Vincent Brothers

This is 46 year old Vincent Brothers, of Bakersfield, California.

Vincent Brothers had a great job as the vice-principal at the Fremont School, an adoring wife Joanie Harper, and three beautiful children- 4 year old Marques, 23 month old Lyndsey, and 6 week old Marshall. Seems like your average guy, right? Wrong. What makes Vincent different is the fact that he savagely murdered 5 members of his family, including his own innocent children, in cold blood.

The relationship between Vincent and Joanie had not been without it’s share of troubles. Joanie gave birth to Marques Juwan in 1998 (Vincent was not present for his birth) and the two married in 2000. Despite separating a month later, Joanie gave birth to Lyndsey Michelle later that year (Vincent was again absent from the delivery).

The marriage was annulled in 2001, with Vincent Brothers citing irreconcilable differences and Joanie citing fraud, allegedly because at the time of marriage, she had no knowledge of Vincent’s two previous marriages. Despite all the ups and downs, friends and family members all agree that Joanie loved Vincent deeply and was eager to for them to be a family, and they continued to have an on and off relationship. Most people never knew about Vincent’s Jekyll-and-Hyde personality, and those who did certainly never knew the extent of his capabilities.

In January, 2003, Joanie and Vincent remarried, and in May baby Marshall was born. Although Vincent had moved out of the family’s home in April due to discord between he and his mother-in-law Earnestine, he was present for Marshall’s birth and for a little while, things seemed fine. On July 6, 2003, Joanie, her mother Earnestine and the three children attended church services. Although Vincent had left town 4 days prior to visit family in Ohio, it was a special day, with Joanie showing off Marshall to church members for the first time.

After morning services, the Harpers met up with friends, including Joanie’s best friend Kelsey Spann, for lunch then went home to rest until evening services. They never made those evening services.

After calls from friends and family went unanswered, Kelsey decided to stop by the house. She hadn’t seen Joanie since two days earlier and it was unlike Joanie to ignore her calls. Although the house looked fine from the outside, Kelsey found that the door wouldn’t open after she’d used her key to unlock it, so she went around to the patio door and finding it unlocked, let herself in. Her panicked call to 911 came in just after 7 a.m. and police arrived within minutes to find a house of horror.

First, police found Earnestine. She had been shot twice in the face at close range and was laying in the hallway near her bedroom. In another bedroom, police found the bodies of Joanie and the children, still laying in the same spots they had lain Sunday to nap after church.

Joanie was found face-down on her bed, dead from several bullet and stab wounds to her head, chest and back. Lyndsey lay on her left side at the foot of the bed in her little blue dress. She had been killed with a single gunshot wound to the back. Marques was beside his mother on the bed and was covered by a sheet. Police theorize that he awakened before the murders. He was found with his eyes open and a gunshot wound to the right side of the head. Authorities say he had been so frightened immediately before his death, that he had bitten his right hand down to the bone.

Marshall was thought to be missing, but after a search, he was found under a pillow near his mother. He had been shot in the back, just as his sister had.

Police tracked down Vincent Brothers at his mother’s home in North Carolina and broke the news about his family’s murders. Although he was the only person suspected of the crime, he had left for vacation four days prior to the murders and police couldn’t immediately disprove this alibi.

However, a neighbor in Bakersfield reported seeing Vincent near the Harper home around the time of the murders. Rental records for the car Vincent rented in Ohio showed that he put 5,400 miles on it, which was more than enough to travel from Ohio to California and back.

In addition, entomologist who examined the car found bug parts from species only found west of the Rocky Mountains, although Vincent maintained he had never left the eastern part of the country.

One of his alibis was a pair of store receipts for items bought in North Caroline on the day of the murders. Upon examination of those credit card receipts and store surveillance, it was found that Vincent’s brother Melvin had been using Vincent’s card and forging his signature. Initially, Melvin lied when confronted about it, but later admitted that he had done so at Vincent’s urging.

The prosecution alleged that Vincent had carried on several extramarital relationships and that his motive for the killings was greed; Vincent had wanted to relieve himself of the burden of supporting his growing family.

On May 15, 2007 Vincent Brothers was found guilty of five counts of first degree murder and a special circumstance of multiple murders and on September 27th he was sentenced to Death by Lethal Injection by Judge Michael Bush.

I don’t know what to say. Kill him someone. ..Please! He NEEDS to meet Satan ASAP! This story hurts me just reading it so I can’t begin to imagine how the friends and family of the victims feel.

Let he who as no sin cast the first stone
I believe they have the wrong person and the killer is still out there.

• Southern Lady says:

I don’t believe in your Jesus platitude, so I’ll be happy to throw the first boulder, by catapult if necessary.

(No offense to Christian bloggers, but there’s no reason for such words to be thrown out under such circumstances. This one is as bad as Judge not…)

• Max The Cat says:

Is that so Jeff? And what do you base your conclusion on? Did Jesus send one of the Angels down from heaven to tell you that Vincent Brothers was innocent? Did God speak to you directly and demand that you preach the truth to us heathen?

I think it would have been a lot easier for God to get Vincent off thew hook by making all the evidence against him disappear. You remember the evidence, don’t you Jeff? All the lies his family told about his whereabouts during the weekend of the murder? The mileage on Vinny’s rental car? The bugs on the car’s radiator that could only have come from area’s far west of Ohio at the time of the murder? All those people who saw Vincent in California on the day of the murder? The fingerprint of the vinyl glove? His brother using Vincent’s credit card and signing Vincents name, following Vincent’s instructions. The huge lie that Vincent told about being in a car accident in Ohio – wasn’t he caught red-handed in that lie when detectives found the real driver of the car that was involved?

Jesus, I think somebody lied to you Jeff. I don’t think it was God that was telling you Vinny was innocent, since God went to so much trouble making sure he would be convicted.

I worked with this bastard for two years, and had a few run ins with him. Most at the school knew about his affairs, and I knew one teacher who personally told me intimate details.

Definately dual personalities. He could yell at you in his office one minute (with intent rage), then later that evening introduce you to a parent like you were the best teacher at the school. One of the reasons I transfered quickly from there.

I figure he could’ve just as easily been a politician as a murderer.
Guess he didn’t quite reach escape velocity from the ghetto….

• Ary says:

Exactly. People like ‘White Male’ will make anything racial. Vincent Brothers is evil for doing this, and he’s getting what he deserves, but what about all the WHITE MEN that murder in cold blood? How about Scott Peterson? Charles Manson? As a matter of fact, 68% of serial killers in good ol’ Uh-merica are white. And most of them are highly educated, including Vincent Brothers. So, what were you saying about the ghetto, you racist pr**k?

The man has the gradually sinking feeling that his role as provider, the definitive male activity from the primal days of the hunt through the industrial revolution and on into modern life, has been largely seized from him; he has been cuckolded by the compassionate state.

OMG!!! Those poor babies. There are just no words.

I woulcn’t feel any guilt watching this a-hole being juiced! He is pure evil! Pure filth! How a “monster” like him could sit there looking so demure, so innocent knowing all the while that he slaughtered five people. All in the name of greed. Well Mr. Brothers, it’s time to pay the piper! I hope and pray there is an all-forgiving God. One who can forgive you Mr. Brothers, for all of what you have done!!!!

3. Kathy says:

Did the court get a psychiatrist to examine this man? He must have been psychotic to think he could get away with killing 5 family members. And he was a vice principle of a high school ????? And his motive was that he wanted to be relieved of the burden of supporting his family??? Yikes.

• Amy says:

So the reason was to save some $$$.
That just makes his actions worse. How do you put a price on your children?
Im gobsmacked. I hope the bastard rots in hell.

4. Dude says:

Sorry to nitpick, but its entomologist, not etymologist

5. Fred says:

As horrible as this is, it sounds like most died quickly. Some ofthe other stories have people being burned to death.
So I will go easy on this POS – firing squad. Quick, easy, and gone.
Little to say, little needs to be done, it’s just that simple

• YOUR DAD LICKS MY BALLS says:

The little boy bit clear down to the bone out of fear? Quick? No no no……torture him. Put him in a cell with the Uki boys.

