    Joseph Kony

KonyA lot of horrible stuff goes on in Uganda every day. Any PYSIH reader can agree with that. It is especially frustrating to know that rapists and killers often get out of prison after just a few years and go right back to the same old shenanigans. Why do abused children get put back in the custody of abusers? Why do sex offenders walk our streets? Sometimes you just want to ask why the American justice system is so messed up. Well, guess what?

You better kiss the ground and thank God you live in a place like this and not the small African nation of Uganda.

This is Joseph Kony (born ca. 1962). Kony is the leader and commander of a rebel militia in Northern Uganda called the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). Since 1987, the LRA has been seeking to overthrow the current Ugandan government in hopes of founding a new government based on the biblical Ten Commandments. The only problem is that Kony and his army tend to break the Ten Commandments. A lot. So much so that Kony and four commanders under him have been indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands. Their charges include enslavement, sexual enslavement, rape, murder, pillaging, and forced enslavement of child soldiers. Those charges don’t even begin to describe the evil behind this psychopath.

Over the last 20 years, an estimated 30,000 children have been kidnapped by the LRA and forced into either fighting or serving as sexual slaves to the commanders. When girls are kidnapped, they are given to commanders as “wives”. The higher up in the LRA, the more “wives” you get. Reports from former captives claim Kony himself has between 30 and 50 “wives”. When boys are kidnapped, they are trained from the get-go to rape, torture and murder. You may be asking your self, “30,000? Why don’t they all just run away?” There are several reasons. WARNING: Reading any further is not for the faint of heart.

When the LRA rebels invade a village to kidnap victims, they choose the most fit and least resistant children, and occasionally they will take adults. Then, they force the abductees to murder their own families. Men are forced to beat their children to death with logs. Sons are forced to hack their mothers to death with machetes. Sometimes, they are forced to boil and eat the bodies of their family members. Fathers and sons are occasionally also forced to rape their family members. One survivor reported women BEING RAPED WITH MACHETES. Others are burned or boiled alive.

Every now and again, the soldiers will leave survivors with their ears/nose/lips/hands/feet/breasts/genitalia cut off (or any combination of that) to tell the story and frighten others into not resisting the LRA. The abductees are then tied together and forced to walk for days without food and water. On the walk they are beaten, girls are raped, and anyone who tries to escape, looks weak, or even makes a sound will be killed. One escapee said she and the other children were forced to BITE TO DEATH a boy who was caught trying to escape. For the others, the shame of what they were forced to do is so great, they have no reason to return home. For most, they are already dead.

Once brought to the camp, they are brainwashed into believing Kony is a kind of psychic religious medium who has magical powers and can contact various holy spirits. As uneducated children, it doesn’t take long for them to believe Kony has spiritual control over them and that he will be able to find them if they try to escape. They think his ability to keep from being killed by the government this long is due to immortality. Then the little girls are given to the pedophile commanders as “wives” and the boys begin their training.

After years of committing the most awful atrocities, many of those kidnapped don’t leave because they have been programmed killers and cannot face going back to normal life. Others feel that if they escape, they will be killed by Ugandan citizens for doing the horrible things they did as LRA soldiers. Many girls cannot leave because they have children in the LRA camps after being raped. After 20 years, some of the young soldiers now were actually born in the camps and know nothing else.

The threat of the LRA has displaced almost 2 million Ugandan citizens into refugee camps that still do not offer enough protection. Every night, thousands of children called Night Commuters walk miles and miles into the larger cities, such as Gulu, to sleep on hospital or shelter floors to keep from being kidnapped.

You might also ask yourself, “20 years? How the hell is this still going on?”

First, Kony’s tactics have created a pretty powerful rebel militia hiding in the thick jungles of northern Uganda. The Ugandan army cannot completely wipe them out.

Second, many of the soldiers fighting are the very children the army is trying to save. Kony always puts the children on the front line.

Third, they hideout in neighboring countries, such as Sudan and the Congo where there are civil wars going on, by supplying man power to the various militias and using sex slaves as currency. In return, they are allowed to operate out of these countries under the protection of those militias and are provided arms and transportation.

