This used to be Sergio Casian Aguiar.
Sergio Aguiar used to be a 27-year-old employee of a 24-hour grocery store called FoodMaxx. According to his co-workers, Sergio was a good employee who worked hard.
Sergio Aguiar is dead now.
He died about thirty minutes too late.
Late on the night of the 14th of June, 2008, on a dark street, a man named Dan Robinson was driving home with his girlfriend, Deborah McKain, and his two grown children when the headlights of the vehicle he was in shined on a man standing behind a parked, gold, 2002 Toyota pickup who looked like he was kicking something. Deborah McKain thought that the guy was kicking some trash or garbage or something and was going to keep going until Dan Robinson told her to stop and back up. Something looked “weird” about the guy, who Dan Robinson said at first looked like a hunter with a dead animal.
The “hunter” was Sergio Casian Aguiar and Dan was right – he wasn’t kicking a dead animal. Sergio Aguilar was kicking a baby – his 2-year-old son, Sergio.
According to Deborah McKain and Dan Robinson, Sergio Aguiar wasn’t holding anything back. The child was limp, with his clothes coming off, looking like a “rag doll.”
This is not a scene one expects to come across on one’s way home from dinner.
Dan Robinson got out of his truck and flashed his badge at Sergio Aguiar, telling him to stop stomping on the baby. Aguiar’s response?
It’s just trash. Look how they make toys now.
Sergio Aguiar made some noise about how he had to get the demons out of the boy and pushed people away while he kept up his assault.
According to Deborah McKain, there were more than a few people there at that point, watching Sergio Aguilar kick and stomp on his son “at least 100 times.”
Nobody seriously tried to stop him, however, which seriously irritates us here at People You’ll See In Hell.
Update – It appears that Robinson tried to stop the attack, trying to pull the madman away from the baby, but was repeatedly thrown to the ground by Sergio Aguiar.
Deborah McKain stated that people were hesitant to get involved because Sergio Aguiar appeared to be dangerous. It was discussed that the crazy guy stomping on the baby might have something in his pocket. Everyone agreed that the baby was gone anyways, so why stop the guy? It was decided that everyone would just wait for the cops to arrive and handle things.
In the meantime, Sergio Aguiar was asking Dan Robinson for a knife and grabbing for a pen in Dan’s shirt pocket while helping the volunteer fire chief find the hazard lights in his truck – which incidentally happened to have blood in the cab.
Once the hazard lights to his truck were turned on, Sergio went back to his baby-stomping.
Dedicated guy. Focused.
The first 911 call came in at 10:13.
At 10:19, a sheriff’s helicopter arrived, shining a spotlight on the area and revealing the grisly scene. When the pilot, 39-year-old Deputy Rob Latapie, saw Aguiar kicking the child “like a soccer ball,” he immediately made the decision to land in a cow pasture adjacent to the road.
Officer Jerry Ramar, the flight tactical officer, jumped from the helicopter and ran about 20 yards to the scene with his weapon out before being stopped by a set of barbed-wire and electric fences. From the fence, Officer Ramar commanded Sergio Aguiar to stop kicking the baby and to step away.
Sergio Aguiar, predictably, raised his middle finger, flipping off the cop. Then he turned and kicked his baby for the last time.
Officer Ramar fired a single shot which hit Sergio Aguiar in the forehead and killed the man instantly.
Officers tried to revive the boy, but little Sergio was dead.
Sergio Aguiar had recently separated from his wife, his son’s mother, Frances Liliana Casian. The boy, who had been named after his father, was born on the 8th of May 2006.
According to Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson:
We may never know why the suspect beat that child to death. We hope to find out, but it’s going to take a lot more work.
This event didn’t start at Bradbury Road. The blood and other evidence leads us to believe the suspect may have ended up there, but the crime really started someplace else. That child probably suffered fatal injuries before the motorists arrived on the scene.
Because Sergio had beaten his son beyond any hope of visual recognition, DNA tests would have to be used to positively identify the child.
Deputy Royjindar Singh, a spokesman for the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, told the press why people were just kind of hanging out and watching this guy beat his child to death:
It was the shock of seeing what was going on, seeing this person with hands bloodied. At first they weren’t sure how to react. You walk upon that scene and you see it and it’s like, ‘What are you doing?’ It’s like, “What the heck are you doing?’

Unfortunately, not all Christians are of the nice, homogenized variety most commonly seen in the United States. Particularly in lesser-developed countries, normal, everyday folk really do believe in antiquated notions like demonic possession. While it’s just as sick, shocking, and horrifying, I can honestly buy the fact that Sergio Sr. may have believed his child to be inhabited by demons.
Obviously not an excuse for murder, but I think it’s important for people to realize that most all religions have very bloody roots.