• Fred says:

You’re right on the story – someone was tortured in some way. I read thru many stories and my point is that I failed to make is that this guy is cold he killed them quickly for the most part.
In other stories, the victims were set on fire….

I am not advocating that this POS deserves a quick death, but I am advocating putting him to death quickly.

Seems to me in the USA we are so concerned that the criminal may experience some pain on the way to hell! What’s another 10 seconds of pain esp when looking at burning for the rest of eternety?

At the rate we are going, the only way we will be able to kill a crimonal may be to feed the bastard big Macs and let them have a heart attack!

• eternal says:

y.d.l.m.b.- exactly. in no way was that a quick ordeal for at least one of those innocent children, and honestly, there’s no telling how long it took the younger two to die from gunshot wounds to the back. vincent doesn’t deserve anything quick and easy. i hope his suffering is long and drawn out over years and i hope he sees his babies every minute of it. and not as they were in life. i hope when they haunt him, he sees the end result of what he did to them and it eats him from the inside out. he needs hell on earth.

but someone as twisted as him probably breathes easy every night.

• whiteiris says:

Hey um…YOUR DAD LICKS MY BALLS, I am going to have to come back to your comment later. I am still having a bit of a hard time getting past your username. :o) Okay…

6. Gambler says:

Lol if his skin was a bit more white he would look like that phycho killer from the T.V. show Boston Legal.

7. Penny says:

I guess the mother could not have known what he was capable of. I just wished people could realize there is true happiness out there and not to settle for crap from anyone. Sure wished she would have kicked him to the curb in the beginning. I’ll bet if not for her, it would have been another mother though. The guy is a special kind of evil to shoot your own children. I hope their faces come to him every time he shuts his eyes, and never allow him a moment of rest.

• Fred says:

this guy sounds so cold that it would not matter.
Just cremate him alive – why waste the time killing him with drugs – the creamation will kill him and get rid of his corpse.

• Penny says:

good point fred, I guess if he didnt care enough about them not to kill them, then it probably wouldn’t let his actions cause him to loose any sleep. He’s a demon and his mind doesn’t work like the rest of ours!

___________________________________________________
This guy had rage and I could feel it as I read the story. Nice write-up eternal! I really could feel his rage.

I bet the mother-in-law got it first…don’t they all?

V man, you should have used some prevention like a condom or having the wife get that shot (no pun intended). Ironically, YOU will get the shot so you won’t be making babies anymore. :)

Oh and a Bush sent you to hell lol

• eternal says:

thanks, turtle. actually, what you felt was MY rage. i started this one 2 weeks ago and lost a lot of sleep over it, especially knowing what poor marques’s last moments must’ve been like, so afraid and alone, knowing what his father did and what he was going to do…

that being said, i hate vincent brothers and all he stands for. to say that i want him to suffer as the harpers suffered and then burn in hell would be a serious understatement!

• eternal says:

and although i’m not 100% sure who he killed first, i believe it was earnestine. the articles made it seem that way, as did the story as it was told when i saw it featured on t.v.

• TurtleMania says:

Hehehehe. No eternal. It was his rage not yours.

Here’s why:

“The marriage was annulled in 2001, with Vincent Brothers citing irreconcilable differences and Joanie citing fraud…”

“and those who did certainly never knew the extent of his capabilities.”

“Although Vincent had moved out of the family’s home in April due to discord between he and his mother-in-law Earnestine…”

“The relationship between Vincent and Joanie had not been without it’s share of troubles.”

“Joanie gave birth to Marques Juwan in 1998 (Vincent was not present for his birth)”

“Lyndsey Michelle later that year (Vincent was again absent from the delivery).”

“First, police found Earnestine. She had been shot twice in the face at close range…”

These words helped build the “monster”. And through those words I was able to be in his rage as he entered that house looking to end it all. It’s hard to explain.

But if it were YOUR rage, it probably would’ve been you throwing barbs at him in your story. …something that you didn’t do.

You get what I mean? I could go into more detail.

• eternal says:

oh, yes, i get you now. it was quite hard to refrain from throwing barbs at him. i’m glad you picked up on that stuff. the point i wanted to make was that he was a monster all along, but no one saw it until it was too late. but i tried hard to be objective and leave my opinion out because stormy said my last story was too emotional and i shouldn’t try to sway the readers with my personal feelings.

so this time i tried to detach myself while writing. i wasn’t successful though. i’m still not sleeping well. i keep thinking of marques huddled under the covers, biting his little hand, hoping everytime he blinks that when he opens his eyes, the boogeyman will be gone… but he wasn’t :(

• whiteiris says:

I as well enjoy this story. I infact had to scroll down to confirm it was your story mid-way through.

I liked the disconnect…It is how we were able to get a better mental picture.

It’s not like you were an emotional basket case on the others, just a different style that’s all.

Thanks for flexing your style, it is appreciated…however the other style is cool as well, well put together either way.

My littlest one told me she loves me today.
I wonder if Vincent has any idea what he’s missing.

The best feeling in the whole world is when my youngest climbs into bed beside me in the mornig, wraps his arms so tightly around my neck i can barely breathe and says, ” your my huggy bear mummy.Squeeze my guts out.”
Not only does he not care what he is missing…he doesnt even care.
He should be happy now, there are no financial responsibilities in prison. Tax payers will provide his food and lodging right up until he takes his last breath. Ill gladly pay for his injection.

• Mulch says:

I spent the weekend with my daughter. She showed me her last report card and she had a bad grade in math. Well we had our little talk and I had to take away her internet access. She told me she hated me and all that.

20 min later she came back, said she was sorry and that she loved me very much.

Later that day a friend of hers came over and she told her friend that I am the best dad in the whole world.

People you can take all the drugs you want. There is no better “high” than that. I was walking on clouds the rest of the weekend!

• Missy says:

i don’t have any kids of my own yet but i do have custody of my 11yr old nephew. he was in an abusive home w/ his mom and it took me years upon years to finally win custody of this little boy. We have always been close and I have always been a part of his life but he only moved in full time nov. 10th of this year so we are still working through the transition but just last night he grabbed me and said “i love you so much, give me your leg and let me squeeze it” haha I can tell he is so thankful to be out of that house and in a caring loving one. he tells me at least 33-40 times a day that he loves me and when i say i love you too he asks me why. he needs constant reassurance which breaks my heart because i know whatever his mom did to him had affected him greatly. These poor babies in all of these stories go through this as well and it saddens me that there isn’t anyone out there to save them. I thank God daily that he gave me what i needed to save my nephew.

• Amy says:

My kids tell me on a regular basis that they hate me lol. If i send their friends home for bad behaviour, they hate me. If i make them eat their vege’s, they hate me. If i take away TV veiwing, they hate me. If i send them to their room, they hate me.
But they love me, and i know its only words. My usual reply to ‘i hate you,’ is ,’really, thats sad, cause i adore you.’

• whiteiris says:

I don’t believe Vincent realizes what he is and will be missing…He probably just blocked everyone (his family) out during their short lifes and encounters together…Life being just a blur, moving quickly around him…I imagine the only real thing grasping his attention would have been the other woman he had relations with. Making his family just a hinderence, an interuption to his corrupt process.

His one tracked mind destined to get rid of the wife, and kids finally snapped into action…He never cared.

11. TurtleMania says:

Hollywood could turn this into a movie.
But in the end, V Man suffers a more violent death than a sissy needle.

Here’s my take on his ending:

V Man is caught in a high speed chase with the police. He’s going down one way streets, knocking over mailboxes, and crashing recycle bins etc. So now they’re in a residential area with V well in the lead. All of the sudden he takes his eyes off the road and crashes into a car thus ejecting him from the car (wear your seatbelts folks). He immediately finds his way into a roaring tree cutter/shred machine conveniently parked on the street side.

