This is beautiful, blue eyed, Baby P, also known as “Child A ( 2 ). For legal reasons he can not be named at this time.
Baby P’s life began in a small council flat in Haringey, North London. His neglect was gradual, with his mother, Tracey Connolly, 25, leaving him unattended in his cot for hours on end.
She split with Baby P’s father when he was three months old. When her lover, Steven Barker, 31, moved in with them, Baby P’s suffering increased dramatically. While his mother was busy in online chat rooms, Barker was busy beating the boy, often swinging him around by the neck or legs and pinching him hard enough to leave bruises on his baby skin.
Barker forced Baby P to obey commands like a dog. He would click his fingers and the boy would have to sit with his head between his legs. Sometime later, Barker would again click his fingers, signaling to the child that he could sit upright again. Jason Owen, who stayed with the couple, also subjected the child to similar abuse. Owen is the creep in the photo next to Baby P. In addition to swinging the boy around he would also often sit him on a stool and spin him around until he fell to the floor.
After concerns were first voiced about Baby P’s welfare in October 2006, his mother, in the first of many lies and false reassurances, insisted that he was not abused, rather he “just bruised easily.” She claimed that Baby P was “a head banger” fond of “rough and tumble play.”
Barker claims that he wanted to, “toughen the boy up.”
The council flat where they lived was visited and was found to be dirty and smelling of urine. Baby P was removed from the home and placed with family members for a short time.
In January 2007, with no charges having been laid, Baby P was sent back to suffer even more abuse at the hands of Barker, Owen and Connolly. Baby P went without a decent meal more often than not and was often seen scrounging biscuits and food from other children and was even seen eating dirt in the garden.
The abuse escalated even more with the child being seen by medical professionals for numerous black eyes, swellings and bruising, “scalps rash,” and “ear discharge.”
Four days before his death, Maria Ward, his case worker visited the home of Baby P and says she was content to leave him with his mother as she was very cooperative and seemed to have a lot of support.
Days later, Baby P was examined at St Ann’s Hospital by Dr Sabah Al-Zayyat, a pediatrician. Somehow he failed to notice that the boy had a broken back, which is consistent with being slammed down over a bent knee or a banister, eight broken ribs and the more than 50 other horrific injuries that had been dealt to him over his short life. Some of these included, missing fingertips and nails and bite marks on his head. Two days later, sweet Baby P was dead after receiving a fatal blow to his mouth, knocking out one of his milk teeth.
After 17 months of pure agony, Baby P could endure no more. He died alone in his blood spattered cot.
While searching for some pictures of Steven, I stumbled upon these gems. I was already on edge from researching and editing this story, and Amy had done such a great job getting across the horror of Baby P’s death, that when I saw these God damned things It took all my self control to keep from bawling like a child. I’d felt as if I was set up.
And yes, those stains are blood.
The two men, Jason Owen, 35 and Steven Barker, 31 were found guilty of Causing or Allowing the Death of a Child in August 2007, with the toddlers mother Tracey Connolly, 25 also convicted of the same charge.
All three are due to be sentenced in December. They face up to fourteen years in prison. Somehow, to me, fourteen years seems like a rather short sentence. Short at the very least.
Those who should have, but failed to pick up on his abuse, namely, Maria Ward and Dr Sabah Al-Zayyat are in my opinion also hell worthy. I hope that one day soon I will be able to disclose Baby P’s name and he can finally rest in peace
UPDATE: While I was Googling Baby P in the process of editing and fact checking Amy’s story, I ran across this story in The News Of The World. Now correct me if I’m wrong all you folks across the pond. but isn’t this “newspaper” to the UK what The National Enquirer is to the United States? Well, I started reading a story about Baby P written by Carole Malone, and the more I read, the more outraged I became. Amy had made it clear in here original story how Child Services dropped the ball, and that Dr Sabah Al-Zayyat has earned herself more than an honorable mention on the roles of hell, but Ms Malone’s article got into the nitty gritty of the disaster that was Baby P’s Case File. To give you just a a little taste, the person in charge, Sharon Shoesmith, spent 6 months trying to cover the entire incident up. No harm, No foul I guess – to the Agency, that is. So here’s an excerpt from that article, along with pictures of all the principles:

