    Lin Miaoke

Lin MiaokeLittle girls like Lin Miaoke are evil.

Oh, adults may not think so. To adults, girls like Lin Miaoke are perfect. Pretty, bright, cheerful, beautiful voice…what’s not to like about Lin Miaoke?

Lin Miaoke, the little girl in the red dress who sang the patriotic Chinese song called “Hymn to the Motherland” during the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics, was very proud to have been chosen as the “face of China.” When 15% of the population of the world sees you, the “face of China,” sing – and sing well – a little pride can be a good thing.

The problem is that, while Lin Miaoke might have been the face that night, another little girl, Yang Peiyi, was the voice.

This is Yang Peiyi, the Laura Ingalls Wilder to Lin Miaoke’s Nellie Oleson.

Yang PeiyiAccording to an interview that ceremony’s musical designer, Chen Qigang, made with a Beijing radio station, Yang Peiyi had gone through and won a grueling singing competition – the prize of which was to perform the song, live, in front of the world.

Yang Peiyi won the competition and was practicing feverishly to perfect the song, but at the last moment a member of the Chinese politburo who was watching her rehearse decided that while Yang Peiyi might have the perfect voice for the role, she was far too unattractive to actually represent China.

So that night, during the opening ceremonies, while a perfectly sung pre-recording of Yang Peiyi’s singing was played, Lin Miaoke stood prettily before the world and lip-synched every word.

During the radio interview, which has since been destroyed utterly from the Internet by the Chinese government, Chen Qigang said this:

This was a last-minute question, a choice we had to make. Our rehearsals had already been vetted several times – they were all very strict. When we had the dress rehearsals, there were spectators from various divisions, including above all a member of the politburo who gave us his verdict: we had to make the swap.

Yang Peiyi wasn’t the first singer who was deselected due to not having the required attractiveness level. Chen Qigang told the interviewer that one of the 10 the initial hopefuls to sing the anthem was a ten-year-old who had originally been chosen for the quality of her voice – but that she was also eliminated because she was not “cute” and not “young” enough.

It’s almost like the Mao Zedong was in charge again, except as far as we know, these Chinese leaders aren’t pedophiles.

Chen Qigang felt that there was really nothing wrong with the deception:

The reason was for the national interest. The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feelings, and expression. We have a responsibility to face the audience of the whole country, and to be open with this explanation. We should all understand it like this: it is a question of the national interest. It is a question of the image of our national music, our national culture. Especially at the entrance of our national flag, this is an extremely important, an extremely serious matter. So we made the choice. I think it is fair to both Lin Miaoke and Yang Peiyi – after all, we have a perfect voice, a perfect image and a perfect show, in our team’s view, all together.

Despite not actually singing during the ceremony, Lin Miaoke – who has been in several television ads prior to the Olympic ceremony – has been enjoying herself, giving interviews to the myriad of news organizations who were anxious to talk with the “face of China.”

    Does Lin Miaoke Deserve Hell?

    • No - The politburo member who ordered the switch does (74%, 1,005 Votes)
    • No - nobody does, the needs of the state are paramount (15%, 203 Votes)
    • Yes - evil little girl! (11%, 143 Votes)

    Total Voters: 1,351

Oh this won’t irritate anyone, I’m sure.

      • AmericanPsycko says:

what’s interesting is that men judge from appearances, but God sees through that and straight into your heart – how about you? fyi, admin – great post!

      • whiteiris says:

The whole story is bizarre. And they act so kosher about the whole thing. Kind of the way they handled the partially fake firework show accusation. This did not surprise me. Aren’t they the country that would like to do away with little girls all togther and limit each family to only one. Hmm? However not as bizarre as the add to our right ‘Asian girls for love and marriage’. The things we support to read good articles. :o)

    2. DualDenz says:

i big NO from me. it doesn’t take a genius to figure out how important appearance is for the Chinese and it’s a bit unfair to project our morals unto them.
don’t get me wrong, i’m no fan of the Chinese government, but i wont judge them either. i’ll stick to judging people that live by simmilar moral standards as i thank you very much.

    3. TurtleMania says:

What didn’t they like about Yang Peiyi?
She has short hair, imperfect nose and teeth and she has no eyebrows.

The whole world is shallow. We should kill everyone and start over using jellybeans.

admin – Bingo. Yang Peiyi will be remembered as the girl who was too ugly for TV, which is pretty screwed up.