This interupts the men working and they watch in absolute horror as V Man violently shakes and screams as he gets shredded into little pieces and his chunks blown out the tall snout on the other end of the machine.

• Fred says:

And then the lawyers show up, hit the stop button and sues all tose involved. V-Man becomes almost as rich as Donald Trump.

Sorry to spoil a good dream with the reality of a lawyer….

• TurtleMania says:

Hey – it’s a movie Fred lol

You’re a funny guy with your “lawyer” thing.
I should have known. :)

• Fred says:

At some point there is a lawyer whose story needs to go in here. I need to do some research and calm myself becasuse at this point I’d waste too many bits & bytes with 4 letter words!

• eternal says:

really fred. i don’t understand how these lawyers sleeo at night, defending shit like vincent brothers and the edenfields. if i was a lawyer, there would be no amount of money that would make me take them. it’d be too dirty to me.

and if i worked for the county and the court appointed me, i’d quit.

12. eternal says:

who the hell keeps voting no? i really just want to know why not?

• TurtleMania says:

Lesson number one – never make out with a guy missing his eyebrows.

That’s a no brainer

• Amy says:

I know a lady with no eyebrows. She shaved them off to look cool for a David Bowie concert when she was a teen, and they never grew back, lol. Now she pencils them on with blue eyeliner. It looks really bad and the kids know her as ‘the eyebrow lady.’

• TurtleMania says:

Eyeliner? She should use her pubic hairs.

• Amy says:

HAhahaha, i should suggest that to her

• diana says:

Why… blue? What in the hell would make her use BLUE for her eyebrows?!

• Amy says:

Who knows…she is, how do i put this nicely? She is a very special kind of a person.
Ya gotta see her to believe her. Her makes up makes her look like a drag queen…actaully i have seen better looking drag queens.

• whiteiris says:

What’s up with the tattooed on brows?
You would think it would be an old lady thing, but this gal I know just got it done…Funny thing is she’s blond, naturally, so they are all like orangeish. (she’s an excop, actually, fired for not turning in her lesbian lover for having an illegal weapon…part that sucks, is she is a great person who did not deserve to loose her job, she was the one that turned her in and arrested her. Because it took her 7 days to do so, they felt she was guilty as well. Poor her, hey she has her eyebrows…tatooed on forever. That’s something :o( ) Nothing to do with her eyebrows, I know. Her story is just interesting to me, + Coffee = Countless Words :o)

:o) I love eyebrows…Speaking of eyebrows, Edward Cullen the character from Twilight, OMG best eyebrows ever! If I must, his real name is Robert Pattinson, owner of the edible eyebrows!

13. Kim says:

People voted No to hell for this guy. Losers. He will ROT there if there is any justice in the after-life. I can’t imagine what in God’s name a tiny baby did to this man to make him shoot him. I keep picturing that poor darling in my mind and it makes me cry every time. The little girl in her blue dress shot in the back. What a fucking low-life coward to shoot helpless infants IN THE FUCKING BACK!!!! It’s wrong to hate people I’ve been told, but who cares. I HATE THIS GUY WITH ALL MY HEART!!!!

14. The Danger Zone says:

What the fuck. I am so sick and tired of the “No” Option actually working for these cunt scabs. We should set it up so when they push NO they get Anti-Virus2009 downloaded onto their computer….

Then the computer will begin to shoot flames with each key stroke… Douse them with gasoline & shove a grenade up their ass!!!

I’m so pissed at these 5 fuck crusts that I can’t even think about this hemrhoid scab right now.

• eternal says:

i feel the same way but i would never have been able to express it as eloquently as you. it’s probably the racist trolls. there have been quite a few “no” votes on this and the edenfield post as well. but i have noticed that in the latest stories about the white children, the votes for hell have been unanimous. i’m not one of those people who likes to throw around the race card, but with people making comments like the ones that were made about christopher in the edenfield post, i stand behind my theory.

hey danger zone; iread about guys like you. during the nazi era!

15. Sherry says:

Lethal injection is so easy for this peice of shit. At least the little ones would have had a chance to grow into someone worth something. Maybe. Vincent Brothers should have stayed in the ghetto. I can’t even imagine that he was in a school surrounded by children on a daily basis!

Everytime I see his picture I think to myself, “He has some big ‘ol soup coolers!”

• eternal says:

sherry, what is wrong with you? seriously, i don’t want to hate you, especially since you’re correct on the fact that vincent does deserve to die.

but does everything you say have to have such racist undertones? i don’t know if i should feel bad for you and overlook it because you don’t know any better, or smack you because you’re doing it purposely to rile us.

remember, human shitstains come in ALL colors. white is no exception.

• Sherry says:

There you are my little dingleberry!

I’m sorry my opinion bothers you so much. A lot of the diarrhea that comes out of your face makes me want to shove my fist down your neck but you don’t see me following you around commenting on everything you say. I ignore you. Try it.

Run along now….

see what happens when i try to be nice to you, you fucking ugly, fat ass racist meth-head cunt bitch? i’ll be sure that never happens again. it’s not your opinion that bothers me, you idiot twat. i guess your low i.q. makes you incapable of comprehending that, no matter how many times i express it to you. but i now have my answer loud and clear- you DO do this shit to ruffle feathers. but you probably can’t help it. your yokel mother was too busy giving blowjobs to your uncles for the spare change needed to feed you 10 times a day to pay you any real attention. that’s why you seek it out so actively here. it’s obvious by your choice of this story to comment on, even though you swore ages ago you would give a wide berth (sort of like you wide ass, only a tad smaller) to anything i had to say. you just couldn’t help yourself here. you crave eternal. so there, i’ll admit it- you tricked me into thinking you had a shred of decency and a half a shred of intelligence so i actually tried to have a civil conversation with you. i hope you feel special and validated :) but only momentarily because it won’t happen again. even if YOU do hunt down EVERYTHING that I write, evident once again by your presence here.

now go choke back some shit and die, you miserable cross burning bitch. you are a lost cause and i’m done with you.

• eternal says:

oh, btw, thanks for being my proof that human shitstains also come in the color white :D

i could say it a million times, but it takes you opening you penishole to really drive the point home!

and NOW you are dismissed.

• whiteiris says:

God Sherry, I don’t think anyone is trying to follow you around. It’s just some of your comments are so intolerable something has got to give…

Last time I called you out on being such an evil bitch it seemed to work for awhile. Let’s try it again. “Sherry you are an evil bitch.” I can feel it in my bones…

You are that fucked up lady that does not let anyone in on the road (it’s why we don’t use blinkers in CO), not cool what so ever…right now I am actually imagining you as that crazy bitch that just tried to get Adolf Hitler on her son’s 3rd birthday cake (it’s his fucked up name). Oh, yeah they have a daughter named Joycelynn Aryan Nation too! Ha ha. That’s you Sherry…:o)

Why don’t you explain to us exactly what you mean by “He has some big ‘ol soup coolers!” so you most of all can reflect upon your awful words once again.

• Max The Cat says:

Yes Sherry, I’ve reserved saying anything about your comments because I thought you might just be a bit misguided, but probably not an openly racist person. And in a way I was right. (Please forgive me for being blunt, but I don’t know any other way to be.) You’re much, much worse than that. You’re only difference between you and a card carrying member of the Knights of the Klu Klux Klan is the KKK guy knows where he stands and doesn’t pretend to be anything else. But you, I can almost hear you protest, “But some of my best friends are Black!”. You hide your brand of racism behind alot of liberal BS and pat yourself on the back for being so “tolerant” of people of color.
Tolerant. now there’s a word that can have a bunch of different meanings, but I’ve come to believe in the world of racial relations it’s had it’s day. Being “tolerant” of my Black neighbor sounds great until one really thinks about it. What am I supposed to be tolerating? His dark skin? Is he less than a human being than the great white I Am, so I allow him the privilege to live next door to me? It’s a bullshit concept and I don’t like the idea it conjures up in my mind.
So that’s my opinion Sherry, for what it’s worth. I don’t believe I know everything, but I’ve been down the road you’re on now, and I hope you take some time for self examination, and maybe open your mind to some different ideas. I really like eternal, as a person, and you might go back and re-read some of her replies to you. I don’t see her caring enough about everyone that comes along to bother trying to get through to them like she’s tried to do with you. I think possibly she saw the potential I see for a formidable person, if only you’d let go of some an antiquated and, frankly, ignorant principles you probably learned during childhood (as I did).