Fourth, it takes 20 years of something like this for the Western world to really give a damn. Hell, it’s Africa. They’re not even real people, right?

For nearly 20 years, no one had seen Kony and only a few pictures of him existed. Then about 2 years ago, after the ICC indictments came, he agreed to come out of the bush to engage in peace talks. You can see the chilling video here. He has agreed to give up the rebellion if he and his entire army are given amnesty. Unfortunately, nothing has come of the peace talks in 2 years and they seem to be breaking down.

The worst part about this psycho coward is that he doesn’t do any of the work. He never kills, he has his soldiers do it for him. He just rapes his wives and sits back while the soldiers bring him more. Recently he had them murder his second in command out of paranoia. The ICC is refusing to drop the indictment, but many people in Uganda are so desperate for the violence to end and to have their family members back that they are willing to forgive Kony. For a long time I couldn’t believe this could happen in real life. Well, it does. It’s still happening. Pray that it will come to an end.

If you want to see a brief documentary on the LRA and its victims check out this website

Testimony of one on Kony’s victim’s can be found over here.

Thank you Chris for a great first time effort. You’re a natural Buddy.

MAx…i am triely horrified. Uganda does get TV coverage over here, and you get to hear dribs and drabs about the conditions over there, but nothing this detailed.
Why is it that Bush could go and bomb Iraq on a personal vendetta, but for these poor people there is no help?
Now i dont mean to spark a political argument, and to all the Bush supporters, please dont take too much offence. ( im just an Aussie, what the fuck do i know anyway, right?)
But i feel the same about the leaders of my Country too. Our PM will sit and talk for hours about our troops serving over in Iraq ( in my opinion its time to leave and let the Iraqi’s take over the reins) but here is a group of people that are truely suffering the worst atrocities.
This is akin to Hitler, and his gas chambers.
WHy is this not considered more news worthy than some football player on coke? ( more Aussie headlines.) Our infamous footy player gets hours of media time, why not the plight of the Ugandan people.
Send him to hell. GOD I WISH I BELIEVED IN HELL!!!

It’s too far away and “they” seem too differant,it’ hard to relate.

If they were blonde with blue eyes and fair skin ( like TATLOR SWIFT! ) it would have ended ages ago.

Mnutes after this post I will have completely forgotten about these people.OH WELL I got my own problems.

People are as a rule garbage tha’s why I ONLY donate to animal shelters and such.
Talk about THE GOD THAT WASN’T THERE!

      • Megan says:

Couldn’t agree more Amy. Bush is a fuckwit who has been in office for far too long. We should have left Iraq YEARS ago, and hopefully we will, shortly after Obama comes into office.

        • Nissa says:

It’ll happen. We have to bring them back home, we can’t afford to keep them over there. The country is broke. :(

        • Mulch says:

Thanks Amy for feeding this tard.

Funny how you Megan would rather allow a country of 28 million (say that with me together 28 MILLION) people to the slaughter.

Urkel will withdraw us becasue his handlers don’t want us to be there. Urkle is not able to think for himself let alone for a nation like the US.

So tell me Megan why didn’t Clinton do something in the Congo? Why did he allow so many to be slaughtered? Why did he instead put our military in danger in Bosnia? Why did he allow 18 RANGERS to be killed in a different shithole?

What would you have Bush do? Send in the Marines? We have nothing in the military trained to fight a war you expect to be faught. NOTHING! I am willing to bet a months pay that you would be the first one to bitch and moan when the first pictures of dead children come out in the news. “Oh you nitwit Bush getting us in to and illegal war in Aferica”

          • Amy says:

Im sorry, i should have shut my mouth. I dont even live in The United States, so who the hell am i to pass judgement. It wasnt aimed at Bush and like i said, i did not want to start a political debate….it just seems wrong there there is aid for other countries but not for this one.