      • Mulch says:

Well we got another mass murderer in the making…she’ll go around her whole life “hearing voices” to eat the souls of those who made the decision for the switch.

Picture a pretty chinese woman kneeling over a dead political type, with a bloody knife in her hand. Yelling “YOU TOLE ME JANCE!”

    4. Tress says:

I’m going to go with no. The firework display was fake, too…are we voting on that too? They are just shallow as is just about the whole world…not hell worthy.

      • Kenny says:

the fire works display wasn’t fake live…just the footprints on TV because they wouldn’t have shown up on screen very well…live, all true

    5. Mazzi says:

OK no hell. But that hurts me to the bone. How can people be so cruel to children?

If appearance is so damned important, then take a cue from the rest of the world. We have perfected “image-making” to the point that homely people like Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie can appear to be attractive.

Yang isn’t deformed (like our friend Stanley), and is not butt-ugly. She may not be QUITE as perfect as Lin, but put some fake pigtails and a little lipgloss and eyeliner and she would be cute. (Note the fucking sarcasm here? The girl with the actual talent is adorable!)

    6. bb314 says:

Mazzi is dead-on, but I still believe anyone, regardless of moral culture, knows right from wrong and I vote Hell for The politburo member. In my opinion, the “face of China” is way too Barbie-like and that became “unattractive” long ago. Imperfect is the new perfect… they are just way behind in so many aspects…

    7. jeff says:

I “sang” the finale solo of the Super Bowl XX half-time show in New Orleans. So, I found it interesting to watch the “breaking news” of the little girl whose voice but not face was used for the opening ceremonies. This has been done for years. Like I said, I “sang” the finale solo of the Super Bowl XX half-time show in New Orleans. Yes, shocker, here in the United States. Well, it was me the world saw but someone I never even met recorded “my” voice months earlier and I was simply the “look” the producers wanted. I feel sorry for the little girl whose voice was used, but it is not like this is the first time this has been done. Trust me, the girl who lip synced will have a lot more explaining to do… I know! But in the end, what an honor to be either the voice OR the face. Pretty cool regardless, don’t you think?

      • Bill says:

Nice how you justify people stepping all over you as “pretty cool”.

Do you see allowing artistic deception to become acceptable behavior as a good thing? Do you see perpetuating deception to be a good thing? By your actions, you hurt every single artist alive. Who cares what you sang?

I mean everyone else lies, why not me?

admin – I like the cut of your jib.

      • TurtleMania says:

Jeff how do you explain that to Yang Peiyi ?
When she wonders why she wasn’t the little girl on TV, what do you say to her?

Ok. Let’s be blunt honest to her.

Yang you were too ugly. You have a wonderful voice but… but… but your face… is not one China would love. (this is the BIG hug part)

I think this will ruin the little girl because now she will be so absorbed on how she looks and she’ll probably become shallow and only date guys that look perfect. This is a disease, yes.

    8. A Chinese says:

I had to do this first time in my life to comment in a blog.

If this is true, it is outrageous and sad. Stupidest thing ever!

It pretty much ruins the whole thing for me.

Shame on whoever made the decision.

Give me hope, tell me this is just a rumor!

      • Liz Sanchez says:

Not a rumor, it’s allll over the media!!!
I’m surprised they didn’t put a little boy up there to lip sink, I thought little girls were detested in China???? Am I wrong???

        • eternal says:

i was jus wondering that same thing, liz.

        • Mazzi says:

The Chinese don’t hate girls in general. It’s just that their oppressive government has decided that each family can only have one child.

Boys stay in the family when they become adults and marry (taking care of their parents in their old age), while women become part of their husband’s family after marriage. (Thus being a drain on the family income for no future reward).

So, unfortunately, many peasant chinese families will do anything they can to get a boy child, and even go so far as killing, abandoning or selling the girls so they can try again in the sperm lottery. Its kind of like here – it’s the ignorant ones who hurt their kids.

Educated and progressive Chinese families do not hate their daughters. The daughters are being given every opportunity that a well-off Chinese boy is given and many are spoiled little princesses. I am guessing that Little Miss Lin is one of the princesses.

