On the 12th of June, 1999, when a 15-year-old girl named Sharmini Anandavel disappeared, a neighbor of hers – Stanley Tippett – stood out as a suspect in the eyes of the police. Sharmini had driven off to start her first day at a new job with a telemarketing company. She told her parents that Stanley, that friendly guy who often took her and other kids swimming, had given her an application for the job. When she didn’t return home that night, her mother went to Stanley’s apartment to see if he knew where her new job was – but Stanley was gone. He had moved out of the apartment two weeks prior.

Say hello to 64-year-old Arthur Morley from England.

Arthur Morley is one of the people that makes Europeans wish they still had the death penalty and whose case should have been viewed by the Supreme Court before they outlawed the death penalty against child predators. Because as pedophiles go, they don’t come much worse than Arthur.

By the time most people reach the age of 64, they’re looking forward to retirement after years of working hard, building families and saving enough money to do things when they do retire, Arthur was still busy adding things to his resume – a resume that included rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault against children.

Is it possible for an entire family to be made up of individuals whose best traits would be normally be considered character flaws?

It’s possible.

Take the family of 26-year-old Jon Phillips and his 22-year-old common-law wife Sarah Berry, for instance. At best, they could be described as incompetent parents. At worst…

Evil.

Jon Phillips was the guardian of 7-year-old Chandler Grafner. Chandler was given into “Daddy Jon’s” custody after Chandler’s mother was arrested during a traffic stop on the 26th of March, 2007, for possessing drug paraphernalia. During that traffic stop, Chandler’s mom, who used to be in a relationship with Jon Phillips, had her sons in the back seat. According to the officer who made the arrest, both boys looked very thin and complained of being hungry. In the officer’s report, he wrote that the boys had told him they hadn’t eaten in three days.

Jails tend to be rather light on the entertainment options for inmates. Working in a jail as I do, I see firsthand the trouble that inmates can get into when they’re left to their own devices with nothing to do. It’s not unheard of for an inmate to come in on a burglary charge and end up with three felony charges of assault on a confined person.

In fact, the boredom and the “holding tank” mentality is one of the major reasons why so many inmates want their trial to be over with – often pleading guilty – so they can leave the jail environment and start serving their time in prison with their friends, good food and their own television.

This is 22-year-old James Chester.

James Chester is a pedophile who happens to look quite young himself. This look of Chester’s creates all kind of opportunities for mischief for himself and grief for other people.

In what could only be described as a pedophile’s wet dream, when he was 19, James Chester managed to fool a school admissions officer – using a doctored birth certificate that stated he was 16 to enroll himself at St. Edmund’s Catholic School in Portsmouth, England. James Chester’s major slip was to put himself in classes with 14-year-olds, claiming that he needed to catch up on missed schoolwork. Still, James managed to stay in those classes for three weeks before school officials called police with their suspicions.
