Danny Platt
Well, it’s only January 4th, and I may already have my candidate for asshole of the year. I would like to introduce you all to Mr. Danny Platt. Danny Platt is a certifiable, Grade A, Government Inspected, 4 out of 5 dentists agree, asshole. Why Max, you may ask, why such a harsh opinion of Mr. Platt? Let Me elaborate.
About 11:30am New Orleans Police activated their Amber Alert system after Danny reported that three men armed with AK-47’s kidnapped his 2-1/2 year old son Ja’ Shawn Powell. According to investigators, Platt said a dark-colored sport utility vehicle stopped next to him and his son near the intersection and three men got out of the vehicle armed with assault rifles.
Platt said the men forced him to the ground at gunpoint, took his son and fled the area in the SUV.
Well anyways, this was the story he settled on. The child’s Mother, Daniella Powell, tells a much more interesting tale.
“First he said that a white lady came by and snatched him out of his arms,” she said. “Then he told the police that it was some guys that came up to him and said that they was looking for a guy named Johnny.”
“We went through child support court on December 4,” said Daniella Powell, mother of Ja Shawn. “First his 
dad was ordered to pay $446 in regular child support, and he was ordered to pay me $4,000 in back child support.”
She said Platt never picked up the child before, but suddenly Friday evening, around 8:30 p.m., he called, saying he wanted Ja’ Shawn to spend the weekend with him.
Powell has not seen Ja’ Shawn since, saying she had to give the child to the father because he had visitation rights to see Ja’ Shawn.
“Then he called me back at 11 p.m.,” she said. “And he was like,‘Your son was kidnapped, bye.’ He didn’t even say anything after.”
“I called him back and said, ‘How do you let a two-year-old get kidnapped? What was you doing that he got kidnapped?’” she said. “He said, ‘Why you blaming this on me? Why you blaming this on me? I ain’t got time for this, bye.’”
Powell called Platt back a third time and asked if he called police. “He said, “Yeah, I called the police. As a matter of fact, they’re here right now and I’m about to flag them down.” But Daniella said when she talked to police, they told her the father had not called them.
Because Powell had called police, officers flagged the father down, she said. Powell said that she saw the father last night in the back of a police car, but he would not look at her.
In addition to telling the police different stories, according to Powell, the father deleted calls from his phone, trying to hide that he had called and talked to Powell
As you can see, Danny Platt is not a master criminal, and it wasn’t very long before he confessed to killing little Ja’ Shawn Powell, his son. His reason for taking the life of his own flesh and blood? Apparently he was unhappy about having to pay child support after going over 2 years with contributing a dime to the kids upbringing, and had made several statements that either his wife or Ja’ Shawn would be dead before he paid it.
It’s unusual when a police spokesman loses his temper, it’s even more unusual when the spokesman in question is Police Superintendent Warren Riley, a very high ranking official of the New Orleans Police Department. I’ll just let his words have their intended effect.
“How does an individual — because he’s ordered to pay child support to take care of a kid … believe that this is so much pressure that he would face — he would do this hideous act to his own child, or to any child, and think that is a remedy to paying child support?”
“I mean there are some sick individuals in this society, and this gentleman is clearly one.”
The best Danny Platt could come up with was, “I’m sorry about killing my baby, and I’m sorry for the family that I caused trouble with.”
Platt did man up enough to take the cops to where he had hidden Ja’ Shawn’s body, although Police are reserving formal identification until after the autopsy. Danny Platt has been charged with First Degree Murder and is being held without bail.
This story has gotten to me more than any other I can remember. All I can think of is that little boy’s picture. He was probably overjoyed that his Daddy came to take him out after so many months of no contact. I’m sure in his little mind he was planning all the fun thing he would do with his dad, all those things he dreamed of doing the day HIS DADDY came for him. Instead, he wound up on a slab in a medical examiners office, because his son of a bitch sperm donor didn’t want to do want most men are proud to do. Some men, like cops, prison guards, fireman & soldiers risk their lives every fucking day to support their kids. This one is going to haunt me for a long , long time.

As a lot of you know, i have five kids to 2 different dads, neither of whom pay child support. They owe me back pay into the tens of thousands.
After reading this…i dont want it. As long as i have my children, and they are happy and healthy, nothing else in the world matters.

Sadly, my kids dont see their dads. They seemed to divorce the kids when we broke up. And you know, after all this time, if either of them turned up and asked for the kids…id say, take me to court. I mean, my youngest is six(almost seven), and he has not seen his father in almost five years. He does not remember him.
I took them to Perth to see him four and a half years ago and my littlest was sitting in the car. His dad walked up and said to him,’hello little fella, what are you doing?’
My son looked right at the man who helped create him and said,’im waiting to see my dad.’
He did not know his own father. No way would i send my kids to spend time with someone they dont know and i dont trust.
He would have to prove himself in a big way over a long period of time before id even consider it.