…But of all the people who failed this gorgeous boy—apart from the monsters who actually killed him—the most negligent, the most self-serving, is head of Haringey’s Child Services Sharon Shoesmith.
Because while the rest of the country was reeling from what happened to Baby P, this arrogant woman called a press conference and waved graphs in our faces about how well her department had performed.
Incompetence
Did this apology for a boss really believe that if she put on a sad face for the TV cameras she’d get away with this? Did she believe those graphs would be enough to satisfy an angry, repulsed nation and detract from her mind- boggling incompetence?
Time and again she was given the chance to apologise but she didn’t. Haringey council did (finally) but not Sharon Shoesmith. Because she knows an admission of guilt would require her resignation—and nothing is worth that, is it Mrs Shoesmith?
Not with her cushy little number—with a £110,000 salary, posh days out at the races (paid for by grateful business contacts) and her power.
This is the power that allowed her to refuse a review into Haringey’s social services department six months after Baby P’s death. The same power that allowed her to rule there had been no negligence by the council or its social workers. And I’m sick to death of people saying it wasn’t the social workers who killed Baby P, it was the degenerates who lived with him in that rat-infested hole. Yes, they kicked the last breath out of him but they’re scum—retards incapable of feeling guilt, love or compassion.
AbuseBut those social workers were supposed to be better than that, professionals who were trained to spot the early signs of abuse. It was their job, their human duty to protect vulnerable children.
We presumed (wrongly) that they were more intelligent than Baby P’s killers, which is why we expected Maria Ward on one of the 60 times Baby P was visited to insist his mother washed chocolate off his face so she could inspect him for bruises.
And why, knowing the history, didn’t she demand to check his body for injuries? She knows full well that scumbags like these killers routinely lie and cheat. But more sickening is that these social workers and executives did a better job at covering their own miserable backsides than did at saving a little boy’s life.
Which is why they ARE ultimately responsible for his death. They didn’t strike the blow that killed him—but they stood by and did nothing while those three vicious bastards awaiting sentence did.
And forget all this guff about how social workers can be duped by wily parents. ANYONE with half as brain could have walked into that house and seen Baby P was in danger.
I don’t give a toss how low their wages are, how hard their job is or how understaffed they are. A vulnerable baby’s life was in danger and they left him to die out of stupidity, ignorance or because they just didn’t care enough.
And if these social workers and their bosses can’t spot a child four days from death then they’re not just in the wrong job—they’re dangerous as well.
Maybe Maria Ward, Sharon Shoesmith and Gillie Christou, the idiot in charge of the council’s child protection register, just don’t put saving babies’ lives high enough up their agenda. And maybe Dr Sabah Al Zayyat, who missed the fact this little lad had a broken spine and multiple injuries, had also written him off—though I suspect she was just a lazy cow.
ALL of these people should be sacked. Because anyone who decides to go into social work either as a worker or a boss MUST assume the responsibilities of the job.
You don’t brandish graphs. You don’t hide behind the “stress of form-filling”.
Part of the job is looking after defenceless kids, and if you’re not prepared to do that then shove off and go stack shelves in Tesco.
And forget the excuse that there are procedures to be followed before a child is removed from its family.

Moreover social services know full well that some families are simply sub-human dross who shouldn’t be allowed near kids.
And that’s what we have to address now—this underclass, this group of deviants who’ve been allowed to take root in this country and who kill, maim and torture without guilt.
These are people who have sponged off the welfare state their whole lives and who believe nothing is their responsibility, their fault or their problem.
For too long we’ve tap-danced around these people because of political correctness. The problem was too sensitive to talk about—let alone handle. But handle it we must, because if we don’t this underclass will become even more savage, more feral—and more innocents will die.
Baby P’s mother is so unaware of the gravity of what she’s done she’s telling people she’ll be home for Christmas with the baby she gave birth to in prison.
Which is why all three responsible for killing Baby P MUST get the maximum of 14 years. Because if they don’t, as a society we’re saying his suffering and his death were for nothing.
And Ed Balls needs to stick his inquiry where the sun don’t shine because four ministers in his government knew about the situation that led to Baby Ps death two years ago, and they did nothing.
Inquiries don’t save children’s lives. Direct action just might. So every executive, every social worker involved in this tragedy must not just pay but must be prevented from ever being responsible for children ever again.
These social workers and executives at Haringey behaved the way they did because they believed there’d be no consequences for their negligence, and they assumed this government didn’t have the guts to take them on.
Well, that has to change. And in order to enforce that change, Sharon Shoesmith has to go. Gillie Christou has to go. Maria Ward has to go. As have those idiot Ofsted inspectors who gave Shoesmith a glowing report just weeks after Baby P’s death.
As for that excuse for a doctor—Sabah Al Zayatt—she needs to be struck off immediately before any more kids die.

How… can a doctor miss injuries like this? I can understand hairline fractures being missed, but the way this back injury was described, this should have been noticed! I guess the people involved just didn’t care enough. It saddens me so much when I hear of these children being left with obviously abusive, neglectful parents over and over again by their worthless case workers. This story killed me a little. People who can do this to children deserve no less than a slow, painful death. Great write up Amy. Thanks to all you guys who have been keeping the fresh stories coming. You figure, “hey, ill write a story and help out a little,” but nothing prepares you for the overwhelming saddness and anger that you feel while trawling though document after document.
What struck me the most about all this, is that his mum and her buddies took away all his rights and then the courts took away his identity. There is some speculation that his name is Peter, but its just speculation. It would mean so much to know this childs name and to know that he will never be forgotten.
Can we send the criminals to Saudi Arabia for justice? I dearly want that.

These people should be punished the same way as how they do it in Saudi Arabia in UK. These are abnormal humans who are occupying space in this world. They are to be given a death where every one in UK and around the world should witness it as it will be an example to other people too. What if they come out of prison and perform the same act in future, you never know and to be doing this to a kid who can barely walk or talk, they should be given a death penalty.

I know what you are saying Tom. My mother taught me “Two wrongs don’t make a right”. Imagine what kind of a world we would have if people could legally kill someone for wronging them. It would escalate to “He smashed my car headlight with his shopping trolley so I stabbed him to death.”

Personally I hate Saudi Arabia, which is an embarrassment to Islam, and I’m an Arab but reading PYSIH’s horror stories, the low crime rate in Saudi Arabia means that that country is doing at least something right.
Honestly, if you know that if you killed someone and you’re found guilty and your punishment is to be killed the way you’ve killed your victim, would you want to kill anyone ?
The child murderers on PYSIH did not seem to have any concerns about the children they were abusing dying because they know they would never be subjected to the same kind of abuse. Even if sentenced to death upon conviction, the spectre of being injected to death certainly do not invoke concern for pain.
Would the abusers of Nia Glassie and Ngatikuara Ngati do the things they did if they know that they would be subjected to the same kind of torture they’d inflicted on these children ?

