This is Josef Fritzl, 73. He owned a nice apartment building in Ammstetten, Austria.
To most anyone, Josef Fritzl looked to be a normal, caring father and a dedicated engineer.
Looks aren’t everything.
In the summer of 1984 Josef Fritzl put a long premeditated plan in action. Late one August afternoon he demanded that Elisabeth, his 18 year old daughter, help him take a door down to the bomb shelter he had been building in fear of nuclear fallout. She complied despite the fact that she actually hated her father for the late night visits to her room and the extra attention he paid to her.
Once in the shelter Elisabeth’s life went from pretty bad to hell on Earth. She woke up in complete darkness, aware only that she had been handcuffed at the wrists, and bound by one ankle with a rope to a pipe running along a cold concrete wall.
With absolutely zero light reaching her she lost track of days.
During the initial months of Elisabeth’s imprisonment in the small cement room, Josef Fritzl forced Elisabeth to write a letter stating that she had run away a religious sect and would leave the country if her family or the authorities searched for her. Rosemarie, her mother, believed the letter because Elisabeth, the year prior, had run away for three weeks before being returned to her family by police.
During the 24 years of imprisonment, without sunlight, fresh air, fresh food or any interaction with anyone besides her rapist father, Elisabeth bore seven children out of her forced incestuous relationship with her father. Josef Fritzl did expand the bunker, as the little ones came and grew larger. Coming every three days or so Josef would bring food, clothing and sometimes remove waste.
No one was allowed in the bunker. He told his wife, children, neighbors, friends, everyone that he was working on patents for machines he would sell.
After all no one really had reason to doubt him, so I guess it sort of makes sense that no one questioned Josef about why he spent so much time down in the shelter, bringing supplies, food, clothes, toys and sometimes even staying an entire day and night. Oh, except that time in 1967 that he was convicted of breaking into the home of a young women’s house and raping her at knife point, but that was a long time ago and had nothing to do with this…right?
Josef Fritzl felt it was unacceptable to allow Elisabeth access to anyone, not even a hospital when she gave birth, six times.
Instead he made sure she had napkins, fresh water and a few books…probably titles like:
- Baby Delivery for Dummies: How to give birth in your basement or bomb shelter
- Do It Yourself – Giving Birth without a Doctor or a Clue
- Step-by-Step: How to Care for your Sister/Daughter or Brother/Son
Elisabeth, without any medical attention, gave birth to seven children in this cell.
She had twins at some point, however, due to an illness at birth (and most likely the lack of proper medical attention) one of the twins perished. Josef Fritzl took the body and burned it in an incinerator in the very same basement as this tiny little inconvenience was not reason enough to free his captives.
The other children were lucky to survive in this unfortunate environment; however, three of them were also sickly and weren’t going to survive past infancy if they stayed in the dungeon.
Josef figured that more letters had to be written to explain why he would “find” these babies left by his irresponsible brain-washed daughter on their door step.
Rosemarie and police again bought the Josef’s and the letter’s explanation of illegitimate children that Elisabeth neither could nor would care for. So Rosemarie and Josef raised Alexander (surviving twin), Monika and Lisa as their own.
The three other children, Kirsten, Stephan and Felix (now 19,18 and 5 respectively) spent every single day and night locked behind a series of electronically programmed doors, especially designed and installed to keep them prisoners.
Down in their house of horrors, the kids had nothing but boxed and canned food, which we all know is packed with tons of nutrition for growing boys and girls.
They had a small TV that allowed them to watch very select programs, a fish tank for hours of endless entertainment, and of course the never ending rapes of their mother by their grandfather/father.
It wasn’t until the eldest Kirsten experienced uncontrollable seizures and fainting spells that Elisabeth became more adamant that Josef allow the family access to a doctor.
Now, we know that Josef Fritzl wasn’t really keen on the idea of doctors, being the protective father he is, but a day in April of 2008 made him change his mind.
Kirsten had been having seizures and after a particularly bad episode one day, Elisabeth found that Kirsten wasn’t responsive and didn’t appear to be breathing.
Most likely fearing that he wouldn’t have strength to get her 19 year old body into the incinerator, Josef took the his unconscious granddaughter/daughter to the local hospital.
Elisabeth had cleverly scribbled a small note explaining some symptoms and asked that the doctors please help her daughter, and stashed in away in one of Kirsten’s clothing pockets.
The doctor found this note and must have had the biggest brain of his graduating class because he didn’t believe that the man that had just brought an unconscious teenager, didn’t know where she came from, what was wrong with her or who she was. The doctor, in conjunction with a local media company, broadcast a plea for Kirsten’s mother to come forward.
In the cellar, Elisabeth had finally had it and demanded that Josef let her go to the hospital to be with Kirsten. Josef, at age 73 was not the same man that held Elisabeth down with chloroform and raped her in every way a human can be raped. Josef was now tired and old and maybe realized that his time was up and it was time to let Elisabeth and the other children go.
On the way to the hospital they discussed the lie that they would tell. Elisabeth had seen the broad cast from her religious sect and had begged her father to forgive her and bring her to the hospital to be with her daughter.
Police split the duo apart as they reached the hospital doors. Josef Fritzl, of course spun his disgusting lies – and so did Elisabeth – until the police and hospital staff assured her that she would never have to see her Father again if she would just tell them the truth.
She told the horrified hospital staff and police of her 24 years of imprisonment by her own father, and also revealed that Josef has been molesting and raping her since she was 11.
Josef Fritzl was arrested and remains in custody until his trial begins sometime in December of 2008.