Sometimes, the best thing a father can do for their children is stay out of their lives. I have 2 half sisters, who are both older than I am. They moved to CA with both of their parents when they were under 3 years old. Unfortunately, the relationship didn’t work out, and their father moved back to CT as an alcohol/drug/sex addict. They haven’t heard from him since. (they are now 30-32 years old)
They are better women for not knowing their father, and their children are better off not having that influence in their life.
As sad as it is, sometimes the best thing for the child, is for the father to be absent. As is quite evident by this story…

People make comments to me like that all the time. But im just being a mum. It amazes me that not all women know how to bring up a child. For me it was part instinct, part learning from my mistakes and part listening to good advice.
I could not imagine loving anyone or anything more than my babies. ( they are and will always be my babies, even though two of them are taller than me already) I am fortunate to have a husband who does not get jealous, and actually loves me all the more for the way i put my kids first.
I think your right too. Their dads are not good men. Pity i didnt learn that sooner. And i think they are better off without the bad influence.
But if they genuinely made an effort to get their lives together, and be good fathers and role models, i would not stop them.

Of course your children are going to hate you, and be mad at the decisions you make. Why? Because they don’t always understand WHY you make the decisions you do. I know I didn’t always understand the decisions my mother made. I “hated” her until I was 17 1/2 years old. But now, as an adult, I completely understand why she made the decisions she did. They were all in my best interest. as much as I wish I could deny it.
Don’t beat yourself up – you’re simply being a GOOD mother!! Someday your children will thank you. Even if that seems impossible right now.

I hope all kids eventually come to that realization. It’s hard for kids to understand, but as they get older, one can only hope they care enough to think about it.
Its scary when as an adult you find yourself saying and doing similar stuff to your own parents. Sometimes i hear myself talking and i cringe, because i sound just like my mother. Not that that is a bad thing. My mum is an amazing woman. But i remember thinking as a child, ‘i will never do that.’ and now i do,lol.

Not Ja’Shawn-”your son” even tho this baby was his child he didn’t even have the decency to call him by his name-or even aknowledge him as his son. Just by that you can tell he didn’t give two shits about Ja’Shawn and that is a real shame that he could care so little about a boy who no doubt wantd his dad in his life. My son’s father made a BIG fuss over child support. Before I filed I told him I would cover everything, if he would pay $200 a month which covered daycare. He was never consistent with it, only paying when we were on good terms. So to child support I went;-)! I told him he wasn’t just gonna play “daddy” to a son he wasn’t helping to support, and he didn’t get to see him outside of my house until he wanted to be a “father”. After about a year he manned up and now we have a great relationship as parents. I have no respect for these kinds of men, they make me sick. Don’t want a baby? WRAP IT UP NO MATTER MHAT SHE SAYS. So far I agree, he is asshole of the year. I can’t imagine what that childs mother is going thru.
I think the father was upset because she named the kid “Ja’Shawn” and not something simple like “Danny”.

If my son had been kidnapped i’d be fucking hysterical and calling every damned person on the planet i know to try and find him. I’d be out there trawling the streets and screaming his name. And like you said, Danny could not even recall his childs name, instead referring to him as,’your son.’
This story is really tearing at me. Maybe it’s because my son is two and 1/2, or maybe because that baby reminds me ssooo much of my son. Whatever it is I just want to scoop up my baby and hold him all day, but he’s too independent, and he won’t allow it:-). This is just so fuckin wrong! Ja’Shawn should be playing with his Christmas toys, like my son, not laying in a cold morgue. Tattoo “I killed my son” on Danny’s forehead and let the inmate have him.

If he gets life… Well, don’t they pay people in prison a very small amount of money for any duties that they perform, money that they can use for commissary, stuff like that? Thats what i did with the father of my oldest two sons. He is a freak and he tried to kill me. ( did 8 yrs jail for it) and i can do without all the crap that goes with having him in my life. He does not see the kids at all and has never tried to…and quite frankly, i dont want his money.