Another two appalling cases you mention there. When I seen Ngatikuara NgatiI’s autopsy photos I cried and cried. I absolutely agree with you, inflict on them what they inflicted on the helpless children, maybe they would think twice before raising their hands if they knew the outcome of their actions. The UK just has no deterrant at all and even the NSPCC are asking how bad the abuse has to be before someone is properly punished.
As much as I am sickened and disgusted by what was done to baby P. It is not the first time this has happened and it won’t be the last unless we all stand up and demand changes into both how the social work dept operates and how the law deals with reprobates like these. We are getting there slowly with paedofiles but not fast enough with HOMEabusers. Make a difference now not tomorrow.

I am a doctor. This sort of disgrace is why I have recently left the UK. Political correctness has taken over and allowed borderline retards to take up positions of responsibility and more importantly, power. The public sector (social workers/agencies/titled positions that have no way of measuring if they are performing/nurses with managerial titles who don’t want to be nurses) is awash with Tesco shelf stackers that have got their masters degrees from polys countrywide. Once in these roles these retards have a clipboard and a belief that they are a proffssional. I have sat in meetings with these Janice from admin types with my fist in my mouth.
Nobody is sacked these days. All of these clip board, break-out session meeting attending social workers and in particular, the disgrace of a paediatrician will keep their jobs and undergo ‘retraining packages’ and provide evidence of their improvement.
Ultimately there will be a raft of further meetings, lots of flip chart analysis discussions while they will fail to remember what initiated all of this in the first place. A child has died.

So you’ll be able to tell us why all the nurses and healthcare staff have had cuts, cuts, cuts to their wages while yours have rocketed. Oh, but no-one works as hard as you, right?
The reason I point this out is that it has resulted in chronic underfunding as most of the budget goes to the doctors – leaving a skeleton staff to back you up, and is at least partly to blame for what has happened here (in terms of how many staff missed his injuries).
All this in a First World country, I am agog. I thought this only happened in Third World countries. The world over people are so busy being politically correct, that nothing gets done anymore. Human Rights, is the new in word, but it seems that the Wrong benefit more from the Right, but the real problem as I see it is that there are far too many Chiefs and not enough Indians.
Some people said why didn’t she give him up?She would’nt want to give him up because her welfare cheque would be reduced. This is what makes me so angry, she never worked. She recieved full state welfare for herself and her children, in return for this she was supposed to feed, clean and most of all protect them. SHE SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO BE EVEN NEAR A CHILD EVER AGAIN.
Every time I think about this, I start to cry. Monsters like this should be killed. This is why Europe needs the death sentence. This must never happen again. These dreaks should never be able to enter society again.
I think the death sentence is even too good for these bastards. They should be made to suffer just like poor little baby P. What makes these sickos want to hurt an innocent little child. Perhaps someone should snap his spine just like he did to the poor little soul. It makes me sick to the stomach when I read these stories and I just can’t stop the tears from coming – but no amount of tears or sympathy stories can do any justice for him. At least we know now that he is no longer suffering any more and even though it shouldn’t have come to his death for him to escape them, at least he is not in any pain and isn’t going to wake up every morning in fear of whats going to happen next. Justice can never be done for such a tragedy like this and no prison sentence will ever be enough for what they have done. Sophie, why ask where the baby’s human rights were? We so often get people asking this question but it’s a total nonsense. The baby had rights but they were violated, this is what makes it a crime. If you want to pretend he had no rights then you should demand no punishment.
I read this story every day and i sit here writting this and sobbing my heart out. I have 2 children myself a 6 yr old and a 2 yr old and no matter how much they cry, scream and shout I love them and treasure them. So i just dont understand how a mother could do this or let any one else do this to her child drunk or drugged up its no excuse. If she didn’t want him, give him to his dad. I dont normally think this way but i tell you what the way some people are these days we DO need to bring back some kind of punishment BY DEATH. The less that is done in this country the more crime there is. Nobody is scarred of commiting a crime now days. The way this country is going being told they are going to prison is like a holiday. Yes it always protects the criminals – so justice is never done. I agree – prison is like a hotel they get widescreen TVs, games consoles and other luxuries – rapists, murderers, peodophiles etc all get let out early so they never actually carry out a full sentence – all they do is say they have changed yet they get into the open world and do the same again. These people and those like them should be sterillised at birth. They are Chavs, scrounging benefit slags who produce child after child as purely money generating items. The social workers are too inexperienced at real life, all their knowledge is from books, which are useless. Too many university graduates in positions like Shoesmith, with a head in the sand attitude to the real world, and the fact that she was proud of graphs rather than falling on her sword left me speechless. Apparently on the day the Doctor examined him, at the request of CPS, Baby P was grizzly and uncooperative, and the Doctor could not be bothered giving him a proper examination…so back to mummy he went. Just think, if that Doctor had done his job, then Baby P may still be alive. Battered, but alive.

i live in harringay and i have a 2year old son whom i love with all my heart and would give my life rather than see him suffer but i have never taken him to be weighed at the baby clicic ive always done it at home but no one have ever contacted me to check if my child is growing ok or if in fact he is ok so this is supposed to be a department that is doing well. I have been following this case closely and it hasn’t left my mine for one minute since I read the hideous details in full.
I can only imagine how the paramedics and those that had to deal with this case after his death must be haunted to this day, I had nothing to do with it and I just cannot shake the mental images I am getting and it’s very distressing.
I say fsck putting them in confinement in jail, make them go through every ounce of what that poor little soul had to go through, repeatedly, until they want to die, then do it over again.
What they did wasn’t just wrong, it was inhuman, disgusting, depraved and most of all unnecessary. If ANYONE deserves hell, it’s these three.
As a mother myself with a 13 mth old I look at her and can’t possibly see how anyone could do such things, they’re at such an inquisitive and lovable stage, words just fail me.
The thing that saddened me most, is that he managed to smile at his social worker, from his pushchair, complete with all the injuries he had, he STILL smiled. It breaks my heart and i’m bawling like a baby as I type this because this boy was failed so many times on so many levels.
I just hope he’s looking down now from a better place and actually seeing how many people would of cared for him and loved him like their own, like he deserved.

