    President Yahya Jammeh

    President Yahya JammehThis flamboyantly dressed guy making his “coy boy” look is 43-year-old Yahya Jammeh.

    Yahya Jammeh happens to be the President of the Gambia – the first and last British colony in West Africa. Yahya Jammeh was behind a military coup that happened in 1994, took control and was elected again in 1996, 2001 and 2006. Helping his election numbers was the fact that he stated a number of times that:

    I will develop the areas that vote for me, but if you don’t vote for me, don’t expect anything.

    Nice one, Mr. President! Way to uphold those democratic principles!

    Yes, President Yahya Jammeh says all sorts of funny things. In fact, just the other day, on the 15th of May, 2008, President Yahya Jammeh held a political rally where he gave an ultimatum to Gambia’s homosexual population.

    President JammehYahya Jammeh, who likes to be seen as a devout Muslim and who does not like to be seen prancing about in silly hats like a San Franciscan boy toy, announced that homosexuals had 24 hours to leave the Gambia or they would be arrested and decapitated.

    Now that’s pretty harsh.

    President Yahya Jammeh also warned people who hang out with and who house homosexuals to kick them out of their compounds. President Jammeh, while gently stroking a Pomeranian named “Poo-poo,” announced that a mass patrol of armed men would be wandering around his country looking for homosexuals and bringing the worst of them directly to him to take care of.

    Personally.

    Any hotel, lodge or motel that lodges this kind of individuals will be closed down, because this act is unlawful. We are in a Muslim dominated country and I will not and shall never accept such individuals in this country.

    President Yahya Jammeh informed his country’s homosexual population that there was a law dealing with homosexual activity in place that was tougher than the laws on homosexuality in Iran and, while patting his hair and blinking wildly at his audience, warned homosexuals to stop doing gay things to each other.

    As you can imagine, the homosexual holocaust idea proposed by the head of state of the Gambia was not well-received in the parts of the international community that are not militantly Muslim.

    Carey Alan Johnson, the Senior Africa specialist of the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission was not pleased by President Yahya Jammeh’s comments. Carey Johnson went so far as to say that the comments were “disgraceful”.

    What President Jammeh fails to realize is that there are a significant population of Gambians who are gay, and he has no right to ask them to leave.

    While People You’ll See In Hell respects all religions equally, we have to wonder about one thing: How gay would you consider a religion that pretty much hates the fact that women exist, covers the women it does have from head to toe, keeps them from going anywhere by themselves and beheads them for displaying even the tiniest hint of sexiness?

    The Gambian homosexual holocaust proposal by President Jammeh follows an interesting announcement made in January of 2007 by Yahya that he had developed a “miracle cure” for both HIV and AIDS.

    The miracle cure was applied to hundreds of hot, gay young men and women by President Jammeh personally, who rubbed a herbal paste all over their muscular torsos and then gave them a bitter yellow drink to swallow. Then they had to eat two bananas, probably through a glory hole.

    The therapy is repeatedly administered over several weeks, and according to President Jammeh, people diagnosed with AIDS are cured by the treatment within three to 30 days.

    Scientists were unamused by President Yahya Jammeh’s antics. Fadzai Gwaradzimba, who was the country representative of the United Nations Development Programm in The Gambia, was told to leave the country after she expressed doubts about the claims and said the remedy might encourage risky behavior.

    According to President Jammeh:

    Whatever you do there are bound to be skeptics, but I can tell you my method is foolproof. Mine is not an argument, mine is a proof. It is a declaration. I can cure AIDS and I will. The treatment uses seven plants, three of which are not from Gambia.

    President Yahya Jammeh’s website, which is damn good reading, has a more recent announcement about the herbal AIDS cure:

    His Excellency President Yahya Jammeh’s effective herbal treatment has yet again been manifested in the recent discharge of four HIV/AIDS patients of the 3rd and 4th batch. The President has announces that the period for the treatment of HIV 2 patients have now been reduced to 2 weeks instead of two to three months to allow others to have a first chance.

    Yay!

    Not surprisingly, the media outlets in Gambia, which are all heavily controlled by the government, give rave reviews about Jammeh’s AIDS cure and heavily publicize the cure, which President Jammeh provides his citizens for free.

    President Yahya Jammeh gets such support from the local media because the local media that doesn’t support him end up with a bad case of death.

    A law passed in the Gambia in 2002 created a commission with the power to issue media and journalism licenses and to imprison journalists who didn’t follow the government guidelines for “responsible reporting.” In 2004, another law tacked onto the first one allowed the government to sentence people to prison for libel and slander. The same law also incidentally canceled all the existing print and broadcasting licenses, forcing the media groups who already had licenses to re-register and pay five times what the licenses had cost previously in order to maintain operations.

