  • Travis “TJ” Mullis

Travis MullisIt will take a very special man to fill the boots of 21-year-old Travis “T.J.” Mullis - a true renaissance man, as you can see on his MySpace profile.

One of his friends has told the press a little bit about Mr. Travis Mullis, aka DJ Roc:

He was kind of a punk kid. He did some schystering, some finagling, and some bad candid deals.

Why Travis Mullis would count a reject from the prohibition era as a friend, I don’t know, but there you are - how Travis Mullis and others like him are perceived.

No, Travis Mullis, also known as DJ Roc, has not been a particularly successful individual, mostly due to his problematic temper. Adopted when he was a baby, Travis never worked out his anger issues, and they may be the reason why he had a juvenile record.

Two years ago, Travis Mullis worked at a picture frame shop with that same friend. According to that friend, Travis wasn’t any more apt at selling picture frames than he was at checking people out who are buying tampons and condoms:

He had kind of a nasty mouth with customers and my boss fired him for that.

Travis Mullis bounced from job to job. He worked at a Houston Walgreens for a while, but was fired because of his habit of yelling at customers and co-workers.

Now, some people just aren’t meant for customer service jobs - we understand that.

If customer service doesn’t work for you, however, why not try blogging? From what we understand, it can be fairly lucrative.

Caren Kohberger With BabyRegardless of the many flaws of Travis Mullis, 27-year-old Caren Kohberger, who met DJ Roc on the Internet, decided that Travis Mullis would be the perfect guy to make a baby with. She decided this despite the fact that Travis Mullis was already the father of both a boy and a girl, yet had decided to sign away all his parental rights to those children.

Following the steps of many illustrious Americans before them, Caren Kohberger and Travis Mullis hooked up and, as happens when a mommy and daddy love each other very much, a baby came into the world.

Caren Kohberger and Travis Mullis named the little boy Alijah James Mullis. He was cute.

Mullis TrailerOn the 29th of January, 2008, Travis Mullis woke up early enough that nobody else was awake in the trailer but an eight-year-old girl.

Travis Mullis asked the little girl if she would like to go to a local school playground to play for a bit. This sounded like a good idea to the girl, so she agreed to go.

Once they arrived at the playground, Travis Mullis got to the real reason he invited the girl to come to the playground with him - he wanted to have sex with her.

Displaying a remarkably strong willpower and sense of self, the little girl refused to take off her pants when Travis Mullis asked. When Travis tried to pull off her pants himself, she told him:

    No! Take me back home.

Apparently intimidated by this strong-willed eight-year-old girl, Travis Mullis took her back home to the trailer.

Good for her! It’s about time we heard about a relatively positive result from an encounter between a pedophile and his prey.

So Travis Mullis came back home, picked up his son, Alijah Mullis, and, at about 5 in the morning, put the boy in a carseat in the back of a silver, four-door, 2002 Hyundai Accent with duct tape on the rear passenger side door handle and Texas license plate 067-RJP.

After telling Caren Kohberger that he was going to go get the car repaired, Travis drove off into the morning light.

Jesse and Esmeralda ZaroFour hours later, a couple who were out looking for birds and coyotes, Jesse Zaro Jr., a Galveston County jail employee and his wife Esmeralda, saw something odd on the side of the road.

They thought it looked like a doll, which was understandable. There were legs and feet visible from the road, and that is what caught Jesse Zaro’s attention. He got out of the car to see what it was and will probably regret it for the rest of his life.

Yup. You guessed it. Dead baby.

Specifically, a dead baby with massive head trauma and a baby car seat nearby.

911 was called and the area cordoned off.

Alijah Mullis outlineDetectives arrived and pieced together this baby’s presence together with calls that Caren Kohberger had been making to area hospitals, asking if her son, Alijah Mullis and her boyfriend, Travis Mullis, had checked in.

Caren Kohberger identified Alijah Mullis from a photograph that police took at the scene, but even with her id, the baby was in such rough shape that a positive id had to be attempted first with footprints and then with DNA taken from Caren Kohberger.

Travis Mullis was on the run for a few days, heading from Texas to Maryland, where he had family and friends. Travis would stop at churches along the way, tell pastors a sob story, collect gas money and continue on his way.