I used to see Steven Barker walking the streets of haringey up untill last year…, and I can assure you he is in none of the pics above. The two pics above of males, are both Jason owen AKA Jason Barker….the oldest brother.Look closely. Steven Barker is much larger, and has a very sqaure head with bleach blonde hair. Jason Barker has always been known to be a sicko and sadist, stories of him torturing animals were comon place growing up …. ,Steven was also known to be terrified of him. Check out when the abuse started…at 7 months he supposedly fell down the stairs… who all was involved in returning him to his mother, over and over again. This is why our CPS system fails so many children, not just in the US but all over the world. If these people cared about the children more than their paychecks, maybe out little ones wouldn’t live in such hell.
OMG that time line is horrendous! Wow, I did not realize the UK could be so incompetent. Honestly I believe we would have caught this in the US, due to all the doc visits. I know we have thousands of cases of incompetency with DHS in the US that result in death, but those cases are usually kept out of the radar by parents, they leave them uncared for at home without medical attention. In this case he was at the doctor 3 times a month every month. I would hope our docs would have caught this if put in the same shoes.

The police intervened and took the baby into care, apparently she is now taking legal action to be allowed to see her baby.
With all the failings already happened, I wouldn’t be surprised if she WAS allowed access.

this whole situation is truely heart breaking, we are in the year 2008 an things like this still happen, changes in society laws and legislation still dont protect the most vulnerable people in society. children do not have voices to be heard thats why social workers and other health professionals act as advocates and speak and act for them but in this case the advocates must be MUTE and lost all of their senses !!!!! as they certainly didnt see, smell or hear what was going on. I am a student nurse and i have an obligation to everyone and have to report everything i see and suspect or i would be STRUCK OF the NMC so who are these people accountable to???????? lets hope every time they all close their eyes they see a beautiful little boy smiling on the outside but a little boy who is screaming for someone to help him but cant be heard.

They are not fit to breathe let alone have anymore children. No child should be allowed to suffer the way that poor child did. Regardless of how badly the social work dept acted, the child was neglected by his mother and tortured by his stepfather and they should never be allowed contact with another child again never mind have any of their own. I know people are (quite rightly) disgusted by this case, but making racist remarks about ‘Towel Heads’ and ‘Towel Head Land’ won’t stop incidents like this happening. The majority of social workers and senior social workers are white or British or middle class, or all three. If the local authority which ‘administered’ this case is anything like mine, all the upper managers and directors will most certainly be white and middle class.
While the doctor who examined Peter may well be stupid (and foreign), don’t make her race and nationality the reason why she was too lazy to examine the child.
The reason Peter died was because of political correctness.
I have to work with numerous people who shouldn’t be allowed to look after a dog, let alone children. In a lot of cases, champions representing these people say they need all the help they can get because they have ’special needs’.
As a consequence, there are legions of solicitors, barristers, Q.Cs and judges fighting tooth and claw to keep children with their ’special needs’ parents.
In fact, I have recently heard that the government has brought in new legislation which will make it obligatory for local authorities to try everything under the sun to make sure this happens.
So, even though I know someone is not ever going to be capable of looking after a child properly, I report it to my bosses and the bosses report it to the social workers and the social workers report it to their seniors and the seniors report it to their managers… What happens then? No point in ‘whistle-blowing’ to the government, is there?
I have read most of the articles on this very sad story. It’s not helping, as I can’t stop thinking of that helpless little boy.. How could anybody harm a child, it is beyond belief.. What is more sad is the current system, I deal with Social Services all the time and believe me there primary objective is, what is the cheapest option!!! They hate putting children in care as it cost so much money and effort… I often hear Social Workers saying “can the family or friends take care of the child”, it would be cheaper. It’s sad because if this system dose not change then, we will continue to see children like Baby P dieing.. One child dies every week of child abuse!!! That’s just un-acceptable… If this system contiues to allow children to remain in disfunctional familes then Baby P’s death will have been in vain…. This is the sad truth of a failing system… A children’s service should only be to protect children from any harm, by allowing un-fit parents to be given the benefit of doubt, shows time and time again that changes are needed to protect all children…
Post McPherson report perhaps it’s time to investigate if another type of institutional prejudice is at work within our public services. They may have fallen over themselves being seen to be doing everything possible when it comes to non whites but are they as professional when it comes to white trash? Middle class decision makers should undergo personality profiling to remove any unprofessional institutionally socio economic prejudice tendencies, preventing grotty people from evading scrutiny. The full beam of the enquiry spotlight should be pointed at Dr Sabah Al-Zayyat including a personality profile to determine if there are any unprofessional institutionally racist or socio economic prejudice tendencies present which enable her to make facile comments about an infant with multiple painful injuries such as claiming the child was “miserable & cranky”. All her previous cases should also be revisited to check for other superficial & hasty evaluations. I don’t believe in the death penalty but why am I accused of being a Nazi when I say people like this should be surgically sterilised? They should never be able to have influence on any children again also the parent of these people should also be questioned as it was the neglect they showed them as children which enabled them as adults to fail to empathise with let alone love baby Peter.

This is tragic, we all as human beings need to stand up and be counted, by that I mean, if everyone wrote a letter to their local MP and NO10, the message would get there and something would be done, 3 people and more need to be sacked and sacked they must. But what about all these children that have been failed by law and society already, why aren’t those cases of other children who were murdered been brought to the media’s attention. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. I am a white citizen living in Britain, but I say bring in SHARIFA LAW, OR SIMILAR LAWS TO THAT OF THE ARAB EMIRATES, they don’t stand for no nonsense over there, then word gets about and people start to treat people with respect. People need to learn, what message is being given out if people get away with this?