• Sherry says:

It doesn’t matter to me what any of you think about me. eternal, you called me a shitstain. How was that being nice? Yes, part of your post was nice and I appreciate that.

So I don’t have to further explain this, see my reply to whiteiris in the Cassandra whats-her-face article.

I PROMISE I WILL NO LONGER MAKE RACIAL COMMENTS OUT OF RESPECT FOR EVERYONE ELSE’S FEELINGS.

just like the wind does not think about what house to blow down.
he would only have a responce to these murders, if it was someone
else that had killed their family. a lion does not have remorse about eating its cub, the river does not have shame about drowing someones child, and fire does not weep when it burns a mother to death. remember satan has his people here also.
vincent brothers was one of satans special children

20. USS Yorktown says:

Just saw this story on Dateline. Very sad and sick. Vincent Brothers has a spot in Hell for sure with the likes of Eric Harris/Dylan Klebold, Ted Bundy, and 9/11 Terrorists. Worthless is thy name.

21. JS says:

Im not convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is guilty. They have not convinced me. whoever made the 911 call , I guess supposedly the sister, Im not saying she did it, but she found the bodies and she made an unemotional call to 911, someone should look at that, maybe they have but nothings been said. if shes innocent too then I apologize for the implecation but this is how the media made it look in my eyes. But somehow I feel an innocent man got convicted wrongly.

• Kippy says:

Go back and read the whole story!!! Don’t assume she did it because she didn’t. They didn’t make it back to church so after a day or two her friend went to check and found that horrible crime scene!!! Damn, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that he did it. Just read his story and the stories about him through the years of growing up!!!

22. Jim says:

I voted no. Too many holes in case. Stories don’t say that the bug broad admitted on cross examination that those bugs could be found in the midwest. Isn’t that where Ohio is?

Also, from personal experience, i know how cops and DA’s can threaten witnesses to get them to changes stories. I’ll leave this one for God to sort out instead of the idiots that think they have the power to condemn.

23. Human Frailty says:

He didn’t do it. The proof that the prosecution offered was that there was a lot of mileage on his car. There was no weapon presented, no forensic evidence, etc.. He was in Ohio about 2300 miles away from Bakersfield when the crime was committed. How are you all sure he did it?

• Jason says:

This is exclusionary evidence.
1. Why did he have his brother concoct an alibi for him in North Carolina, and why did he impede an investigation into his wife and children’s murder by lying about it?

2. Why did his rental car have bugs on it from WEST of the rockies?
That’s actually more evidence that his alibi was weak.

3. What motivation did anyone else have to kill his wife and children?

4. Why did someone see him next to his family’s home in Bakersfield?

Who are you? What is your relationship to Vincent?

24. Human Frailty says:

Yeah, it’s impossible to drive from Ohio to Bakersfield, CA and make it back over two days.

• Jason says:

It’s relatively impossible to drive there and back in 2 days, but not that hard to do it one way. In fact, that’s what was proven.

25. Human Frailty says:

The bug parts were said to be also found in the midwest, the brother was abusively questioned by the police (causing differing statements), no one testified at the trial about seeing Vincent near the crime scene, the car dealership for Vincent’s rented car was known for entering fraudulent mileage reports, etc..

26. Human Frailty says:

It’s wasn’t found that Marvin “forged” Vincent’s signature. It was only proven that Vincent let Marvin use his credit card.

• Jason says:

To fashion or reproduce for fraudulent purposes; counterfeit

coun·ter·feit (kountr-ft)
v. coun·ter·feit·ed, coun·ter·feit·ing, coun·ter·feits
v.tr.
1. To make a copy of, usually with the intent to defraud; forge: counterfeits money.
2. To make a pretense of; feign: counterfeited interest in the story.
v.intr.
1. To carry on a deception; dissemble.
2. To make fraudulent copies of something valuable.
adj.
1. Made in imitation of what is genuine with the intent to defraud: a counterfeit dollar bill.
2. Simulated; feigned: a counterfeit illness.

27. p says:

I haven’t heard that there was any actual evidence against him. But that never stops juries in America from convicting. Another case of conviction by way of rumour and innuendo.

28. Max The Cat says:

Get lost troll-boy – I saw all three of your comments from today, and only a troll looking to stir up some shit would write what you did. You obviously know nothing about this case, because the cops had a mountain of evidence against Vincent, including his own brother testifying that he made purchases in North Carolina with Vincent’s credit card so they could establish his alibi. So go away asshole, I’m way ahead of you.

29. Art says:

God, willing, I won’t see him in hell. :)

He needs to burn in hell and I hope he is raped every single day in prison. What a devil. How could he kill his kids like that. Burn in hell!

30. Camilla says:

I saw this story on TLC and was shocked….I cant believe someone would kill their own babies…may he burn in hell…God bless those babies, their grandma and mother

31. Nicole says:

Ugh-god, I am so sick of people like this ass-hat. He would have been better off (well they all would have been better off) if he would have just left. I find it almost humorous that these people kill their children/families to relinquish themselves of the responsibility of taking care of a family, or give themselves freedom from their kids. And now they are all enjoying their “freedom” behind the walls of a jail cell. How’s that working out for you? Morons. He so deserves hell. And I hope his wife and his precious babies are enjoying heaven.

32. Joannie says:

You should not believe everything you read. There was no way that Vincent could have driven non-stop to California, kill his entire family, and then drive non-stop back to Ohio. It’s impossible. No one could do it and arrive safely back in one piece. This website isn’t telling the whole story. I believe, from the evidence presented, that Vincent was wrongfully convicted.

• Jason says:

You should not pin all of your hopes on the one armed man theory. 5400 miles is 5400 miles; did he do 5400 miles doing doughnuts in the parking lot or did he do them crossing from California to Ohio and then back again? Why did he have his brother make purchases with his credit card? Why play these games?

You should read more so you’re not as easily duped by murdering scum.

• Max The Cat says:

Really? Then explain how they found the insect fragments for species found only in the Rocky Mountain States stuck in Vincent’s radiator and grill. Why did he tell his brother Melvin to make purchases in North Carolina with his (Vincent’s) credit card? Why did he lie about being in an accident in Ohio, when it was actually a person named Tamba Levvie who hit the boy on the bike? Why did the defense try to intimidate Tamba Levvie to prevent her from coming forward, so Vincent could claim he was the driver? He definitely put the proper amount of mileage on the rented Neon for a round trip to California.

I’m not sure what evidence you’re looking at, unless you believe some of the defense experts – I found them to be nothing but hired guns and extremely biased. Even so, there’s a mountain of evidence, including several people who testified they saw Vincent Brothers in Bakersfield at the time of the murder. One guy actually testified about a very short conversation he had with him.

Oh yeah, he did it, and he belongs on Death Row. Maybe you should take a look at the KGET Website – they covered the entire Vincent Brothers trial as it happened. You won’t find more details about this case unless you get an official transcript.

http://community.kget.com/blogs/brotherstrial/default.aspx

It’s sites like these that make it possible for me to destroy the arguments of people like you. What you brought to the table was just opinion; worthless really, but I showed you some facts. They can’t be changed and they can always be verified. Contrary to what you thought, this story was based on facts, not a bunch of newspaper articles.

