Wow.....it's a modern day version of Caligula or Nero. The fact that this kind of terroristic dictatorship still can exist and flourish in this modern age is simply terrible! I feel terrible for all of the citizens that have to live under the threat and whims of this man!

None of you here are fit to send people to hell or get anyone out, scientific studies have now proven that bananas contain in the skin something that is as powerful as two aids drugs.

Neither of these two ideas belong in the same sentence. The first idea should be addressed with the about page. The second should be addressed with the definition of science.

"knowledge, as of facts or principles; knowledge gained by systematic study."

I think that one fits the bill the best. A supposedly Muslim medicine man claims 7 plants mixed into a paste and smeared on the skin and drunk with urine is supposed to cure AIDS versus doctors who suggest that Lectins, if they can properly be delivered can also inhibit HIV the virus that causes AIDS. Let's break this up shall we?

Lectins bind to sugar receptors, help to inhibit and/or help the breakdown of glycoproteins and are some of the more fascinating structures in chemistry. Why are these Banana Lectins so cool? Because they're so similar to the Lectins that let the HIV virus into the cells they use to reproduce, that they act as a false lock for the virus to break off one of its many keys in.

How does the body accept or ingest Lectins? We absorb them through the walls of our intestines, where they are usually bound to the sugar receptor laden epithelial cells of the intestines and colon and are sloughed off as a mucous like substance compressed and shunted off in waste. Ingestion of Lectins is actually a bad entry vector since our omnivorous history has taught over a score of feet worth of intestine that Lectins should be discarded. Ruminants are one better in this area, it's how plants adapted to have their germination aided through the digestive process of some of the animals that ate the parent fruit but were unable to fully digest the lectin heavy seed coat. To make a medicine or Lectins that can pass the blood brain barrier, enter into the finicky testes and ovaries and spread across the body to keep the Virus from hiding, drug manufacturers have to use delivery mechanisms, usually in the form of injectable drugs and time released capsules. Jammeh is a joke if he thinks some paste or even his serum is going to reach the voracious HIV virus and do any good without a little more help from science. Wait a second, Jammeh is a joke.

You all are fools and he has been proven right, only people who are familiar with disgusting nasty practices could write what you all wrote, you aren’t even intelligent enough to prove him wrong with science before you denounce his treatment which he gives for free.

Given my rebuttal above, I think I can safely say this point has been dealt with. I await your concession.

You hate humanity and it shows. President Jammeh on the other hand may possibly save millions and expose the drug companies who will no longer be able to profit from the death and suffering.

Whose calling for death threats against an entire people? Jammeh!

You hate anybody who you think believes in a God, well, good luck with that.

I actually find a reasonable amount of tolerance here. I doubt you can find a passage in the Koran I and others here are not at least familiar with, and other religious texts are readily read as well. God is not the central focus of this website, but nor is it a topic that can't be discussed at length so long as the preachy parts are excised and the offensive crap is cut. Funny thing, most religious folk know that false accusations carry a fairly steep penalty, I wonder what yours will be?

He also knew that by showing the banana that people would quickly figure it out if they were willing to try to prove him wrong. But i guess you God hating, science loving people dont[SIC] care about the scientific method if something comes from a guy holding a holy book.

It's the murderous dictator holding the banana, holy book, and assault rifle that actually dings the radar here. Why are you so supportive of Jammeh? Is he a member of your tribal or political faction? Is your internet service paid for by him? Are your family members raised up by his actions?

You question our motives as Science loving, and trust me, you have me pegged, I do have a love for Science, but why do you love Jammeh?

I don't hate people I think believe in a god. Why should I? Hate is too strong a word, and it implies that I am fearful of people who believe in a god. What a strange idea. Many people who believe in a god are good people. Some are bad. Oddly, people who believe in a god are rather normal for the most part. ;)

I feel sorry for, and am annoyed by, anyone who puts their faith in a god to the exclusion of all else. Logic and reason have to come into play somewhere. I am repulsed by the inherent hypocrisy in the average preachers shpiel, especially if that preacher claims political power. If there is a god and he wants me, I doubt he'll use someone so foolish as a mouthpiece. I'm quite comfortable in my faith in logic and reason.

Jammeh is a joke and a disgusting sicko. I am appalled anyone thinks he's a good man. You're dirty. Go take a shower.

We agree Daniella, none of us are fit to send anyone to hell, that's why none of us actually believe the PYSIH poll is a vote to send anyone to biblical hell. By voting for hell we can express our anger and disgust at whatever scumbag we happen to be discussing at the moment. That's called transference.

As for President Jammeh, I'd first like to comment on his overall competency as president, or should I say, dictator. The guy is just another ego-maniacal madman cast from the same mold as Mugabi and Amin. But don't believe me, here's what Amnesty International had to say about him:

In November 2008 Amnesty International released the report Gambia: Fear Rules (AFR 27/003/2008). The report illustrates how human rights violations in Gambia are perpetrated by the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), army and police against real and perceived opponents of the government on a routine basis. It demonstrates that once people are in the custody of the government, they are susceptible to a whole range of human rights violations including unlawful detention, torture while in detention, unfair trials, enforced disappearance and extrajudicial executions..... including repression of the media.

As for your claim that "bananas contain in the skin something that is as powerful as two aids drugs". Well, that is true, but they are in minuscule amounts, and excuse me, but when was the last time you ate a banana SKIN? Shame on you for telling such a blatant half truth and using that as the foundation of your entire argument.

President Jammeh is one of the worst dictators Africa has ever seen. He also is a cheap conman and a violent homophobe. This has all been documented by impartial human rights organizations like Amnesty International.

Chances are he is also a closet homosexual, which would explain his over-the-top violent reaction to other gays in Gambia, but that's pure speculation on my part.

What I'd like to know is why you would defend such an obvious monster. Did you just get here from Gambia and you haven't had time to find all the many sources of information available here in the states. It took me less that 5 minutes to find all the reliable data I needed to tear your comment to shreds, so I can't imagine why you would even make it.

We are all headed "towards hell," since it's a place that hasn't been made yet, but there's a path to redemption. It's a play on words. Umit, I read the Koran when I was younger than you, I had finished the Bible and a translation of the Torah, a few years before that. I've read the book of Mormon and a host of other holy texts and the core of belief is that while there were great men, prophets and more, it was the men who would enslave another man who printed the pages, set the type and delivered the copy to your door.

You're 15, the Koran is important to you because other people have told you the Koran is the holiest book. You don't know it, because you've never read it. When you finish the Koran for the first time, I hope it brings you closer to God, but I also hope you think about and understand the words I wrote here. When I was 15, I thought I knew a little bit about everything. At more than twice that, I know that I am destined to learn at least one more thing before I die, every second I continue to breath, and that the vastness I have delved is a fraction of what God wants every man, woman and child to know before he meets them. The Koran was a fraction of that knowledge so small that it would be a drop in the ocean.

I hope when you recognize the references, you chuckle wryly to yourself.

Turkey is pretty good in most parts lol though the beggars are annoying but its better than hobos since if you give them money they won't spend it on drugs lol. I one day want to end poverty and hunger because I think its stupid that hear I am with a lot of food and a house when there is a guy freezing and starving to death in a different country. I get really angry when I see people poor.