I used to see Steven Barker walking the streets of haringey up untill last year…, and I can assure you he is in none of the pics above. I work in higher education and most midwives and doctors can’t even speak English very well, i’m not adverse to foreigners getting jobs over here at all, but if you can’t speak the language, how are you going to understand your patients plight?
I hope its a cold day in hell before that Dr ever practises again, and yes 14 years IS pathetic, if they last that long, and if they do last that long and return to society under new names, they will have to have an awful lot of plastic surgery to change their looks and people don’t forget easily.
I couldn’t sleep last night for thinking about this and checked my on kids a million times just to look at their innocent little sleeping faces and the only time baby P was probably at peace was when he was sleeping, I can’t repeat enough times how much of a tragedy this is and how it needs to be stopped, worldwide.. NOW.
I’ve replied to an earlier post which is similar to this, in that it seems to imply that baby Peter died because the doctor was a foreigner. The doctor may be lazy, stupid, or both, but her nationality or racial origin was not the cause of the child’s injuries or death. There are lots of people who aren’t white or British working in the NHS and believe it or not, many of them are very good at their jobs. People who are closet racists have got to stop using this case as yet another stick with which to beat foreigners.
The reason Peter died was because of political correctness. There are thousands of useless, feckless, lazy stupid people in Britain (of all colours and racial origins) who have been allowed to breed like flies. They don’t look after their children properly, they don’t send them to school and it would appear to me that the only reason they’ve had children is to generate a source of income. But you’re not allowed to say that. If you do, you will be rebuked and told: “These people need help and guidance. They need parenting lessons. They need help with getting off the drugs/drink [whatever]. They need support NOT criticism and a judgemental attitude.”
My friends and I all work in a similar environment, where we regularly throw our hands up in exasperation every day, but get nowhere. What about having upwards of 10 people going into a mother’s house every day, to make sure the children don’t get killed or seriously injured while she sits on her arse watching the equivalent of Kilroy?
Try working in that environment with a commonsense attitude and see how far you get.

Never in all my life have I heard of such horrifying abuse inflicted on a defenseless baby! I have been deeply affected by this story and have become obssessed with getting justice for this gorgeous baby boy.

I broke my back aged 26 and i can not describe the pain, even whilst dosed on morphine. This baby woke up day after day in thuis agony and i can’t sleep at the trhought of this. I have a 6month old son and 9yr old daughter. When my son wakes in the night, it breaks my heart to think that no one answered little baby p’s agonising cries.
If only Maria Ward had taken the time to pick him up on the last day that he was seen alive, she’d have realised. Did No one question why he could once walk and was never seen walking again? Did she not think to wipe his little chocolate covered face and unearth the horror underneath? I am haunted by his angelic little face and the saddest thing is, he was cremated, ashes scattered on a bird bath with not even a plaque to honor his short, terror filled life, Does anyone know if we can raise money to buy him a plaque? I have worked in social work and yes the work load is tremendous but you take on a job to PROTECT and no matter how little the pay is, how much paperwork needs doing YOU MUST DO YOUR JOB OR GO WORK SOMEWHERE ELSE! I believe The Sun ( a uk paper ) has donated a small plaque at the cemetary, although I think he deserves a whopping great headstone.
More pictures have been released of him today in our newspapers and I truly believe this case will haunt me for the rest of my life, I can’t look at a picture of him without bursting into tears, on these new, profressionaly taken pictures you can clearly see a swelling and bruise to the side of his face, why did NO-ONE think to help this child? Children have lumps and bumps, I know this as well as any other, but ugh, I’m shaking i’m so angry, he could still be alive today if SOMEONE, just ONE person had tried a little harder.
Yes he should have a beautiful headstone, i have not yet seen todays papers but like you I burst in to tears every time I see his darling little face. Children do fall over all the time but it is incredibly hard to break a baby’s bones as they have not firmed up yet and are more flexible. Great force was used and NO ONE noticed??!! I know that it is cheaper to keep kids in danger at home or with relatives but how many childless couples would have cared for this child for FREE, given him love, a safe place. Things must change and I do not know of one person who isn’t sickened and angered by this case, so lets not back down, lets GET THE CHANGES and prevent this HORROR!
Shocking and sad, how can nobody have noticed. I sometimes wonder if we are in 21st century. I find so hard to swallow that nobody noticed that a child was paralised, bruised, burned, missing fingers, dirty, smelly, hungry and unloved. Did people just turn a blind eye or really did no one notice. Lets also not forget Tiffany Wright aged only three who was murdered at the Scarbrough Arms in Upperthorpe, Sheffield she died of bronchopneumonia due to malnutritionat the hands of her mum and stepdad again failed by Social Services. Social Services seem only too willing to stick their noses in where not really needed whilst doing this fail those who are really in need of help. I hope the law will deal with the perpertators of these crimes and give these miserable sick people a sentence that reflects their sordid crime. For all those children and people who are used, abused, and unloved lets never turn a blind eye again. I donate through my salary every month to NSPCC maybe if everyone did the same we could put a STOP to it for good.

I read that Maria, the social worker, is staying behind locked doors because of the guilt, and her friend things it’s “unfair” as she has kids of her own. FUCK UNFAIR! I feel for her kids, yes… but her kids are living, breathing and probably in a secure loving home, not being tortured to death and sentanced to death by suits that couldn’t give a shit.

Let’s also not forget Amy Howson, who’s “dad” and I use this term lightly snapped her spine in half. After this poor little mite had died she was examined and she had over 40 injuries to her body, including fractures in her arms and legs. She weighed the same as she did when she was 6 months old, she was 16 months old.