Travis made it as far as Philadelphia, which is surprising due to the fact that there was a nationwide manhunt going on for him. Even more surprising is that Travis Mullis turned himself into police, walking into a police station and telling the cops who he was and that he wanted to talk.

    And talk he did.

According to the confession Travis Mullis made to Philadelphia police, he was the one responsible for killing his son.

    That’s disturbing enough.

The fact that Travis Mullis stomped on Alijah Mullis’ head four times until Travis felt his little boy’s skull collapsing took the whole scenario to an entirely different level.

Texas is a capital murder state, which does not bode well for Mr. Travis Mullis. According to Galveston County District Attorney Kurt Sistrunk:

We took what evidence we had to a judge and a judge authorized a bond and a charge of capital murder. So we’ve passed that first hurdle. That charge will be later reviewed by a grand jury and we’ll take it from there.

Caren Kohberger, who initially cooperated with police, has now hired an attorney and has decided to take a less cooperative stance.

Update - now Caren Kohberger has been charged with child endangerment because she handed Alijah to Travis Mullis at about 4:30 in the morning after Travis told Kohberger that he had to get out of the mobile home “or he was going to hurt one of the kids.”

Travis Mullis 2Travis Mullis has been charged with capital murder in Galveston, Texas. He will also have to deal with a felony charge of enticing a child. It is entirely likely that he will never taste free air again, which is perfectly fine with us here at People You’ll See In Hell.

    Update:

On the 12th of August, 2008, Prosecutors said that they would seek the death penalty for Travis Mullis, who is accused of stomping his 3-month-old son to death to stop him from crying.

Assistant Galveston County District Attorney Larry Drosnes met privately with the defense attorney for Travis Mullis - Robert Loper - outside the courtroom of District Judge John Ellisor to inform him of the decision.

The decision to seek the death penalty means that Judge Ellisor must appoint a second defense attorney, Loper said. Judge Ellisor could appoint a second attorney at the next hearing on the 19th of September, 2008.

Robert Loper, who expects a trial date to be set for sometime next year, was uncertain about what role Mullis’ history of mental illness and troubled family life might play in his defense.

This is sickening! Man, and I thought K. McCoy was sick. I just don’t understand these people and killing their children! Seriously, what is going on with the world today! I am a young adult that has been trying for children for 4 years now and I can’t even have kids. I would cherish a kid and spoil the hell out of it! Man, this is sooo sad. =0(

If he wanted to get away, why take the baby? That only makes sense to a truly evil person. He couldn’t control an 8 year old, so he went after a 3 month old.

Some people do not deserve children. Why harm a tiny baby? It didn’t do anything wrong. It’s not even old enough to know what “wrong” is.

I can only hope it died quickly. And that this scumbag gets his head stomped on in prison.

Investigate the sperm hatchery. She may have abusedthe baby first, hoping that the father would go to a hospital and if the authorities were brought in, she’d lie her ass off getting him in trouble.
So before we put Travis in the chair where he belongs, we should see if Caren should be in his lap!

I’m from Galveston and they now say they may charge a second person and I bet its the mom. I’m sorry but if my husband left with my baby, and we weren’t arguing, and he didn’t answer his cell, I don’t believe I would start calling hospitals. Would you? And maybe, just in case he got in an accident, wouldn’t the hospital call her?? And why wouldn’t I cooperate with police? Something is very very fishy with the mom.

It just tore my heart out to read what that monster did to that baby. How could you do that to a little baby that your supposed to protect???

You have to apply, pay and pass a test to drive a car but any stupid @ss idiot can be a parent.

My feet are cringing just thinking about crushing a skull, let alone a baby’s skull, under my feet. ugh.

yes something is suspicious about the mother. maybe Travis was suppose to take the baby to the hospital after the mother did something to it; maybe she’s using the car repair as a cover up; maybe Travis dumped the baby so it he could get away from the “inticing” radar for the little girl; maybe he didn’t kill the baby at all; maybe he did.

See, I cannot make a connection between wanting to molest your eight year old step daughter and then murdering your own baby because the step daughter said no. and why would the 8 year old want to go to the school playground so early? it had to be way before 5AM….

there are major shenanigans up with the mom. There is a blog called the dreamin’ demon with a gazillion posts, some from people who “knew” mom from her online Fubar account, some who have just done a lot of internet “sleuthing” and the stuff coming out over there is crazy. It’s worth wading through.

