Hi Jermaine!
Jermaine Canada is a father of two boys – one age six and the other age two. Beyond that, it all depends on who you ask as to what kind of a person Jermaine is.
If you ask his family, you’ll hear Jermaine Canada described as someone who suffers from mental problems and has had a few scrapes with the law but is otherwise a loving person.
If you ask the Arizona Department of Corrections, they’ll tell you Jermaine Canada was on supervised release from prison after being convicted of and serving time for a weapons charge. Jermaine also had arrests for burglary, robbery, assault and drug charges. He was viewed as a good candidate to re-offend upon his release.
All in all, two very different portraits of our friend Jermaine.
After his latest crime however, there is agreement on both sides about one thing: Jermaine Canada is one sick son of a bitch when it comes to his idea of father and son bonding.
It was about two in the morning in Phoenix, Arizona and sixty two year old Inder Jit Jassal was working the night shift. As anyone who works the night shift in rough parts of town can tell you, they are seriously underpaid for the risks they face after dark. Night clerks have to contend with thieves, shoplifters, robbers, gang-bangers, and drunks.
So when Inder Jit Jassal saw Jermaine Canada walk into the store with a two-year-old in his arms and a six-year-old following him, Inder probably felt relieved for a change. A father with two kids in tow can’t be dangerous. After all, what would he do in front of his kids? Unfortunately for Inder, he was about to find out. And it would all be caught on tape.
As the cameras were rolling, Jermaine Canada approaches the counter where Inder Jit Jassal is working and engages in conversation with him. After exchanging a few words, Jermaine produced a gun and shot Inder to death.
And where exactly were Jermaine’s kids during all of this? Well, the six-year-old was right behind dad and saw his father gun another man down in cold blood. His two-year-old son got an even better view – while Jermaine’s one hand was holding the gun, his other one was holding on to his son.
Yes you read that right, Jermaine Canada murdered Inder while holding his toddler son in his arms.
After the shooting, Jermaine Canada’s six-year-old told his dad they had to leave. Great values you’re teaching your kids there Jermaine.
So, listening to his son’s advice, after killing Inder, Jermaine fled the store, his kids in tow. While he might have thought at the time that he made a clean getaway, a pesky security camera got a perfect image of what Jermaine looked like, what he was wearing, and the fact he brought his kids along with him.
Less than seven hours after the murder, Jermaine Canada was in custody.
Jermaine Canada asked the officers who arrested him to make sure the children were returned to their mother. A few hours late and a psychologically-scarring dollar short there Jermaine.
As for the motive, well, police haven’t been able to come up with one. There was nothing to indicate that this was a robbery or hate crime. From all appearances, Jermaine was talking to Inder and then decided to kill him just for the hell of it – while both of his sons watched no less.
The family of Inder Jit Jassal is trying to get visas so they can bring their loved one’s body back to India to mourn and bury him. His nephew is continuing to run the store but without his uncle to help him.
Jermaine’s sons are now in the care of their mother, who will probably end up going broke paying for their therapy for the next few decades.
As for Jermaine himself, he is being held on charges of first degree murder, weapons misconduct and generally for being an evil bastard that traumatized his kids for life.
I suppose the next time you get annoyed because somebody had to bring their annoying kids to your late night horror flick or your favorite restaurant, just keep in mind that there are worse places they could be bringing their kids to.

Wow, I dont know what to say.. I just hope the mother is a better role model than he is.. You know if she messed around with someone like him and had to kids by him, she cant be much better.
Man, all my dad did was play baseball with me …. why couldn’t he kill someone in front of me? That guy must have loved his kids….

I used to love it when my dad would take me to work with him, or we’d go golfing, or fishing. Aaaahhh, good times, good times. No one can take my memories.
I hope to continue making memories with my son too. It’s great having him in my life.

I agree, maybe Dad was upset that he had to carry the little one because he (the 2 year old) was so tired and the 6 year old was over-tired and cranky. Maybe Inder said something inorder to stop the father from doing something drastic to the kids – like another slap or whatever.
BUT this guy is god, so someone must pay for disobedience, so he shot Indar.
At any point this guy deserves an express trip.

Somehow I doubt the mom will go broke paying for therapy. Women who have kids with thugs like him aren’t the most likely to give a fuck about their kids.

I have heard it suggested that some people should have to get a licence before they are allowed to have children. Pity it cant be enforced.

I agree with Mazzi, the whole “therapy” and kids being traumatized part, I sadly think is far from true.
They will receive therapy provided by the state however most of the focus will be wasted on making sure the mom is providing a good life for the children (she should already have it together). Rather then investing it teaching the kids this is wrong and “Daddy is not well in the head”. And to understand how “doing bad things can hurt people” (this is the level you have to teach kids).
Instead they will be future inmates on the yard. They have already learned to keep composure during a brutal murder. “Daddy, we need to get out over here.” ?? That’s pretty calm for a 6 year old.
The best thing they can do within their capacity and budget is to tell the teachers who these kids are and what they have been through. Teachers have the most influence outside of the home at this age. (they are usually awesome with kids like this, and are used to it). After they leave school it is all down hill from there. These types of kids can not afford to be highschool drop outs like some of us. School in most of these sad cases are the only things kids can have.
Yep, if you ever have a teacher from a less fortunate neighborhood move to your kids shcool you might be in luck. (not being sarcasstic) They are incredible they handle 30 of these kids with worse stories then this. Sadly they get paid the lowest.
Yes, more.. I can not remember who it was.. I believe Mazzi said to share an ideas I had on saving the world and changing the system. It is to totally volunteer doing anything to help the kids not become POS like their dads. Most of the therapists are volunteers. I admit not everyone is the type, however you an still drop off a Christmas tree, clothes for confidence, video games (actually are better then the streets), guitars, basket balls… There is a shit load of stuff you can do to save the world. These kids are going to run our planet soon.

I agree about the jumping to conclusions about the mom. Right now we are not even sure if this guy was in fact a gang banger training his kids. I have never even heard of this ever happening before with any gang.. Period. He may really be mental. Hmmm? I don’t know though. That rap sheet screams “THUG”. He’s a mental thug. That’s fo sho! Hello, I happen to know Jermaine, did YOU talk with friends and family of Jermaine? Who are you to judge? Are you God? I was surprised to find out that Jermaine commited this crime, he really is not the type of person to kill someone. Yeah he’s been in trouble with the law. Nothing like strong armed robbery or drugs. I feel that he should be punished for what he did, lock him up and keep him there for many years. Meth is a hell of a drug, it cause people to do things that they wouldn’t do sober. It wasn’t a crime of passion, it was him being stupid and high on dope.

My bad about the ” out of prison less than 24 hours ” His offical release for his 3 year stint was suppose to be 08/12/2008, (but thats 8 days after the shooting.) with a max end date of 08/03/2008 (a day before the shooting.)
One newspaper said :
“He was released in December 2007 and was under supervised released at the time of his arrest”
What ever his release date was he was still suppose to be supervised and that means drug tests and a P.O. checking up on him. It doesnt sound like someone was doing a very good job at it.

Jermaine appears to have been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. Additionally, he was in violation of his parole when he committed this murder in the first place. Since that factoid will be brought up at his next parole hearing, in 25 years, I think you may be waiting a little bit longer for your “brother”? Is he your brother? Significant other? Cousin?