Maria Ward should feel guilty, for the rest of her life. She said that baby p was “well” the last time she saw him, how the hell could she have judged that when she didn’t even pick him up and allowed him to be shut in another room. She managed to tell his mum to wipe his face before she took him out, saying it was a disgrace, why did she not insist the mum cleaned him up whilst she was there. I know why cos she couldn’t be bothered to do her job properly and she was the last person to see him alive (outside of the houshold) she could of scooped up his broken body and saved him from the fatal blow that left him to die in agony, frightened and alone. That poor little boy needed protecting and i believe the mother the lodger and his 15 yr old girlfriend and the other kids in the house are all accountable in some way for a part in that poor baby’s death at the hands of the mothers so called boyfriend. Its absolutely disgusting that the social care network or lack off failed this defenceless child to the extent that poor little peter lost his life.

Strikes me too that in even death they elected for cremation rather than burial. Thus removing a focal point from ever being erected to the failings of the few, and denying him a memorial. A sign that they wish to brush this affair under the carpet as quickly as possible.
Today I have called for an artist of international standing to produce a bust or portait of this poor child, this to be placed in the National Portrait Gallery, inscribed underneath with the words “They let me down”.
Further for Royal Mail to produce stamps using the published picture of of him, such stamps to pay for postage and have a surcharge for childrens charities.
His picture to be hung in every government office from No 10 down, inscribed underneath with the words “YOU FAILED ME”.

She’s just as guilty to stand by and watch even if she played no part. At 15 you ARE in a position to blow the whistle. I know she’d have been scared to tackle the adults but couldn’t she have informed her parents, a teacher, friend or just dialled 999. They’d have responded immediately and he’d of been caught in the act. She’s just another body in this horrific case that ignored it. She helped bury the phones with evidence of torture on them. Why has she not been arrested too?
U no what sort of person can just stand back and do nothing. No matter how scared she was she could have done something!! Ring 999 from a payphone u don’t have to even give ur name or run out in to the street when people are passing by, they would have came running in to help and have got the police, then nothing would have happened to her. This story has really got to me, my little boy is 20 months old and so beautiful that i couldn’t imagine anybody hurting him. There are some sick fooks in this country, it’s time they were properly dealt with, they might think differently then.

Beautiful baby boy…how alone and cold you must have felt in your cot in the dark. I hope you can feel the endless love that the nation is sending out to you now, wherever you are. I have cried every day since I heard about what you were put through. Although Baby Peter passed away over a year ago, I feel an immense amount of grief. This neglect, degradation and violence is not uncommon. The only thing I can hold on to is that his pain in life and loneliness in death wasn’t all in vain. Today’s ‘News of the World’ article is the worst thing i’ve ever read…in the end he was oblivious to punches and pain. Can’t understand why he picked on Peter especially? Prob because he couldn’t answer back and he was the only boy in the family. Just everything set up against him poor thing. I bet the social worker is always thinking what if i’d just picked up out of his pushchair on the last visit? What if I had not spoken just one sentence to him and then allowed him to be shut in the kitchen? That’s her punishment; having to live with that for the rest of life. Even the mother said ‘the social worker would have to be stupid to not notice anything’. They must have thought they were invincible.
All we can do is look inside ourselves and make sure we can be the best human beings possible. The people guilty of baby Peter’s suffering and death will have their punishment. I am horrified as is every right minded person at this awful tragedy. Last week my grandchild of 13 mths had been unwell with a chest infection, a health visitor told my daughter that she would be reported to social services, because it was “wrong” of her to give the child a bottle if he cried during the night! In her opinon she thought it may be seen as “abuse” as it may rot his teeth. If thats what these so called professionals are coming out with, god help us all!
I think Nigel is right, we have to object as a united nation. The criminals in this country have more rights than the victims. We need to write to the Government highlighting our concerns and demanding that the criminal justice system be reviewed. There is no deterrant for perpetrators of crime in this country.

I read that Baby P was paralysed as a result of his spinal injuries..he was paralysed from the waist down..im not sure if this is true but is something that i read in the paper. I cant believe that anyone could miss something as vital as that.
I believe the identities of the parents were kept secret to prevent the older children being identified.

I would rather see them hang, but this will happen again. And note that the postmortem proved inconclusive, which raises the question: Does Ms Zayyat have equally incompetent relatives employed in the medical service?
It’s probably more of a case of which injury killed him? Was it slowly over time or was the last blow to the neck/face the one that ultimatley killed him, I guess they have to say inconclusive because if they didn’t and blamed it on one injury and the killers contested that and it was found to be wrong, they’d probably get off scott free.

First of all, the story of this child is absolutely a tragic travesty.
However, the conclusions you draw from it about the incompetence of entire working classes around it are simply wrong. Of course the three people involved are clearly crazy (has anyone considered that they might have suffered similar negligence as kids, hence they’re messed up lives?)The real fault here lies in with the system, not the people of the system, but the rules and regulations themselves. They were entirely ineffective at circumventing this catastrophe in time. You can blame social workers all you want, but trust me – they knew what was going on, and they wish they could have had the means to stop it. To remove a child from its parents is a near impossible procedure in our bloated bureaucracy. One of the reason this is so is because every time a child is taken from its parents by the social services, almost always for many good reasons, the parents will go bananas in the media, claim that “their child has been stolen from them” and that they are “good parents”. This will be echoed on pages such as this one.The social workers need to keep information regarding the kid confident, and thus cannot answer for themselves and their actions. As a result, social services gets less support from the public, regulations get tougher, and children like Baby P die.
While i agree that the system that is put in place to protect children such as baby P is pathetic to say the least, dont see how the childhood of his tormentors makes a difference at all.
I come from a history of abuse. My father regularly beat me and my siblings and at one time put a loaded gun to my head. Sure it did damage, but i have never , ever hurt my children. The abuse i suffered made me more determined not to ever inflict that hurt onto anyone else.
People overuse that excuse these days. Its a cop out and a crock of shit. If all the bleeding heart wankers out there would stop making excuse after excuse for the actions of people like Barker, Owen and Tracey, my bet is, less children would be abused.

