Hey, do you remember Mark Goudeau, the serial killer who was found guilty of raping and killing those women in Maricopa County?
Well, it looks like Mark Goudeau and 38-year-old Trent Christopher Benson, pictured here to the left with a delicious cup of coffee in a decorative Warner Brothers mug, had something else in common other than the county that they lived in.
They both liked to kill and rape.
And really, who doesn’t? Come on, you know you want to live the life of a viking.
Trent Christopher Benson recently went into business with his brother Andrew, opening an ice cream, shaved ice and water store called “Water-N-Ice,” which is a decidedly non-viking-like occupation but obviously worked for him better than selling cars, which he did for some time.
A business neighbor of Trent Christopher Benson was Hgourtlande Yust, who works at Deli Gyros. According to Hgourtlande Yust (whose name I will take for my next child), Trent Benson moved into the business complex in the spring and became a fairly regular customer. According to Hgourtlande Yust:
I cook for him the hot dog. He like it very much.
It was love at first sight for Trent Benson, who constantly asked Ms. Yust out after enjoying her cooking. Trent Benson would ask Ms. Yust out over and over, and despite his love for her cooking, she turned him down every time. She thought he was a nice guy though:
I would never believe this man would do anything bad to a woman. He was always a very nice, polite man.
The last time Hgourtlande Yust saw Trent Christopher Benson was on the 10th of May, 2008, when she bought 5 gallons of water from his store. Trent offered to carry the water back to her store and, once the water was delivered, asked her to go to the casino with him.
It’s probably a good thing that she didn’t.
Trent Christopher Benson, who was raising a 7-year-old son alone, had kind of a double life that involved a history of arrests for sex-related crimes.
Way back in May of 1997, Phoenix police arrested and booked Trent Christoper Benson into jail on suspicion of soliciting a prostitute.
According to the police report that was filed, at 11 at night on the 7th of May, 1997, Trent Benson drove past an undercover cop standing outside a motel commonly patronized by prostitutes. Trent Benson doubled back, pulled over and began talking with the officer, who was nice enough to tape the conversation – which revealed that he wanted to hire her for a while.
After being arrested, Trent Benson did not admit that he was guilty of solicitation…but….
In 2001, Trent Benson pled guilty to public sexual indecency and loitering – which are charges that someone involved in prostitution would pick up. After pleading guilty, Trent Christopher Benson was sentenced to 10 days in jail, paid a $555 fine and was placed on probation for three years.
It’s entirely possible that Trent Benson waited three years to see a prostitute again. It would be weird, but not outside the realm of possibility that he decided to abide by the constraints of his probation for the time period specified by his judge.
He must have had a lot of pent-up feelings, however, when he killed 25-year-old prostitute Alisa Marie Beck, strangling her and leaving her half-naked body on the ground of an alley to be found during the 1st week of November in 2004. Alisa Beck’s death left her now 8-year-old son, Jordan, without a mother.
Police collected her assailant’s DNA.
On the 24th of October, 2007, 44-year-old prostitute Karen Jane Campbell was found, stripped naked and dead on the side of a road in the area, the victim of a violent attack.
Police also collected her assailant’s DNA. No suspect had come under the authorities’ microscope, but real police work isn’t an hour-long television show. Real police work can take years to piece together with detectives waiting for the next shred of evidence, the next slip-up by the perpetrator that leads ever closer to his eventual arrest.
Earlier that year, on the 16th of August, 2007, a 47-year-old Hispanic woman was walking near a busy intersection in broad daylight when a white, four-door sedan pulled alongside her.
After pulling up beside the woman, a man who was between 25 and 35 years old and about 5 feet 8 inches tall with short dark hair jumped out and struggled with the woman before pulling her into his car and driving off.
This is apparently a daily thing in Arizona, and nobody who was in the vicinity of the busy intersection bothered to say anything, or try to help this poor woman, or used their concealed weapon to shoot at her assailant.
Fortunately, this woman managed to flee after being stripped naked and raped by this guy. After calling a cab and dressing herself, she called the police once she got home. Police collected DNA from her assailant, too.
In Phoenix, on the 4th of November, 2007, a 35-year-old woman was abducted from behind a business and driven to a secluded area where she was beaten, raped and left for dead. She didn’t die, however and was found by someone walking through the area.
DNA was collected from that instance, too.
Piece by piece, detectives put together the puzzle. On the 5th of May, 2008, Mesa Arizona police announced that the two rape/murders and the one abduction/rape that happened in August were committed by one person, someone they wanted to talk to very, very badly.
Trent Christopher Benson was arrested on the 14th of May, 2008 after detectives followed him around for a day or so, looking for him to leave some DNA around that they could pick up.
Mr. Benson has been hit with nine charges so far, but could be given more charges later as police investigate his history. So far, he’s racked up two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of violent sexual assault, three counts of kidnapping and one count of sexual assault.
It is entirely possible that Trent Christopher Benson will end up as Mark Goudeau’s roommate.

