33-year-old Angela Gordon is the woman in full Muslim regalia that you see over there to the left, helping herself to some food.
Angela Gordon is a Jamaican-born mother of 6 who really got into the whole Islam thing about two years ago. Angela apparently decided that since she was in England she might as well do what everyone else is doing and seriously convert to Islam. Angela Gordon went all the way with the Muslim thing, wearing the clothes, eating the food, saying the prayers. She was happy with her new religion.
Her kids…not so much.
Despite going to Grove School in Handsworth, a multicultural school with a large Muslim contingent, Angela Gordon’s kids, especially 7-year-old Khyra Ishaq, didn’t really like being made to wear Islamic garb - especially the head wear - to school every day. It’s not like you can blame them, really.
Parents noticed that Angela Gordon’s kids were having problems at the school and that their clothes were largely the reason why.
One of the parents who noticed the situation spoke to the press about it:
The children didn’t seem to like wearing the Muslim head wear. I think that’s why the children started having problems at the school - they weren’t happy being forced into the Muslim religion.
Well who is, when you get down to it?
Angela Gordon noticed that her children were being bullied in school and pulled them out, making arrangements to home-school her kids in the housing association home where she had lived on the government dole for more than 10 years.
Then Angela Gordon started to starve her kids.
Kind of out of the blue there, huh?
Yeah, Angela Gordon went through her government-issued home, cleared out all the government-issued food, threw the refrigerator out into the backyard and…well…that’s about it.
The children got hungrier and hungrier as the days rolled past. Neighbors reportedly saw Khyra Ishaq and Angela Gordon’s other children wandering through the neighborhood for scraps of food, picking up bread that was left for birds off other people’s yards and eating it.
Of course, nobody called the authorities or did anything about this. After all, it’s perfectly normal for kids to go around eating bird crumbs in the shadow of Big Ben. This is England. Children do weird things there.
Early on the morning of the 17th of May, 2008, emergency services were called to the home of Angela Gordon because Khyra Ishaq was having problems breathing.
Paramedics arrived at the home and saw all six of Angela Gordon’s children lying on mattresses on the floor. They were all very, very thin.
When paramedics asked Angela Gordon about Khyra Ishaq, who was limp and just about dead, Angela Gordon told the emergency personnel:
Get it out.
Then Angela Gordon turned her back on her dying daughter and left the room.
The children were immediately taken to the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham where they were treated for severe malnutrition.
Khyra Ishaq was treated for death. Because she was dead.
Angela Gordon and her boyfriend, 29-year-old Junaid Abuhamza, were arrested and charged with neglect. Because this is the English justice system we’re talking about, they will undoubtedly be given a kiss and a hug and sent on their way to create more children for England’s cradle-to-grave system to take care of.

Almost every single one of these stories hinges on exactly that premise.
The starvation thing? That’s just one side of the coin. How many people are overweight because they essentially are making up for the lack of love they had as a child?
Eating with my children, cooking food at home for my children is one of the biggest ways I’ve found to show them that I love them. Eating together. It’s one of the most basic things you can do together, and it works out pretty well until you start substituting food for love. Or in this and many other cases, substituting NOTHING for love.