This “father” is a POS who will get his just due. This mother, I think, will prove to have some involvement and I hope get her just due as well.

This baby was OH so gorgeous. Before mom started erasing things from her MULTITUDE of blogs and posts and making all of her previously public pages private, I was able to see a lot of pictures of him, and he was quite simply a stunning baby boy. He just had a lightness about him that was incredible and hard to fathom considering his parents.

God save us all if this is what is allowed to happen to one so precious.

Hey, now-on Caren’s myspace page she quite cleary states that her mood is depressed. Does that sound like the mood of someone that is involved in the killing of a baby? She’s depressed dammit, depressed! That means she’s totally bummed. You don’t just post that you’re “depressed” on myspace for no reason.
And T.J. - what a waste. I looked at his myspace page. So much potential, so much promise - all gone because of a little mistake. I hope the judge can overlook the stomping and understand that his romantic overtures had been spurned and T.J. was probably feeling a little emotional and vulnerable. I daresay T.J. is depressed too. He lost a beloved child that day also.

      [Reply]

    20. comment number 20 by: Fubar

People have their opinions. TJ admitted to stomping on this child’s head. With no remorse. How could a father do this to a 3 month old child. I am sure they will both plead insanity, depression, anything to get them a lesser sentence. I hope she is innocent. But the odds are against her.

Oh - and as far as a MySpace status. Many people have their status as such but that doesn’t mean they are as so.
She has been claiming depression for some time now. Way before she even had the baby. So it isn’t just recently!

She is depressed probably because she has no friends left and if she does, they are all against her in some way or another doubting her role in all of this if she is guilty of knowing something.

She has already told the police 2 different stories in the beginning. Not cooperating with them all of a sudden and obtaining a lawyer doesn’t seem so good.

First not being listed as a suspect, but now they have other reasons to believe different. Strange but oddly true.

No matter what happens it wont bring that precious baby back. I just hope justice will be served for all parties involved.

Admin- You write a really good story. Most of the time. Sometimes, though, like this story, the ball gets dropped.

      Blahblahblah crushed his child’s skull.

      What? Rewind!

I know it’s probably not your fault, and you probably don’t have the answers. But it’s still frustrating.

I kind of like that you bring up adoption issues, and not in a good way. Adoption fluff is all well and good, but it aint real. Not to say that all adoptees kill people or anything. Goodness.

I think it is important that adoptive issues get discussed. Adoptive parents need to be aware of attachment disorder, and should not be sold on the dream that they are getting a kid with a blank slate. Adoptees should have resources to deal with attachment disorders.

Some people might say that the fact that the alleged perp was adopted is not relevant and should not have been brought up.
      I tend to disagree.

While I have no idea if being adopted has any importance in this crime, I think it’s important to get adoption issues on the front page.

I think maybe people who have multiple children, and who have adopted before may be equipped to deal with an adopted child. I am not so sure that a couple who has never had any children before, cannot have their own children, is in the same ballpark.

Before anyone jumps down my throat, I’m adopted and have helped many people with their adoption searches. I’m not just talking out of my ass.

Having children, whether you adopt them or not, is a little bit harder than a lot of people think, in my opinion.

It’s not all butterflies and roses, quiet little cooing sighs…. sometimes they scream their bloody heads off for no reason! And the crap that comes out of their south end hourly smells like shit! Ok, that made me laugh (I’m easily amused, obviously)… so my work is done.

I can trust me dog more then I could probably ever trust anyone else out there. She has probably cared about me more then any human I have ever met in my life. =0) Considering I am not close to my family what so ever and I am still fairly young.

Anyway, anyone who kills their own innocent child, goes to hell. There is no ifs, ands, or buts about it. A child has done nothing to you. Yes, it may have been a pain in the butt by crying but that is about it.

Kids are a serious pain in the butt a lot of times. BUT…ya just can’t go around stomping their little heads in the dirt. It just ain’t done. I have SO wanted to beat the snot out of my kids a few times, but I restrained myself. :) They have had spankings for sure. But they will tell you in a heartbeat that they have a good mama. My boys are grown and I sometimes want to beat the crap out of them but they are big enough to take care of themselves now. When they were tiny and helpless and all the crying got to me, I just held them and cried with them. There is really not much else you can do. I hate hearing about shit like this. It makes me sick to my stomach.

