Why It Is A Bad Idea To Be In Jail In Orange County
The story as reported by the Los Angeles Times
From a correctional officer’s perspective, this is yet another reason why it is a bad idea to let officers and inmates establish a working relationship that is too close. The inmates and their behavior are never lifted “up.” The officers are always brought “down.”
Corruption starts at the top, as with any large organization. Then-sheriff Michael Corona was widely recognized as being more than a little corrupt, but nothing ever seemed to stick. It was a good thing that he was finally ousted.
Of course it is interesting to see how the newspaper tries to downplay the fact that John Chamberlain, the inmate who was beaten to death by other inmates, was in custody for charges of possession of child pornography. The newspaper seems a bit desperate to blame the guards for what happened, despite the fact that there wasn’t enough evidence against the guards to charge anyone with anything. As a matter of fact, all the guards are still employed as deputies.

Another pedo killed boohoo! THank you inmates for saving us money, and possibly a childs life! However, I watched a show last night where a guy was arrested for traffic violations, and placed in generel population with hard core criminals. He was forced to strip and was beaten severly. He sued and won, and his attacker was found not guilty by reason of insanity. Is it possible to be found guilty by reason of inssanity?
well, if you read from the first link, that he had been MISTAKENLY suspected of using child porn. we all learned how to READ in like kindergarten or first grade, let’s use that valuable knowledge when accusing someone… my goodness, i’m glad you weren’t on the jury bench, your illiteracy should outweigh your abilities. next time read all the information, and maybe you wouldn’t look like such a fool now. (and no it is not possible for someone to be found GUILTY by reason of insanity, usually they try to get that person treatment, not send them to jail… the jails would be overflowing with people who were just mentally-handicap… not to mention, it has happened before, you should check up on your research and find it) duh!?
The jails ARE overflowing with mentally handicapped and/or crazy people.
John Chamberlain had been arrested for possessing child pornography. The inmates mistakenly believed that he was a child molester.
Just to let you know – inmates will find out what you’re charged with. Depending on who you’re in with, pedophiles may or may not be threatened. The vast majority of inmates just want to do their time and get out.
So basically he just wasnt caught yet actually molesting a child.
letterfacts…
No, he had been mistakenly accused of molestation. He was in on suspicion of child porn. You are the illiterate one.
Thank you Ryan
Letterfacts is probably a molester, and that is why he was so quick to come to that guys defense.
I remember this. In fact I live in OC and my friends ex boyfriend was in OCJ at the time that this happened. Her ex even went to trial for participation in the murder of John Chamberlain. It’s kind nice to stumble across this having probably more knowledge of what happened then most people because of my connections. The guards had purposely told other inmates that John was a child molester while fully knowing that he wasn’t. I don’t remember why they had it in for the guy but they were trying to instigate a fight on John. Obviously they succeeded and that is why they did nothing more than yap on their cell phones and play solitaire on their computers. OCJ is probably one of the worst jails you could go to. I have heard way to many horror story’s about the corruption from people who paid a visit.
I too, live in OC, and had been in OC jail once for 2 weeks. It was horrible; a cell with 35 girls, no personal space….all the girls would make fun of the older ladies and shit like that. Plus, they had meth papers in there too, and would hide them from the guards when we had a “shakedown.” They would stay up all night and day, high on meth-laced papers. I got no sleep.
They were supposed to take me to the “farm” with all the “nice ” girls (first-time, non-violent nor drug-related misdemeanors like myself) but once they found out I had to be maintained on my Paxil, they put me in that ward with 10+ felons (in that 35+ cell) on their way to prison.
Looking back, i would have rather had been in protective custody, which in the OC jail’s case, is a cement bench in an air-conditioned room without blankets or a pillow, then what I went through with those loud-mouthed, meth-addicted “gangstas.”
UPDATE: I asked my friend, who’s ex-boyfriend was in OCJ at the time that this happened, if she remembered what it was that set off the guards to make them want the inmate to get beat up by the other inmates, and she said it was because John called one of the guards a “punk bitch”. Nothing more.
Another wonderful story of OCJ: I was in a ABC (DUI) class a year ago or so and another girl in the class said when she was in OCJ another woman was having a seizure so they pressed an emergency call button in the cell to get the guards. The guards dragged the woman out and tazed her for a good 5 minutes, because they thought that she was faking it, before they got her some swift inadequate medical attention then threw her back in the cell. The girl in my class sayed that if they knew what was going to happen they never would have called for help because she was better off on her own