I know I’m tempting fate by saying this, but if this turdpile doesn’t win the asshole of the year award, then you need to invent a new category. Through some stupid choices I made, I had to give my kids to thier father about 6 years ago. I wanted them to be in a stable environment that I could not provide at that time. I got into trouble shortly afterward, and had to be locked up for a few years (drug charges). As one can imagine, I racked up about $15,000.00 in back support. I’m pleased to say that I’m doing much better these days, clean, gainfully employed, re-entering responsible society, and maintaining contact with my kids. Yes, I currently pay 1/2 of my take home toward current and back support. Does it hurt financially? You betcha. Is it my kids fault I was a f**k up? NO WAY. Do I gladly pay what I owe. OH YES. I love my kids to bits, and though I didn’t love thier dad anymore, I know he loves the kids too.
NEVER EVER did it even occur to me to not have to pay what’s owed, or to harm any of my children to avoid paying. WTF! This bastard will be the first to PC up, I just know it. I only hope the CO’s give him ample sheets to finish himself off before he hits prison.

Money is so secondary – my son turned 13 yesterday, he’s so beautiful, he was so tiny when he was born. And now, he’s 13 – we’ve been through so much, he’s taught me so much – he,his sisters, and my wife have taught me what it truly is to be a man – they’ve taught me how to love, how to care, how to be honest with myself – I can’t put a price tag on that.

I have just been watching the local news, and one of the main stories over the week has been about a Perth dad taking off with his four month old baby boy. There has been an extensive search underway. The baby was found today in a shollow grave. Apparently the dad had been driving around with his body in the boot of his car for the past week.
Its bad enough that he killed the child…but then he disrespected his remains. It breaks my heart and i cant help but shed a few tears. Im waiting to find out what this mans excuse for killing his son is. I bet its something really pathetic, just like Danny Platt here.
And there are actually people who sympathize with these men!!! Astounding.
Off-topic…According to Nancy Grace, the forensic evidence points to Casey Anthony as being the sole murderer of Caylee, and also indicates that the murder was intentional. I hope someone writes up this story–we’ll probably hit a record number of responses.

This will be my first post on this site. I may be starting off on the wrong foot here, but something I noticed is that not one person pointed even the slightest bit of criticism towards the mother. I myself have a 16yr old son. His mother and I have not been together for 7yrs now. Now I will admit I do not get to see him as much as I would like to (Seeing as I work all over the US), but I do pay my child support and honestly I do it happily. I do tend to think that my ex is bright enough to know that if i was to have cut off contact with her and my son, show no interest in his life whatsoever till the fact that I was being sued for child support, I would hope she would harbor doubts to my intentions of wanting to spend a weekend with him. Then this girl was ignorant enough to breed with this guy in the first place so she couldn’t have been too bright to begin with.
Welcome Omar. And to a degree i agree with you. I know i would be instantly suspicious it either of the fathers of my children started coming around. I mean its been 10 and 6 years respectively of not having any contact with them.
It would take more than a thinksgiving dinner and a few new clothes for them to prove to me that their intentions were all good.

Omar- Welcome to “pysih” hope you stick around:-) I see what you are saying and I WOULD agree with you. However, Danny HAD taken Ja’Shawn on a number of outings (without incident) before this and had spent some time with him at the mothers house around Thanksgiving. He had also bought the boy clothes and toys once or twice. So it’s not like he appeared out of the blue to take Ja’Shawn. Ja’Shawn and Danny had a relationship it just wasn’t as consistent as it should have been.
Despite what we read in the papers, most fathers do not kill their children and most pay their child support.
I don’t blame Ja’Shawn’s mother for letting him see his father.
People that don’t want to pay child support need to get over themselves and pay it. The kid didn’t ask to be born – if you’re big enough to make a baby, you’re big enough to show some responsibilty.

I understand where this guy is comming from. I see it as this, everyone thinks about doing bad things, it’s just that some of us will actually act it out. I am on child support. I know alot of fathers on child support, and though nobody has said they wanted to kill the child. ALL OF US have spoken of doing something to the mother. He had 3 options, pay child support = his life is over, and he will be railroaded to jail. Kill the child= his life is over and he will be railroaded to jail, or just do something to the mother= get your child back and live happily ever after. And there are so many ways you can get at the mother. You don’t have to just kill her. Take your son for the weekend, buy a good amount of Dope, Coke, or Crack. Put it in your son’s bag and send him home. The moment he goes into his mothers house, annonomously call DYFS’s emergency line and tell them that it appears to be a drug related disturbance at her home. (You must say that you saw her, and another person arguing over drugs and “A Bag”. The DYFS team will respond faster than the police, they will find the drugs and POOF!!! she goes to jail, you get custody, and now she is to pay the child support. Problem solved. You just spent about $250 on some dope that will save you a life time of debt, and your child will still be supported. As for the mother? Who cares, she can easliy find another man to have a baby on…………and mostlikely she will. So I say shame on you Danny, you had the right idea, just the wrong target. keep your head up and don’t blame yourself, blame the one who is truely to blame, the dependant mother.

