So you are disputing that his mother is sympathetic to him. And you are saying that the ABC news reporter who said this is lying? http://www.abc4.com/mostpopular/story.aspx?content_id=4a290f8e-204b-4bdd-8594-6c5e9d00a868

Generally reporters tend to not say things that are libelous about citizens, since they can be sued. But I will hold a slight opening in my mind for the possibility that the reporter is lying and the parents are really pretty much OK.

What you are saying does sound like the way a normal family would react to having a freak son - but we have no proof of that either.

So I ask you, who would YOU be more likely to believe? A legitimate news organization, or a nameless poster on a message board?

What nightmare for them. Thanks for letting light shine on aspect we would have otherwise not known. As far as getting the facts straight about this guy, it is not something I was personally interested in knowing. Most of our comments are based off of emotions due to what other guys like Bagnes have done to children. I have no sympathy for him (no matter the circumstances). I believe if guys like this were locked up permanently (they can not be cured) kids would night die. And mother Bagnes could start moving on now and dealing with fact her son will never walk the streets again. You yourself see what she is going through with him out on the streets. It will never end, he will always be a nightmare waiting to happen. I hope her other SEVEN children are pitching in to help her. Nine people can get alot more accomplished then 2.

How can anyone sit there and judge this mother based on the comments of an irate blogger, who claims that she "says that this is all an innocent mistake" without bothering to check any facts? When has this woman ever been quoted as saying these words, or even making statements to that effect? Have the administrators of this site talked to or interviewed his mother- or any member of the family? Have they spoken to any of Barton's seven siblings- all of whom turned out normal and now lead healthy, productive lives? Have any of you witnessed the regularly scheduled emotional drama, wherein these distraught parents beg, plead, cajole, and even threaten Barton into attending his psychological counseling? Has anyone heard even one of the many screaming matches that result when his mother confiscates his diapers, or searches his room, or reviews his web history? Did any of you watch his father suffer a heart attack and nearly die after making the stressful decision to turn in his son to the police? That's right- it was his doting, 'nutty' parents who originally put Barton Bagnes behind bars, and got him on the sex-offender registry. Not vigilant childcare employees, not concerned neighbors, not Marcos Ortiz, the 'crack investigative reporter who broke this story', not even web-bloggers. It was his parents and siblings who first noticed Barton's abberant behavior. It was the parents who insisted that he attend counseling. When the counseling didn't work, it was the parents who contacted law enforcement. It is those same parents who have had the horrible court-ordered responsibilty of trying to keep a man on a leash who is completely unable to tell the difference between right and wrong. Believe me- they aren't letting Barton stay with them for his sake- they want to keep an eye on him to protect other children from being victimized. What have these parents got for their troubles? A heart attack, reporters smearing their names on TV and the Internet, harassing phone calls and letters, repeated death threats, and a bunch of bloggers calling them "fucking morons".
There is no doubt that Barton Bagnes needs to spende several years in prison. I have greater reason to hate him than any of you- my children have been his victims. But demonizing his parents based on one web blog is just plain wrong. You are condemning this mother to hell based on commentary by someone who, most likely, has never met his mother or father. Even if any of you have met the family, it's clear that none of you have all of the facts straight. I would hope that if the situation was reversed, and that if Bagnes' were judging any of you, that they would bother to find out all of the facts before casting judgement.