This is very shocking to me, Know that Trent was not like this growing up. He was a wonderful friend and amazing athlete growing up. He has and had a kind heart. He was loyal to his friends. I do know he would never do anything to hurt his family or friends. I realize something snapped, but I am still having a hard time beliving he did any of this. admin – Fairly positive that it’s common practice for detectives to follow suspects into restaurants. After waiting until they finish eating, the detectives ask the restaurant owners for the utensils and plates and so on of their customer. Restaurant owners are usually very happy to comply. Since you’re “abandoning” your DNA, they’re not breaking any privacy laws.

I read about one case where the cops obtained DNA by sending the defendant a letter pretending he could participate in a class action lawsuit. He mailed them a reply and they took his DNA off the envelope flap he licked. The judge said it was legal.

This isn’t the only case obviously where the killer/rapist’s victims are predominantly prostitutes. I don’t understand if he targeted them because he thought that he would get away with it more easily or that nobody would care about them or if he had psychological issues (“pent up feelings”) relating to that time he was caught by the undercover cop. The fact that he could kill a mother so mercilessly and violently and go home to his own kid like nothing happened just completely disgusts me….regardless of what kind of issues he and his defense will claim he deserves death although that’s probably too good for him. As was mentioned before, It’s kind of pointless to be shocked and say “he could never have done this” or “I didn’t expect he was capable of this” because obviously if you had those kinds of suspicions at the time you would most likely have stayed the fuck away from such a person (one would hope) if not reported them the authorities.

Detectives got his dna from a cigarette butt thery found outside of his water&ice store.They had been watching him for a few days.The case went cold afetr 2004.They just recently got a tip from someone about him and prostitutes he tried to pick up.As people who knew trent and his brother,the detctives talked to a few of us last week to see what of if we know his brother.There have been alot of reports stating he had help.Victime said there were 2 men.I think they suspect his brother as a possible accomplice but,don’t have any proof at this point in time.Prosecutors are gonna seek the death penalty for trent.karebear9

I was also a friend of Trent’s back in the day. He was sweet and kind, just like the rest of his family. I have no idea what triggered this, but it’s really nearly unfathomable! I had such a hard time accepting that he could very well be a bad guy (I mean, according to the DNA evidence, he is!). I know there is that whole “innocent until proven guilty” thing… it’s not looking good, though.

I sold cars with Trent several years ago before I left that hellish business, this actually suprised me as I never pegged him for a rapist and murderer. I feel sorry for his victims and his family, especially his son who is a sweet kid. My thoughts on it. Trent needs to die for his crimes, thank God for the death penalty!

I worked with Trent at a Gym (he was a membership salesman) during the time he was out there mudering women. I cant fathom that on many occaisions he and I were the only 2 people in the building and he might have killed someone the night before. I am beyond stunned. He was always so respectful . My fatih in trusting people who seem so “normal” is blown. The “serial Shooters” were arrested in an apartment within a stones throw of my house. Has the world gone mad? My heart goes out to all those who grieve over this. Does anyone know who has Trents son? I know the mother wasnt in his life, is she now? I have known trent benson for 10 years. I have even went on a few dates with him. We both decided we were better as friends. He worked with my mom at superstion toyota and became part of our family. His son trevor is such a sweetheart. It is still to this day even with his admition that he did it. I know he was upset to not know who his reall mom was and that hurt him badly and then when his girlfriend the mother of his child went back to the indian reservation he put all his energy into his son. Maybe because of all this he just snaped and started hatting women. The last e-mail I got from trent he told me he thought of moving out of state to michigan or minnessotta to get away. Now I know really why? How sad for his boy. I hope trevor is o.k. His adoptive family dosen’t live here in u.s. It makes me sick to my stomach to think he did this. I haven’t got much sleep over it. He was a deer friend. I know people are writting and saying some horrible and hatered things and for the right reason but try to rember the one innocent victim in this and that is his boy.I wish he thought of him before doing such horrible acts. I myself was going to the jail house and look him in the eye and ask him if he really did it. So I know the truth.

Not sure who this Jacinda person is but I’m pretty sure Trent grew up in a great home his parents are the nicest people you will ever meet and I don’t think any of his family is going to defend what he did!!! He is disgusting and should burn in hell!!!
Does anyone know what tipped the police off to look for his DNA and has there been updates about an accomplice?