          • Penny says:

Mulch- Thank you, you saved me some typing! I will just second what you said, I am use to all the sheeple hating me for my support of the Bush admministration. Now I can use my free time to tell you all how freakin great it was to have snow in Houston, Texas today. Since I was born in 1979, its only snowed 3 times before. See Lindsay’s toilet I did exactly what you said! Forgot the topic! On a more serious note, I take comfort in the fact that those people in Uganda don’t have a good life to compare their crappy ones with, so maybe they may not feel as bad as it would if it happened to one of us. Sounds sick, but that was what I was thinking.

          • Mulch says:

Amy you should never have the feeling that you need to shut up. Speak your mind. We might agree but that dosn’t mean I’ll loose any respect for you. I will if you DO shut up.

Speak up. Speak your mind. Just be ready to sometimes take a little heat. I am sure some Urkel lover will try to trash me with what I wrote. I couldn’t care less as I will match them fact for fact and I KNOW I will come out on top becasue I can accept different opinions and most leftwingtards refuse to.

Amy you are a good person with a huge heart made out of gold. Speak your mind becasue when you don’t you lost without even trying and that is a crime in itself.

          • Mulch says:

@Penny I could say a hell of a lot more but this is not really the place for it.

          • Megan says:

Mulch, if you could put together a proper sentence I would be happy to reply.

“Funny how you Megan would rather allow a country of 28 million (say that with me together 28 MILLION) people to the slaughter. ”

Take the “(say that with me together 28 MILLION)” out of it, and you have:

“Funny how you Megan would rather allow a country of 28 million people to the slaughter.”

            uh. what?

Please continue to tell me what I believe and how I feel, because you, my friend, really know a random stranger on the internet.

For the record, I voted for neither John McCain, nor Obama. I didn’t vote Nader either. So please, continue to use your special internet mind tricks to read my thoughts and understand my feelings better than I do.

          • Penny says:

            @Megan
Perfect example of no intelligent rebuddle, so they attack your grammer. I think I may have been guilty of something simular to that recently myself. No one really cares about a few grammer mistakes as long as it is not complete ebonics, and you have no real thought process. On the other hand, if you say a bunch of crap that you can’t defend with resonable thoughts, you’ll get slaughtered here. Maybe I am only defensive about this because my grammer and spelling suck big time. Feel free to correct me, I have nothing against constructive critisism!

          • Megan says:

lol Penny, if you really want to think that, be my guest. I have plenty of reasonable thoughts and intelligent rebuttal. However, I prefer not to get into political arguments with strangers on the internet. I can pretty much guarantee that nothing I say will change your mind because you believe what you believe, you’ve stuck to it, and will continue to do so. In the same manner, nothing you say is going to change my opinion either, so what is the point? I’ve argued with many Bush supporters in real life (including my own parents), and have heard it all. It’s a useless argument, and I have better things to do than argue politics with people who lurk on PYSIH.

I can tell you, I typed a good two paragraphs on Bush and why he’s a poor leader. (largest job deficit since Herbert Hoover?) But I chose to delete it and not waste my time arguing a dead issue.

My attack on Mulch’s grammar was valid. I DON’T know what he was trying to say, or ask me. Is he talking about the US? I think so, but that’s unclear. I’m no grammar nazi, I just like to understand what I’m being questioned about.

          • Mulch says:

Megan how many languages do you have to speak on a daily basis? I have 2.5 that I switch back and forth with at the drop of a hat. English German and I have to communicate with people from India. Not always an easy taks. I also have employed in my department 1 many from Pakistan, 2 from Turkey and our department secretary is from the Ukrane. I speak read and write German fluently and I am an American So save your grammer police bullshit for people who honestly care. Did you have any problems understanding the meaning behind what I wrote or are your so dense that you need everything drawn out for you?

I also see your failed to answer my questions. Easy to point fingers and say your fault but a different story to have to provide a solution aint it? Seems pretty SOP to me.

I really don’t care who your voted for. It’s none of my business anyway. Save it for the great unwashed.

You wrote: “We should have left Iraq YEARS ago, and hopefully we will, shortly after Obama comes into office.”