    9. bb314 says:

I guess it just goes to show people really need to consider that what they are seeing may not be what they think they are seeing… when it comes to children though, it is just down right low to impose that type of value system…

    10. Theryman says:

So how does this make the little girl evil? Maybe the adults who manipulated her and her peer are evil, but it is hard to cast blame on a 9 year old girl for wanting to be the object of attention…

    11. Joe says:

It’s not the kid’s fault. The Chinese are acting insecure by doing this. Oh, look, we raise perfect pretty, happy, singing girl! It’s like a Chinese restaurant… looks okay up front, the food is edible, but if you listen closely, you can hear the cries of little puppies and kittens coming from the kitchen.

    12. Cass says:

Why the hell would you send a little girl to hell with all those rapists and murders?

    13. Nicole says:

Hollywood does this all the time with child actors and singers.

That said, I think Yang is adorable, even if a grainy picture without the glamor of Lin’s picture. Hopefully she will now get the honor she deserves.

The Chinese, and people in general, have an issue with wanting perfection instead of seeing the beauty in imperfection.

      • maritaK says:

both of them ugly since when did a round pizza face look adorable and why she sqint at me maybe she a blind little chickin fake cos dog eatin little nenny!
go back to where you came from we dont need yor singin over here

    14. Jeff says:

They are both probably little sweethearts who did the best they could when they were asked to do it.

It would have been refreshing to see the singer, (who to me is cuter because of her “imperfections”) on the stage. $20 says we see her on International Idol or something like that.

The Nellie Olsen reference was funny though.

    15. Jane says:

Ya know? I look at both children and actually think Yang is the cuter one. She’s REAL looking.

The Chinese government makes me ill. An oppressive government who is all about THEMSELVES and not about their people. Just makes me sick.

    16. Nissa says:

I think it’s sad that they did this, and I think it’s doubly sad that they did this at the Olympics. The Olympics are all about personal talent, which that little girl had. Are they going to substitute ugly medal winners with ‘beautiful’ people too?

    17. gary says:

Please….stop being an idiotic racist. If the child was a white little girl, is she evil and should go to hell for doing what her government instructed her to do?

      • TurtleMania says:

Everyone is evil and should go to hell.
I’ve been saying this all along, let us start over.
We’ve failed mother earth. We should all lie down and perish. Jellybeans will take our place because there are so many colored jellybeans and all of them would be equal in weight and height. There would be no racism sexism or any other ism you can name.
Gary go buy some jellybeans and put them up your ass so you can harvest them and lay down. We’ll start with you first.

      • maritaK says:

no white little girl is evil!!!!
        ASSHOLE!
i want you in hell gary for makin false statements you must be from chinese

        • Tress says:

You must be from chinese???? WTF

          • Max The Cat says:

Yeah man, what’s up with that? Is marita possibly an imported racists. his command of the English language leads one to suspect as much. Wouldn’t that be a kick in the ass, a certified racists immigrant-hating homophobic jackoff who turns out to be a foreign model. Now I’ve heard of everything….

      • LoriC says:

This has nothing to do with the children’s nationality and everything to do with the Chinese government. They are so desperate to be in control of everything that happens, I can assume that most in China have no idea Lin Miaoke didn’t actually sing the song opening night. The Chinese government controls what their lucky citizens get to see, hear and experience. The United States government may be flawed in a big way, but at least we can speak our minds in a forum like this. I’m sure people of China can’t even access this website. The Chinese government doesn’t want the Chinese to have independent thought process-they want them to be mindless drones.

    18. jj says:

To hell who wrote the above article. To hell who said Miaoke is an evil or said Peiyi is ugly. Neither of the two girls had done anything wrong. Why the hack you scum try to insult the innocent children? All children are beautiful. Don’t forget you didn’t have a choice when your mom and dad made you. My take is that it would be equally elegant had Miaoke song with her own voice, or were Peiyi on stage singing and performing. The “perfect” match is some idiot Chinese official’s decision. Still I would not make a big fuss about it.

      • AmericanPsycko says:

she’ll be an adult one day and remember that she can get away with anything because she’s easy on the eyes and whore her way to riches at your expense

    19. Max The Cat says:

Nothing the Chinese Government does surprises me. Remember, these are pretty much the same people who sicked tanks on their own citizens not all that long ago. They’re so paranoid about these Olympics that anyone with a hint of a dissenting opinion about anything is tucked safely away in prison, an insane asylum, or dumped onto “Fantasy Island” with Survivor Man, 2 weeks worth of supplies and a raincoat.

