judge Cruikshank was not amused, instead of giving Melissa Arrington a mere four year prison sentence, Melissa Arrington was slapped with 10 and a half years in prison. This sentence is just a year under the maximum sentence allowed by judicial sentencing guidelines and probably made Paul L’Ecuyer’s family feel a little bit better about justice in America.
Melissa Arrington has, since being sentenced, announced that words can’t begin to express how sorry she feels about what she’s done and that once she is out of prison, she hopes that Mothers Against Drunk Driving will allow her a forum to share her story.

Sad as it is, many people are blasting this judge for giving her a harsher sentence based on the tape. Why is beyond me. She’s shown her attitude towards other people’s lives. Someone who laughs and jokes about a person she killed is someone who deserves to be locked up and away from society. She may have said those nice sentences in court but her conversation on the tape shows anyone with a brain what kind of person she really is.
What a bitch. And why isn’t she getting anything on murdering the guy? If she swerved out of her way to hit the guy and was laughing about it days later you can pretty much guarnatee that she did it on purpose.
She just doesn’t get it. I cannot find any justification for her attitude. An accident, even while intoxicated, can be forgiven, but to laugh and joke about it shows such disregard for others. My heart goes out to Mr. L’Ecuyer’s family
and friends.
She deserves this sentence and more. She certainly has no place in society. I cannot find the words to express how sorry I am she was born.
She wasn’t just being open because she thought the phone was private- according to the L’Ecuyer family, she showed no remorse whatsover.
This is giving me a new perspctive on Michael Gangon. At least he had the decency to feel bad for taking someone else’s live (lives, actually).
To joke about killing someone is surely deserving of hell.
Would’nt this be premeditated murder ? If your drunk and still decide to get behind the wheel, you are pretty much saying to yourself..” whatever happens..happens ” I think her sentence was way off. It should’ve been more like 30 yrs. The friend on the phone should have his name published in the local paper, so his neighbors know what kind of prick they have living among them.

This woman disgusts me! Seriously, who laughs about someone getting hit by a dumb drunk driver? This woman obviously has no feelings at all. Another thing someone should know is that EVERY conversation is recorded in jail! When you dial out on the phones in the jails, it usually tells you that you are being recorded. Drunk driving is not funny no matter what. The only way it is funny or even close to being funny is maybe if its on a tshirt or something? I know of a woman on my myspace page that was a victom of one of these accidents and she lost her daughter that was inside of her. She also can’t have kids because of the whole episode now. =( SAD…

The judge certainly did the right thing here. This was appalling. I only wish he could have given her even more time.
Michael Gagnon and her should be forced to live together after being neutered and spayed – they deserve eachother and I do NOT want more people like either of them.
Michael Gagnon was beligerant at the accident scene, of course he showed remorse later on – he had been caught! What is the real Michael Gagnon like when he thinks he’s in private? I am sure quite like this POS is when she thinks she’s in private!
I am glad to see that a judge has the balls to use his/her discretion as to impose the max. With an attitude like this, I am sure she’d be a quick repeat offender if she got a light sentence.
These two (Michael Gagnon and Melissa Arrington) should be used as live blood banks, organ farms and crash test morons (they are not human enough to be dummies)
She earned her sentence, and she has earned hell.

While I do not like the idea of a “hate crime”, I am glad that the judge had enough common sense as to impose a tougher sentnce on this bitch because of her hate for the victim.
“Hate crimes” are another bandaide put on top of a broken system. Judges like this are what makes the system work. Ones that know that some people deserve a minimum while other POS deserve the max! (and maybe more)
Hate crime did work with the Matthew Shepard situation in 98 in Laramie. Despite what Phelps and gang think that it was because he was shorting the two dick heads who killed me drug money, it was because he was gay. Hello? It’s Wyoming.

Her “friend” made matters worse for her. She did not say all those bad things, but just laughed/agreed at the comments the guy who called her made. She obviously has low self esteem (stripper, bad marriage with children) and just went along with the conversation. The “friend” that called her should also be punished. They found ‘Biological Material’ in the box, and wont have the Autopsy until sometime in the day. They cops went to talk to her about it, and she told them two more young were burried in the back of the house

Peole that don’t care, don’t stop. All they are worried about is their own skin. The drunk guy that killed my brother ran into the woods and hid for three hours until the cops found him. He got 14 years, but it is unlikely that he will spend them all in prsion. He has already been up for parole a few times, but we made a deal that made sure he had to serve at least half of his sentence. That’s something, I guess.

I also let people post whatever they like, unless the comments are racist or homophobic (Like ol’ Darrel Fine here). I admit I almost had to laugh, despite feeling sorry for that guy. Not at WHAT she said, of course, but at HOW and WHERE she said it, probably adding some well-deserved years to her already quite-long time. What a stupid bitch.
