This is José Gutierrez Sanchez. In many ways, José is a typical young 27-year-old American male. He enjoys a good pickup game of B-Ball, and what can be better than a few ice cold beers after the game? This scenario of competition and male bonding has probably been going on since man became civilized. The group broke up in the late evening, and Jose’ returned home to his apartment, where his 2 month old daughter and her mother resided with him.
After a quick shower, Sanchez went into the Bedroom to lie down on the bed. A few minutes later his girlfriend came into the room and placed the baby down next to him and left for a few minutes. 15 minutes later she returned and saw the baby lying in a pool of blood in the middle of the bed. She began screaming, “My Baby! My Baby! Jose’ Sanchez jumped up and split the apartment like his ass was on fire and his head was catching.
The mother took the baby to Columbia Memorial Hospital. Dr. Susan Heineck was treating another patient in the emergency room, but because of the baby’s piercing cry she came over immediately to treat Baby Sanchez.
This next part is very painful and difficult read if you care at all for small children, animals, or any other kind of helpless creature. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
Ken Jones, a criminalist with the Portland Police, who was in the operating room to photograph the injuries to the child, related the shocking details. He said the child’s tongue was ripped loose from the base of the mouth clear back to her tonsils, and partially torn. Her lower jawbone was showing through an open wound on the inside of her mouth. The sides of her mouth were torn open like somebody had forced something too large inside.
Jones said the outward-direction of the injuries looked as if somebody had stuck their hand inside the child’s mouth, grabbed her lower jaw and forcefully yanked it down. Surgeons described the injuries to the baby as “horrendous.” The tissue was so torn, in some places there wasn’t material for stitches, she said.
In other word, Jose tried to jam his man-size fist into his two month old daughter’s tiny mouth in order to (for reasons known only to Jose’) tear her tongue out of her mouth.
José Gutierrez Sanchez turned himself in after being on the run for 4 days and he was immediately charged with First Degree Assault.
Trial Began in Tuesday, October 21st, 2008. Sanchez’s attorney, John Orr, of Astoria, argued in closing arguments that the injuries occurred when Sanchez twitched in his sleep, accidentally ramming the baby’s pacifier into her mouth with his elbow and knocking her off the bed onto a pile of shoes on the floor. Orr argued that the hard edges of the pacifier cut the baby’s mouth.
And you thought lawyers didn’t have a sense of humor. You gotta admit, that’s a ridiculously funny load of crap in the previous paragraph, don’t you think?
The baby endured two surgeries. Dr. Carol MacArther, a specialist in head and neck surgeries, performed one. Dr. Anna Kuang, who specializes in plastic and reconstructive surgeries, performed the other. For three weeks, the baby had a steel restraints attached through her cheeks.
The surgeons described the injuries to the baby as “horrendous.” The damage to the baby’s jaw was so bad in some places that there wasn’t enough skin and muscle to properly stitch it back together.
On Friday, October 27th, 2008 the Clatsop County jury convicted José Gutierrez Sanchez, and finally, on Tuesday, October 28th, Circuit Court Judge Philip Nelson sentenced Sanchez to 7 1/2 years in prison for the horrendous First Degree assault of his 2 month old daughter.
“I can’t imagine how anybody could cause on any child that kind of injury,” Judge Nelson said. “If I could give you a longer sentence, I would.”

There’s no knowing if the baby will make a full recovery or not. Doctors predict there’s a good chance for residual numbness and nerve damage to her face and mouth
I have no clue why this son of a bitch did this to his own flesh and blood. Why would he jam his huge fist into that poor little baby’s tiny mouth, for no other reason than what appears to be to rip her tongue out. Is it just pure evil that possessed this man’s mind, or was it something as stupid as him being a little drunk and wanting to get to sleep? Last weekend my neighbours two year old daughter drowned in a fish pond.
The grief that this man is going through rubs off on me and i cant go through the day without having a tear for him, his family, his daughter… i have spoken to him at length, and he has said that if he could do anything that could bring her back, that if he could turn back the clock and be there to protect her, then he would. His loss and pain cannot be put into words.
And then i read this, and about how a man so easily could do such damage to his child.
He does not deserve such a privelage and joy as fatherhood. He does not even deserve to live.
I agree with you Amy. This story really broke my heart. It hurts me to know that there are that kind of animals out there in this world.
And there are so many of them. I looked at a web site today dedicated to children who had dies through abuse. There were literally hundreds of them. All so beautiful.

I am not very squeamish about injuries. I work in EMS and see lots of gory stuff, but this made me shiver. That poor baby. I wish the judge could have put this guy in jail for longer… Baddie, my mind went there too, but I doubt a pathetic piece of shit like Jose here was packing something capable of causing that much damage. Yes, I am comparing them to each other because of their race, but hear me out. I am usually totally against stereotyping, especially when it comes to race, BUT in my opinion this guy is no different then that guy.

I disagree with the comparisons. Mexicans are different from Americans, and they often have different roles for women and children, but that does not mean that a crazy Mexican is more barbaric than a crazy American especially when you’re basing that comparison only on hyperbole that you’ve read on a website like this. You have no idea what this man’s ideas about women and children are, or where he got them. The idea that Mexican crazies think even less of their victims than non-immigrant(?) crazies doesn’t make sense. Sociopaths see their victims as worthless, regardless of culture.

This sick fucker did something truly disgusting, it’s not a “Mexican style” crime, it’s just a crime. I read all of the stories you’re comparing this to, and they aren’t similar to me at all. My heart goes out not only to the baby but that poor mother that had to see her child injured in that way. The fact that he got 7 1/2 years to me is disgusting. You seem to have missed the number one reason here, whiteiris. He’s NOT MEXICAN. Based only on the fact that Astoria is mentioned, it sounds like he’s from Queens, NY, where I used to live. Just because he’s got a Spanish name doesn’t mean he wasn’t born and raised in the U.S. with American values.
You compared a guy who kicked his baby long after he was dead in an uncontrollable fit and this guy who had a burst of rage and then fled because he knew he did something wrong. Those are two very different situations, with different causes (I think the baby kicker was psychotic and this guy isn’t in the strictest sense) and different outcomes. Almost no one thinks they’re racist, but everyone stereotypes, it’s the brain’s automatic shorthand for us to understand the world. It’s when we rely on those stereotypes instead of really examining them that they get to be a problem. I’m not angry with you for thinking that way, in fact, I guess I’m glad you mentioned it, because you ARE thinking about it. But just because this reminded you of the other doesn’t mean it wasn’t a product of prejudicial thinking. Isn’t it possible that they were linked in your mind because he’s a brown guy with a Spanish name who hurt a baby? I don’t see other similarities. Keep it in perspective. This is a website full of baby killers from all origins, and the crimes are often just as heinous as this one. Mexico has more than a couple hundred microwaves, and that flippant tone doesn’t make you look better. It’s not just desert and donkeys. A sociopath is a sociopath, no concept of the suffering of others at all. They are made many different ways. It’s possible that Mexican sociopaths are different in some ways from others, because culture is a huge influence, so it’s an interesting question. I do not think that sociopaths will be more brutal coming from a culture with more traditional gender roles because there’s no empathy either way. It’s an interesting question, but I absolutely don’t think the cases you mentioned were related at all. Unless I missed something, once again your case is busted because he’s NOT MEXICAN. I’ve liked some of your posts on other threads (I like Kings of Leon, too. I think you mentioned them once), I just can’t let something like that go without dissenting.