I just got this from our local news website:

(February 6, 2008)–A Texas murder suspect and his police escort were barred from boarding a Southwest Airlines flight from Philadelphia to Houston because of mix-up over handcuffs.

Galveston police traveled to Philadelphia to return Travis Mullis for a court appearance Wednesday on a capital murder charge.

He’s accused of stomping to death his infant son.

Police Lt. Jorge Trevino tells the Houston Chronicle that Southwest Airlines wouldn’t let Mullis and his police escort on the flight Tuesday.

Police thought they’d gotten the go-ahead from the airline in advance because they agreed to a Southwest policy that Mullis not be handcuffed.

An airline spokesman says Galveston police didn’t check with airline officials before attempting to board the aircraft.

He says prisoners being transported aboard an airline must have their hands restrained, but Southwest doesn’t allow prisoners to be handcuffed by law enforcement officials on its aircraft.

Mullis and his escort ended up making the trip on Continental Airlines.

I think it’s kinda funny, but we need to hurry up and get this dumbass back to Texas!! Quick!! :)

I don’t what know her involvement in the case is, so far there’s only mostly specualtion since she lawyered up. I agree that if she did have knowledge of this murder (she is acting suspiciously, changing stories, etc) or participated in it, she should be punished, depending on whatever charges they can give her. And that bastard Travis/TJ should have his head stomped in, I’m sure there’s somebody in prison willing to give him the same treatment he gave his baby.

I cannot pass judgment on this man, only God has that right. Justice will be served either in this life or the other side. Maybe both. This little child is sitting with God now so he is in a better place than a world that his parents didn’t care enough.

Yes, it’s a shame that we are seeing so much violence against children and others.

Remember to treat each person with respect and kindness every day as we do not now when our last day on earth will be or some one else and I really do not think any one wants to leave to the other side knowing they were mean or rude to some one else, especially a loved one.

      ***************
Do you think your prayers would have saved that little baby??? Before you go to bed each night…do you pray that we can all get through the next day without a child having to DIE? Brutally??? At the hands of their parent/s? Throw the population of pedophiles in with your nightly prayers too….maybe that will help. I’m sure it will…prayers fix everything, right?

You can keep praying…..as for me, I think I’m gonna get a gun. I don’t know much about the bible…but, isn’t there something in there about an ‘eye for an eye’? Just curious….and don’t give me that ‘he who is without sin cast the first stone’ bullshit. That is waaaaaaaaaaay overdone thankyouverymuch.

      Oh, Jaded One….
The bible does actually have TONS of info on the kind of punishment god supposedly thought people should mete out on each other, based on the specific crimes they committed. A lot of which not too many people think are crimes today, and nobody’s getting punished for them. Which is a shame, because god actually says more about that kind of stuff than he does about ‘forgiveness’ like everyone likes to babble about. Well, that’s according to the bible, anyway.
      __________

Brittany- Sorry…. can’t go for the nakedey she-god. I really wanted to like that movie, like other’s of Smith’s… but I just couldn’t. It was too contrived. And Alanis wasn’t believable as god, nekkid or not- too passive for my liking. I kind of like the god on the Sarah Silverman show. More realistic.

Let me know when you’re hitting Disneyland up. I haven’t been there since I was 7. Last time I checked on how much it’d cost for me and my boys I figured I probably won’t be back there before I’m 70. Jeex. You’d think Disneyland thought THEY were ‘heaven’, for how much it costs to go there.

    68. comment number 68 by: They Should Burn

This is disgusting. The facts are horrible enough without turning it into some tabloid bullshit article. This article states:

“Regardless of the many flaws of Travis Mullis, 27-year-old Caren Kohberger, who met DJ Roc on the Internet, decided that Travis Mullis would be the perfect guy to make a baby with. She decided this despite the fact that Travis Mullis was already the father of both a boy and a girl, yet had decided to sign away all his parental rights to those children.”

