Micheal and Wiremu Curtis, Lisa Kuka, Micheal Pearson and Oriwa Kemp
You know how it is when you’re hanging out with your buddies, having a few drinks and a few laughs. You crack a few lame jokes and pull a few party tricks out of your hat. Some of the old favorites are “The Blue Flame” and “Spin the Bottle” or better yet “Shove the Baby in the Clothes Dryer until She Bleeds from the Head.” Oh and what about the one where you lift the baby up high and then drop her to the ground????
What’s that you say? You have never played that one? Not ever?
It was a favorite of Wiremu Curtis, 19 and Micheal Curtis, 22. They would play this game, and many, many others with little Nia Glassie, while her mum, 22 year old Lisa Kuka and her cousin, 20 year old Micheal Pearson and his partner, 18 year old Oriwa Kemp watched and laughed.
On August 3rd 2007 Nia Glassie was pronounced dead after lapsing into a coma 36 hours before as a result of bleeding between her skull and her brain.
The Curtis brothers, Kemp, Pearson and Lisa Kuka were soon questioned and arrested on charges relating to Nia’s death.
During their investigation, local police found that a number of adults, both family members and neighbors, were aware of the neglect and abuse Nia was subject to…but did nothing to stop it.
A child witness to Nia’s constant plight has told a jury that Nia Glassie’s tormentors would not let her rest because they liked to hurt her. She said that brothers Micheal and Wiremu kicked the little girl three times in the head in the hours before she died, stating that they kicked her, “hard as a rock” and that Nia “then started to fall asleep.”
Micheal Curtis denied kicking Nia, telling the court she had fallen from his shoulders and hit her head on the ground.
The child witness (who cannot be named) also stated that Nia was “smashed up” by the Curtis brothers’ every day. She was there to witness the clothes dryer incident and described it in detail. “They shoved her in there and turned it on. She went round and round until her head bled. She was stuffed in there and they turned it on for about five minutes, and then they turned it off and she was hot. Boiling hot.”
The one thing constant in little Nia’s life was torment. The “games” she endured and suffered through included:
* Being kicked in the face, causing her nose to bleed.
* Being hit and slapped punched and jumped on.
* Having objects such as shoes thrown at her.
* Being subjected to verbal insults, such as being told she was ugly and stupid.
* Being forced into a T.V cabinet drawer.
* Getting dragged through the sandpit half naked causing friction burns.
* Getting shoved into piles of rubbish.
* Being made to bathe in cold water in the middle of the harsh New Zealand winter.
* Being folded into a sofa bed and sat on.
* Getting flung against a wall.
* Being held high in the air and then dropped to the floor.
* Being used for adult wrestling moves, copied from a PS2 game.
* Being whirled rapidly on a rotary clothes line until she was flung off.
* Getting put into a tumble dryer and spun on high temperature.
* Having her head and feet dangled into the fire place…while it was lit.
* Being kicked repeatedly in the head because she was crying.
* Getting left dying in a coma for 36 hours while mum and her friends’ party and think up new “games” to play with Nia.
Thankfully, the jury didn’t like the games any more than Nia did, and Wiremu Curtis and Micheal Curtis were found guilty in Rotarua High Court, in New Zealand, of murder.
Nia’s mother, Lisa Kuka was found guilty of 2 manslaughter charges relating to lack of protection and failure to seek medical help for her critically injured daughter.
Nia’s cousin, Micheal Pearson and his partner Oriwa Kemp were found not guilty of manslaughter in relation to her death. They were however found guilty along with the Curtis brothers of numerous other charges against the child.
They are all awaiting sentencing.
Justice Judith Trotter broke down following the verdicts and offered the jury counseling.
Editor’s comment: You know it’s bad enough when an adult hurt a kid because the adult gets angry. It’s even worse when a child is molested by a pedophile, but if you look at it as part of the big picture, the son of a bitch is just doing what pedophiles do. But these bastards killed Nia Glassie because it was fun. Think about that for a second. These less than humans didn’t get pleasure from causing pain, like a sadist would, they got a good laugh. These deviant little shits tortured a three year old girl to death because they thought it was FUNNY. I was so mad the first time I read this story I snapped my damn Sharpie in half. How do you punish people like this, or maybe a better question would be, how do you create people like this? Garbage like this wasn’t born, it wasn’t even hatched. It was excreted from the mother-thing like some kind of human fecal matter, its stench befouling anyone and anything that dared to approach. And the only way to deal with it is to do what we always do with such things….Flush’em!
Do Micheal and Wiremu Curtis, Lisa Kuka, Micheal Pearson and Oriwa Kemp deserve Hell?

WTF, how could they even think any of that shit was funny. And the mom, what the hell is wrong with her ……. I can’t get over how many mother lack any kind of ‘maternal instinct’. I dont even think mom or mother is the correct title, maybe uterus is more appropriate cause thats obviously all she ever was to allow that to happen to her baby. Why is it so hard for all these women to not realize how lucky they are to have been blessed to have such a precious gift when there are so many people who would love to be a mom and can’t. If that were my little girl, the police would have been involved but only to file a missing person report for people who would even think about attempting it and believe me they would never be found !
WHAT THE MOTHERFUCKING FUCK????
Long time lurker here, being brought out of lurkdom by the sick fucks mentioned here over the past week or so. Just when I thought it couldn’t get worse, it gets worse.
