Meloney Lee Jackson
Divorce is rarely easy, and for 40-year-old Meloney Lee Jackson, it looks like she thought murder would be easier.
It also appears that she had been planning to kill her husband, Kevin Mark Jackson, for at least a week.
According to a local gun dealer, Meloney Jackson walked into his store on the 28th of February, 2008, and tried really, really hard to buy a gun right then and there. Meloney Jackson claimed to the dealer that her husband had threatened to kill her, and that they were going to court to get a divorce next Tuesday and so she needed a gun.
Right now.
Her pleading didn’t work on someone who knew that he could lose his business license if he mishandled a firearm purchase, and after Meloney Jackson left the store the store owner went to the sheriff’s office and reported the incident.
But there are a lot of guns in the world.
There was, in fact, a gun that belonged to Meloney Jackson’s next-door neighbor, who was more than happy to lend her the weapon.
I don’t know about you, but if someone who is in the process of getting a divorce, or who is involved in any kind of emotional situation asked me to borrow my gun, I would have no problem giving them a hug, or listening to their problems for a while, or pointing them to the nearest psychiatrist. Borrowing a gun, however, is out of the question – so sorry, try the Jones across the street.
As you might have expected, with the gun in her possession, Meloney Jackson used it – at a little past five in the morning on the 3rd of March, 2008 – discharging the weapon in the direction of her husband, Kevin Jackson, five times.
Kevin Jackson made it out to their front lawn, where he died.
The crime scene didn’t make a lot of sense to police, who received a 911 call about the shooting at 5:12 in the morning.
Kevin Jackson was on the front lawn, dead from gunshot wounds delivered by a gun that was found next to his body.
Meloney Jackson reported to police that her husband had been threatening her for some time, and that on that morning, before he left for work, while his coffee and lunch were on the kitchen counter, Kevin Jackson had handcuffed her, gagged her and sexually assaulted her – all with the intention of killing her before their divorce proceedings that afternoon.
According to Meloney Jackson, miraculously her husband decided against killing her and had instead gone outside to the front lawn and shot himself to death.
Five times.
For those of you who aren’t regular gunshot victims, you should know that it’s very hard to keep shooting yourself after that first shot goes off. Bullets entering your body hurt. A lot. People who shoot themselves tend to drop the gun and die.
The police agreed with People You’ll See In Hell, arresting Meloney Jackson and booking her on suspicion of murder.
A recording of the 911 call that Meloney Jackson’s 13-year-old daughter, who was in the house at the time, made right after the shooting was released by authorities:
Operator: 911. What is your emergency?
Caller: My dad. I don’t know what’s wrong. I just woke up. .I heard gunshots. Now he doesn’t … My mom is crying. I don’t know what’s wrong.
Operator: OK, Ma’am. What’s your name?
Caller: Autumn.
Operator: Autumn, how old are you?
Caller: I’m 13.
Operator: OK, you said both your parents are in the front yard?
Caller: I don’t know what happened. My mom was talking to me last night about how she was scared. We’ve been hearing people. It’s usually quiet. But there’s been a bunch of stuff going through.
Operator: You said you did hear a gunshot?
Caller: Yes, I heard several.
Caller: My mom’s screaming for him.
Operator: What’s she doing?
Caller: Crying.
Operator: Autumn, what did you say again, sweetie?
Caller: My mom is still screaming. I don’t want my dad to be dead.
Police were impressed with Meloney Lee Jackson’s dedication for deception and especially with her ability to handcuff and gag herself.

As for said woman being worth a mention on this site, I beg to disagree. Since the Mary Winkler trial, which did a lot to bring my formerly high opinion of the American justice system down, I know for a fact that victim bashing goes a long way, when done by female killer spouses. In this instance, the female spouse from hell has already shown that she’s a worthy disciple of MW — last thing I’ve read about her on another board is that she now claims her victim used to masturbate, while sniffing at their daughter’s underwear.

Exactly, if your husband is sniffing your 13 year old’s underwear then why didn’t you say anything until now when he can’t speak for himself… I have a funny feeling that the daughter is going to end up coming out and saying that her mom is a nut case… I would NOT be surprised if the father was gonna fight for full custody either which could have led to a motive… no child= no money and Lord knows this woman looks jobless (unless shes working the track). I actually went to an estate sell at Meloney Jackson’s house today. Her 13 yr old daughter was there with her maternal grandparents. The daughter seems to be doing fine (as she can be…without either parent). I did want to reply to you and tell you YES, hubby that was killed did want custody of his daughter. It is my understanding that the only reason he moved back into the house after filing for divorce in ’07, was to protect his 13 yr old daughter—that HRS had given back to the wife. I don’t know what the daughter will say when she goes to court—-especially if she is living with the maternal grandparents, but I also heard that Meloney’s mother had tried to get her daughter help before the killing took place.

Dustin, I am sorry for the cards which you were dealt in life. That being said, your momma is a murderer, flat out. She needs to pay accordingly. There is no one to blame but her. So when you are looking at her in court, tomorrow, know that she made her choices. She, as an adult knew what the price would be for pulling that trigger.
She knew that killing him would cause trauma to you and your sister.
She knew she would be in prison and not be available for her children if she got caught.
She took those risks anyways….that could be considered selfish.
As a matter of fact, this is one of the few postings which I have NOT read until now. I do not take pleasure in hearing about kids losing their parents. Not in the least.
Believe it or not, most people on this site care about victims immensely. Many of us have been victims of crime. We care about your dad, you, and your sister. If you mistake talking about the crime for getting kicks off people’s misery, I am sorry.
Neither you, nor your sister should have had to deal with something like this so young.

I agree with poptart (as usual). What happened is terrible. I cant imagine what it must be like for your sister and yourself to lose your parents. And my heart goes out to you.
We are not here to try and cause you anymore pain than you are already going through. The purpose of this site is to show support for victims of crime, like your dad. Im afraid there is no sympathy for your mother though. She didnt just murder your dad. Her actions also hurt you.