    In April of 2004, President Jammeh told journalists to obey his government “or go to hell.” In June of 2005, President Jammeh stated on government-controlled radio and television that he “has allowed too much expression” in his country.

    Newspaper editor Deyda Hydara was shot to death, in an incident that was never really explained satisfactorily, days after the 2004 legislation took effect.

    As you can imagine, Reporters Without Borders is not happy with the President of the Gambia. The organization has, in fact, accused “President Yahya Jammeh’s police state” of using murder, arson, unlawful arrest and death threats against journalists.

    And Spain is not happy with President Jammeh, after two Spanish men were arrested in the Gambia after being accused of making homosexual advances to taxi drivers.

    President Jammeh will not be arrested or charged with anything. He will continue looking fabulous and making really interesting statements.

    Does President Yahya Jammeh deserve Hell?

          Tracy- Well if they dont like the laws of goverment, they have three choices, take it, move, or fight back. Being homosexual can not be compared to jews. Being gay in my opinion is a choice. I have several homosexual friends, both male and female, none of them have ever thought they were born that way. I just think that people should have the right to create their own society the way they want it. And that goes for both sides.

Myself, my brother and numerous mos that I know have struggled desperately for years to be straight. Guess what? Didn’t happen. Why would anybody choose to be an outcast in their own society? West Virginia (where I live now), and most of my own family, isn’t too accepting of this type of behavior. So tell me why I, or anyone, would chose to lose friends, receive awkward stares, be a ‘disappointment’ to people they love, and the brunt of ridicule everyday. The only choices homosexuals have in that area is if they are going to accept who they are or not. To choose if they can accept narrow minded constantly giving shit for no other reason than they plain just don’t understand or have been told not to accept it. Goodness!             Being Polish, I am somewhat aware of discrimination. It does piss me off when after having an intelligent conversation, when people learn my last name, suddenly 10 points have been knocked off my IQ!

            There are a lot of decent gay people, but as in any group there will always be assholes. But the bigger problem with many gays is the fact that they just cannot accept the fact that they are assholes.
            The first group is those who I may not even know are gay, they aer simply assholes.
            Then there are those who are GAY – those who tell me that I should try it before I deny it.
            All things male, all things not human, just do not turn me on that way. Add to that list grossly obese, way too old and way too young and yes my sex drive is selective, but is that not what nature is?

      Being bisexual myself I can assure you its most definitely not a choice. Its just a way you are. Just like your skin colour or where you are born, you don’t really get a choice about it.

      People however also committed horrible crimes for religion (Even more deaths, even more gruesome tortures, to be honest all the religious wars and the horrible tortures perpetrated in its name make Nazism look pleasant and fluffy by comparison.) Yet religion is not discarded.

      Regretable. The human race would be so much better off if governed by reason, logic, science and humanistic compassion. Rather then magical fairytales about a capricious skyman who supposedly loves you yet will not hesitate to fuck you up for all eternity if you don’t dance exactly to his tune.

        In the 20th century (1901 – 2000) how many people were killed off by people who wanted to eliminate religion? About 190 million! Hitler, Stalin, Lenin etc… all had ideas on how to create a Utopia, all “reasonable people” if you were holding the trigger.

        My point is that more have been killed trying to create a Utopia without religion in the last century than in the name of Christianity over the last 2,000 years.

        And let’s not forget about those Romans who did not like Christians!

          Hitler wasn’t trying to create a world without religion. Contrary to popular belief, he wasn’t an atheist or anything. Stalin basically tried to turn Communism into a religion. Both of them were really only against religion to the extent that it interfered with their dictatorships. (The Jewish thing was racial, not religious; the Nuremberg laws said anyone with one Jewish grandparent was Jewish, even if they didn’t practice Judaism at all, even if they’d been raised Christian.)

          If I were a dictator I think I’d either religion and make it work for me, or try to suppress it, because if people are following the church they might not necessarily follow the state.

      Weighing into the “choice” debate: I am not heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual. I’m asexual. I do not like sex of any kind with anybody. I can fall in love, and have romantic relationships, but I pretty much can’t have sex. The act is repulsive to me. Asexuals are pretty rare.

      I certainly didn’t choose to be this way. I think if there was some kind of drug I could take that would make me like sex, I would. My asexuality makes my romantic relationships unbelievably difficult as you can imagine. It’s a pain in the neck. And it wasn’t any choice on my part. It’s just the way I am and have always been.

          Yes, I’ve had sex. I was sexually active in one or another from 16 to 20. It took me awhile to realize I hated it. I was very glad to stop finally (two years ago), but my boyfriend was devastated.