I’ve been saying for years that society is way too easy on people who hurt children. I’ve always thought we should kill ‘em all, like a worldwide cleansing of child abusers so the people of the world can have a chance of living in peace. I’m a rather peaceful person. I don’t even yell at my dog.
But I’m not thinking of that now. I’m just too angry. These five POS would be getting off too easy just to be executed humanely.
OK, at first I thought back to last night’s conversation about painfully sterilizing subhumans like these, and was challenged to be a little more creative about how we could send child killers to hell if we could. IMO, there’s no better place to start than with these five anal fissures of humanity.
Put them in a small, very warm, damp room. Naked. Say, about 80-85 degrees Fahrenheit, with at least 80% humidity. Tie them all together, (TIGHTLY, so none of them can move. If it causes them to have gangrene in their hands and feet, then so be it) with one in the center and the other four facing the center ‘person’.
Have whoever come on in and injure them in whatever way they see fit…as long as the injuries are painful, but not life threatening, except for the person in the center. Make sure lots of people are pointing and laughing as this is happening.
Then, kill the person in the center by opening its abdomen and eviscerating it. Holy hari kari, Batman!
Then, leave them all for few days, beaten and broken, and tied tightly to the hot, stinking, rotting, oozing mess. Pour some water on ‘em once in a while so they don’t die of thirst. Just make sure the water is imported from some urban body of water in Mexico so they shit themselves uncontrollably. If they complain about the body, turn up the heat to make it worse. Then, make them vote on which one of them is going to die next, and give that person the same treatment. Rinse and repeat.
It probably makes me a sick fuck to dream up of shit like that, but I still don’t consider myself 1/1,000th the sick fuck of the least sick person mentioned over the past week. And I gotta say, writing this down made me feel a lot better.
R.I.P. little Nia. I hope there is a Heaven, because if there is one you are there now.
“Gee I can’t fathom why anyone would do this to a child or any human being for that matter. How could anyone DO such a thing?”
“Hey to make ourselves feel better let’s tell each other elaborate and disgusting torture-snuff fantasies!”
“Hey that sounds great!”
Irony, thy name is PYSIH
hahaha, inDEED.
Let’s see. Five pieces of shit take a baby and torture her over a period of three years until she dies. Just for laughs. And they do this in front of other children.
But go ahead, judge my reaction instead. What does that say about YOU?
Cmon now, not saying what you’re doing is the same ballpark, or even the same game. It’s not even a matter of degree. But I do think ultimately that both what these people did and what you are doing come from the same basic part of human nature – powerlessness which begets the need to feel power – tho it may be as innocuous as typing torture-porn or as gruesome as torturing a young girl to death.
I’m not implying that you could do something like these people so don’t misunderstand. But ultimately their desires and your desires spring from the same dark place.
Then it’s simple. Stuff these shitbags back in to that “same dark place” But make the trip as painful as we can. Make them suffer long.
I am seriously with you on this one noyuo.
Since i started writing articles for PYSIH, i have discovered literally hundreds of untold stories of child abuse.
There are web pages filled with photos of their smiling little faces and then you read how they died horrifically. There are days when after doing research, i have to get up and walk away from the computer and go hug my kids, or phone my mother for a good cry.
I think what hurts the most is that in most ( not all, but most) a child protection agency of some sort, or family and neighbours of the victim have known about the abuse and failed to act.
People just dont want to get involved. WHen did we become too scared to protect a child?
They rely on us and trust us and look to us for protection…and more often than not, their cries for help call on deaf ears.
Please, if you know of, or even suspect that a child is being abused, dont turn a blind eye. You may be their only lifeline.
In Australia the number to ring is1800688009.
Its a free call, and yu can remain anonymous.
For everyone else all over the world, its a matter of looking in your local phone directory. It will take five minutes of your time to place a call that could mean a lifetime of difference to a child.
I’m with you all the way Amy.
It almost seems like everyday things just get worse and worse. My heart aches for all the children in the world that don’t have a loving mom figure or dad figure.
How hard is it for someone to not have a kid. If one knows or just has an inkling that they wouldn’t want to be a parent then why do it.
I really can’t wrap my mind around how someone can be so horrible to a child.
Amy, I couldn’t agree with you more. We as a society need to pull our heads out of our asses and stop using excuses like ‘it’s not my kid’ and stand up for these kids, because how are they suppose to stand up for themselves when some of them can’t even sit up let alone speak, etc.!!!
It’s a shame how this world has changed, now kids have to worry about breathing the wrong way cause their parents are going to beat the shit out of them ! It’s just not fair, where did the time go when a kid was able to be a kid!
I agree Amy. I’ve found myself more and more involved in advocating for children whose molesters, rapists and murderers are up for parole. That is a little more time consuming than making a phone call which is also worth all the free time I have in the world. I really hate that the world is full of people who continue to hurt and batter children taking away the innocence they’re born with. It’s horrible and honestly, it gives me nightmares after I read stories like this. I look at my daughter at night and can’t help but to think what I would do if this happened to my child. I couldn’t live my life without my kids knowing they were murdered in this manner; white kids, black, brown… whatever the color (I know that’s a shocker hearing that from me) but children live their lives as adults according to how we raise them. They’re all innocent and all deserve a chance at a productive life. I just had to say that. I’ll have horrible thoughts about this story for a really long time. I read up on this yesterday before I even read the story on PYSIH. The link on PYSIH wouldn’t work for me yesterday, so I Googled the names.
Im actually starting college next year to do Social Work. Hopefully ill do a better job than some of the idiots out there getting paid to protect children.