    24. JD says:

and I thought Michael J. Fox was actually singing Johnny B. Goode lol

    25. ACC says:

Wow… I can’t believe some of the posts here. I randomly got to this site while looking up details on the story.

Fact: Lin Miaoke is a little girl!
Fact: Politicians made the decision to do the lip sync!

Is lip-syncing and pushing this preconception of “cute” or “pretty” right? Not by a long shot. But is this young girl guilty of politics, hatred, or meanness towards the singer? Some of you may believe “yes” because she took center stage due to her looks. However, I think you’re just dismissing her as a human being by writing her off as ” inherently evil” due to her looks. She’s a child for pete sake. Do you know her personality? Do you know what she’s like? For all you know, she may grow up into a woman who does scientific research and never leans upon her looks for getting ahead. And we all know not every cute child star ends up looking good in life.

Psst. Lots of “hot” celebrities are products of plastic surgery and were not the cute kids in their youth.

She’s the face of China at the Olympics because the politicians selected her and because it’s an honor to represent the country. 1992 Barcelona had one of the most awesome torch lighting ceremonies where a paralympic archer shot a flaming arrow at the torch. It secretly flew over and behind the torch while someone somewhere turned on the flame. The switch thrower should have credit, but the arrow shot what people remember. To ostracize this young girl for representing her country…. I hope she never reads comments like these baseless character assassinations when she grows up.

Fact: A diet of nothing but chocolate ice cream will kill you!
Fact: Chocolate ice cream has no remorse! It is merely a food item!
Fact: I can spew facts all day! And exclamation points!

And another thing. Celebrities don’t need help being hot. They just are. And for you to tell them they weren’t cute as children is just wrong and stupid.

I bet you were on Nellie Oleson’s side, weren’t you?

      • ACC says:

There you go making another assumption about someone you don’t know. Just an FYI, I read the whole series as a child and was happy when Laura put an end to third wheel rides.

It’s not “wrong and stupid,” but you merely fail to see the connection. You assume this “cute” posterchild will use her looks for the easy road in life when my point was that many celebrities come about their status through artificial means to achieve society’s ill-conceived notions of beauty. Therefore, you’re logical steps show a flaw as “cute” or “hot” are not necessarily dictated by previous perceptions in youth and those who take the easy life by looks are also subject to this.

You can spew facts with exclamations all day, and so long as they’re facts, that’s great. I see you’re not disagreeing but using sarcasm as an attempt of rebuttal. Well, have a nice day as you, I assume a grown rational adult, continue belittling a nine year old child, assuming she’ll grow up a conceited person because you’re prejudiced against her due to her looks and the communist government’s usage of her as a poster child. I like how you have a post on this girl and yet do not post about the organizers or the politicians, but merely include them as options in your poll.

Have a nice day. =) Don’t worry, this is the last post I’ll make.

        • ACC says:

Actually, I’m going to flip flop. Before someone else turns it into a grammar party, I am aware of the difference between your and you’re. =P There, last post.

        • admin says:

There was really no rebuttal in the first place. Just a quick trip into the depths of absurdity.

A grown rational adult should be able to detect the actual target of the article. Since their name cannot be found, a substitute must be. Sort of a Jewish cursed goat thing.

    26. Heh. Touche. You win this round; your lead still stinks, though.

    27. Little girls like Lin Miaoke are evil.

You are so desperate for readers that you would hold a 9 year old girl accountable for a decision made by her music director?

      Really?

    28. MrEthiopian says:

Children should never be blamed for the stupidity of adults.

      Kids rule!

    29. LoriC says:

This is no surprise to me. The Chinese government are so worried about appearances and winning that they don’t care what story gets swept under the rug, or who gets hurt in order to appear perfect.
Americans are the same to a degree. Most celebrities are superficial-really only worried about their appearance.
I feel for Yang Peiyi. She’s been told at a early age she just doesn’t look good enough. I think she looks like a cute child. To be honest, I find Lin Miaoke to look like a possessed doll. But again-this isn’t Lin’s fault either. They are both just pawns in control hungry China’s hands.

    30. Marcie says:

admin – Don’t you mean Mirri Vanirri?

