When we start punishing people very harshly for the violent crimes they commit ( drinking and driving is a violent crime- just look at how many people it kills)... It is very, very likely that less people will commit that crime. If we say, institute a mandatory 1 year jail sentance for a first time DUI offense, people will take the law more seriously and fewer people will drink and drive. Tack on 2 years per repeat offense... You see where I am going here? When someone wipes out an entire family, it is in no way excessive that they have to serve 43 years. I wish like hell that the drunk driver that killed my little brother would have gotten the time he deserved, instead of 14 years that he'll probably only serve half of. Oh my damn, Joey.