Has anyone else seen THE SUN this morning? Theres more on Baby P and those evil c**t’s. Its says “Owen was lastnight being held on a special wing for his own protection at wandsworth prison. He was switched from Brixton jail after a plot was uncovered to slash him razor blades”
When i read this i realised i was nodding my head n had a smile on my face coz i was begining to doubt that they were going to get what they deserve and were just going to get an easy ride in jail, thankfully i was wrong.
It also goes to say: “Baby P’s mother was also threat and living in fear in segregation on the lifers wing in Holloway prison” Goes on to mention that she is the target of an internet n text campaign to name and shame. Says she’s also been put on suicide watch. “A prison source said it is impossible to keep somebody’s identity a secret in prison. Even when she arrived word got round what she was in for”. It goes on to say “People in Holloway prison have been revolted by what she has done. Inside it would be a badge of honour among inmates if they could get to her and take revenge for the death of her baby”.
And the evil twisted c**t of a stepdad, it goes to say: “He is being held at Belmarsh jail in South East London”
They have a picture of the stepdad also but obviously his ugly mug has been obscured for legal reason but he’s basically sitting in a garden grinning and drinking a bear.
Sorry for the long post but i hope this gives some of you a sense that they are not going to get an easy rider inside. I’ve been thinking bout this case since i first heard of it but this article has made me feel a little bit better in terms of knowing that they WILL get what they deserve, 1 way or another. 14 years for the three pieces of scum is a sick joke. There should be up for murder and then locked away forever…and forever means forever. A bed, basic food and water, 2 hrs exercise a day and nothing else, no contact with other inmates and let them spend the rest of their squalid lives thinking over their actions until the day they die.
Instead they will probably be out in 6 – 8 years and their identities changed (remember the young killers of poor James Bulger).
The death sentence is too good for these people so with the joke that is the British penal system unlikely to produce proper punishment, we can hope that they suffer an informal justice in the hands of other cons.

I have always defended the welfare of today because I thought they were alot better than when I was a child. Never in my wildest dreams did I think the were just as bad.
As a child if a teacher reported their concerns for my welfare to the welfare they would go to my house and speak with my mum who would put on a sob story of how bad and out of control I was, so the welfare would tell her I needed a good belting. My mum never needed to be told that, I suffered hell in the “family” home. I would beg teachers on my knees not to report me to the welfare.
I have never told anyone my life and I only do now because I am so angry at the state of things in this world where tiny dependant babies are at risk of such horrible horrible treatment.
I will never defend the welfare again, but I am going to write to my government weakly until he hates me. Something has to be done for tiny ones who are at risk of being beaten and killed.

There is a long history of social services getting it wrong time and time again. Far from being concerned at removing children, they have frequently split families on the most tenuous of excuses. Just think of the so called Satanic Abuses disgrace and also the arrogant staff at Cleveland. Those people removed dozens of children on the flimsiest evidence that eventually proved to be nonsense. Only one senior employer resigned and she ended up in another area doing the same work. Social Services needs a thorough examination as it is riddled with self serving arrogant people who would be unable to survive in the real world. They build themselves little empires and are accountable to nobody. When somebody does try to challenge them they close ranks and use threatening tactics to protect themselves. Their may be some exceptions at ground level. Some truly dedicated people but they are few and far between. It demonstrates just how bad the situation is when you review the media interviews with the obnoxious Sharon Shoesmith. What brain dead cretin would produce a set of graphs to prove ‘how good we are’ when being interviewed about the murder of a 17 month old baby. If nothing else, it shows her lack of management skills. This is a woman with control of a £106 million budget. Just think of that figure for a minute. ONE HUNDRED AND SIX MILLION POUNDS . What sort of a place is Haringey that it needs that level of annual budget. When social workers are quite capable of snatching children from seemingly stable families, how come they could not take baby P away from a recognised danger zone. I would have thought that 75 occasions when the child was seen by somebody should have been enough to ring the biggest of warning bells. As for the Doctor involved, there can be no excuse. She should be removed from practice immediately pending a very serious and deep searching enquiry.

Hi,JHB,My mum was forced into a care home by Haringey S/S and I was falsely accused of beating her upand stealing her pension,etc.MPs,Solicitors etc came against a brick wall and no-one ever was accountable.They are a law unto themselves and it is a dangerous situation that no-one is accountable. Meanwhile the baby Peter is in my thoughts daily.
At the moment the vile nature of these people has created a frenzy. In time this will fade. We must not let this anger fade, they must be harrassed on the inside and out. Yesterday i read in the paper (i’m from uk) that Owen BOASTED to college friends last year-
“I’ve got a big trial coming up at the old bailey, me and a mate tortured someone but it went a bit far”. He did not disclose to them that the SOMEONE was a defenseless baby. The college friends say that had they have known he wouldn’t have left the coffee room walking.
It went a bit fucking far? The evil evil bastard. He knew that it was torture and boasted about his kill. I’ve never been a violent person but i’d like to stone that fucker to death, as would half of the poulation.
I also wondered if anyone knew if the other children were neglected or harmed. I know they were girls and older than little baby p but why did they pick on him? He did not have the know to be ill behaved, he was a baby! It chills me to think that the answer to my own question is simply because he was helpless. Couldn’t fight back and couldn’t tell of his agony and fear.
I cannot stop thinking about that beautiful little boy. There are so many things that are making me crazy. The doctor, who didn’t want to examine him because he “was cranky and dirty”, the mother, the stepfather, the paedo who lived with them, the 15 year old girl. I was talking about this with a friend last night who has told me that a website is making money selling t-shirts featuring an angry looking man and the slogan “I smacked Baby P” I mean how f***** up is this country.