She did NOT know she could get pregnant, or she would have prevented it from happening. She did not want the baby. The only reason she kept him is because she thought it would help her hold onto TJ. I feel sorry for the poor girl whose link you used from myspace, claiming she is Caren. That’s NOT her, and anyone with half a brain can see that. If you are going to write an article, either for or against, get your damned facts straight. Yeah, I believe Caren had full knowledge of what happened, and may have played a huge role in the events leading up to her baby’s death. But at the same time, I know Caren, and I know how she is. As for all these sites that are posting speculation as fact, you know slander and libel are both valid lawsuits, right? Research your facts before you mix them with your delusional fantasies.

“Caren Kohberger identified Alijah Mullis from a photograph that police took at the scene, but even with her id, the baby was in such rough shape that a positive id had to be attempted first with footprints and then with DNA taken from Caren Kohberger.”

That’s also speculation. The reason the baby had to be identified through DNA is because they can’t go off of one person’s word that yes, it’s the same baby. They attempted to get the ID through footprints, but it was the HOPSITAL’S fault for that not working. they had smudged the footprints when Alijah was born. That’s the ONLY reason they had to get DNA. Caren had already identified the baby in the picture as Alijah James Mullis. May that poor baby rest in peace. You people are pathetically disgusting. You FEED off this shit. So I would say that not only do TJ and Caren deserve to burn in hell, but you should be there right along with them for making this something so much worse than it already was.

      Brittany Wood-

I hate to break it to you, but yes, there is actually such a thing as atheist.

You seem to not be very educated about the beliefs of people other than yourself. Atheist does not mean ‘Satan-worshipper’. Not worshipping a god does not by default mean that you worship Satan.

Atheist does not mean ‘anti-god’. In order to be ‘against’ a god, you have to first believe in a god in order to be against them.

Atheists believe there is no compelling evidence that there is any god to be ‘for or against’ to begin with. So, please get off your little rants that imply that people that YOU think are atheists are somehow in belief of god, but are just so spiteful that they refuse to worship them.

The only thing it shows is that you have absolutely no grasp of what anyone besides you believes in. I’m going to take a wild guess that you are equally as uneducated regarding Muslims, Buddhists, Mormons, 7th Day Adventists, Catholics, agnostics, ad nauseum. You have also shown yourself to be woefully ignorant regarding the religion and bible you claim to be espousing. You are obviously illiterate about anything xian.

I have been lucky enough to have met people from various religions who were intelligent enough to acknowlege the science of evolution. Somehow, they are able to not let that get in the way of their religious beliefs. They don’t go around babbling about ‘how did we get here, then?’.

They also don’t keep beating a dead horse when asked politely several times to stop doing so. Manners… they’re not for the the ‘rich’ people only. In fact, manners are one of those things in life that are great, because they are free. Doesn’t cost a thing. You should take them for a test drive.

For the record, I don’t recall anyone ‘protesting’ anything, except you and a few of your kind.

I honestly don’t know why you picked this blog to be your unfortunate target for your mindless, self-indulgent conversion attempts. Especially since you aren’t very good at it. Hint- keep your day job. Others have mentioned, and it’s true… that the way you talk is a turn-off, and could only be called successful if you consider reinforcing people’s conviction to whatever they believed before you chose to grace this site with your presence… ’successful’.

I’d imagine that if Jesus were alive today, he would tell you to cease and desist, as you are not winning conversions, you are winning adversaries. He’d be pissed at you for that.

It’s not surprising how quickly you chose to ignore the admin’s warnings to you. I guess respect isn’t one of your strong points.

I have an idea. Get up off your lazy ass, start your own religious blog. Allow people to comment, and then be condescending to them on YOUR blog. Using someone else’s blog to further your own agenda is both lazy and wussy.

      Well said, GloryBug!

I am indeed a real atheist. I see no compelling evidence for the existence of a higher being, and I do not believe in things without reason. I actually don’t think about it very often. I am too busy living.

My life somehow manages to be all right without a God in it. I have a job, I have several absorbing hobbies, I have a boyfriend, I have friends (including some very religious people), I sleep in late on Sundays. I am a reasonably good person and have three tenets of life: 1. Have as much fun as possible 2. Try to avoid hurting others 3. Whenever it is reasonably convenient try to avoid breaking civil law. I think that’s a pretty good way to go through life. I believe that when I die, my consciousness will simply burn out like an old light bulb and I will not know or feel or experience anything anymore. And I’m fine with that.