People like these make an excellent case for retrospective abortion, ie 19 and 22 years after birth in the case of the Curtis’s.
So many child abuse cases of late, in this day and age you’d think SOMETHING could be done about it. Shocking and appaulling.
You ask how you punish someone like this. I say we go biblical on them and an eye for an eye. We allow the jailers (with regulation and oversight of course) to inflict the exact same punishment on each of them. Instead of an hour a day of yard time, they get an hour a day of industrial Dryer time. Instead of feeding them nutritional meals, we feed them the rubbish they forced her into. Instead of sleeping on a cot they can sleep under the weight of king ka maya maya big dude. Instead of nice warm refreshing showers that they are still privy too they should get a bucket of ice outside (ideally with metal fragments in it). I could go on. This story really pissed me off and to look at them, all with seemingly the aggregate iq of a mushroom that ingested sniffing glue. There is a special place in hell for this mother that allowed this to happy. Fry em all.
Ya know as I read these child abuse cases repeatedly I still don’t know why they surprise me. Maybe because I would never even think to put my baby in the dryer, or dangle her over hot fire, or spin her from a clothes line. Instead I think subconsciously uh oh, she kicked her blankets off while sleeping so therefore my baby is cold I will cover her up, or OMG she tried standing while holding the coffee table, fell, and is fussing Is she ok? Let me go see and cuddle her and comfort her. But these twisted people never showed little Nia any compassion, instead this poor thing was left to comfort herself and was probably so stressed out thinking “what the fuck next next” in her little baby mind “Is this what life is like outside of my moms womb?”. (That is if she even had a thought process left) that she never had a chance to enjoy humanity, or comfort, or the warmth of her mommy holding her singing and rocking her to sleep. SICK JUST FUCKING SICK! The government really needs to step up and instead of worrying about piddly little marijuana charges or some dumb ass violating probation by having alcohol in their home or anything else so piddly and they need to toughen up on our childrens abusers! I am SURE child abuse has increased over the years not decreased so why not make a change!
sickened… i could NOT agree with you more… your rage is fully understood… i have been in a daze all day thinking about the torture this little girl endured, i wish i could just hold her, comfort her, tell her that somebody cares about her… she probably never got any love in her whole life… THERE NEEDS TO BE CHANGE.
this is what i don’t get… what turns these excuses for human beings into beasts? ok fine, they were raised in poor, broken homes. what makes the difference between someone who was simply raised in a bad environment… to a child abuser and/or killer? any ideas anyone?
Jesus i usually have something cold to say.
BUT THIS IS SICKENING
noyuo, thanks for explaining that. You’re right – we’re all capable of horrific thoughts, it’s just a matter of which group a person belongs to: the 98-99% of people who have the thoughts, and the other 1-2% who have them and act on them.
My response was a culmination of about six months or so of reading PYSIH and getting angrier and angrier, and not being able to find the words to express how I felt about these people. It was cathartic, but I don’t think I’ll make a habit of it.
wtf?????
i don’t even know what to say!
i can’t even call them animals, because i can’t think of any that kill their young for fun.
Poor little baby, may the people in prison do the same thing to these assholes that they did this to that beautiful little girl. the punishment wont be even close from the courts that they deserve, the real punishment will be from the people they are locked up with. my mom is a correction officer and she tells me that even though people in prison are there for other fukked up things they HATE child abusers and the abusers ALWAYS get what they deserve. have a fun life assholes
I hope the justice system in New Zealand is better than the one we have in America. In America, these monsters would get off with maybe a half dozen years of prison, when they should be locked away for life.
You know, in many American states, when a teenager kills a parent–even if the parent had been physically and sexually abusing them for their entire life–they are charged as adults and are frequently sentenced to life in a maximum security prison without the possibility of parole. When an adult kills a baby or child, or tortures them nearly to death, they get maybe 5-10 years. Our legal system does not esteem children very much– we treat them only slighter better than animals.
I’m from Rotorua, New Zealand, where this took place. I hate to tell you guys, New Zealand’s justice system is pathetic. These people will get ‘life’ in prison, which is about 10 years, or 7 years with ‘good behaviour’. Everyone in our town wants them shot. We are all waiting for the sentencing, and if it is not good enough, there will be an absolute outrage.
Yeah, its about the same here in Australia. The sentences handed out are pathetic and that is why the crimes keep happening.
Yep, we also had a case where two twin babies were killed by their mother and father …(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_and_Cru_Kahui)
The father was found not guilty in court, and the police have said there is not enough evidence to charge the mother. SO, two children dead, no one in prison for it.
Oh god, I can not believe this, but I am agreeing with “noyou”…Ha ha ha, it was funny. Remember a good laugh? What is this place coming to. Why are you so fucking tense Old School PYSIH members, I am from the New School and I intend on keeping it that way :o). Make a fucking pact, no more fucked up child abuse stories. Geeeeez I can’t take anymore!!! I would leave but, but I am not going out like that. You have got to pull it together. For at least 20 more stories, agree, no more chikd crimes… I say we find a “real” story to post about a kick ass chick, who kicks another kick ass chic’s ass to protect her kick ass chic’s chic…Oh wait, that’s another web site. :o)
They are all beasts. The should all rot in Hell for eternity.
I’m from New Zealand, and I’ve got to agree with Samantha that the same failures in the US Justice System exist here too.