          I don’t regard my asexuality as a problem except as far as relationships are concerned. I don’t miss sex. I don’t want to have sex. It’s just that I’ll probably never be able to have children, and probably never be able to marry. I’m still with my boyfriend, but our relationship is rocky and a lot of it’s over the fact that we can’t do anything physical.

      In regards to your comment on Islam and it’s hate for women, the forcing of the woman to cover are out of context. It is not Islam that causes the problems for women but it is how the Qur’an and Surahs that have been interpreted as a weapon of suffacation against its own society. Patriarchal, misygonestic, dictatorships have used Islam as a extremely voilent tool against women and the uneducated.

      Historically it was Islam that allowed women to flourish. The first convert to Islam, after the Phrohpet Muhammad, was his wife Khadaji that was the first convert, who was a successful merchant that supported her husband, financially, emotionally and spirtually.
      If it were not for her encouragement, the Prophent would have feared what the Angel Gabriel spoke to him, it was his wife, a woman that empowered him.

      In terms of covering it was down when the Prophet was flushed that one of his wives was engaging in a prolong converstation with a male from the wedding. It was the Angel Gabriel who told the Prohpet that he should ask his wives to cover in a scarf to show their distinction as the wives of the Prophet, but even I agree what some people’s sense of piety is extreme.

      The choice to cover is now done by Muslim women that want to show their form of piety and understand why they are doing it, if they are simply forced to cover because of religious law than it is nothing more than a farce.

      Please make sure that you understand what you state before making a passing comment, epsecially when we currently reside in a cultural insensitive soceity.

        I took Islamic History in college and the professor said Muhammed’s wives began covering to get some privacy, since he was such a celebrity and there were always strangers at the house, and then other women copied them.

        The course also said Muhammed’s wife Aisha lead an army against one of his successors after his death. She got her ass kicked, but it always amused me that a Muslim woman raised an army and rode on the front lines of battle against a man. When these days so many Muslim women aren’t allowed to do anything.

      I am muslim and I believe in islam. We hold women in very high respect. In fact, it is partly our mother’s choice if we can go into heaven. If she says no than no matter what we did it won’t matter because we will never go to heaven. I mean muslims don’t like it when you mock there religon because we hold our religon in the highest respect. We would never mock our religon in any way and we don’t like it if you mock ours. You can mock each others religons if you want since its a choice but please leave Islam out of it. It’s not fair but we don’t care. You can question what it says but don’t mock it. If you don’t know something just ask. There are many people that will inform you. Plus covering yourself is actually a personal decision and my mom doesn’t cover up but I love her and hold her in more respect than some women that do. It how you act not what you wear. I know some countries force you but thats because its for your own good. Back when it was started it was made to stop rapings because it is hard to undo and it doesn’t help you to rape if you don’t know how the victim looks. I don’t believe that kicking homosexuals was right at all and it is not his business or job to punish them because that is what god will eventually do. That is what I believe. Please ask me quesions or tell me your opinions on this because I am curious. I believe eveyone has an opinion and they should be able to express it but there is a limit to everything.

        Umit, I am an American. Among us are Muslims, Jews, Christians, Sikh’s Buddhists. Atheists, Agnostics and more. It’s the rights given to me by my creator God, that let me say I do not believe in the tenets of your religion. They let me say that my beliefs hold that from a fair reading of the Koran, that the Prophet Mohammed was a child rapist who kidnapped and raped Aisha, his best friend’s young daughter, and made her his wife, before her menstrual cycle had begin. This one “section” closed my heart to Islam forever, and criticism or no, I can respect people who believe in Islam, but will never be a convert.

        This is not me mocking Islam, but it is me criticizing it, and my criticism is harsh. I do honestly attempt to convert people from the more radicalized beliefs of Islam, just as people have tried to convert me to Islam or something called the Watchtower Society–and in most cases all sides have failed. I believe the religion of Islam was founded in war, banditry and the use of force to convert men and women to a faith that has struggled for the last few centuries to maintain a system that places 1/2 of their available workforce and problem solvers in bondage–it hurts women and the men who enforce their institutionalized sexual slavery. It’s useful to note that it is only the countries with significant outside contact with non-muslim countries that disregard the forced wearing of the Hijab, including the Jilbab and Khumur. While I agree that this is mildly hypocritical, in that I do believe women and men should wear top and lower coverings at most times, I find the Islamic clothing requirements to be restrictive and motivated more from the women as property concepts of the Bedouin and Persians than a significant religious expression, or requirement for personal safety.

        These are some of my beliefs. If you choose to violently oppose my beliefs, my Government protects my right to defend myself as well as provides a system of laws to protect me from force conversion or the militant expression of yours and any others ideals. I’ll defend your right, to free speech, but I will not defend your arguments when they’re false, your beliefs when they’re rooted in traditions you do not know, or respect you simply because you believe that respect is your due. I will respect you as a human being, endowed by your creator to the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness right up until they break a law or threaten someone else unduly.