This implys that you know and understand what will happen to the people of Iraq should we pull out too soon. I can and will take this further that you are implying that you don’t care that more than likely millions will be slaughtered after our pullout. You can try to piss and moan all you want that you didn’t mean it that way. But thats what you said. simple and easy.

You see how that works? You open your mouth and don’t think about anything else. You don’t care what you are implying.

You tell us how you feel when you post even though you don’t use those words. Your mistake not mine when you leave yerself open like that.

          • Penny says:

@megan- I accept your reasons, they are valid! I don’t want to debate it either, but sometimes I learn from other peoples views. I would have enjoyed reading your thoughts on Bush. I am only right 99% of the time! LOL
            *side note*
I wouldn’t put all my money on the Bush administation, just wish some people would actually look into the real facts, and not repeat everything they hear from the Obama tv, I mean media.

          • Amy says:

Argh!!! I hate politics!!!!! I wish i had not even mentioned the B word…lol. But i have the flu. My ears are sore, and my nose is runny and i cant even swallow the damn cold and flu pills cause my throat is so swollen….yes im bitching and moaning, and yes all sympathy is accepted.
Anyway, the point is, that when i am sick i am a bitch, and i go looking for arguments… thats why i should have kept my Bush thoughts to myself, at least until im feeling better and can think and speak clearly.
            Yes…i know, im rambling….

          • Mulch says:

Amy relax. It was bound to come up anyway. Better you than a troll.

Now I have hear from an Aussi student I used to know that 2l of Fosters, 2 dingo steaks and a walkabout cures the flu right up. Maybe give it a try?

            Hope you feel better soon!

          • Megan says:

Mulch – Funny that you could get so much out of two simple sentences. Make your assumptions, believe I’m implying whatever you like, the fact of the matter is, you don’t know me. You don’t know what I think and what I feel on the issue, and if you want to sit there and say you do, because of two sentences I’ve written? You’re welcome to it. Millions will be slaughtered after our pullout? How can you guarantee that will happen? Do you really know the minds of the Iraqi people? (I’m sure you think you do, since you seem to know mine so well) You seem to forget how many hundreds of thousands of people have ALREADY been slaughtered over there. Both Iraqi and American alike. My cousin has made two tours in Iraq, and luckily, he’s still alive. He’ll never be the same person though, and it saddens me to know how much this has changed his life, for the worse. There are millions of other soldiers like him, who will not know what it is like to live a “normal” life again. They will wake up to nightmares more often than not, duck when they hear a plane fly above them, jump at loud sounds. Like my grandfather did until the day he died. He never forgot the horrors he witnessed in WWII. What do you really think we are going to accomplish by continuing this war? What have we accomplished over the past 8 years? Other than removing Saddam Hussein from power, attempting to create a democracy, and killing thousands and thousands of people, innocent or not? Do you really think if we stay in Iraq for another year, two, or four, that it will really make that much of a difference? We’re not going to be able to eliminate all of the radical Muslims. It is absolutely impossible. Each day we are there we are angering them more and more, and causing them to lash out in more violent ways. Yes, if we pullout, more people may die. But if we stay, there’s a guarantee that more people will die. More women and children will be abused and raped. More homes will be destroyed, more lives ruined. What is the point? We’ve been there for long enough, it’s time to bring what is left of our soldiers home. It is, and always has been, a pointless war. We should have stayed out of it from the beginning. If I recall correctly, 9/11 had nothing to do with Saddam Hussein. Someone named Osama Bin Laden ring a bell? Where’s he? What about those WMD’s that Saddam supposedly had? It’s been 8 years and we still haven’t found a shred of evidence to support our entering Iraq in the first place. It’s time to move on. It’s been time to move on for a long time now.

Hi guys, I’m the “Chris” Max the Cat is referring to who wrote the story (thanks for posting Max!). Stormy Weathers is right about Uganda. If any of you remember Idi Amin, he was the Ugandan prez in the 70′s and is considered the Hitler of Africa.