    33. Kenny says:

I’m sorry if I say what’s been said…I got a headache from MaritaK and Gary…China is Communist. There ya go, that explains it all away. They had a big Gestappo military follow the atheletes in so the world would see you don’t fuck with China. What do you want to do…are you really surprised they wanted to show perfection? They painted trees and leaves along the roads that people would actually see so China looked perfect and industrial. Trust me…my brother was there about a month or so ago on business and they drove him only on teh main roads, but an office he was in had a window overlooking the slums. It’s all a facade and I wish we had decided to boycott these Olympics for just the reason that they are Communist. Don’t send the children to hell or the people…send the leaders who insist on Communism (Watch Russia return to Communism within 3 years-off topic)

    34. Sherry says:

You gotta admit, Yang Peiyi is a pretty ugly kid. Lin Miaoke is the purdiest little Chinese kid I ever saw!

      • Mazzi says:

Awww Sherry – you are not supposed to say stuff like that. All of Gods children are beautiful! Let’s all hold hands and dance in a meadow with joy!!!

(btw – you’re kidding – right? I think Yang is adorable! I think Lin is adorable too, but Yang looks way more “real”.)

        • Sherry says:

You’re right. I love all children too and they’re all beautiful on one way or another. I WAS being a smart ass but if someone was going to say one was “cuter” than the other, my vote would definitely go to Lin Miaoke.

        • Lindsay's Personal Human Toilet says:

          F*CK REAL.REAL is for FATTIES!

The kid that sang is pretty, the other kid is UGLY…THE END.

    35. anonymous says:

I don’t understand why they didn’t just use the less attractive girl anyway, and just digitally alter her teeth and image, like they did the fireworks in the opening sequence!!!

I don’t see what the big deal is…hasn’t anyone heard of Millie Vanillie?

      It happens all the time.

    37. Hal Berman says:

The Chinese are totally f*cked. They have no moral compass whatsoever. Win at any cost. Deceive, cheat, steal, whatever it takes.
The actual singer would have been just fine in the ceremony. Where is the humanity in China?

    38. someone says:

The little girl shouldn’t go to hell, but the Chinese all should.

    39. PFY says:

I’m of a Chinese, but it doesn’t stop me from totally disagreeing with such act.

It’s sad that behind a magnificent show, there’s something so inethical. What a discriminative way in name of so-called “perfection”… Spectators do not need to be fooled this way! Is this what a country wants its kids to grow up thinking – looks, looks and looks?

The girls are still very young, but imagine the trauma on them when they grow up (yes, both of them will be affected, although in different manner).

Being fake is definitely not the way to impress others.

      • OHcomeON says:

        Unethical.

        • ying says:

oh come on. ppl like you piss me off. You obviously got the point.Don’t you have anything better to say than to take pride in picking on someone who’s mother tongue isn’t Engish?

for fucks sake. lets see you write in Chinese.

          • Max The Cat says:

For fucks sake. Let’s see you act like someone without shit for brains. Let’s play the race card, yeah, that’s the ticket. People like you make me want to puke. What the Chines did is typical of a government that does everything for show, give shit zero about the people they’re supposed to govern, and are generally all you ever need to know about what’s wrong with a totalitarian regime. If you think I’m full of shit, just take a look at how they handled the latest tainted milk fiasco. If it wasn’t for their own citizens going on the internet and telling the truth, people there would still be dying.

    40. Darkest Maiden says:

The Chinese have always been like this. They think children are just for looking at. For instance they were still allowing child prostitution not so long ago. Same in Taiwan. The little girl had an amazing sweet little voice, and her face even sweeter, imperfections come from the inside, not the out. What a fantastic way to educate the young. Lin looks like the type of girl that paedophiles would go for. SICKENING.

    41. Kathy says:

Do you really think Miaoke’s parents had a choice about allowing her to “perform” at the opening ceremonies? In a communist government, I imagine her parents had no choice but to comply with the request. To tell the government officials, “Sorry, but I think what you’re asking me to do is dishonest and immoral” would have been perceived as disloyality to the government, who knows what the repercussions may have been.

I don’t think Miaoke had a choice, either…chinese girls are raised to be obedient to their parents…

Whoever leaked this information to the press did a disservice to both of these children. What happened was wrong, but now the whole world knows…how humiliating to poor Peiyi…

So no, Miaoke CERTAINLY does not deserve to go to hell, she’s been a victim in this situation as much as Peiyi.

    42. Kathy says:

If this article is true, than neither Miaoke or her father knew that the voice Miaoke was going to be lip-synching to wasn’t going Miaoke’s own voice until afterwards.

