  • Virgil Kosmicki and Patricia Sanford

Virgil KosmickiThis is 46-year-old Virgil Kosmicki, who has been arrested numerous times in Arizona for drug offenses, once for aggravated assault and a few times for weapons violations.

    Virgil likes methamphetamine.

    He likes it a lot.

In 2007, Virgil Kosmicki and Patricia Sanford devised a plan to get some meth, and on the 6th of September, 2007, they put that plan into action.

That was the day that Patricia Sanford picked up then-5-year-old Jade Dunn from school. Patricia Sanford was on a contact list of people whom the school could release the child, but nobody had asked her or given permission to her to pick up the child that day.

Jade Dunn was Virgil Kosmicki’s ex-stepdaughter - with an emphasis on the ex. He really had no claim to her at all.

Still, Patricia followed the plan, and after picking up the child, brought the girl to Virgil Kosmicki, who then drove off with the girl to Aurora, Colorado.

Jennifer Dunn, after realizing that her child was not where she should be, contacted police - who started to look for Jade Dunn.

A few days later, on the 16th of September, 2007, Patricia Sanford contacted Jade Dunn’s grandmother via text message. Ms. Sanford let the grandmother know that Jade had been taken out of Arizona, that Virgil Kosmicki had her and that he would return the girl in exchange for something.

At first, the Dunn family told the FBI that Virgil Kosmicki wanted 2 ounces of methamphetamine in exchange for the return of Jade. Later, they retracted that story and told the authorities that he just wanted money. Still later, they told police that Virgil Kosmicki just wanted to get the mom up to Aurora and thought that if he had the child there that the mother would eventually show up.

    Meth use creates geniuses, folks.

The FBI took data about the case and fed it to one of their analysts, who ran that data through a computer program and looked for patterns. The resulting analysis indicated that the child was being held in a house in Aurora, Colorado.

The Mohave County, Arizona sheriff’s department and the Denver FBI contacted Aurora police and asked them to look for Virgil Kosmicki at the home. A quick drive and a glance at the property resulted in police identifying Virgil in the garage of the home.

After arresting and searching Virgil Kosmicki, police found - ta da! - methamphetamines on him.

    Of course.

Jade Dunn was also present in the house. There were other people living there, but they had no idea that Virgil had kidnapped the girl. They also had no idea that - gasp! - he had meth.

If you believe all that, I have a bridge I’d like to sell you.

Virgil Kosmicki has friends out there on the Internet, however. As found on MyFoxTampaBay, several people have come forward to cast a few stones in the opposite direction as the official investigation:

If you think looks can kill what do you think wrongly reported comments and articles can do. How would you look if you were being accused of trying to trade your daughter whom you love very much and are trying to take care of because her mother and grandmother are both in jail for drugs. Just because a person does drugs doesn’t mean they love their kids any less than the rest of the people that don’t do them. Now this man looks like some kind of monster to the whole world because Jade’s grandmother is a liar and was mad at Virgil because he left her behind because she was in jail.

finely someone who speaks the truth although virgil may have a slight drug problem he would give his own life for jade he loves her! he is the only daddy jade knows and has been the only one responsible for providing her with all lifes needs food shelter toys ect while her mother does nothing well except meth!!!! the grandma better get her story straight wasnt that interstate drug trafficing? well untill the fbi busts her then she makes up this huge lie about virgil trading jade back for 2oz. she was delivering 2oz and picking jade up too bad she would rather lie sending the person who has been there for her as well $ a place to live her own drug habit being well fed.sell out virgil has a lot of people who love him and just might want toeven up the score id leave kingman if i were you jeanne!!

for all of you people making bad comments about virgil, maybe you should know more than what the news tells you before you comment with your “holyer than thou” opinions.i have known this family for a long time, and virgil is a good man, and the only father that jade has ever known! he did not kidnap her!the mother was in jail, the grandmother was in jail for trying to get contraband into the jail for her daughter! virgil was only taking jade to live, in what he thought was a better place, than kingman, arizona. there is no way that virgil demanded meth for jade. he was taking care of her, like he always has! virgil loves jade, and jade loves virgil! i cannot believe that jennifer pretended not to know that jade was in safe hands! considering the many times that jennifer left jade with virgil for days at a time, without a care. virgil has always been ther for jade when nobody else was. that is why he had her with him, not because he kidnapped her! the news storys are all making virgil out to be some kind of monster! when all he did was, what hes been doing all along,.. looking out for his daughter jade! so before any of you people decide to trash on virgil, think about this, whos gonna take care of jade now? the system? the poor little girl, has been through hell! now the one person she counted on is being wrongly accused, and locked up for being a dad!! you tell me the justice in that?