I am etitled to ( say entitled because i never actually get any of it) $360 per month for my three youngest children. Now when i add up the cost of their food, their electricity usage, their share of pay TV, doctors bills, school fee’s and clothing, recreation, sports…man the list is endless…im looking at about $3,800 per month for three kids. And all their douche bag dad has to pay towards that is $360. Pathetic. And as my oldest two’s father has never worked and spends most of his time in jail i am only entitled to $14 per month for two children. That amount keeps them fully supplied in shoe laces. Pity they cant eat shoe laces or use them as a dwelling place.

Be a man and support your child and do it with a smile on your face because for one, your paying chicken feed compared to the full cost of raising a child, and two, your child has a mother who loves and cares for him. It’s funny, I listen to people bitching all the time about the amount of child support they have to pay, and in the same breath they’ll tell me that I’m lucky because I don’t have to pay child support. Um, no, I don’t pay child support because I’m still married to my wife, and 3 of my 4 children still live with me. I looked it up and where I live I would pay about $1600.00 per month child support. Not only is that less than they cost me now, but I wouldn’t have to deal with them when they’re sick, or fighting, or whining. I wouldn’t have to drive them to school or help with their homework. I sure as hell wouldn’t have to listen to them practicing violin, or bouncing that fucking basketball in the living room (after being told not to).
But these dumbasses don’t know it’s not about the money – it’s about love. It’s about wanting what’s best for my family – not me. And by putting my families needs first, I get what I want – a wonderful wife and children that I love and am proud of.
So, these dumbasses go through life wondering why they’re lonely and why their lives suck and why they have to pay child support. Maybe if they weren’t such self-centered, immature, selfish little pricks they’d figure it out.

i can’t believe this asshole killed his kid because he didn’t want to pay child support (which, by the way, was a small amount compared to some people i know). what the hell was so hard about considering whether or not you wanted to share your paycheck with offspring BEFORE you decided to procreate? it kills me inside to think of the happiness and excitement that little boy probably felt about finally spending time with daddy before his sperm donor murdered him without a second though about his little life.

Unfortunately Eternal, the laws are written that if a father has a visitation order to see his kids and a mother denies it, then she can go to jail the same as he can for not paying. Not always a good law to have but it’s there to ensure fathers can spend time with their kids when mothers make it difficult.
i am aware of that, danger. i guess i didn’t think of it because in none of the articles i read did they mention one of those orders. in fact, they seem to imply that danny platt all of a sudden just asked to visit with the child.
even if there was a court order, after 2 years of no contact, i would’ve told the judge i wanted to start out with supervised visits only. after all that time, and him not knowing the child, i would’ve felt uneasy giving him the child for an unsupervised overnight visit.

Then I can post links, in Daniella’s defense I have read at least two articles which say that there had been previous contact between Danny and Ja’Shawn in the last year. From all I could find it wasn’t like he had no contact with Ja’Shawn for two and a half years then showed up to take him for the weekend after the support order was set up. I haven’t seen anything about an order for visitation tho.
Most US courts automatically give a standard visitation order along with an order for child support, not all, but most. It would give him every other weekend and 6 weaks each summer for example.
Okay now I’m confused:-( I just did some more “googling” and some articles say he picked up Ja’Shawn every so often and some say he never picked him up…I give up.:-(
Thanks for that tidbit of info, Danger. I had always thought the non-custodial parent had to petition the court for it. My sons father and I have a child support order and visitation has never been brought up.

as a local of new orleans i have heard from ex co-workers of this fine gentleman that apparently cops and convicts alike don’t take too kindly to people who hurt children. and since arriving in the louisiana prison system he has been the center of many assaults, and has lost a lot of his pearly whites in the process. lets hope that these aren’t just wish fulfilling rumors and that he is the subject of gratuitous violence on a daily basis.

my dad pays a hundred a week, so 400 a month, for child support for a kid he doesnt get to see. my previous step mother ran off with my older brother and got married then had two more kids together. but since she left him right after the baby was born, my father is paying for his child he doesnt see, whether its from a paycheck or unemployment or taxes. he has seen her less than five times in the 9 years she has been alive, and the last time he was allowed to spend time with her (just a little bit) was if he was ok with her calling him grandpa and not dad. she doesnt know who he is, and he doesnt even get pictures of her from her bitch mother. but the main point is, he happily pays it because its going to his kid, adn thats how it should be. he doesnt even get visitation cuz they moved to another state