I keep trying to put myself in this little boy’s position, and it infuriates me so much. Most of us have expierenced love in our lives; from parents, friends, lovers, etc. This little boy didn’t. He probably wanted to be loved so much. Instead, he was beaten. I can’t imagine how cold, alone and painful his existence was. His abusers probably went so far as to tell him that it was HIS fault he was being abused. This little boy felt more pain, both emotionally and physically, than most people ever do. And he was just a baby. I feel numb. I often wish that God would just take these poor children back to Heaven instead of them having to endure these things.

In closing, and i qualify this by saying in no way am I justifying any of the neglegence demonstrated by any of the professinals charged with the welfare or this little chap, but the social care system is in dire need of foter families. I kbow that one place ment was overrulled by the manager but if there were more foster families he may have been less inclined to send peter back to those monstorus people. I am not prepared to let this government allow this to happen again so I and my wife have agreed that is what WE can do to help prevent another terrible occurrence like this. We concted our council last week and we are enrolling on a course that qualifies us as a foster family.

I know this case is truly awful, but i’m afraid there will always be people who doe this sort of thing. There always have been and there always will be. I’m sure everyone’s going to call me a liberal, but i think you’ll find that people who murder children tend to have had pretty dreadful childhoods themselves, or will be suffering from acute mental illness. No one is holding a gun to our heads to force us to make the decisions we do, and if grown adults feel they are affected by the problems in their childhood, or mental illness, then they seek help. They do NOT batter a defenceless baby to death.
We on this board or around this nation are not dehumanising these people. The day and hour they made the choice to batter Baby P, they dehumanised themselves.

I can’t argue with what you said, except to say that no matter what they did to that baby they are still humans. What’s probably the hardest thing to deal with is the fact that our species are capable of such acts.
I’m not. I’m positive you aren’t. I would hazard a guess that most people aren’t capable of pulling a baby’s fingernails out with pliers, slicing off his fingertips, and punching him in the mouth so hard one of his teeth ends up in his stomach. Being human doesn’t mean we are all capable of good AND evil. It means we have the ability to use our CONSCIENCE. Contrary to what most believe, following your conscience does not mean going by a gut feeling, or what feels right at the time. Following conscience means you sit down and weigh up the pros and cons, and once you have made an informed decision on how you act based on what you THINK is right (having looked at both sides), you do exactly what you have decided uon…this is following your conscience.
If people carry out acts of incredible evil, they are not doing the one thing that sets us apart from animals…they are not thinking if what they are doing is right and then following their conscience (doing the right thing). They act on instinct…which is exactly what animals do.
So when Barker broke little Baby P’s back, and made him sit in his own faeces for days so that his skin peeled off, he was not acting like a human being at all. He was not using his conscious CONCIENCE. Added to that a level of depravity and psychopathy I have hardly heard of before, then you have a figure who is barely human. He looks like one, he talks like one…but that is it.
The sooner we stop thinking of these psychopaths as the same as the rest of us, the better. For most human beings are NOT capable of this level of brutality. We are NOT the same, and therefore, we cannot be treated the same.

I may be better if the sentence is short. In jail they are protected.. out of jail they are at the mercy of whoever finds them.. and Im sure they will get what they deserve!! I know what i will do if I meet them!!

No, no, no. Maxine Carr lied to defend the man she loved by providing him an alibi. She wrongly believed that he wasn’t capable of what he had been accused of. Maxine had nothing at all to do with killing the girls, she was at her mother’s house at the time. The slime-ball Huntley was hyserical on her return and begged her to lie and say she was with him the whole time.
The comparison with Venables and Thomson is valid in this case, we may well see a repeat of this in the future with these subhuman monsters.
Don’t make opinions from what the tabloid newspapers tell you to make. They do this to create strong reactions by “dressing up” news stories. These strong reactions ensure you will buy another of their papers, therefore getting more of your money. They don’t care what they do to people in the process, they just want your money.

This is an “eye opener” for all of us, i look at my 14 month old boy now and i swell up i cannot believe people could do such a thing, people stand by and he dies. nothing will happen to the people who failed him, they have got away with murder ‘the judge ruled as they could not prove which one killed the boy that they could not be sentenced for murder, and will serve a max of 14 yrs (actual sentancing on the 15th of dec,i think).
They’ll be marked for the rest of their lives. And they will know that.

Wes (164) makes a good point tht i hinted at yesterday. The money used to keep these vile idividuals in prison is OURS and in my opinion should be used to ensure this can never hapen again. Sadly these people will be imprisoned and even worse they will claim to have been rehabilitated nd be given new identites that will, as Claire (163 reply) sugests will cost over £1m per new identity. Again this is OUR tax pounds and moreover an utter disgrace and insult to baby peters memory. the Brittish government sould feel ashamed of themselves as they YET AGAIN are failing this brave little soul.
Some wil say that if they do not get a new identity and are releaed then there will be public disorder and possibly killings to be invetigated and hat will cost more……..which is something that I think many of us would be prepared to accept.

As for these people being abused as children and learned behaviour, well I have hear that Barker had the mental capacity of a 10 year old………….well my 8 year old adopted daughter ha a very traumatic first 2 years and she still knows right from wrong, so that wont wash with me. It may provide a possible cause and this MUST not be mistaken for even partial justification.
I suspect that his mental state will also be used to hold him indeffinately, to protect him.