Virgil Kosmicki was charged with possession of methamphetamine. We’re still trying to determine if he has been charged with kidnapping. We’ve called a number of agencies and are waiting for a response. Nothing yet.

had finger on “yes”, but retracted it…..
what was the state the girl was in? was she in panic, or did she have little problems with the situation she was in? ok, “dad” is a meth head, that alone would almost be enough to qualify for hell, but i guess he’s in his own hell anyway.
i just don’t know to be honest. did he indeed want to trade the girl for meth? if the rest of the family is into drugs as well, who knows who’s telling the truth?
i just feel really sorry for the girl, what a fucked up family.

admin - And that, sir, is why we allow people to vote.

Virgil was the X-stepdad, there is NO blood relation. Matbe while he was the stepdad he was a caring person, but many people can not get overthe X in their new title and it sounded like as an X he stopped caring.
I still send my X step children a few dollars on their birthdays and Christmas - just because I divorced their mother does not mean I do not care about them.
But as an X, I have NO say in their lives anymore - it’s just that simple.

Virgil does not know his place - it’s not like his intent was to rescue the girl from a bad situation,

I do not get how Patricia Sanford fits into the picture, but she better fit into a jail cell with Virgil.

This guy and girl deserve the max, else thay will try some stunt again because they do not care about anything but themselves and their next hit.

I have to say just because there is an ex in front of step dad, does not mean that he is no longer a father to that girl.. My “ex” step dad helped raise me well after him and my mother split up.. He was the only father my brother and I had..

As far as who voting for hell.. I couldnt.. I do know newspapers get facts wrong and they tend to throw in tidbits that’s not true..

So far all is known is the man has been charged with possession of methamphetamine… Nobody knows if he has been charged with Kidnapping also.. If he doesnt get charged with kidnapping, then it does not look as if that story is full of truth.. If he actually took the girl he would be charged with kidnapping..

Wow. This one’s a complicated mess.
I grew up in a Meth addicted family. ENTIRE family. Myself am a former addict. Age 12-20, wasted away.
I know how this kinda story goes. He might have done exactly what the story implies, kidnapping, and extortion. Very possible.
It is also just as likely that the other side is true. The mother and grandmother in jail on dope charges. Making a “delivery” of 2 oz, now claiming extortion to get out of new charges.
The Meth world is completely detached from the real world. Having been in that world up to my neck, I am actually leaning more towards the story of the “friends”. I’m not saying he is in any way a good father figure for that kid. Unfortunate as it is, though, he might very well have been the best parental role model that kid had. And that’s the most fucked up part of it all.
Save the kid, throw away the rest. The Mom, Grandma, Step-Dad, the woman who picked her up from school. Off with their head’s!

This is very complicated. While i agree that being an ex does not stop you from caring for a child you once helped raise, i also know that legally he has no claim over the child.
If as he claims, the mother and grandmother were in jail and he was concerned for the child, he should have contacted the revelant authorities. But he took it on himself to take the child and didnt think to let anyone know where he was taking her to or why.
If the other story is true and he did kidnap her with the intent of trading her for drugs, then i think he is scum and deserves the maximum sentence.
I just dont think there is enough info available to make a vote for hell. Like DuelDenz im wondering if the child was in a distressed state throughout the whole thing.
I think the POS gets a vote for being utterly and irrasponsibly stupid, but im just not sure about hell.

      Well lets see:

He used a person to commit a crime. He took a girl away from her family. He oppressed the mother. He crossed state lines with a girl he has no legal right to. He was busted with meth, an illegal substance.

Pretty damn simple to me. Shave his head, castrate hum wit a dull rusty knife, seal the wound with the same knife heated red hot and then hang him.

