When you’re 18, you really have most of your whole life in front of you. The world is out there, waiting for you to make a difference.
If you put your best foot forward, you can go far. There’s a lot of opportunity out there for those of you with drive and ambition.
18-year-old Joshua James Cannon was arrested and convicted of sexually molesting a 5-year-old child a few years back, and since then he hasn’t exactly been putting his best foot forward.
Just after midnight on the morning of the 16th of May, 2008, Joshua Cannon found himself on the doorstep of a 63-year-old woman, a grandmother, who was home alone.
Joshua James Cannon knocked on her door. When she came to the door, Joshua Cannon told her that his truck had broken down and asked if he could use the phone.
Considering that this all took place in a small town in Texas, you know she felt obliged to do so.
Joshua Cannon finished up his phone call, told the woman “thanks” and left the same way he came in. People in that part of the world look out for their neighbors and help out whenever they can.
Sadly, people like Joshua Cannon, people who help themselves to whatever they can, also reside in that part of the world.
According to the woman, she was surprised to see Joshua James Cannon at the door again. She was especially surprised to see that Joshua had a rifle.
I never dreamed he had a gun. And when I seen the gun, well, I tried closing the door, but that’s when he shoved me down.
How nice.
After pushing his way into this grandmother’s home, Joshua James Cannon bashed her face in with the butt of his rifle, knocking her silly.
Joshua Cannon wanted money. He wanted a vehicle. He figured that this woman had both, he wanted it and he didn’t much care what he had to do to get it.
According to the woman Joshua Cannon continued to hit her while looking through her house:
He took my purse and just kept asking if I had an ATM card. I just asked him to take the purse and leave but he wouldn’t leave me. I begged and begged to stay here, but he wouldn’t let me.
When Joshua Cannon found what he wanted, the woman’s purse and the keys to her vehicle, he grabbed her and pulled her outside to the car.
Interestingly, according to the woman, Joshua kept mentioning that he was doing this because he was being initiated into a gang and that people were watching him. Maybe saying that people were making him do this made him feel better somehow, because the woman never saw anyone else in the area while this was going on.
Joshua James Cannon forced the woman into the car, telling her that if she tried to jump out, he would kill her. Considering their relationship so far, it’s not surprising that she believed him.
I just kept thinking of something to do, but I couldn’t. I just kept thinking ‘Oh God.’
After the two drove around for a while, and after passing the woman’s son’s house a few times Joshua Cannon stopped the car by a path into a wooded area less than two miles from her house.
Dragging her down the path, Joshua James Cannon led the woman to a 20-foot-deep concrete well. After looking down the well, Joshua Cannon gave the grandmother a proposal:
He said you got three choices: ‘I can either shoot you, strangle you or put you in this well.
She really didn’t have much of a chance to respond - any chance, really - because right after giving her those choices, Joshua Cannon made his choice and pushed her into the well.
After bouncing off the sides, the woman slammed into the water and there she sat.
I don’t remember how I fell, but I remember being scared and cold. I don’t know why he left but soon he was gone.
With his problem disposed of, Joshua Cannon left the scene in her car and went to pick up a 15-year-old girlfriend of his. They drove around a little bit until the cops pulled them over, found out that the car wasn’t theirs and impounded it. Then the cops called the woman’s cell phone to let her know that her car had been stolen.
Joshua and his little friend were released pending the investigation.
The woman’s daughter, in the meantime, went to her mother’s house and thought things were a bit odd. A chair had been knocked out of place, and her mother was…you know…not there. She left at that point, but returned later to find her mother was still gone and saw her mother’s cell phone sitting on a table.
Checking the cell phone, she found the message from the cops about her mother’s car being impounded and got really, really worried. She called the police to report a possible abduction and she called her family.
While this woman was fighting the cold, stress-induced shock and starting to see hallucinations, her family began a search for her in the area.
Fortunately, the woman’s family knew the area fairly well due to their frequent 4-wheeler excursions in the fields nearby. The well was checked and grandma was found.
The family called authorities to let them know where she was, but it took most of the day to get the woman out of the well. After putting a ladder down the well failed, a firefighter finally had to go down to get her. Alive, but hurting badly, the woman was treated for a broken nose, bruises and dehydration.
Joshua James Cannon was arrested that night on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and possession of a firearm by a felon. A few days later he was also charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault.

I’m with you on this one! Why is he being charge with aggravated sexual assault?!?
admin - I’m thinking that he sexually assaulted her either while they were at the house together or while they were riding together.
I’m actually hearing two stories, one where he’s been charged with regular aggravated assault and one where he’s being charged with aggravated sexual assault. We’ll figure it all out eventually. Until, then, our vacation is almost up.

I just don’t understand kids these days. sigh….my 18 year old son would never in a million years consider doing something this cruel to a grandmother. Hell, he doesn’t even talk back to his grandmothers. No home training, I’m tellin ya. I thank God for my good boys!!! Oh yeah, and I thank me too for bringing them up to be better people than this idiot. hahahhaha.

That poor woman is going to need some serious therapy. It’s amazing she was found alive — kudos to her family for being alert and reporting her missing quickly and searching for her and everything.
And of course Cannon deserves hell and then some.

Mr Cannon should also have to pay for her therapy and any other monetary losses caused by the crime.
But I am sure that there will be a defense lawyer who will try to say that this “boy” has a whole life in front of him that should not be spent in prison to which I agree - fry him or better yet - victim’s death - toss him into the well!

he was entitled to molest a five year old so he was entitled to whatever gramma had, including her life.
since he is just the ripe old age of 18, where is he headed? what’s next?
he needs to stay in jail until he needs depends.