    44. angie says:

      ._.
Miaoke is just a little girl. shes a victim in this as much of Peiyi is. Can you imagine how much shame both these girls will have to go through? One will forever have people and blogs like this cursing them, and the other will forever be remembered as the girl who was too ugly to be on stage.

    45. OHcomeON says:

I feel bad for Lin. She was cheated out of singing! Her voice was deemed imperfect. Imagine her embarrassment when she was told that she had to lip sync!

“Lin, your voice is like nails on chalkboards, Pei, you don’t look like a barbie doll.” Thus a hybrid was born… just in time too cuz the SMOG problem in China is no joke.

    46. Fred says:

Speaking of discrimination, when was the last time any of you men bought a copy of Buff? (if they still make it)
For me it was back in the late 1980′s or early 1990′s – my friend and I were pissed at some asshole, so we decided to find the most disgusting stuff we could find as stuffing for a package. Buff featured women over 300 pounds. Some men may like it – fine, but I usually look at naked women who are under 200 pounds – between 110 and 175 – anything less usually does not have any curves….

So we’re all guilty of some type of discrimination – discrimination on some level is natural. Some of it needs to be dealt with by society’s rules, some of it is just beyond rules while some is healthy.

80 year old women in their death beds just do nothing for me sexually – that’s nature at work!

      • TurtleMania says:

Fred, if she’s cute I’ll take her in biggie sizes. It usually means she can cook a warm meal. And when it’s time to chow down, she won’t just eat a salad and look at me while I’m porking out.

    47. Lynn says:

I honestly believe that the Chinese representative NEVER called Yang Peiyi ugly – only that she lacked stage presence and desired look for the show. This is a pretty legitamite claim in show biz and justifies forgoing a candidate for the stage. WE in the West presumed that to mean that she is ugly and started being consumed by the media tirade that led us to presume that she was too “ugly” for the job.

Doesn’t that say a lot about us? If anything needs to be in Hell, it’s the Media for projecting their misleading stories on us and us for buying it without thinking critically. But hey, what do I expect from individuals who didn’t bother to think critically about the tanks in Tiananmen (see below)! (If you don’t realize, watch the actual video of the guy with the bag, the tanks actually ATTEMPTED TO SWERVE around him.) I guess anything to justify your own self righteousness.

If anyone will cause little girls like Yang Peiyi to develop self perception issues it will be because of US and the Media calling her too ugly – NOT the fault of China, the Poliburo, nor the Olympic Committee.

I bet the author of this post suffers from a severe self image problem and his or her outrage over this story serves to showcase the manefestation of this issue – and any “witty retorts” or deletion of this message by the admin will only serve to prove this right.

      • maritaK says:

you taking side with those COMMIE bastards?! you must be a moonface fucktart too!i said she ugly and leave it at that dont come messin around i dont need smelly rice to know you aint no good commie bastard

    48. Amy says:

Im looking at photos of both little girls. Although one has better teeth and the other looks like she cut her own fringe, i think both are beautiful.
      Kids have beauty.
I dont think anyone deserves hell, but the people that said she was TOO UGLY deserve a good kick up the arse by someone wearing steel caps.

    49. john says:

      to the admins –
does this girls face really belong on a list mainly populated with murderers and rapists?
The choice of the Chinese government was distasteful, but she likely had no decision in the matter, and it pales in comparison with most of the content (which i typically enjoy reading) on this website. – you’re talking about a little girl going to hell for singing, come on! If you want to project anger, blame the politburo guy and put his name and picture as the headline.

      • Mazzi says:

I think the point was not whether either of the children belong in hell – but whether the decision-makers who chose to harm the esteem of a perfectly adorable girl belong there.

Hurting children is wrong, be it through cruelty, negligence, abuse or torture. This was cruelty – the lowest on the spectrum, but it was still harmful to the child.

    50. marianne says:

it was shameful doing this to children at a very young age, but reading the PROs and CONTRAs, why everytime somebody gave his/her own thought which opposed to the admin’s writing, you accused them as COMMIE or taking sides? It’s simply about discrimination and everbody should admit that this happen all over the world, not just in US, China or any other countries. Anybody ever see a Miss Universe with bad teeth or bad eyebrow? Or a fat and ugly prom queen/king ?

C’mon, put aside all that racism. I don’t think the ‘freedom to talk’ mean you can hurt anyone else whose different from you. Nobody can choose where and which race to be born :)

      • Mazzi says:

Where the HELL did you get “racism” from this? With the exception of a few trolls, race is hardly an issue here, nationality and cruelty is.