This case is huge here, and one thing I take comfort in is the fact that those who are sentenced to a Jail term are surely “marked men”. And I hope somebody goes through with it.
At least Nia isn’t suffering anymore. What a disgusting waste of a beautiful little child.
I read that they asked the judge to hide their identity as they fear retribution. The judge denied them this… I say, bring on the retribution.
I hope they wear big name tags identifying them. but i heard that in some countries they put child killers/abusers/pedophiles in solitary confinement. hope that’s hearsay.
Here in Australia they have Protective Custody. But even there they can be ‘gotten to’.
OMG!!! As a mother I can’t imagine what these sick bastards were thinking!! I say string them up on main street and lets all have at them!!
Well, I can finally read the story, and now I almost wish that I hadn’t. And I disagree with noyou… I really liked insaneinthesfv’s idea. It’s inhumane and archiac, and I think that these pieces of shit deserve every second of it. Becuase, putting them in jail for ‘life’ is not gonna teach them the lesson they need to learn. Unless someone in prison repeatedly tortures them. :)
“The world would be a much better place without you in it.”
That’s really not necessary, how can you even find that funny!
He wrote something even more repulsive on little Baby P’s story.
This little girl is so beautiful…that poor wee mite!! Those monsters that torured her are depraved brutes!!
And L. Lort Cipe…you really are a piece of scum!
This story broke my heart, Amy is right there are THOUSANDS of children who are murdered every year as a result of child abuse in america alone. I work in the field of crime victims for Law Enforcement so I am continually updating on this information. The punishments handed down from our judicial systems rarely fit the crimes that are being committed against innocent defenseless children. Which brings me to another story.
For anyone interested there is another story our of new zealand that may be even worse than Nia’s tragic story. If you google the name “Ngatikaura Ngatithe” you will find the story about Ngati who was murdered by his parents before Nia’s death occurred. Warning !: they have released Ngati’s autopsy photo’s with many of the stories and profiles that are available on line. They are VERY GRAPHIC but clearly illustrate the level of abuse this little boy endured before his death.
The reason why I am posting this is because the person’s resonsible for Ngati’s death have recently been sentenced to a whole 8 long years in prison………. if you read his story and see the pictures you will understand what a travesty this is. I am not hopeful that Nia’s killers will get much more. :(
Ok…im gonna look it up asap and do a write up. Thanks for the info Kimi.
i looked that up and saw the pictures. it made me lose my appetite and want to vomit.
seems like child services gets paid to take children out of good homes and leave them in bad ones. has anyone heard the story of 11 month old christopher tomas, jr?
i meant thomas, wth an “h”
these stories continue to prove what a crappy job youth and family services are doing, and everytime they make a mistake that cost a child their life, they swear they’re gonna have investigations and changes, but the government never steps in and does anything REALLY serious about it. what’s the difference between the abuse the kids suffered by their family, and the abuse they suffer by the protective agencies after they’ve been “removed” from the abusive situations?
I remember this case as well, it went around as one of those “chain emails” to thousands of people around the country, autopshy photos included. Some people thought doing this was depraved and wrong, and as disturbing as it is for this poor little child, nothing else is working in stopping this kind of thing.
Too sad. Way too sad.
I did some research today, and i have got to say, i have never in my whole life seen anything as remotely disturbing as little Ngatikuara’s autopsy photos. I cant imagine i will ever forget them.
WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT THIS NUNZA????!
I’ve got an idea. It’s not really popular with a lot of people, but I feel a little more comfortable posting it on this story because, as I write this, we are still 100% hell-bound on the votes.
My proposal is this: when anyone is convicted of murdering a child, or just about any murder for that matter, instant execution occurs. The judge or jury says “guilty”, then five deputies collect the convicted, take him out back, and put a bullet in his/her brain. They can do it ‘firing squad’ style where only one deputy has an actual bullet, so none of them have to know that their bullet killed someone. It’s a quick, physically painless death. But it gets better. This is morbid, but I think it would be successful. Put the execution on pay per view. You know people would pay good money for it. Use the money to help fund rescue programs for abused children. That system would provide justice, deterrence, and cost a whole hell of a lot less.
I feel that the problem and solution can be seen with a bit of history.
In America at one time we locked the insane with the criminal, which is wrong, Our country went to great expense, and for a while, with great sucess, rehabbed the insane, or made a decent world for them.
Then the line got fuzzy and gray areas came about. Criminals, thanks to attys, took advantage of the gray areas and soon many criminals were treated with the insane.
The asylums became bad places as they were not built to be jails. Other ills of society were pushed upon the asylums and they quickly became overcrowded dangerious places.
Then the 1960’s came along and rather than look to reform the systems that started breaking down or a movement to revert things back to they way they were, many chose to go with new ideas based upon a new social agenda based on feelings.
Insane asylums started to close and people who lived in a protected world were now subject to the real world.
Now we have insane in the prisons, so what do we do?
Separate them again? Too costly, also not PC
No – we make our prisons like the asylms of 100 years ago! We try and rehab these people whie putting them in a nice place!
While there are different levels of prison, the problem is it’s now a “correctional system” not punitive system.
By reopening the asylums we could separate those who deserve rehabilitation from those who deserve punishment.
Those who abuse children, well it’s a no brainer provided you have not been to law school!
Some moments I have a million words to say… Others… I can’t even thnk of anything to type, let alone create a suitable punishment….