        I hope you and I both can live with that.

      A woman’s dress is never stated in the Koran. But it comes up in Islam? Islam is bassed on what?

      If woman are held in such a high regard in the Islamic religion what then are “honor” killings?

      Please remember that I have read the Koran twice and I will be reading it again. I have been to and worked in many Islamic countries. I have talked to many people there and always felt welcome. But I felt misunderstood many times when I asked those questions. I know the answers to my questions. But most muslims don’t.

      I have tried to learn about Arabic cultures and the religions practiced.

I am not asking you to convert as god once told the prophet “Some may not listen or believe you so don’t be upset, those will get their punishment by me just help those who want to be helped” not very well translated by me. Islam was founded in a bad time where murder, rape and other such things were high. In fact, arabics back then would bury their daughters alive if they already had a son. Islam itslef means peace because it was made in such a time and was made for peace and to help others. There was no force used by the prophet. I am not going to say it wasn’t used by muslims but those people will get their punishment from god for what they did was not right. You may follow your path Jason and I will follow mine. I will not oppose you belief since I believe everyone chooses their path and they have every right to follow it as it pleases. You may say what you want, in any way you want and I nor any other human being has the right to stop you. I will respect the way you live as I would respect any other good-hearted humans.

        I can’t read Arabic, so I used an “authorized” Arabic translation of the Koran, but the word pig ????? seems to be in three of the four explicitly.

They have memorized the koran by heart and people not of the muslim religon don’t know more about it since you looked it up in the koran while I was speaking off what I know and what my parents taught me.         We are all headed “towards hell,” since it’s a place that hasn’t been made yet, but there’s a path to redemption. It’s a play on words. Umit, I read the Koran when I was younger than you, I had finished the Bible and a translation of the Torah, a few years before that. I’ve read the book of Mormon and a host of other holy texts and the core of belief is that while there were great men, prophets and more, it was the men who would enslave another man who printed the pages, set the type and delivered the copy to your door.

        You’re 15, the Koran is important to you because other people have told you the Koran is the holiest book. You don’t know it, because you’ve never read it. When you finish the Koran for the first time, I hope it brings you closer to God, but I also hope you think about and understand the words I wrote here. When I was 15, I thought I knew a little bit about everything. At more than twice that, I know that I am destined to learn at least one more thing before I die, every second I continue to breath, and that the vastness I have delved is a fraction of what God wants every man, woman and child to know before he meets them. The Koran was a fraction of that knowledge so small that it would be a drop in the ocean.

Well, that is true, but they are in minuscule amounts, and excuse me, but when was the last time you ate a banana SKIN?         President Jammeh is one of the worst dictators Africa has ever seen. He also is a cheap conman and a violent homophobe. This has all been documented by impartial human rights organizations like Amnesty International.

        Chances are he is also a closet homosexual, which would explain his over-the-top violent reaction to other gays in Gambia, but that’s pure speculation on my part.

        What I’d like to know is why you would defend such an obvious monster. Did you just get here from Gambia and you haven’t had time to find all the many sources of information available here in the states. It took me less that 5 minutes to find all the reliable data I needed to tear your comment to shreds, so I can’t imagine why you would even make it.

        I don’t hate people I think believe in a god. Why should I? Hate is too strong a word, and it implies that I am fearful of people who believe in a god. What a strange idea. Many people who believe in a god are good people. Some are bad. Oddly, people who believe in a god are rather normal for the most part. ;)

        I feel sorry for, and am annoyed by, anyone who puts their faith in a god to the exclusion of all else. Logic and reason have to come into play somewhere. I am repulsed by the inherent hypocrisy in the average preachers shpiel, especially if that preacher claims political power. If there is a god and he wants me, I doubt he’ll use someone so foolish as a mouthpiece. I’m quite comfortable in my faith in logic and reason.

        Neither of these two ideas belong in the same sentence. The first idea should be addressed with the about page. The second should be addressed with the definition of science.

        I think that one fits the bill the best. A supposedly Muslim medicine man claims 7 plants mixed into a paste and smeared on the skin and drunk with urine is supposed to cure AIDS versus doctors who suggest that Lectins, if they can properly be delivered can also inhibit HIV the virus that causes AIDS. Let’s break this up shall we?

        I actually find a reasonable amount of tolerance here. I doubt you can find a passage in the Koran I and others here are not at least familiar with, and other religious texts are readily read as well. God is not the central focus of this website, but nor is it a topic that can’t be discussed at length so long as the preachy parts are excised and the offensive crap is cut. Funny thing, most religious folk know that false accusations carry a fairly steep penalty, I wonder what yours will be?