Maybe you should put aside all of your hyper-sensitivity about racism? It’s people who are so quick to cry “racism” when there is none, who perpetuate the negativity of it. That would appear to be… um YOU.

And, who exactly are you writing to? You make a mention of the admin, as if he is smashing anyone with a different view. I went back and checks all of his notes, and not a ONE does that. If you mean the rest of us, then that, my dear, would mean that it is OUR opinion, not admins.

Aren’t you the one that I suggested should take her head out of her ass, yesterday? If not – that suggestion would be just as applicable to you.

        Have a nice day. RACIST!

        • Sherry says:

          Marianne is obviously Chinese.

So, fat and ugly people usually don’t get voted Prom King/Queen and NO, I’ve NEVER seen a Miss Universe with a fucked up eyebrow or jacked up teeth.

Bottom line is, you’re an idiot. It doesn’t have anything to do with racism. It’s because Yang Peiyi has a beautiful voice but uglier than a shaved horses ass. I’d much rather look at Lin Miaoke, even though she’s not really singing the song.

          It’s all really text book.

On another note…. why is it that white people never make it about race when something doesn’t go their way?

    51. TurtleMania says:

I went on a date with a tender that had faint eyebrows and over-lapping teeth but she was such a sweet and a nice lady.

Usually they are the sweetest because they know if they combine their looks with the devil’s attitude, people would shoot them on sight.

Oh, and she offered to pay the whole tab. How many women would do that?

    52. whiteiris says:

Mazzi? You seem to be the one that I might have called a racist in a recent ‘contact us comment’ (if you are not the one then you will have no idea what I am talking about) Do you answer to hate mail? Skin head is how I believe I put it. Anyway, the fact of the manner is. You seem to be offended by being called a racist… This might be good news! Could this mean you are really not a racist. I do not believe I have gotten an answer on that one yet. Tap,tap.“`nails tapping impatiently“`

    53. Anon. says:

Effing bitches. Yang is adorable, and she has an incredible voice.

    54. fiftyfour says:

it’s cruel to put a child through all those auditions and rehersals just to deny her dreams at the last minute-but still. you can’t blame the other little girl who only knew she was performing 15 minutes beforehand! (or so some articles say). kids are young and impressionable and she didn’t even know the words she was singing weren’t the ones being heard. you’re being ridicuously harsh on someone who most likely didn’t even have much of a choice.
on another note, as a second generation chinese american who has actually been to the country and talked with normal, non-political people trying live happily like everyone else, can someone please write a nice, happy article that’s not about the chinese government’s coverups (the footprints were digital because it was unsafe to film them by helicopter, by the way, reutuers has an article sayign that) or how communists are going to destroy the world. chinese people are nice people, the majority of their 1.3 billion. i’d wager that people spread all this negativity because they’re afraid of their jobs being outsourced to china or chinese nationalism (which we would call patriotism if it was in the U.S.). fine. just don’t take it out on the whole damn country. if you don’t care about slandering an entire nation of perfectly fine people, it’s also bad karma.

    55. Passerby says:

Too much PC BS in the west… Yang herself doesn’t mind, her parents don’t mind, who are you to say it had hurt her? she may grow up to be more beautiful than Lin, who knows. It’s not the best thing to do, but I don’t see it doing much harm either… if you self-righteous PC saints would just shut up already. Lin is the cuter of the two, period.

      • V says:

Finally, the voice of reason. Americans are too judgmental! Hopefully the Obama administration will get them seeing outside their own boundaries and not projecting their beliefs onto things and other cultures.

    56. ewww says:

Poor kids, that’s a legacy they won’t forget. Peiyi earned a prize and they give it to the pretty kid without the same talent (she probably has her own talents, but we’ll never know). Both of these girls will probably get a lot of crap for this. Why didn’t they just factor attractiveness into the contest if it was so important to them? Pei’s not an ugly kid, either, not that it should really matter, but she looks kind of sad (wonder why) and not pure of internal feelings if you know what I mean (I don’t). Pretty sick, but China has much bigger problems than this to deal with, like, oh…human rights, killer smog, infanticide…

    57. eternal says:

i thnk that while both girls are cute, yang is actually the cuter one. and for all of you who are talking about her teet, she’s at the age where she’s losing baby teeth and growing big ones. of course they’re not perfect. besides that, you all act like no one in your families ever needed braces! the way you all sy cruel things about children here, while boo-hooing over them elsewhere is ridiculous and kinda two-faced, don’t you think?

