I believe If you take a life, you should have to have yours taken, you hear all those anti death penalty idiots chanting that it doesn't. Prevent murder, but i believe if someone has that thought in their mind "If i murder this person and im caught i'll be sentenced to death" Will make that person think very seriously about committing that crime. Also stop all that bullshit about appeals for the next ten to fifteen years, just execute the fucker's they give up their right to walk amongst society and breathe the same air as society when they make that choice to kill.

With cretins like this, we are all appalled and sickened that someone bright and beautiful was snuffed out by this evil piece of shit.

Again, yes, we have the bleeding heart shitheads saying that we should "understand" the bad guy. We should see his point of view.

No. We don't need to know anything more than they are broken, they cannot be fixed. The time to fix them would have been in the womb or shortly after birth. The diagnostic tools are still years in the future, but eventually they will come to find that there are those genetically different from the regular human being. Because their neurochemicals are in different quantities and in different proportions, their brain structures are developed differently. Environment? IF the parents recognize that there is a problem early enough on, and IF they can dedicate themselves to daily and constant behaviour modification, then the child may have a chance of growing up as a non-offending psychopath/sociopath.

However, the bottom line is that people are (in general) too freaking lazy to raise children properly -- period. No one bothers with civility lessons (the whole concept of please and thank you), nor are our children taught to respect themselves and respect others. There should be the basic lesson of do unto others as you would have them do to you, but even this is beyond today's society.

When children act up, parents are the first in line to screech that their little Johnny or little Janey are just perfect angels and nothing is ever their fault.

Bullshit.

The bottom line is that each and every one of us is given the freedom to choose our path in life and that gift is squandered when we try to shirk responsibility for the consequences of our choices/actions.

Sorry for the rant, but people like the Jer-man are just broken and dangerous. You wouldn't keep a dog suffering from rabies in a daycare centre, so why do liberals think I should make my world dangerous just to give some asshat a free pass to rape, rob and murder me or my loved ones? We need to start taking our world back from the criminals. There has to be a balance to the insanity we call the justice system.

Seriously, I think the first thing we need to do is kill all the lawyers.

You are dead on jono1. Glad to see somebody who can actually think with their mind instead of hot headed emotions. There is no type of rehabilitation and it's a cruel joke to think there is any system set up in our prisons that would allow this. How can you take a "Boy" with psychological problems and put him in prison for 18 years to be violated and beaten with no treatment availbable to him and turn him lose 18 years later with no training, no skills, etc. He didn't even have the ability to use the ATM because he was never shown or taught. Sometimes, there are no explanations. If you put a child in prison then expect a monster to be created. He asked for the death penalty himself because he knows the weight and pain he has caused and it's the only way to give some kind of justice to the Souers' family. As far as the tattoo's, those were to cover several suicide attempts he has previously tried to commit. Sometimes the guards are the ones out to get you, not other prisoners. There are no quick fix people. God can change anything in anyone at anytime. We shouldn't put all our faith in other men.

So, he committed some crimes as a teenager. Did the system try to rehabilitate him? No, because our system no longer attempts to rehabilitate, and hasn't for decades. Mostly this is because the system has been hijacked by people who think that criminals should only be punished and rehabilitation isn't even worth trying. I give you 100% certainty that if this man had been treated and shown if not compassion than at least some sensitivity when he was a teenaged offender, that young woman would still be alive. Instead, our system locked up a teenager in an adult prison for an adult-length sentence and didn't even pay lip service to getting him psychological help, an education, or job training (even lip service went out the window sometime in the late 90s.) He gets out of jail, probably after spending years getting raped and indoctrinated to hate authority even more than he already did, and - surprise! he offends again! How far down the rabbit hole do we have to get before we start fixing things?

He was in the American prison system for 18 years, which is overcrowded, has absolutely no appreciable rehabilitation services whatsoever, fosters a culture where criminals simply learn to become better criminals, and has very little support for long-term inmates once they're released, who can't get a job anywhere since no one will hire a felon.

So pointing at this man (and don't get me wrong, I agree he deserves to fry) and screeching about how "scum like this can't be rehabilitated," when society put forth precisely 0 effort at rehabilitation in the first place, is just stupid.