I said that the peace talks seemed to be breaking down, because Kony has been going back on his word to sign peace deals several times in the last few years. The good thing is that he is concerned enough to come out of the bush finally. And the fact that he killed his no. 2 man shows he’s desperate.

The problem as far as the U.S. goes is numbers. To the North is Sudan where nearly a million have died in the genocide. To the West is Congo where 4 million have died in the last decade due famine, disease, and malnourishment. And we all know about Rwanda to the South. Kony’s army has only killed in the 10,000′s (I can’t believe I can use “only” to describe that). The difference is the brutality which doesn’t get reported…

    7. Fred says:

As an American, I ask why doesn’t some other country or countries get involves instead of the while world looking to us?
The Euopean Union could get toether or maybe some of its members – like France, Spain, Portugal, Italy to name a few. China and India could afford to send some people in as well.
How about some of the Arab nations working to end a genocide?
Canada or Mexico – our neighbors?
      Brazil or Argentina?

Plenty of others with their hand in their pockets or fingers pointing to the US. Get off your asses and just get to work!

      • Kenny says:

Exactly, we are not meant to police the world! Look at India, people are looking to us to stop the terror there, it’s not our job/duty to police teh world, we are but one country.

        • Fred says:

And doesn’t India have more people in it than our country?
Besides, sending Americans to india is not a good idea – after some of my “tech support” calls getting routed there, handing me a gun and sending me to india just not a good idea!

      • Tress says:

        Damn Straight!!

      • TurtleMania says:

I totally agree, Fred. America has enough on it’s plate. Let’s start thinking about America. Let some other country help them. America isn’t the only world power.

Actually, I think these LRA assholes create this shit so they can get $$$.
They create an opportunity to fulfill their pedo nature, violent urges..you name it.
Then they ask for $$$ and amnesty.
        Fuck them.

After we heal our country, then we can turn on our bleeding hearts again.

    8. Kenny says:

Okay…first off…you can’t NOT expect a racist comment or two when the article itself says “Hell, it’s Africa. They’re not even real people, right?” Which I understand it was in jest, but still pretty bad.
Secondly, what the hell is up with the Obama bashing and the name calling? I’ve been a long time reader/commenter and this is fairly new…leave that shit in grade school. I know you often refer to President Elect Obama as Urkle Mulch, but this time, you overstepped my boundry to brush it off as comedy.
Bush was wise not to enter and stop this as well as Rawanda. Imagine our military going into a country whose army has been fighting for 20 years and consists of hundreds of natural born killers. It would be worse then Vietnam and make this Iraq crap look like a vacation. We would be the bad guys in a matter of days (it took a couple years for us to be the bad guys in Iraq and months in Vietnam). Rule number one is you don’t fight a Guerilla war in a foreign country, been that rule since the revolutionary war, Britain learned that rule, we broke it in Vietnam.

I don’t plan to do too much obama bashing, I have respect for our country, however I do question his charector. He doesn’t even have the will power to quit smoking, he seems like more of a follower than a leader. And he’s following money. Scares me.

        • Kenny says:

heh…all poloticians follow money…I just felt Obama would follow it other places and take us somewhere better then where we are. Remember, he’s no longer the Democratic President, he’s our President…like it or not.

          • Penny says:

The problem is who’s money he’s following. I am not privey to any extra info that you guys aren’t, so I’ll have to wait and see. Hopefully he will take us to a better place. Like I said, I respect our country and the people who have given their lives for it, and to me that means supporting the president.

        • Fred says:

As far as Obama goes – he is either the puppet master or his is a puppet whose strings go up quite high and fast. He may be a puppet controlling puppets.
Seems like the Dems like their people with a minimal past, least amount of history. Obama seems to come out of a cloud of smoke or the clouds themseles – depending on weather you see him as te Anti-Christ’s John the Baptist or the messiah himself!

It’s hard to believe that in the 21st century, atrocities against humanity like this can still happen in the world. What a pity there isn’t oil or some other valuable commodity in the country. Maybe then the poor buggers would get some help.