Yes, we realize that some people tried to help. We understand that Sergio Aguilar was holding onto the baby while people were trying to stop him.
Combat is funny sometimes, and unless you’re actually in the situation, you might not do what you think you’d do while you’re thinking about it sitting at your desk. I know of correctional officers who, when faced with a fight situation, just stood at the door to a housing unit and didn’t help.
Still, it’s frustrating. 50 years ago, even 30 years ago, people wouldn’t hesitate to all jump in on the guy and drag him down.
All I can say is that if I was faced with that kind of situation, either the guy who is doing the evil is going down or I am. I could never just sit there and watch for 7 minutes while this is going on.
How hard did these bystanders try to help stop the slaughter of this innocent little baby? As a mother and grandmother, my instinct would have been to do ANYTHING to stop this monster. How much more strength could I have than the “men” who were present at the scene? It is called “instinct.”

He beat on a child in front of an audience, which is something a sane person would avoid as it usually leads to questions like, “Hey, why are you stepping on that child?” and “Could you stop please?” which Mr. Aguilar obviously did not want to do. I think he had a case of the crazies and therefore cannot bring myself to sentence him to Hell. However I can’t say he won’t be going there either, cuz he’s a tad too bad for Purgatory so no vote from me.
I read this story on our local news web page and I could NOT believe what I was reading!! I’m pretty sure I would have done something to try to stop this guy. There is NO way I would have stood there and watched him beat a helpless child to death. I would have at least tried, you know? But nobody knows what was going through these people’s minds at the time. I didn’t read anywhere that he had any weapons, so wtf? I’m glad this POS was shot. Like Penny said, saves us taxpayers lots of money. I wish that would happen more often, to tell you the truth. Poor baby boy. RIP, little one!!!!
Those who stopped & failed to physically confront that pathetic excuse for a human being should be jailed. The officer who shot him should be commended. I am Mexican and I give my child a safe environment and it breaks my heart to think that any kid has to suffer a fate like this. I am Mexican and I cannot believe anyone, American, Mexican, heck! I just kept thinking, “why the fuck didn’t someone else swoop in and grab the kid and run away while someone else tackled the monster???” It is heart wrenching.
Fred–sure, it’s scary — but there should be some good Samaritan laws to protect you in that circumstance. And it would be well worth it to try your best.

Also because such is not an everyday occurance it takes a while to register that something bad is happening. I have been an “active witness” to some crazy stuff, and when coming into or having such type situations happen so close, there is a time period where the situation is incomprehensible because it is SO unusual. Last incident was a an X boyfriend slashed an X girlfriend’s tires. As I was pulling into the gas station, it looked like the guy was getting yelled at while repairing a flat tire. As I approached it looked like he was either going to get a cell phone or some tools – instead he took off.
So I rationalized away what I saw until I had more facts, then I understood but by then 1 tire was slashed and slime bucket was gone.
WHY DID NO ONE HELP??? I was at Target a while back, and some douchebag left her child in a car seat as she ran in, I was trying to break the window as I was dialed 911…and when that c*nt came out, I launched myself at her and had to be stopped by 2 security guards (I’m a woman of medium stature) that’s how PISSED I was, and you’re going to tell me that these people just stood around and were too “terrified” to interfere? I would have killed the SOB with my own bare hands if I was there. I would risk being shot at or getting hurt to save a child YES I WOULD!!!

It’s so sad, it’s the world we live in. About a month ago a friend of mine was going downtown Detroit to a regular cancer check-up. She got a flat tire pulled off the freeway to an area full of people (tiger game just got out) some guy offered to change her tire for her. When she opened the truck he took the tire iron and beat her almost to death. NOT ONE PERSON JUMPED IN, NOT ONE PERSON. She spent almost a week in a coma and 2 weeks in ICU. She said there were people of all shapes, sizes and races standing around yet nobody helped her until he finished. This was in the middle of the day in Downtown Detroit and the man still hasn’t been caught.
Sweet Jesus! I have never in my life understood how anyone can hurt a child, much less stomp a defensless toddler to death or starve a baby, or drown your five children one by one. Mental health has so much to do with it, I understand that, BUT it all just makes my skin crawl and a turning in the pit of my stomach. Sadness beyond belief on this one and my heart goes out to that mother, I just can’t imagine!

I live in Arizona… actually i live in PIMA county. I’ve noticed a handful of our fine citizens have made it here. They did not however use guns.. hey one used giant dildos!
I bring this up because we are an open carry state and a lot of people have guns (legally). I thought i would really be uncomfortable with this. The first time i saw someone going into the store with a gun strapped to them it was weird to say the least.
I’ve cut a lot of people off and haven’t gotten shot at. I do a lot of asshole things and haven’t gotten shot at. I’ve actually started to like guns lately as i wouldn’t want to run across some asshole kicking a baby and not do anything about it. Or ya know be in a store that gets held up (that doesn’t happen much here).
So this crazy idea that we will solve all of our problems by shooting each other is ridiculous. Normal people have some respect for human life and don’t want to go to jail. I would like to be able to protect myself from those who don’t (who already have guns) rather than stand around like other sheeple and get slaughtered.