• eternal says:

joannie and p- if and when you ever have the urge to settle down and have kids, please resist. because you 2 are picking and choosing what you want to see instead of looking at the facts for what they are like the rest of us. and those choices could be just as dangerous and detrimental to any child you choose to bring forth as joanie harpers’ unfortunate choice in a mate was to marques, lyndsey and marshall. the fact is, vincent brothers is a lying, manipulative demon who premeditated and then carried out the murders of his entire innocent and unsuspecting family in cold blood. in the interest of time and space i did not list every shred of evidence authorities were able to produce for vincent’s successful conviction, but i urge you to research it and see for yourself. marques, his own little son was AWAKE for god’s sake. he probably looked into that little boy’s eyes and saw him biting his hand in fear before he put the gun to his head. and he didn’t feel a thing about it, didn’t alter his plan, didn’t hesitate to carry out his evil act. he felt not the tiniest urge to comfort that child like a normal, loving parent. then he just covered him with a sheet like he was placing a tissue over a spill. no earthly justice could ever be served for that family, but the police, judge and jury worked hard to come close. how dare you try to rob those 2 women and 3 children of their justice by suggesting that vincent did not do what it is apparent he did do!

• Jen says:

AMEN to that! Couldn’t have said it better myself! Nobody deserves what those children and women went through, and it really upsets me that his own son was so scared he caused serious harm to himself before his father shot him! I have 2 kids myself, a 5 year old son, and a 2 year old son, and watching this case made me look at them and feel so lucky to have them as mine. How could you kill your babies?! I’m not saying it’s right, but husbands and wives kill eachother everyday (which I have to say I also find that horrible as well), but what could those kids have possibly done to deserve what he did to them, ya know? Ugh, I could go on forever about this, because it just pisses me off when people say such ignorant things, and side with a sick, sadistic asshole such as this scumbag! Anyway, I really enjoyed your comment, and as said before, I couldn’t have said it better! Hopefully, some bad ass inmate will get his hands on him in jail, and give him a really nice sending off, lol! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for it to happen!

33. The Bosses Secretary says:

Not so hard to believe it happened in Bakersfield. We also had the guy who bit his kid’s eye out and the McMartin Preschool case.

Maybe people just go crazy here because it’s so friggin boring to live in this town.

34. tiffany says:

i just watched this show last night. i am a huge watcher of crime shows. i watch them everyday. out of all my years of watching those shows, THIS is the worst. it has touched me in ways none have.
the other two that stick out in my head was a little girl lured, raped, and strangled. another was a guy who killed his son as his son ate his cereal/breakfast for insurance money. he later commited suicide while in jail. an admission, that he did kill his child, and it did not bring him the money.
but this crime is absolutely unbelivable. i went to bed thinking about it until i fell asleep. that man is simply insane. to kill his own children. and the little boy biting his hand bcz he was so scared. it brings tears to my eyes. and an infant?? why???? the baby can’t talk. can’t say daddy did it. so why not let him live? oh yeah. he’d have to take care of it. selfish bi**h.
they’re all in heaven. and that motherfu**er is in Hell.

What a beautiful family….there was no evidence of them being horrific monsters, so what motivation did he have? Just saving a few bucks? Sheesh. The people who can appear normal on the outside and do things like this on the sly are dangerous. Thank goodness this one was caught and has been sentenced to death.

38. Will says:

Dear Citizens,

I just want to raise your awareness about LAPD holding on to information about two serial killers in Los Angeles for twenty-seven years. It was only recently as of February 2009 that this information was released to the public about the killer’s crimes dating back to 1983. The Grim Sleeper Killer’s sketch was released in December of 2009 although it was created in 1988. I want you to know that if you look at the alleged crimes of the most recent Grim Sleeper Killer locations, that you will notice that there is a pattern of victims located at the first available unlocked alley from the south direction of the nearest Los Angeles Unified School (LAUSD). If you do not see a consistent pattern of distance and you were to look closely at the routes, you will find that there was no alley or the alley has a locked gate. This pattern is the same for the South Side Slayer. This is a problem, because this could mean that this man is the South Side Slayer and that is what he wants the public to know. If you drive the routes or paste the addresses into Google maps, you will see that most of the victims were discovered in the southward geographical direction of the nearest LAUSD School, with the exception of the ones Down Town, and the Chester Turner victims. The Golf course near the crime scene on 102nd Street surrounds a LAUSD Elementary School. The difference between the three bodies found on 89th Street, 94th Street, and 95th Street south of LaSalle Elementary School (LAUSD) is that the 89th Street alley is sometimes locked until you reach 94th Street. It could be possible that he did some work for the schools each time or picked them randomly. The same is for fourteen-year old Princess Berthomieux, who was found in the alley on 81st Street & Van Ness south of 74th Street School (LAUSD) at the first available alley. You will have to drive the routes to see this in more details. This man has spoken loudly and I do not think he wants to share the publicity with anyone. http://www.communitywalk.com/map/10147

Almost ten years to the date of the Nicole Brown Simpson & Ronald Goldman crime at 875 South Bundy Drive in Brentwood CA, which is also on the first block at the first alley south of Brentwood Science Magnet School (LAUSD), a similar incident happened July 6, 2003 in Bakersfield CA. If you look at the Vincent Brothers (Joanie Harper) case in Bakersfield, at 901 3rd street, you will see the same resemblance and the house located at the first alley south of McKinley Elementary School. Both locations are within five minutes of a VA hospital. Two latex gloves, a knife, and gun became the key issues in this case. That would make this tragedy the twenty-year anniversary and the Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman tragedy the ten-year anniversary from 1983. This man or a co-conspirator could be a sex-offender living near the Bakersfield crime location and trying to make a statement. In addition, Jeff Nicholson a Barbara shop owner in Los Angeles was killed five hours earlier on the same day as the Harper family. Jeff was the manager and relative of a NFL football player and the suspects fit the same description of the three suspects seen in Bakersfield five hours later on the same day.

What clues did the South Side Slayer leave for them to know he was the same man covering such a large area over such a long period? DNA was not available when this information showed up in the newspapers in the eighties. I suspect that he or the other man, if there is one, worked for LAUSD or a subcontractor because of the number of victims on or near a school campus and the other victims found in trash bags or trashcans. Both articles mention schools but not the same victims. You will also see on the link where they admit that he made one telephone call before the popular 911 call in 1987. We now know there were many anonymous calls. We also know that the orange or rust color car with the white stripe was seen with both serial killers. They divided the killers up because of the method in which he killed the victims, however; how can somebody explain his intentions of killing his victims and placing them south of the nearest LAUSD School. I did my research from this website; however, you will have to select the “All”, “Show description” and “Show address” options before scrolling through the list of names of the victims in order to see all the locations of the crimes. I wanted to bring this to your attention since the citizens of Los Angeles are often kept in the dark about important investigations like this. As you will see here, he did not take fourteen years off. http://www.communitywalk.com/map/10147

Since the press release in the fall of 1985 a number of people, including an employer and co-workers, have come forward with the name of a known male sex-offender who confessed to being at the scene of the crimes committed by the South Side Slayer. He also confessed to owning and driving the orange GT Vega with a white stripe on the hood identified by witnesses and victims of both serial killers, however; it was mistakably identified as a Pinto. This man spoke openly and his spirit was very loud. LAPD will not discuss the outstanding crimes and cases of the South Side Slayer, DNA, fingerprints, evidence, anonymous calls, gloves, victims, witnesses, evidence such as notes left at the crime scenes, and suspects. There is a chance that the Grim Sleeper could be a fictitious person made to look as if the South Side Slayer and a man using a knife does not exist and is limited to killing only prostitutes in South Central LA. The incompetence of the entire investigation is a modern genocide, a weapon of mass destruction, domestic terrorism, and an injustice to the community. Satan and corruption has reared its ugly head. This man has seemingly been calling out for attention and has been denied attention by wrongfully prosecuting other men, pretending he took a fourteen-year break and there is a new serial killer called the Grim Sleeper with a gun on the loose. There is strong evidence that he has struck possibly operating with another man and woman. This has become more political and road blocked possibly for racial disparity and what could be for federal and state contracts of monetary gain.

