After an investigation by Federal, State and local law enforcement agencies, including the Portland Child Abuse Team, Mark Hoffman was arrested on the 12th of February, 2008 and federally indicted on charges of sexual exploitation of children and possession of child pornography. He has insisted that he is not guilty.
Mark Hoffman has also pled not guilty in state court to three counts of first-degree rape, three counts of first-degree sodomy, three counts of unlawful sexual penetration, 23 counts of first-degree sex abuse, 23 counts of using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct and 15 counts of encouraging child sex abuse.

Katherine Hoffman learned that her husband was having sex with her children back in 2005 but, unlike just about every other female on the civilized parts of the earth, she didn’t really have a problem with it. Really.
In fact, when her husband was arrested and she realized that she might lose the love of her life for a good long time if he was convicted, Katherine Hoffman tried to destroy her husband’s child porn collection to keep it out of the hands of the authorities.
Katherine Hoffman has been charged with hindering prosecution, tampering with evidence, four counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment and a count of second-degree encouraging child sex abuse. On the 12th of September, 2008, she pled not guilty to all charges.
The two children of Katherine and Mark Hoffman, now 4 and 5 years of age, have been put into state custody.

Those poor kids. I really hope it’s not too late for them to have some sort of normal childhood. No child should ever have to endure any kind of abuse, but from your parents, the people you are supposed to trust to protect you from all of the scum in the world, that just breaks my heart.

We have a local case where the guy killed a mom and her family (two girls). He choked the mom, hit the older girl with a blunt object (after raping her-she was 10, I think) and the littlest baby dies from smoke inhalation because he burned their house down. His DNA was found inside of the little girl he raped. And he is pleading not guilty-OK-again, WTF?

when me and my wife had our first child, we remember thinking how easy it was to leave the hospital, they had some videos to watch if we wanted, but unlike these people, we had a good idea of how children are to be cared for. unfortunately we did think it was easy, and that there should be some kind of parenting amplitude test or something. but they don’t do that. or this wouldn’t have happened to those poor kids.

Basically what we have to write is the Idiot’s Guide To Bringing Home and Raising Your Newborn Infant. Take feeding for instance. We have to inform how often to feed the baby in a day (and yes, make sure the reader knows babies eat EVERY DAY), what to feed, and what to feed the food with. I mean, we’re dealing with some real dumbasses here, and if we take any knowledge for granted we could end up killing someone.
As dumb as it sounds, someone seriously needs to write that book and it needs to be studied either at school or in classes at the hospital before the babies are discharged. Maybe a pre natal parenting course that is compulsory, should be implimented at all hospitals.

I’m no rocket scientist, but after carrying each of my children for 9 months, as most mothers do, I was able to figure out that I had an interest in keeping those children alive and unharmed.
No more ‘three strikes’ for child abusers/murderers. One strike. Get convicted of sexual/physical abuse or infanticide, get your balls whacked or your uterus cut out and shoved down your throat so that when you get released early for good behaviour you can’t pop out another child to abuse. Immediate execution would do the trick, but it’s obvious that’s too much to ask for.
How much should I bet on a defense of ‘I can’t help it, I was abused as a child myself’, or ‘I had no choice because I was being abused by spouse/abuser also’?

I am so sick of “not guilty.” I get so tired of people, in the face of overwhelming evidence, just saying, “Nope, not me.” Sure, there are people who turn out to be innocent despite compelling evidence that would suggest otherwise. That must be a horrible thing to go through. To know you are innocent of the charges but see more and more strong evidence pile up against you. It would be a Kafka-esque nightmare. But then you have the people who know what they did, know it’s repugnant, know they’re guilty as it is possible to be, and yet still say, “Nope, you got the wrong person.” Beyond soulless.