I’ve thought about placing them in a dryer filled with shard of broken glass… Gas dryer turned on high…
I’ve thought about placing them on a revolving clothesline inside of a razor wire pen…. We could hook up an engine to get the real high speed….
I’ve imagined chaining them under my truck and dragging them down the highway… Feet first of course…
I just can’t imagine how a parent can find humor in their child’s pain…
I say give these sub-humans a choice of execution: being burnt at the stake (a slow fire), impalement, being thrown into a wood chipper feet-first, or have your head cut off with a rusty knife, like al-kaida likes to do. Televise it so it’ll be a deterrent to others. The clean out the prisons of this kind of vermin and repeat the process.
I can’t even think of a punishment that would be harsh enough for these pathetic excuses of human beings. Scrap that. They aren’t human. They can’t be. Human’s are born with a heart.
Perhaps put them in a large kick-ass microwave and slowly zap the mthrfckrs to death. Let THEM know what it feels like to get really hot…let them cook from the inside out.
People like these disgust me.
I remember when i had my son..he was about 3 weeks old and i was home alone. He threw a MAJOR FIT while i was fixing him a bottle, and ended up scratching his face pretty good. I took one look at the blood coming from that scratch and I started bawling just like him. I scooped him up and called my mom crying cause i felt HORRIBLE! She ended up rushing home thinking it was worse than it was. Point of my rambling is i think of that moment and i wonder how ppl can be so cruel especially to their own children. God bless that beautiful baby girl.
Yeah I wondered too. How can seriously hurting your kids make any situation better. What is their logic? “If I stick my kid in boiling water, he is sure to quit crying?”
And people like these idiots, how can you not be made of pure evil to have done such things to such a beautiful little girl.
I ‘d love to live in a society that would take these jerks outside and give them lead poisoning! Child abuse, molestation, ect should not be tolerated to any degree.
No three strikes, just one! With some common sense ground rules on what constitutes as abuse, I think it would work!
For you liberals reading this, your kid acts crazy at the grocery store, and you grab them up by the back of their arm, is not abuse! Burning, lacerating, raping, breaking, kicking throwing, punching, or starving your kids is abuse. Abuse which I think wins you one bullet between the eyes. Problem solved! Who’s up for it?
Thank You! I thought I was the only one who felt like that! When im at the store and my son throws a tantrum and throws a pack of starburst at me cause i said ‘no candy’ IT IS NOT CHILD ABUSE when i snatch him up and spank him once or twice. I dont need ppl eyeing me like i nearly killed him. I could be alone here but ive seen alot worse!
Years ago when my eldest son wa four, we were at a footy match and it was pouring with rain. We had to sit in the car to watch and he was bored so he kept kicking the back of my chair. I told him a few times to knock it off and he didnt. He ended up kicking the back of my head, so i reached behimd be, pulled his shoes off and told him ” go on kick me now.” I then got out the car and put his shoes in the boot. Well did he scream a blue fit!!! The lady in the car next to me told me she writing down my number plate and was reporting me for child abuse.
I just laughed at her a flipped her the bird.
The point is tho, that some people get so worked up over the little things that they dont see when abuse is really happening.
They need to stop picking on mothers who give a tap on the bum for chucking a tanty and pay attention to the kids who really need help.
Yip there was a story here (I’m in NI) about a man in England whose son disobeyed him and ran into the road…he yelled at him and smacked him on the bum once coz the son could have been killed!! Anyway, a lady saw him and reported him to the police. He was locked up in a cell overnight!!!!
It beggars belief!!!
Thats just sad..and i cant believe they took him to jail over that! There are too many that call CPS for nothin, and too few that call when a child actually needs it.
Hi Lena – this was the story!!
Dad put in cell after smacking son on leg
Tuesday, 18 November 2008
A father has demanded an apology from police after he was arrested and locked in a cell overnight for smacking his son’s leg.
Mark Frearson said he told off his son Harry because the seven-year-old walked off alone after dark while they were out shopping.
Three hours later four police officers and a specialist child support officer arrived at his house, took Harry away in a police car, arrested Mr Frearson on suspicion of assault and locked him in a cell.
After about an hour he said officers told him they could not carry out an interview as the witness “was not in a condition to give a statement”.
Mr Frearson, a director at a parcel company, had to spend the night in the cell and was released the next day at 10am after the witness was interviewed and withdrew their accusation.
The 47-year-old has made a formal complaint to the Independent Police Complaints Commission about the ordeal.
He said yesterday the police reaction was “massively over-the-top” and the experience was traumatic for his son.
Mr Frearson, from Plymouth, Devon, said: “I find it shocking how easy it is to have someone arrested.
“To think that all this happened on the back of one allegation.
“I appreciate the police’s concern but even if they felt they had to take Harry away I don’t understand why they felt it necessary to arrest me and lock |me up before interviewing me or the witness.
“I want an apology, I wasn’t given any after being released without charge.
“I am still angry and bewildered at the events of that night.”
Mr Frearson said the incident happened last Tuesday at around 6pm.
He said it was dark and he told Harry to stay with him. When he realised he had left the shop there was a ten-minute search and he was found outside in a nearby park.
He said he smacked Harry once on the back of his leg and the two returned home.
At around 9pm police arrived saying a witness had reported Mr Frearson for “assault”.
The officers then took Harry back to his mother’s and Mr Frearson was arrested and taken to the police station.
He said: “They never even interviewed me, all they did was ask a couple of questions at the house.
“My ex-wife Kate also told them the accusation was ridiculous.