I think that to understand what went through the witness’s minds that evening would be overwhelming. We never really know how we would react to something unless we experience it. Though you think to yourself ‘Hey, I would totally stop that person.’ You truly don’t know how you would react. Fear and Confusion gets the best of people in a time like this. I would not go as far as calling the bystanders ‘cowards’, I would just call them ‘human’.

If this cowardly crowd just watched as a baby was stomped to death, what do you think they did when the cop showed up? Odds are they distanced themselves from the crime just so that they themsleves would not be involved. I am sure that the cop had a pretty clear shot.
Also the cop was stuck behind an electric barbed wire fence, and as indicated in the story, asking the guy to stop beating the child just did not work.

So, there has been this story all over my local news about an elderly gentleman who steps out onto the street and a speeding car hits him and throws him over the hood. There were I’d say about 20 witnessess and NOT one person helped this poor man. Not one. Someone did call 9-1-1 and the first person to go to man’s side, to even see if he was still alive was a police officer. I was sad, outraged, upset, and disappointed by this…so you can ONLY IMAGINE how I feel about people watching a baby being beat to death. I’m sorry, if the man didn’t have a gun to my head, I would try everything I could to get him to back off. I would have hit him with a rock if I had to. I’m sure his back was facing someone at one point or another. You may not always know what you would do in a situation like this, but personally I know what I would do. I’m a 5’2” female and I saw a man hit a woman once and I hit him in the head with a beer bottle. He stopped hitting her and left. Wasn’t too difficult. I don’t care if this man was crazy or not, there should be a special place for him in the pit of hell.
Some of these abusers are really whimps – the thought of someone else fight them will make them back down; they only want to fight fights they know they can win.
Even if this guy was not afraid of beatingthe crap out of you, he problably realized that if you are the type to set in, then you are the type to press charges and make them stick.

I couldn’t even get to the part where he was killed, NO ONE HELPED THE CHILD!??!?!??! What the fuck is wrong with those people, because “he might have something in his pockets”? A smack to the back of his head with a tire iron would have solved that problem real quick!! He wouldn’t even see you coming, what with his beating the child and all. I don’t care what their pathetic excuses is, even if the child was dead by the time they got there, that should be even more reason to go ahead and kill the man doing the beatings now, and save everyone the burden of his trial!

I had a very similiar experience to yours Tress. About 4 years ago I was getting off work and I was standing around talking with some friends. I happened to look over in the parking lot and saw what looked a man leaning into a woman’s car and playing with her. It took me a couple of minutes to fingure out that what was actually happening was this man was strangling his wife while his 1 yr. old son watched and cried. There were guys in this group that I looked at and said what was happening. Turns out they thought that it was none of their business and didn’t want to get involved. Now, I am a very petite lady. I weigh somewhere in the vicinity of about 95 pounds and am about 5’5. I grabbed a beer bottle and went over to this man and smacked him in the back of the head with my bare hand first to get his attention. He turned around and started yelling at me for interfering. The worst part about all of this was I was ready to take on this fat piece of crap because I had the beer bottle behind my back but when he got in my face and was threatening to knock my face in the guys in the crowd came over and tried to calmly restrain him. I knew what I was getting into but yet that poor innocent woman was losing her life and no one was willing to help. I was truly disgusted with human beings that night. Had anyone called the police that night, I know that I could’ve gotten charged with assault but I was willing to live with that because I couldn’t have lived with watching a woman die. People have lost their kindness. This story just breaks my heart. I would’ve distracted that man. I would rather he have tried to or did kick me than to kick an innocent baby. My body could take a couple of kicks that baby never stood a chance.
I can’t wrap my mind around the thought that people actually stood there watching this guy kill his own kid without trying to intervene. I can understand how people may not want to get involved in situations between adults, but how in the hell could you stand there and watch a child getting beaten to death? That just blows my mind and pisses me off! I would have done everything in my power to stop this guy and save this kid if I had been there. Stories like this actually make me shake when I type because they get me so angry. I can’t even begin to imagine how scared and confused this poor little one must have felt as he was being beaten and tortured by his father. The poor little one was probably confused because he was wondering what he had done to make his Daddy do this to him and because Daddy’s are not supposed to hurt you. Sadly, this child may not have known that Daddy’s are not supposed to hurt you because he may have been abused by this POS his entire life. To the people that tried to save this poor little baby, thank you for your efforts and for trying to do the right thing. It’s people like you that help make the world a better place!