Nothing about this story makes the least bit of sense. (Not the writing – the actual story).
Fritzl’s defense seems to be that the Nazi’s made him do it.
He also says that the reason he first put her down there was because she was starting to get interested in *gasp* boys and other teenage things. So, to protect her from raving sex maniacs, he stashed her away.

The father is a sick fuck and the mother and neighbours must be blind. I cant see how he kept her down there and no one was suss. For one there must have been some noises. For two, how did he expalin the extra food bills.

One thing to keep in mind is the type of woman that men like this are likely to marry in the first place. It is part of the “profile” for these sick fucks.
The women are usually timid and meek, often religious and almost always naive. If they are not actively abused by the husbands, they are almost always emotionally abused.
Thes kinds of men are “controllers”, and there is no way they could stay with a woman who was not controllable.
So the controlled woman learns to never doubt or question her man. Not so much that she would look away completely if she actually SAW something (although, many do), but if they stumbled across something suspicious, they would accept any explanation, no matter how ridiculous.
One of the ways that the men controll the women is by putting a fear of “the world” into them. They learn to believe that their only hope for survival is based on the man’s generosity. The wives rarely ever work outside the home, and have little contact with others, which helps “keep them in line”.
Fritzl’s daughter was trying to break the mold. And he could not tolerate that. So he physically isolated her, and basically triied to turn her into his wife, version2.
But the daughter – even through all of that, seems like she kept a ’spark’ of her independence and when she was able, she broke free. Sadly, it was after more than half her life.
That wonderful Rev Phelps is a prime example of that type of man. He beat his wife and kids, and his wife was/is too scared to stop it because the “world is wicked”…
A lot of his grown children still beleive him to this day.