“There were about 20 people around at the time I told Harry off and CCTV, but they still locked me up.”
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall police said as a formal complaint had been made they could not comment on the incident.
Thanks for the article Claire:-) even reading it it still sounds UNBELIEVEABLE someone even reported him and that the cops picked him up and he was locked up! And children like Nia get abused for 3 years and noone comes to their rescue.
No worried Lena. :)
Yip I know…I wonder sometimes if a certain TYPE of person is easier to accuse and haul in for questioning. What I mean is, this dad was a nice, middle-class, inoffensive type of guy…not likely to give the police or any witnesses a hard time, and therefore an easy target.
In little Nia’s case, you have five hard as nails brutes to deal with…not as easy as a nice middle class daddy!! If that witness who reported the dad here saw those five smacking little Nia, I wonder if she would have been so quick to make a statement, and for the police to pursue it.
These people are the types who drag around snarling rottweilers or pitbulls while skinning up with one hand and downing a can of lager with the other…intimidating and threatening, to the police AND to witnesses.
But these are the very types the police bloody well SHOULD be after!!
“Hard as nails” not even close, that’s why they are hurting children, I’ll bet their punks when it comes to confronting a real man. However, I do get the point you were trying to make.
Thanks Penny…I sorta mean the kind of person who has NOTHING going for them…no intelligence, no compassion, no skills, no hope – so they plant a scowl on their ugly faces and swagger like they are king girl and king boy. But in actual fact, they are worthless shitbags.
I definitley see your point Claire and u probably are very right! If thats the case then some of our police forces need to grow some BALLS. Stop victimizing the innocent and take on the guilty like your supposed too!
Couldn’t say it better myself Lena!! I think as well (in this country anyway) the government is pushing the social services and the police to hit so many targets, that it’s easier for them to do this by targeting people who won’t be so much of a problem, unlike hardfaced chavs who think nothing of shanking some poor critter..even their own child.
I also think that the people that hold the positions in CPS are not in tune with what is going on in the world.
To them it is about filling out paperwork and getting paid to do it. And the less paperwork the better.
To actually DO something would take effort, and they dont want to get their hands dirty.
I do have to point out that my partner is a police officer in Rotorua, where this occured, and that him and all his collegues were disgusted and horrified with what happened, and all wanted the accused to rot in jail for a very long time. In our town, the police have already ‘grown some balls’ and take on the guilty the best way they can.
How can police deal with a problem that they do not know exists? Perhaps if the cowardly neighbours who heard Nia screaming and crying (and saw her being abused) had thought to call the police, then something could have been done to save this poor child.
Your right Samantha. They all turned their back on this little girl. Anyone of them could have done something.
I have found the police in my town to be better at handling reports of child abuse than CPS are. That is why whenever i suspect abuse, i report it to CPS because that is the correct channel to go through. But i follow it up with a visit to the Police Station where they take a statement and follow up.
Okay good points Samantha and Amy:) that is why I said ’some’ police and not all. Maybe i shouldve directed my frustration more toward the police in the story Claire mentioned.
WTF?!?!?!
Poor baby, RIP Nia angel.
OMG!
A lot of these stories on here touch me deeply, and hurt me as well. This one actually made me cry. My prayers go up for this little girl.
Lol look at all these fugley people, not only do they all need to get the death penalty for what they did but so that i dont have to see a monkeys ass everytime i look at a picture of them. If you look closely at the middle photo (They look female) i think i can see the beginnings of a moustache
She does have a manly look about her…
In an update to this story, the FATHER of Wiremu and Michael Curtis, has been found guilty of abusing Nia too:
The father of two men who murdered Nia Glassie was last night convicted of eight charges of assaulting the Rotorua toddler.
William Warena Curtis had denied all the charges but was convicted by a jury which took four hours to deliver its verdict.
He was remanded in custody until sentencing in January.
Evidence in the case hinged on the testimony of Curtis’ daughter, Hoana, who said she saw her father repeatedly abuse Nia between March and July last year.
During this time, Nia – who was murdered by Curtis’ sons Wiremu and Michael – was living at the same one-bedroom flat as the 49-year-old, and Hoana said he would slam Nia into walls, push her, and hit her across the face.
The 17-year-old avoided looking at her father while she gave evidence, pulling her jacket up against her face to shield him from view.
She said he would sometimes make Nia’s lip bleed and would swear at the 3-year-old, once telling her to “shut the f*** up or he would stomp on her face”.
The worst incident Hoana witnessed involved Curtis strangling Nia with a scarf.
She said he wrapped the scarf around Nia’s neck two or three times, then lifted her off the ground and held her in the air for 10 seconds.
“Her face turned purple and then he chucked her to the ground.”
Upset by the incident, Hoana told Curtis she would stab him if he did it again. “He said I was a little bitch and he’d do it to me as well.”
Under cross-examination, she admitted she had issues with her father and had lied to police about a conversation relating to Nia’s murder. She also admitted being expelled from high school for smoking cannabis and cigarettes – all of which the defence said undermined her credibility.
Nia died on August 3 last year after being kicked in the head by Wiremu and Michael Curtis. Her mother Lisa Kuka was found guilty of her manslaughter, and two others were convicted of cruelty and assaults

Thanks for the updated info Samantha, and welcome to PYSIH

Thanks for the info Samantha, your input is valued.
Opens your eyes as to why the sons thought it was ok to abuse the poor child. Their dad probably did the same to them.
