I don't see anyone judging you Gretchen. That said, I also don't see any reason why we can't pull your name from the story. You're an innocent bystander in all this and we don't want to cause you any more trouble than you're already having. I assure you that it wasn't the writer's intention to poke fun at you. He's my friend, and that just isn't his style.

Don't worry - I'll change your name on your comment too.

I would like to thank all of you for judging me so publicly. You have no idea how many issues this has caused me, including a custody battle. These little stories continue to haunt me in personal life, my job, and in my children's lives. I’m disappointed that you have taken something like this and drawn the attention off the horrible things that these women have gone through to poke fun at me. Those women are the true victims in this! Why create more of the same? You should be ashamed of yourself! Jason had a whole community fooled, not just one ex girlfriend!

Victoria,

I agree that no one "wants" to be raped, but the artistic license was meant to deliver a point. Margaret Atwood wrote a short story called Rape Fantasies, where several women shared romanticized fantasies of ravishings and rape, where Estelle focused on the comical rescues and escapes from rape as she avoided the sexual abuse. This short story, published in the late 70's, was actually a fairly good pulse for a change in sexual understandings and the revelation and prevention of actual rapes. A comedic offset to suggest that a small percentage of the population of women may not be opposed to rape isn't meant to diminish the horror or punishment of the crime, but to absurd the concept that people would want to be raped. the usage here is like yelling fire instead of rape, fire instead of "I'm being robbed," or fire, I'm being murdered. It puts the word and the concept into our working vocabulary and gives emphasis. That emphasis isn't done to be ignorant or stupid, it's meant to sharpen an already lethal word into a weapon of action and sometimes into advocacy.

Um. I would like to know why people keep saying "women living in the area, who do not like being raped..." or "99.99% of women do not like being raped." ??? Are you serious? OF COURSE we do not like it. Who in their God given right mind would LIKE being raped?? That's absolutely sick. Please don't sound so IGNORANT on the internet. Seriously...

i would like to know what kind of car he was driving in 1992? I was in clarksville on I24 when a young man in an older brown car (no plates) tried to run me off the road. He was "pleasing" himself at the time!!! I will never forget the look on his face, and Im convinced it was Robert Burdick!!!!!!!

I was driiving back from Nahsville in Jan of 92 after visiting a critically ill friend at Vanderbilt University when I encountered a man driving an old brown car with no license plate. He was in the left hand lane when we were in Claksville Tn. All of a sudden he was next to us playing with himself and trying to run us off the road! I know it was Robert Burdick!! After seeing your story tonight I was convinced it was him!! I could never forget his face!!!