The witnesses and the sole surviving victim of the Grim Sleeper and surviving victims of the South Side Slayer have agreed that the information on the Grim Sleeper investigation is false and misleading to the public. They strongly believe that they are talking about the same man or individuals and there is evidence to prove it. Forcing individuals who have come forward to only speak to the agency in charge of the investigation is just a way of keeping control on what may have already been covered up. Do not assume that this person will only kill in his own community, woman of a certain status, minorities, and people of a particular race. A threat to somebody is a threat to everybody. In addition, do not blame faithful fathers, husbands, friends, citizens, innocent individuals, gang members, and the educated members of society for things you and others claim to understand because of their profile, criminal background, and history of spousal abuse. There is a strong suspicion of using open cases to finger future bad people as a means to an end. Every citizen should be able to live in a community of competent law enforcement professionals that are free of corruption, cover-ups, criminals, and serial killers regardless of what someone thinks their only targeted market to be. You now know more of the story and can make a more informed decision on how to correct this wrong. Thank you for your time and consideration. God bless America and I do mean all of America, South Central Los Angeles included.

39. Elvis says:

I used to be in foster care in Bakersfield at a place called Unicorn Gardens, a group home where Mr. Brothers worked part time. I knew him for several years and he was a punk and a bully. Funny how he was a principal at an elementary school. He used to walk around in a wifebeater undershirt and flash around his horseshoe brand on his arm with a tattoo of a karate guy silhouette and push us around. What a punk you turned out to be. What kind of chicken shit asshole would do such a thing like kill your family by shooting them in the back and while sleeping. Hell deserves a guy like you.

Well Mr. Brothers, enjoy your icewater while you can.

40. Emerson Eagles 1987 says:

I was in junior high in 1987. Vincent Brothers was working there at the time, not as a principle, but as a teacher I believe. I was always brought up to be respectful to others, especially adults. I never once got into trouble in junior high and always maintained a high GPA there. One day I saw Brothers outside of school in the mall. He was with his girlfriend and he spotted me and some other friends from the school. He looked at me, pointed, and said, “I don’t like you”. He wasn’t joking, he looked and said it like he meant it. Then he talked to some of my friends and walked away. He Vincent, FUCK YOU. How is prison these days? Have you been fucked in the ass yet?

41. Ms VI says:

I just saw this program and I think that death is the easy way out. Put him in “General Population” and let the guys there take care of him. That’s only fair. I can’t imagaine what that poor child went through. The fear of even moving, so he bit into his own hand. My heart goes out to the daughter who had the common sense to separate herself from this murderer. He even looks like a murderer and stupid as well!!!

42. JFK says:

Could Vincent have had an accomplice? He could have thought this out carefully in Ohio with his brother Troy who is a convict. One drives while one sleeps?
However, with what I watched on dateline, I was NOT convinced Brother’s is guilty. Isn’t there surveillance from Toll Gates?
Did forensic science determine if those bugs were recent. Who is to say the previous person to rent that car didn’t travel to California and as a result get those bugs on the car?
Brother’s description of the accident would only make sense if the bicycle hit the car from his 12′oclock. Highly unlikely to see the boy and bike incident from your 9′oclock or 3′oclock while driving because you should be looking straight and if he did see it from his 9 or 3′oclock, what did he do to avoid the accident?

• Max The Cat says:

WTF are you going on about Inspector Clouseau? If you watched the Dateline episode about out buddy Vincent here than you must not have been paying attention. It was proven in court that Brothers was lying about the accident in Ohio – He wasn’t driving, it was a person named Tamba Levvie who hit the boy on the bike. The defense even tried to intimidate Tamba Levvie to prevent her from coming forward, so Vincent could claim he was the driver.

Car rental agencies write your mileage down when you pick up the car, and when you bring it back. No one but Vincent Brothers put all those miles on that car. People saw him in California the day of the murder. He even talked to someone for a short time.

Vincent Brothers is guilty as homemade sin, and you should never, ever be a detective. Really, I can’t stress this enough – don’t even think of trying out for the Police Dept. Stick to something simple, like making baked goods. Or writing blogs.

43. Charles says:

Wow…I don’t know who killed who or why, but I would to have more evidents connecting Vince Brother to the crime scene. Lots of questions I have. 1) How could this guy drive over 5,000 miles at 70 miles an hour with out a ticket. No one seeing him between Ohio and California. 2) This guy killes his wife, kids and mother in-law so he can soil his oats. What? He did not want to pay CHILD SUPPORT? So kill the kids too? All this so he can “F” other women and not have to asnwer to anyone? Wow! Where did he get the cash for the gas? So, to gas up the vehicle he had to either use credit card or cash. To pay by cash some one would have had to seen him and to pay by credit card. His card would have been track from Ohio to California and back to Ohio. Everything this said he did cost money. So, where is the money trail. Where are the ATM receipts showing that he got out a certain amount of money for the trip? This guy drove all the way to california from ohio with out any one seeing him. He did not stop for anything? He just snuck over there and back. Wow…Where are the physical evidents? Like the muder weapons. Maybe he is the murder but I would like to have more evidents on this, if I where a juior and more reasons why he did this.

• Jason says:

1) Which is easier? Vincent Brothers drove 6000+ miles all over the place at about 41 mph in a rental car, in the town he was currently, living in, and no one saw him, or he drove 6000+ miles crossing the country in a conspiracy to kill his family, where he took care to obey the speed limits and managed to avoid a ticket?

2) How about this one? Why do you tell your brother to use your credit card and keep a receipt and act like you’re you?

3) Finally, why do men kill their wives and children? I don’t know, but it’s far more common than random one-armed strangers doing it. It’s got to be one of the leading causes of entire family murder on the books. Why is this particular question the one you need to ask?

• Max The Cat says:

You’ve obviously been misinformed about a few things concerning this case Charles. First off, Vincent Brothers WAS seen in the area of the murders on the day they occurred. Several people testified to seeing him, including one man who claimed he had a short conversation with Brothers – not much chance of a misidentification there.

And don’t forget the lie he and his defense team told about the traffic accident back in Ohio – they were caught red-handed fabricating an alibi. AND they threatened the actual driver to keep him from turning himself in

Then we have the bugs on Vincent’s radiator – bugs that could only have been collected in the Western US at that time of year. In fact, there’s so much circumstantial evidence that Vincent Brothers is guilty, I can’t believe you’re questioning his conviction. It sounds to me like you have a bad case of CSI-itis. Most Law isn’t like CSI – there isn’t a super team of forensics people out there who always find the definitive evidence for every crime. That’s why the standard for guilt is ‘beyond a reasonable doubt’, not ‘to an absolute certainty’.

Knew Vincent in college on Long Island. He was very possessive with his girlfriend. He didn’t want her to have any girlfriends. one day he punched her in the face- her eye. She took him back. That’s when I stopped being her friend. His rage must come from being one of 10 kids. No excuse for what he did. He had mental problems that went undiagnosed. HIs wife must have had major self-esteem issues to continue to make babies with a man who doesn’t show up for his kids birth. Sadly, there are a lot of desperate women out there that put up with a lot of shit. I

• Max The Cat says:

Wow, I’m amazed at how many people question the fact that Vincent Brothers is guilty. Did this show also tell you that the prosecution found the real driver of the car that was involved in that accident, a person named Tamba Levvie, and that it was the defense who tried to intimidate Tamba Levvie to prevent her from coming forward, so Vincent could claim he was the driver?

Why did Brothers tell his brother Melvin to make purchases in North Carolina with his (Vincent’s) credit card? He definitely put the proper amount of mileage on the rented Neon for a round trip to California, and he only had to average 41 miles per hour to cover the 4200 miles from Ohio to California and back. Why did his whole family lie about Vincent’s whereabouts for the three days he was in California, then recant and tell the truth that the didn’t see him for three days.