    10. Lena says:

LMAO @ at Lindsays Personal Human Toilet! So you just create a problem where there isn’t one, huh? I’m sorry that these stories still shock me…I’ll try to become more desensitized just for you:) By the way the”naked people on the porno dvd” is getting tired. Find some new material to insult people with.

The place where i work every year around christmas donates a precentage of our holiday revenue to an organization named CSI. At first i was a little reluctant to praise this charity as it is a very christian based charity but then I found out it was the only ground support in Sudan helping to liberate the saves there. They not only help liberate the slaves but also assit them in transistioning to a regular life. Most of the other places you would donate to help with the slave liberation go to this organization.
…anyway, just in case anyone wanted see the small amount that is currently being done (or help and make a donation) here is the link to their website:
      http://www.csi-int.org

great story. I had been doing alot of research on this myself due to my position where I work. Its such a sad situation there.

    12. diana says:

Oh, boy. I have stayed out of this one because it became a political debate, and those can get scary sometimes. I am not as knowledgeable in that area as I’d like to be, but I try to soak it all up. The atrocities listed in this article are heartbreaking. It is one of the saddest stories I have read on this site, simply because these people have come to know this as a normal way of life. Makes me rethink how good I’ve got it!

      • Miwist says:

It’s not so political – it’s a story of how inhumane people can be. A story of how people abuse power.
I suggest you check out witness.org – Makes you realize that life in America isn’t so bad (at least for most of us)

And so does flying shoes depending on your aim.
Religion is like a flying shoe, even if you don’t want it, it comes for you.
You don’t know how big it is or if it’s smelly, but if you are smart enough you can parry it.
Oh and for damn sure it’s comming for your head.

    13. Amanda Ruth says:

I just find this utterly disgusting. I know the truth about our past here in America, but that’s exactly as I said: the past. However, it’s a present issue in Uganda, and we simply ignore it. Nothing, in my opinion, has changed when it comes to the ignorance our country shows when situations like this arise. We have the wonderful few who give a damn about the fact that children are being orphaned or killed themselves by AIDS. But it seems like those who care if these people die from a microscopic threats disappear when the cause of death is by the hands of another human.

It’s ridiculous, and I wish I could help them. Sadly, I am only one person, and am too young to be taken seriously. But it’s like no one cares. Maybe, with a president whose family is originally from Africa, we can get some government support for these issues.

I’ve (unfortunately) become accustomed to women being used as sexual objects in certain parts of the world, but when I hear that young boys are being taught that it’s okay to rape them and torture them, and treat them only as property, I become sick to my stomach.

Honestly, we might as well be saying that it’s okay for these countries to do what they do, if we’re not going to do anything about it. We can say it’s bad–and hell yes, it is–but, we can’t just say that and then disappear into the fucking shadows, without trying to do anything.

I don’t know if I’m making any sense, but it’s only because I’m pissed off and sickened by this bastard.

      • Tress says:

Amanda, we (the US) cannot go and rescue everyone. We have enough problems of our own. As Fred put it- “why doesn’t some other country or countries get involves instead of the while world looking to us?”
Which is so true. Everyone turns to American for money and support. We just cannot give it to everyone in need. I’d love to help everyone and every animal in need for that matter, but I can’t do it, I’m only one person. The US cannot make the whole world better, we are only one country.

      • PatrickChristopher says:

Amanda, thank you. Every response like that is what I hoped for by writing this article. And Tress, you are right in one sense, we cannot make the whole world better. No matter how hard you try, how hard any of us try, there is still suffering in this world.

Amanda, here’s what you can do. Take this story and send it to anyone you know. Write a letter to your governor or senator. Write time magazine/national geographic/your local newspaper/anyone and ask them to do a story on it. Spread the word. I honestly believe that there are more people who care than we know, the problem is that they don’t know about it.

        Go to this website: http://www.resolveuganda.org

They have more info on how to help. I truly believe that if by spreading the word, making donations, or any other means one day down the line I am able to give one of this sicko’s victims freedom or a chance to live a normal life, it is all worth it. In that sense you are wrong Tress. In that child’s eyes, I will have changed the whole world.