No excuses though. If you aske me that makes what they did even worse. They knew first hand what its like to be abused and then inflicted that pain onto someone else.
Kudos to Hoana who had the guts to stand up and speak out. That must have taken a lot of courage for her to do.
I didn’t catch your post, I just posted about the dad…I think when I got back to pysih I was blind with rage, I didn’t see anything but RED!!!!
he’ll be out in two years, right? we can see wher his asshole sons learned from.
seriously, like her name is a disgrace, her face is a disgrace, her actions are a disgrace and she is a waste of fuhreaking human space.
Who are you talking about?
Probably Lisa since they share the name.
I think that all five of them are a damn disgrace…
Agreed.
Furthermore than a disgrace, they’re utter scum. Filth! I don’t know about New Zealander prisons, but here in the UK I wouldn’t want to be in their shoes.
I hope they’re all beaten ti an inch of their lives and then some. This has to be one of the most upsetting stories I’ve ever read. It ranks along side the Shanda Renee Sharer crime.
How can somebody harm a child, in this horrible way? I cannot conceive it! OMG!!! MONSTERS!!
Yeah i agree. But it seems to happen more and more. the more services we get to combat the problem, the bigger the problem seems to get. there seems to be no way to protect kids like Nia. All the officials bury their heads in the sand. the politicians make promises they dont deliver on and parents seem to care less and less.
ok, they had way too much time on their hands to be victimizing a toddler…and were sick enough to enjoy it…and what is that? alot of other family members were AWARE of it?? what gives???
Sounds like a twisted abusive lair of people….TWISTED to the utmost degree!! TWISTED, i said!
Twisted, you say?
Twisted, you say?
Family members and neighbours.
And i agree with you whole heartedly …TWISTED!!
i’m angry!!! only evil laughs at pain being inflicted on another…only evil enjoys it….only evil finds satisfaction and relief from it…
they all look psycho and stupid as if they got something to be proud about..never thought i would say this but, “up yours”….up your snotty noses…
The brothers convicted of murdering three-year-old Nia Glassie have been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum non-parole period of 17-and-half years.
Justice Judith Potter had to ask a packed public gallery to quieten down as she read out the sentences for Wiremu Curtis, 19, and Michael Curtis, 22, in the High Court at Rotorua today.
An auntie of Nia, Paki Rapana, yelled “Rot in hell you baby-killers, bastards” as she left the courtroom.
Nia’s mother, 35-year-old Lisa Kuka, who was last year found guilty on two manslaughter charges was sentenced to nine years imprisonment.
“She chose to ignore the risk to which her three-year-old daughter was exposed to,” Justice Potter said.
“It was her decision to leave Nia and her other two children in the care of her 17-year-old partner Wiremu Curtis and the other occupants of 13D Frank Street.
“Lisa Kuka was the only person Nia could look to for care and she failed her, utterley.”
Nine years for sitting back and having a good giggle while your daughter is tourtured and tormented. It just belies all reason.
How the hell is nine years in any way justice?
I have reached the conclusion that NZ is as bad as Australia and England when it comes to their sentencing guidelines. Its pathetic to say the least.
I was reading about NZ homicides and found little Ngatikaura Ngati and Nia Glassie story’s I had seen once again, they’re storeys are both so horrifying and lead me back to PYSIH.
I had seen Nia’s story and picture before but like her cowardly neighbours, I was to afraid to read her story in it’s entirety well tonight I did it and I am beyond enraged! Amy I totally understand you breaking a Sharpie, I am grinding my teeth to pulp as I type right now! Thank you for covering it here Amy, it’s a story that needed to be told and I am certain it was no easy task, I feel like going fucking berserk myself right now.
Just before I made my way back to PYSIH I read plenty, This paragraph particularly made me want to get on the next plane to NZ and go ape shit…
“The neighbours were too scared to speak to 3 News on camera, but they say they often heard the little girl crying.
Last Friday they saw her on the roof, terrified and screaming but they did not call the police.
It was not until Sunday – more than 36 hours later – that Nia was taken to Rotorua Hospital.
She had abdominal injuries and bleeding to her brain.”
I seriously can’t believe my eyes…They saw her on the roof, terrified and screaming but they did not call the police!!!!!
Since I can’t get on a plane I google Earthed the place, seen the home there and other pictures…The roof is pointed!!
I would be terrified too, omg I am seeing a 3 year old scared out of her mind clutching on to it with all of her tiny might and my hair is literally standing on end, it harrowing just to imagine it..but to witness it first hand how could those people do nothing???
I ask, how could these people all treat this baby so disgustingly, how?
another article gave me this putrid answer-
“No one seems to know why all these people targeted little Nia for so long. The only excuse one of the accused told police that Nia was repeatedly abused at her Rotorua home because she had an “ugly face”.
Wow. I am so ashamed these creatures are considered human, right now I don’t want to share their species.
Below is some other crap I found that you might find interesting, disgusting but interesting story wise.

. . . Nia’s tormentor gets four years in jail for ‘inexplicable violence’ . . .
New Zealand Herald, Article date: Feb 14, 2009
A judge took only 10 minutes yesterday to decide the fate of the man who abused 3-year-old Nia Glassie, sentencing him to four years in prison for “inexplicable and incomprehensible violence”.
The father of the two men who murdered the toddler showed no emotion in the Rotorua District Court as Judge Phillip Cooper set the punishment.