Sounds to me like the prosecution refused to talk to that one particular show, because it was less than honest. I’ve seen at least two different documentaries about the Brothers case, and the prosecution cooperated 100%. All this, plus my own research left me convinced that Vincent Brothers got the judgment and the sentence he deserved.

• henry says:

im saying that the “show” left a different flavor on the topic.also if the prosecution found the real driver, that means it really happened.if it really happened how did brothers know about it?it sounds like the prosecution was looking for a way to discount a truth?which at that point i decided that they could have lied about the mileage which i think is the most damning evidence and definitely would make me think hard about exonerating brothers.i will admit all i know about the case is what i saw on real life mysteries which you should watch.also why wouldnt the prosecution want to talk about the case?because it will help the defence in a potential appeal.

I suggest you do some real digging at the KGET Website:

http://community.kget.com/search/SearchResults.aspx?q=vincent+brothers

They covered the trial better than anyone I’ve ever seen, and did it without any bias whatsoever, giving equal time to the Brothers family so they could present their side of the story. It’s rare to find this kind of even handed news coverage in this day and age.

There’s just too many inconsistencies in Vincent’s story, and that bald-faced lie about the crash in Ohio was the clincher for me. Who knows how he found out about it – he has plenty of family there, so it’s not a stretch for him to have come up with this scheme.

The mileage may not have been 100% accurate, but it was pretty damn close – do you really think it was off by thousands of miles, and the people who used the car before him lied about how much mileage they put on it? That makes no sense. What reason would they have to lie?

Nah, he did it – I have no doubt in my mind about that. To many times his people got caught in lies, and that almost always means someone is trying to cover up damaging information. His Brother lied about the credit card usage, his family lied about seeing Vincent over the weekend of the murders, Vincent himself lied about the car accident in Ohio. The insect evidence is very telling. People saw Vincent in California the day of the murder – one man actually had a short conversation with him. I could go on and on…

You’re welcome Henry, and I’d like to say the same thing about you. It was a pleasure discussing this case with you. You were polite, respectful, and you brought legitimate questions to the table. You have no idea how rare that is in a blog like this. I try very hard not to let my personal feelings get in the way when I research a story, and I take a lot of pride in coming up with a fair and honest opinion of someone’s guilt or innocence. I’m pretty sure that you feel the same way, and I hope you continue to comment here at PYSIH.

I just got finished watching this story on Dateline and i did not see any evidence that he had time enough to do all that driving to kill his family. It is physically impossible for someone to drive back and forth that far without stopping. Also they did not check with other states to see if anyone saw him or any sightings in the neighborhood in which they lived very weak case and now they got this man on death row, all because of some bugs. The lady clearly stated that those bugs were sighted in the Eastern part of the country as well.

• The Danger Zone says:

Nicole, your wrong. I’ve done the drive. I’m from North East Ohio, the very northeast corner and I’m telling you it CAN be done. Pull out of NE Ohio at 4 am and you can be in Tucumcari (sp), NM by 11:00 at night. That includes stopping for gas and eating in restaurants when you stop. I even had breakfast in Indianapolis on my way out and dinner there on my way back.

Now, once you get to Tucumcari, NM you do need to stop, for about 8 hours. Get up by 7 am and you can be in Riverside (LA area) by 11:00 at night, and that even allows for you to stop off for a few hours in Phoenix.

We can figure that in this instance the asshole was sleeping in a rest stop somewhere and using 5 hour energy drinks and such. Grabbed some sleep at the house after he killed ‘em and so on. So, could this be done in 4 days time? Yes.

Consider this too: He left for vacation 4 days before the murders. Figure he took a flight out and rented the car in Ohio and drove back. A few hours for the flight, a couple hours to go rent the car and grab a hotel room. Then a quick shower and a power nap. Hop in the rental car and you have 3 days to leisurely make the trip. Next up, they didn’t find the bodies for another 2 days. So that’s a total of 6 days.

Do you really think he’s innocent? Come on, this one is way to easy to pull off.

• Jason says:

You must be as bad at math as you are at reading, critical analysis, listening and finally as a judge of character. Why force an alibi and add so many miles without being able to explain why you’d lie about where and what you did?

I’ll help you out. The Earth will continue to rotate and the sun will be there tomorrow.

49. KJR says:

Plenty of time to make the trip within the ambiguous departure arrival window. Here are some interesting thoughts I haven’t seen presented yet regarding the trip time. The “mostly” I-70 route has many places where the speed limit is 75 and everyone drives 82.4mph. AND, ask any college student if you can drive long distances with few stops and little rest just by having a case of potato chips and a case of diet coke in the car. Several people questioned whether you could make that kind of time without getting a ticket. You push the limit and take some chances on the way there. If you get caught, you don’t do the crime. If you get there without getting caught and having averaged 75mph all the way, you can be careful on the way back and still make it within the “alibi” window. People have said they have doubts about Brothers’ guilt. There are and will be doubts – but not REASONABLE doubts. Also the doubters seem to point to one or two questionable points that have multiple interpretations. Remember that the jury heard – what was it? — 137 separate witnesses and examined over 1000 exhibits. It didn’t devolve down to “gee they didn’t catch him on camera at any gas stations on the way.” (and the statement “they didn’t even check” is false . . . they tried but you often can’t find these types of things). Then there is the “if what you say is correct then . . .” examination. If he drove the 4200 miles in circles around Ohio (as he claims) he should be able to point out the gas stations he stopped at there. If the prosecutors’ argument is wrong, there would — in many cases — HAVE to be exculpatory evidence regarding what really did happen at that time, place, etc. Multiply that by several dozen key pieces of evidence, apply common sense, and you’ll feel the jury did their job in this case. Sorry that it happened; sorry that people turn into this kind of demon; not sorry that justice has to trump mercy on this side of the veil.

52. ATTICA says:

Ummm, does anyone else realize that there was absolutely no comprehensive evidence linking Vincent Brothers to the scene of the crime the night his family was murdered? No forensics, no witnesses… not to mention the man was 2,300 miles away from home when the crime was committed. If he did make the trip back from Ohio in the time that Linda Green thought, he would have had to be travelling at a constant speed of 70 MPH without making any stops… Its just not possible, and all of you eat up the prosecution’s story like candy. The real killer or killers are still out there, and they were let off the hook by our ineffective justice system.

• vcbecky says:

Read the rest of the comments, ATTICA, don’t just scroll down to find the ‘reply’ button. Your assumptions are quite specifically addressed. As I basically said to ‘Iris’, don’t make the same arguments that others have already lost in this thread, and expect to win.

• Jason says:

Care to define the term “comprehensive evidence” in a way that makes “legal sense?”

Th connotation you’re trying to make versus the English translation of what you actually said, are different. From context, you’re hung up on whether or not the Defense’s position in this case provided reasonable doubt against the evidence (admittedly circumstantial) presented against Brothers. What you fail to recognize is that what you’ve presented are not facts, but instead are “spin.” They’re the defense’s position on the facts, opinions that are not sustainable, valid or true. Vincent Brothers did put his brother up to providing an Alibi. Vincent Brothers did put enough miles on a rental car to cover the distance and do the crime. Vincent Brothers had motive and was linked to the crime with a timeline of evidence. Vincent Brothers was caught in lies that had only obscuring his guilt as a reasonable motive.

That’s what convicted him. Not any special circumstances or any lies. Vincent Brother made himself appear suspicious , provided an Alibi that begged the question of what crime he was committing and then failed to explain why he lied and asked others to lie for him. That’s a fairly “comprehensive” way to help the prosecution, to convince a jury, that you’re guilty. He did this to himself and the core facts of the case are irrefutable. Please try another tact.

• Max The Cat says:

I am sick to death of people like ATTICA and Iris, who continue to defend this cold blooded murderer and baby-killer with a combination of half truths and strategic omissions. For the last time, I’m going to explain why Vincent Brothers is guilty as home-made sin and deserved his death sentence.