    14. Sherry says:

Unbelievably, I’m speechless about this article.

I DO find it quite amusing to see everyone bickering about grammar.

    15. Susan says:

I read a book called “A long way gone memoirs of a boy soldier” by Ishmael Beah… The horrors these people have had to and continue to endure is mind blowing. I have not forgotten this story and I think of this boy everytime I read about these kind of crimes. I think about the horrors and what makes these people tick. This type of behavior has been around since the beginning of time just in diffrent eras. The Native Americans of the US, the Aboriginal peoples of Australia, the Holocaust, Sadam, Bin Laden, Baby Doc Duvalier… it is endless. Humans destroying humans. I like this website, I like being able to express how I feel about these monsters, but I also think of the name… People you will see in Hell. It is such an appropriate name because with all of the above mentioned monsters yes we trully do see them in Hell… I mean maybe this is Hell here where we are. I am just sick about this and that poor little boy from New Zealand I can not get out of my mind. This has to be Hell

This issue is close to home for me. My 19 year old son has joined the Peace Corps and will be serving 27 months in Senegal, Africa working with victims of the genocide. My son’s heart is really into going and helping the survivors and families. I should not have read this story.

      • Amy says:

Kimi, your son is obviously a good man. You must be a great mum. my prayers are with your son and i hope he can make a difference…even if it is only a small one.

      • diana says:

Sounds like your son is an amazing guy. Not many people would be willing to go places like this.

    17. Kimi says:

I have to agree…. He is a fantastic kid. A dream child. But that doesn’t stop me from worrying! He graduated high school at 17 and is in his second year of law school in Oklahoma. I raised my kids on a very limited income as a single mother and actually, I never dreamed that my kids would turn out to be such hard working, caring young adults. I am very proud, but also very scared for him. I have to believe that because his heart is in the right place and he is acting from his heart that God will protect him and bring him safetly home to me. If I did not have faith, I would have a harder time letting him go…he is my baby after all. :)
Please keep him in your prayers pysih friends!

      • Amy says:

I was a single mum for a long time, so i understand how it can be. I would constantly worry if i was getting it right. Now im married, and i still worry. Its a mum thing;) and i dont think that the worrying ever ends. Thats what being a mum is all about.

      • diana says:

He will be in my thoughts, Kimi. Sounds like you did a great job with him. I can’t imagine how scary it is to have him leaving for a place like this, and I wish him (and you!) all the best.

          Thanks you guys are awesome!

KAMPALA (AFP) – The Ugandan army on Sunday accused Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels of hacking to death 45 people in a church in northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

An aid official speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity confirmed Friday’s massacre, saying the killings took place in a Catholic church in the Doruma area, around 40 kilometres (25 miles) from the Sudanese border.

“There are body parts everywhere. Inside the church, the entrance and in the church compound,” the aid official said.

“We got information the rebels cut 45 people into pieces,” added army spokesman Captain Chris Magezi.

“They were cut with pangas (machetes) and hit with clubs but some luckily managed to escape. Our forces came to know about the killings while pursuing the LRA yesterday (Saturday) and the pursuit is on for the killers.”

Magezi said the victims, mostly women, children and the elderly, were mutilated in the style used by Hutu extremists during the 1994 Rwanda genocide.

Magezi later said 13 of the insurgents were shot dead by the forces.

“We came in contact with the group that killed the civilians in the church near Doruma. We put 13 of them out of action and we recovered from them nine sub-machine guns,” he said. “We are pursuing the rest of the group.”

Forces from Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo and south Sudan launched a joint operation against the Ugandan LRA rebels in northeastern DR Congo earlier this month.

The vice-governor of Orientale province, Joseph Bangakya Angaze, told AFP by telephone that “fighting has broken out around Doruma since Friday, between elements of the LRA and local groups” set up to defend their communities.

Magezi had also accused the rebels of killing 35 civilians in attacks on Wednesday and Thursday in areas in south Sudan and northeastern DR Congo.