Dressed in black clothing and wearing his signature mullet haircut, William Curtis smiled and waved at two relatives sitting in the public gallery. He stood in the dock flanked by two Corrections officers.
Curtis’s sons Michael and Wiremu were last week sentenced to 17 years for murdering the toddler.
Her death followed months of torment, which included putting her in a tumble drier and spinning her on a clothes line at a house on Frank St, Rotorua, where the two men, Nia and her mother Lisa Kuka – Wiremu’s partner – lived with several others.
William Curtis committed his abuse earlier, when the family lived at his house on James St.
Justice Judith Potter last week took most of the day to sentence the Curtis brothers, Kuka and two others – Oriwa Kemp and Michael Pearson – on various charges.
But yesterday the sentencing of William Curtis was over so quickly that several of the 50-year-old’s family members did not get to the court room before it was over, leaving his partner Mary outside asking, “What did he get?”
Curtis had denied eight assault charges but was found guilty by a jury in December.
Yesterday, he was sentenced to three years in jail on the main charge of assault with a weapon – he wrapped a scarf around Nia’s neck and held her off the ground for 10 seconds, making her face go purple – and a year for the other charges. The two terms are to be served cumulatively.
The court earlier heard that Curtis had back-handed Nia, making her lip bleed, pushed her to the ground and towards a wall and threatened to stomp on her head.
Defence lawyer Harry Edwards said there was no dispute his client should receive at least three years for the lead charge – which carries a maximum sentence of five.
But he asked the judge to take into account when considering penalties for the other seven charges the fact that Curtis’s previous convictions were not for violence offences but drink-driving and dishonesty offences.
Crown prosecutor Amanda Gordon said the sentence needed to reflect the severity of the offending.
“There was no reason for the assault. Nia was simply sitting or playing, doing nothing to inspire any anger from the prisoner.”
Judge Cooper said Curtis was a step-grandfather to Nia and she was entitled to be nurtured.
“He seems to think violence against a child is acceptable.”
And he told Curtis: “For no apparent reason you would walk over to her and push her to the ground. This would happen often. This child was in your house. She was defenceless and vulnerable. She was the target of inexplicable and incomprehensible violence.”

Note this Mother of the year chain of events following Nia’s death . . .
– Aug 05, 2007 –
(CYF seized Nia’s sibling after injuries)
Two of Kuka’s other children were taken into Child Youth and Family custody and placed in the care of extended family after Nia was hospitalised 12 days ago. They are believed to have witnessed some of the abuse on their sister.
For her part, Kuka refused to say whether she was still in a relationship with Wiremu Curtis, telling the Herald on Sunday in a text message: “Im strong 4 my gurl we bth r.”But Kuka told the Sunday Star Times she was “angry and hurting” and wanted “the mongrels” who tortured her little girl to pay for her death. In a text message to the Herald on Sunday last week, she said: “People out thea dat know me know dat I love and care 4 my babi wif al my heart.”
“I’m angry there’s nothing being done about the mongrels that did this. Them being locked up means nothing to me. I’m just so upset because nothing has been done to them yet.”She felt like she was paying for their crime, she said.
– Sep 16, 2007 –
(Sisters of Nia deserted by mother)
The two sisters of slain toddler Nia Glassie have been deserted by their mother – and their father has also returned home to Australia.
No one knows where Lisa Kuka was or what she might have been doing that was more important, but the Herald on Sunday can confirm she was a no-show at crucial discussions to decide the fate of Jessie, 10, and Esther, 8 – the two children who witnessed the alleged abuse of Nia.
Last month, CYF called a meeting to discuss Kuka having supervised access to the two children, but she did not turn up. A Family Group conference was then called a fortnight ago and again Kuka was a no-show.It is understood she also did not respond to numerous phone calls from CYF.
– Oct 24, 2007 –
Lisa Kuka wore a bright yellow T-shirt with the words “Baby Nia 4 eva” emblazoned on the back at her first appearance with her co-accused since she was charged on October 9.
_________________________________________________
– Child Youth and Family had seized one of Lisa Kuka’s children after the child suffered non-accidental head injury 5 years prior, but there were no follow-up checks on other children. That child along with two other children (who family placed in care) reside with Kuka’s Aunt.
– CYF investigated allegations of sexual abuse in the household of co-accused Wiremu and William Curtis.
– Wiremu Curtis was only 15 when he began a relationship with Nia’s mother, then 32-year-old Lisa Kuka.
– Co-accused Oriwa Kemp has a 2-year-old child and associations with the Black Power gang.

(So speaking of Oriwa Kemp here’s something on her as well:)
Tuesday, June 30, 2009 – Article -Lock up your children!
We’ll say it again – lock up your children, if you live in Rotorua. “Why?” you ask. Because Stuff reports that Oriwa Kemp, one of those convicted and imprisoned for the horrific abuse against Nia Glassie is being freed from prison. Kemp has served two years of her three year, four month sentence, even though it is only five months since she was sentenced.

So basically we have
* Monster Sr. abusing Nia too and getting a slap on the wrist
* Mommy already abusing kids, one hurt 5 years ago-taken by CYF. 2 other taken by family because she sucks as a Mother
* Sexual abuse was going on as well as everything else by Wiremu and William Curtis
* Mommy is a rapist too since she shacked up with Wiremu when he was 15
* Oriwa Kemp already released to be free to take her own baby around members of the Black Power gang.
A am so disgusted right now I can’t see straight. There isn’t one shred of this story that does not fill me with revulsion.