One woman I was thinking of, the wife of serial killer Jerome Brudos, perfectly matches your description, Mazzi. She married him at 17, quickly popped out a pair of children, never worked outside the home, didn’t have much of a social life, and whenever she was away, she had to call her husband to let him know when she would be returning. Oh, and he never let her into the basement unless he was with her.
He was murdering women down in the basement, chopping off their naughty bits and preserving them in plastic. His wife actually found one of his trophies and asked him about it, but when he told her it was only a paperweight, she was like, “Oh, okay.”
People are really not that complicated. Sure – the little individual quirks are slightly different, but people fall into general categories.
If you carry it further back, most of the men had a domineering parent, who maintained control over them, making them feel weak. (Although some might have had abusive, neglectful, addicts or prostitutes). To compensate, they (classic bully) find weak people to control themselves. And then, depending on which parent was the domineering one, they seek victims to control in retaliation of that parent. Either young vulnerable boys, or vulnerable women – old, young or druggie/prostitutes.
The wives almost always come from a home with a domineering, probably abusive father. (When the mom is the dominant one, the daughter learns to be dominant herself). The man finds this “whipped” girl and like the knight-in-shining-armor, sweeps her out of her house of horrors. And she will NEVER go back to that, if she can avoid it. But of course, she is completely unprepared to care for herself.
Anyway, when you put all the pieces of the puzzle together, you see that most of the POS scumbags on this site “fit”. They are either CREATING future monsters, or they are monsters themselves, in part because of the upbringing.
Fortunately, only a small percentage of these children actually grow up to be monsters. Most people have some mechanism in their spirit that allows them to break away from whatever horrors they lived through, and not perpetuate it.
I am truly and utterly horrified and disgusted. This is by far the worst thing I’ve ever read. Ever. How can any of these children (or adults now) ever function normally in society? Elisabeth is 42. 42!!! Just being molested since the age of 11 to 18 would have been enough to severely…alter your perception of the world (to put it mildly). Yes, they did learn to read. Elisabeth was incredibly strong and made it her personal mission to raise the children as normally as possible…which of course wasn’t really possible. BUT It probably helped her too, to have something to focus on, and by all accounts she loves her children very much, and probably did as much as possible protect them.
She also taught them to write, paint, and play, though their view of the world is incredibly skewed and they will probably need to be intensive counseling for many years.

This tale of pure real life evil and horror has been on my mind since the initail story broke. I have copied and pasted the below from varios websites, and in addition there is recent news that the asshole has been declared sane (although with a profound personality disorder) and fit for trial.
What angers me and adds on to my distrust in “the system” and justice is that the perpertrators seem to have 100% more rights than the victims, who really have none!!! Also I guess the Austrian legal system has a limitation as to how many charges can be brough forward in one case, and they’re now looking in to the one charge that allows for the longest sentencing: slavery.

She was forced to bear seven of his children, three of which were allowed to live with Fritzl and his wife in their upstairs apartment, while the other three were condemned to dwell in the dank cellar with their mother, never seeing the light of day until they were released by police on April 26.
The neonatologist’s report to the court said the baby was born with a “severe illness”, the symptoms of which were breathing problems, which were “clearly recognisable” as “life threatening” even to a layman, and were worsening by the hour, according to News.
“Josef Fritzl must have known that the child would die without adequate medical treatment,” the News reported the neonatologist as saying.
The breakthrough in the investigation means that, if the jury accepts the expert’s findings and declares Fritzl guilty of manslaughter, he could face a maximum sentence of lifetime imprisonment.
The charges are expected to be completed by the end of the autumn and the trial is to take place in November.

Prosecutors have been soliciting opinions on the slavery option, which would carry a longer prison sentence than the incarceration and incest charges he currently faces.
Fritzl also faces rape and manslaughter charges; however, the evidence supporting the charges is considered weak.
Austria’s slavery statute carries a 20-year prison sentence while incarceration, the strongest of the current charges, has a 10-year maximum.

VIENNA, Austria (AP) — An Austrian theater says it will stage a satiric soap opera centered around Josef Fritzl, a man who allegedly held his daughter captive for 24 years and fathered her seven children.
The 3raum-anatomietheater in Vienna says the show will be titled “Pension Fritzl” — German for “Fritzl’s Bed and Breakfast.” The theater says on its Web site the show will open Feb. 23.
The production’s director is Hubsi Kramar, a well-known Austrian standup comedian who raised eyebrows when he tried to attend Vienna’s Opera Ball dressed as Adolf Hitler.
Fritzl is expected to go on trial in March. He faces charges of murder, rape, incest, false imprisonment and enslavement.