But LRA spokesman David Nyekorach Matsanga denied the rebels were behind any of the killings.

“Reports about the LRA killing innocent civilians is another propaganda campaign by the Uganda army,” Matsanga told AFP.

“I am not a military spokesman for the LRA but I have it on good authority from the field commanders that the LRA is not in those areas where the killings are reported to have taken place.

“We need an independent verification to know who is responsible for these killings in Doruma because LRA has stated before we want peace not war because fighting won’t help,” he said.

The two sides have been engaged in peace talks led by the government of South Sudan for more than two years.

On Saturday Matsanga said the LRA chief Joseph Kony was still open to talks but preferred Tanzanian or South African mediation because south Sudan was involved in the military offensive.

Kony has repeatedly refused to sign a peace deal with Kampala because of International Criminal Court arrest warrants against him and his lieutenants for war crimes.

But Magezi insisted the killings of civilians will not deter the joint forces from hunting the rebels. He also condemned “these heinous acts by the LRA terrorists.”

“They (LRA) think by killing innocent civilians the allied forces will be intimidated to back off from the operation. They are misleading themselves,” said Magezi, who is also the spokesman of the regional forces.

“We will continue to pursue them and they will pay with their blood.” (orgasmic moment)

Uganda has already signed the final peace agreement concluded in April to end the civil conflict that has ravaged the country’s northern region.

Kony’s rebels are accused of having raped and mutilated civilians, forcibly enlisting child soldiers and of massacring thousands during two decades of conflict.

Kony, a semi-literate former altar boy, took charge in 1988 of a regional rebellion among northern Uganda’s ethnic Acholi minority.

      • Amy says:

OMG! Its total madness. How do people get to that point where they dont see others as human anymore? I mean, to hack a bunch of people to death….
I watched that movie Hotel Rwanda about the Hutus hacking people to death. Men, women and children were killed and left to rot in the streets.
But you see it in that format, as a movie, and although shocking it just does not hit home.
But its real, and its shocking, and i cant believe its continuing. Cant something be done to stop them?

        • TurtleMania says:

The worse part is that they did it in what’s supposed to be a Holy place to some.
It’s almost like a sacrifice to their (LRA) God.

This proves that you can lead brainwashed folks to do the most depraved things.

          • Amy says:

Doing something like that would strip every ounce of humanity from you i think.
I mean, to be able to hack a child to death, you’d have to be like a robot, going thru the motions and not really thinking about it.
It makes you wonder if they have not totally lost their minds.

          • Mulch says:

Thats what I have trouble understanding Amy.

We see it in Africa. We saw it in Bosnia. It was seen in the old USSR, Austria under Hitler, and so many times around the world.

It never stops shocking and disgusting me. I just can’t imagine how a person could do that to another person let alone a child.

          • Amy says:

And it never seems to end!!

          • Mulch says:

Thats the sad thing Amy it never will.

Look at the scum here on the blog. Every day there are more. This site will never run out of content.

Politics? Well it’s shitty. Always more than one side. I have mine outside the “norm” But what we have today scares me. Just look at Obama. He honestly scares me.

            Fuck all that.

How was your Christams? Did you get a beer bringing dingo? Or a kungfu kangaroo?

But you know, my mother lives in Darwin ( the top end of Australia, and i live in the south end of Western Australia. We rarely see each other…its been maybe half a dozen times in the past seven years. But i never feel the distance. She is always a phone call away, and we talk sometimes for hours and sometimes for a few minutes.
We email and exchange photos etc…
I awlays feel that she is always right behind me. She is, and always has been one of the constants in my life…

      • ferrets says:

Sad to say that the genocide in Africa is a priority issue for only a few. I do admit I was happy to see some local high school and college kids with a group called invisible children trying to bring media attention to the use of kidnapped child soldiers. The kids organized a protest and the local media and govenor pretty much blew them off as unimportant. I am glad to see kids becoming involved in issues like this, but am really disheartened at how few adults seem to care