Maybe since meth seems to be floating around within this family so much, as well as prison time, and what not. Maybe it’s best this little girl be completely removed from this meth crazed family and into the arms of two loving, drug free, prison free people

Granny changing the story makes me go Hmmmmmmm. . .

I don’t think the dude needs hell and I would also be curious to know the kids side of things. It IS true that not all people that do drugs are pieces of shit parents (tho mom and granny seem to have been on that track).

I may have to set up Google alerts and watch what happens with this one.

Let’s look at this for a moment:

This individual is being called her father by people online in an attempt to defend him, but he is NOT HER FATHER. He is her ex-stepfather and a Methhead. Now if I’m correct Meth is a horrible drug that is all consuming of the user.

He removed her from the State of Arizona without permission and transported her across multiple state lines.

He contacted the Grandmother and wanted something for her. Obviously the FBI got the text messages, that’s how they found her. GPS off the cell phone signal, this is what they mean by data. It doesn’t matter what Grandma said, the FBI knows what he said in those text messages. Can Admin locate that information?

Now, this guy is not a father, not even close. He’s a junkie and a kidnapper. He is not a role model for this child. I am sad to say that this young lady will be much better off away from her family than with it.

      psanford,
“Just because a person does drugs doesn’t mean they love their kids any less than the rest of the people that don’t do them. ”
That is exactly what it means. If you love your kids enough, you give up certain things, drugs, money, sanity, privacy, the list goes on.

      [Reply]

The Danger Zone reply on September 25th, 2008:

Yes Penny, if you love them enough you give up those things. Therefore if you truly love your kids and want the best for them, then you knock off the drugs. Instead you invest that money into securing a positive now and then for you your children.

Unfortunately, addicts always somehow arrive at the conclusion their money must be spent on drugs first. Clothes, food and shelter always seem to never quite make the list when addictions are on it.

THIS IS WHY ADDICTS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAVE CHILDREN, AND IF THEY DO THE CHILDREN SHOULD BE TAKEN AWAY AS SOON AS THEY ARE BORN OR IT IS DISCOVERED A PARENT IS AN ADDICT. ZERO TOLERANCE ON THIS WOULD BE A GREAT IDEA.

The kidnapping accomplice / coconspirator and known meth head Patricia Sanford and Virgil Kosmicki’s brother Toni Kosmicki are posting more comments about poor Virgil. Toni at least admits to Virgil being addicted to meth most of his life. ( kind of a bit more than a “slight drug problem.” if you ask me but hey, I don’t do meth, so what do I know) Toni also mentions Virgil’s time in prison and how mean the state was. Patti just does her usual meth stained finger pointing at granny and Jennifer. All 4 of them have rap sheets as long as your arm ( See next post.)

      ++++++++++++
First of all what they are doing to him is very cruel. They should let everyone know that he has been taking care of her since her mother went to jail for the very same thing that they are charging him for. How creditable is the grandma to be giving information to authorities when she was also in jail at the time for distributing contraband to a correctional faculity for her daughter. They should concerned the source which they got their information from before publically broadcasting it.

he is my brother and he would of never kidnapped jade he was married to jen and he loved jade as his own daughter.
her grandmother and mother are lying this is very unfair. yes my brother has been addicted to meth most of his life. but, he was never offered treatment only prison. he would of never asked them for meth or money. jen knew where she was. she was suppose to meet my brother when she got out of jail. she and her mother are both drug addicts. and should be charged with fraud to the FBI. THE NEWSPAPER NEEDS TO RETRACKEIR STORY IT IS FALSE.

One can hope she will not go back to her meth habit and she will spend lots of good quality time with Jade. (Hey I can dream ). She does have a rap sheet as long as your arm, but no real violence or child endangerment , like Virgil does. He seems to be the biggest dirtbag of all of them.

Can’t we adjust the law to the following:

If you are convicted of a drug charge you can not have custody, in any shape, manner or form, of children. Meth is a horid drug and the chances of her beating it and being a good mom are just astronomically against it. Why do we have to force this child to endure what we know will eventually happen when there are loving homes that will gladly give her a real chance at life?