Vincent had plenty of time to drive the 5300 mile round trip from Ohio to Bakersfield, CA. All the witnesses who said they saw him on the weekend of the murders in Ohio eventually either admitted they were lying or changed their story. His brother Melvin admitted he signed for Vincent’s credit card after the family lunch Friday, and for purchases made with Vincent’s card during the weekend – He also admitted using Vincent’s cell phone while Vincent was in CA killing his entire family. He was on his own from early Thursday morning to late Monday, almost midnight. Melvin testified to this at Vincent’s trial. He would only have to average 60 to 65 mph to make the trip.

Vincent’s brother Troy, who supposedly was with him in Ohio during the entire weekend, was never called to testify at his trial, in spite of the fact that he was the most important alibi witness the defense had – I wonder why that was.

The rental car company employees did not write down random numbers, they asked the renters what the mileage was at checkout, and Vincent’s mileage was in agreement with the next three people who rented the car (plus their mileage, of course). Did 3 strangers – people who didn’t know Vincent or each other, lie about the mileage of the rental car? I think not.

The bugs in the grill were only native to states in the Rocky Mountains. The possibility of finding them in Ohio was based on someone taking a bunch of that species and physically transporting them to Ohio. They are NOT native to the Midwest.

There may not be proof that he was at the actual crime scene, but he was seen by at least three different witnesses near his house very close to the time the prosecution says the murders took place.

Ah, and the accident. None of the witnesses were able to pick out Vincent’s picture when shown it. The man who admitted to being the driver reported that he was threatened with physical harm if he reported the accident.

I guess that’s everything, and what it adds up to is a strong circumstantial case – so strong that Vincent Brothers was sentenced to death. There was so much lying going on over at the defense’s side that I believe the jury just stopped listening to anything they had to say. Vincent had a plan, and he bet his life on his brother’s ability to keep his mouth shut.

He lost the bet.

53. ATTICA says:

I mean seriously, a shocking lack of evidence… Its quite apparent that often, the lives of human beings cannot be trusted in the hands of jury panels.

• ApriL says:

Umm there is plenty of evidence. Renting a car and putting thousands of miles on it. Having your brother forge your signature and use your credit cards, finding bugs that are only from where he was from… COME ON!!!!!!!!! That is plenty evidence to me.

• Iris says:

I’ve been researching this story and if you had your facts straight you’d see this man is innocent. It takes a day and a half to drive from Columbus to Bakersfield….ummmm so I’m suppose to believe that after this nonstop day and a half drive he’s going the have the energy to kill five people, sure… The bugs you speak of, guess what they’re found in the Midwest too…The car rental guy ADMITTED that they don’t actually check the mileage, that they just write down random numbers to get the customers out faster…. the police threatening his brother saying either you killed your brother’s family or it was him. Troy who has a felony knew that there would be prejudice against him so he didn’t bother to testify, that’s what messed up the case. There is no way in HELL a man is going to get on the stand and lose his dignity and pride and cry like a little girl over, man aren’t wired that way. The guy the prosecution claims was the driver of the car in Columbus when the accident with the little boy and bike DID NOT match the description given by the two witnesses. He didn ‘t even drive a car like that, it was sold….so you tell me how he’s guilty. This is a perfect example of police tunnel vision and a bad defense lawyer….

• ApriL says:

wow, an answer for everything…. an awfully lot of coincidences….

• Iris says:

is it really or is it exactly like I said…tunnel vision and a bad defense?

• vcbecky says:

Iris, please read the rest of the comments in this thread. Practically all of your opinions/ideas, I hesitate to call them theories, are addressed and refuted and quite frankly it’s rude to expect anyone to retype them for your convenience. You’re into research, so that shouldn’t be a problem for you.

Since you’ve done the research, surely you can provide links to proof, or at least provide links that make your coincidences seem less far-fetched. Everything that is printed on this website is thoroughly researched before it is printed, as much as you’d like to imply the opposite.

Are you a journalist who knows where and how to access this information? Most non-journalists don’t, though practically all of it is available online through court records. The law requires that most court records be made available to the public. In the rare case that PYSIH is incorrect, all you have to do is provide stronger proof than what is available in the records, police reports, etc. and the story will be adjusted accordingly and appropriate apologies will be made.

I agree with ApriL – that’s an awful lot of coincidences in your opinion. I just sat through Terminator:Salvation, laughing my ass off at the convenient Hollywood coincidences that kept the story going. There are more coincidences in your story than there were in that movie. I think you’re right about the tunnel vision, though, but I think it’s a problem that is strictly your own.

Was it? The car dealer mentioned they didn’t take exact mileage. in any case Vincent didn’t just drive around Ohio he drove to North Carolina and back (about 1200 miles) down to Missouri — however much that is.. That would explain the high mileage.

Nope.. No murder weapon, no motive, no witnesses to testify to his presence in California around the time of murder (other than in your head) — just a few lies which don’t add up to murder. Casey Anthony got away with much more.

5300 miles of random driving? Are you serious? I’m aware of the trip to North Carolina, to his mother’s house. It’s included in the 5300 miles – your scenario doesn’t come close to explaining all of the 5300 extra miles on his rental car

Are people supposed to vividly recall the face of strangers who get into minor accidents on the road? No evidence besides the so called driver’s statement was presented. How about some proof that he owned such a car, etc?

so what you’re saying is there’s no proof Vincent was involved in the accident in Ohio either – am I right? I mean you can’t have it both ways
I guess that’s everything, and what it adds up to is a strong circumstantial case – so strong that Vincent Brothers was sentenced to death.
Nope.. No murder weapon, no motive, no witnesses to testify to his presence in California around the time of murder (other than in your head) — just a few lies which don’t add up to murder. Casey Anthony got away with much more.

That’s your opinion – mine is based on fact, yours is based on God knows what.

Tell me why Vincent’s younger brother, the one person that Vincent says was with him the entire weekend and can swear to it, ended up not testifying at the last minute. If the jury believes this guy, Vincent walks – what reason would he have for not testifying? An attack of conscience perhaps? There’s your smoking gun, smart ass.

When are you assholes going to learn – the truth is what it is. It can’t be manipulated, changed, or “reassessed”. It’s just the truth. So you guys keep coming at me with your bullshit theories, full of half truths and handpicked evidence, designed to prove your point, while my reply is always consistently the same facts, the same evidence, the same people making the same stupid mistakes. It’s boring as hell for me, but it must be frustrating as hell for you.

Max — is not obsessed with this case. Have you noticed that this is simply a single page, a single story, on what is a GIGANTIC website? Max is the editor of the website. 1+1=2

Circumstantial evidence is evidence, and the prosecutions case was strong enough get a conviction. Occam’s Razor is a very useful tool, especially when there’s this much circumstantial evidence. There’s an OVERWHELMING amount of circumstantial evidence, far too much to attribute to mere ‘circumstance’ when taken as a whole. He’s guilty. He was judged guilty by a jury of his peers. That means he’s NOT innocent.

58. FedUP says:

YES HE DESERVES DEATH BUT NOT BY LETHAL INJECTION BUT SOME OTHER WAY THAT IS MORE “PAINFUL” LIKE DEATH BY BOILING–which is a method of execution in which a person is killed by being immersed in a boiling liquid such as water or oil.

“The man has the gradually sinking feeling that his role as provider, the definitive male activity from the primal days of the hunt through the industrial revolution and on into modern life, has been largely seized from him; he has been cuckolded by the compassionate state.

She probably told him, I’m filing for divorce and taking the house, kids and car and dropping you off at the nearest shelter and now you’re not even gonna be in the rotation. lol

63. Angela says:

He is innocent. It is impossible for him to have been there. I think that he was convicted anyways because her was black. So we have much more chances of seeing him in heaven and the ones who decided to murder him in hell.