    58. Bubba Bob says:

No, but we have baby formula contaminated with perchlorate and peanut butter contaminated with salmonella…

Also, more people died in America from the contaminated peanut butter than died in China from the melamine contamination of the milk. The businessmen responsible for the melamine contamination in China were tried and then executed, while here in the good ol` USA, there have not even been ANY charges against the businessmen whose greed and corner-cutting killed their customers with salmonella.

Free Tibet, just like we did to Afghanistan… Good idea!

    59. Michael says:

She is kinda cute and beautiful but it’s so awful she ended up like Milli Vanilli’s Music Career I just hope they can clear her name very soon.

    60. Kevin says:

its not her fault. when you’re asked to do something in china, you have to do it. also, how many little girls would turn down the chance to do such a thing?

    61. USS Yorktown says:

I blame the Communist party for this.

    62. mayyou says:

i think who ever said that this little girl is evil i think you are it doesn’t mean she won…your evil little self think about winning will to bad if she didn’t win there still next year and puls she to little to call evil you should be the one be call evil and people see you in hell.

    63. poptart1 says:

mayyou, I am assuming that since you cannot WRITE in english that you cannot read it, either.

It was a joke. You know, Funny Ha Ha????

Anyone have a large sock filled with quarters?

    64. BNW says:

That is utterly disgusting! Why the hell are they judging the looks of a child that young to begin with? If I were Yang Peiyi I would have a serious image problem after that. Poor girl, I really feel sorry for her.

    65. MMMM says:

You guys do realize that this isn’t exactly how it happened. Even if that is why they made the switch, do you honestly think the chinese government came out and said “she’s too ugly.” i mean they probably said nothing of the sort. Maybe they switched them because Lin was a seasoned performer and they were afraid that Yang Peiyi would have difficulty with the limelight. Both girls were in the stadium and both families knew what was happening. I highly doubt the switch was made because she was ugly. Because clearly she’s not ugly. But either way, you shouldn’t send a nine year old child to hell because she lip synced a song. That’s ludicrous

    66. Peter says:

The problem with Lin Miaoke is that she is a self-satisfied little smugster (see her interview on youtube). She has no shame or embarrassment at being a fraud and just keeps sending flirty little looks at the camera – which she is FAR too young to do.

      She deserves hell, big time.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-l_DKnGwYg

And in this part she even lip-syncs again without showing an ounce of remorse…..

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJFYZcfP-I0&feature=related

Damn her for eternity, Satan. Damn her !

      • Michael says:

You deserve hell too. You are even more shameless. I just don’t believe such “adults” like you will be so mean to a little girl. I bet you never had any higher education. Disgusting.

        • NavyCop says:

Michael, do you not know the meaning of SARCASM? There’s also a story on Bristol Palin’s Baby Daddy….. We all need a bit of sarcasm to lighten the mood in here. With all the rapists, child abusers, and murderers, it’s a nice change to have comedic relief in the form of a roast of a lip syncer. Chill out!

    67. Amy says:

Yang is a pretty girl. Very sad she had the chance snatched away from her by a group of self-serving superficial “ohh what will the world think” politi-holes.

    68. Michael says:

What the hell are you talking about? You are accusing such a young innocent little girl. Whatever mistake the government has, you should NOT EVER POST SOMETHING LIKE “Lin Miaoke | People You’ll See In Hell”.

I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO REMOVE THIS TITLE! Does your daughter deserve this treatment???

    69. Jessica says:

Lin just makes me sick..i wonder why did the government think Lin is cute

    70. AgJu says:

this is a story I didn’t get…..why is the little girl the one being the headliner for this story to hell? Why not the people who set up the switch?

    71. V.XIII says:

      Yang is beautiful to me…

    72. SWU says:

Chinese government isn’t as evil as some of you make it out to be. It isn’t even a real ‘communist’ country anymore. Give China a break, it was a huge deal that they hosted the 2008 Olympics and they just wanted to make sure everything went perfect. The Chinese citizens were very hurt due to the fact that so many people in other countries were protesting the Olympics they took so much pride in hosting.

But I’m not sayin that lip synching is right… Both girls are cute, no one deserves hell.
