Michael Robie, Amber Talbot, Anthony Howe, and Timothy Smith
Christopher Gray, 25 of North Haverhill, New Hampshire has been described by friends as kind, loving, and hard-working. Christopher, although being diagnosed at an early age with developmental disabilities, had always managed to hold down a job and was described by those who knew him as a good guy that was always willing to help out when needed.
In addition to spending most of his life in state-run institutions, Christopher struggled with both cognitive impairments as well as speech impediments. Despite his hardships and differences from others, I am certain that Christopher and his planning team of professionals worked diligently to ensure that he was as integrated and adjusted to normal society as possible. Unfortunately, adults with developmental disabilities are generally too trusting of individuals and as s result, are often easy targets of ridicule and abuse – especially at the hands of those they know and who they do not suspect as a threat. Christopher was no exception to this rule, unfortunately.
So, when Christopher’s friend, Amber Talbot, 17, invited him to the trailer home which she shared with her then-incarcerated boyfriend, Michael Robie, 18, and their two friends Anthony Howe, 18, and Timothy Smith, 23, Christopher went all too willingly. After working his regular shift as a cashier at the local Havervhill WalMart, Christopher clocked out at 11:30 pm and was spotted on surveillance cameras getting into Amber Talbot’s Black Honda Civic. Timothy Smith and Anthony Howe were also seen in the footage as part of the group. Amber drove the group to the rented trailer on Lime Kiln Road. Shortly thereafter, Amber packed up her newly-born infant son and stated that she was going to go up the road a few miles to her Mother’s home to spend the night.
It was then that Christopher Gray, Anthony Howe, and Timothy Smith built a bonfire. I wish that I could report that they proceeded to sing choruses of kumbaiya while toasting marshmallows, but that didn’t happen.What did take place was a crime so cold hearted and callous that you can only wonder what thoughts were going through Christopher’s brain as Anthony Howe suddenly grabbed him and yelled to Timothy Smith, “Do it now!”
Timothy Smith quickly produced a six inch knife and began to brutally stab Christopher Gray while Anthony Howe held him down by his neck. Christopher Gray, helpless and unable to overpower the two had no way out as Timothy Smith continued to repeatedly plunge the six inch blade into his throat and abdomen repeatedly.
Christopher died as a result of multiple stab wounds that night.
The following day, when Christopher Gray did not return home to his residential facility, his Care Provider became worried. It was not like Christopher to fail to inform others as to his whereabouts. As a result, a missing persons report was filed by Christopher’s Public Guardian that day.
When investigators began to trace Christopher’s last steps prior to the missing persons report being filed, they were able to use the surveillance footage taken of Christopher leaving his work shift on October 6th and getting into Amber’s Black Honda. This led Investigators right to Amber and the other members of the Lime Kiln clan. When Investigators questioned Amber as to the last time she saw Christopher, she stated that Christopher had asked for a ride to Newbury Crossing after his shift had ended. Amber added that Christopher told her he had planned on meeting someone at the Crossing, but would not tell anyone who he was planning on meeting that night. Of course, this statement made Investigators more suspicious because it just reeks of lies.
Investigators knew that the Lime Kiln clan was hiding something. They were so sure of it, that they were able to seek and obtain a search warrant which was executed on October 9th, 2008 allowing them access to the Lime Kiln residence and the outlying property. On that day, Investigators discovered Gray’ s lifeless body in a plastic wheelbarrow hidden behind some bushes on the property. Near the wheelbarrow was a shallow and freshly dug hole, probably intended as a future grave for Christopher to be dumped in.
The community members and law enforcement officials had too many unanswered questions and were baffled as to why this happened. What was the true 
motive behind this brutal incident which left Christopher Gray dead at the hands of people that he thought were his friends? Investigators began to ask more questions and what began to unravel would shed light as to a possible motive for this brutal crime.
Remember Amber Talbot’s incarcerated boyfriend, Michael Robie? Remember the infant son which Amber whisked away to the safety of her Mother’s home hours before the murder of Christopher Gray at the Lime Kiln residence? Investigators learned from several sources that were close to the Lime Kiln Losers that although Amber Talbot alleged that Michael Robie was the father of her newly born baby in all actuality, the baby was a product of a sexual relationship which she and Christopher Gray had carried on throughout the year 2007.
One can only speculate as to whether or not Michael Robie knew that Amber Talbot had lied to him about being the father of her infant son. Perhaps Michael Robie knew that disabled Christopher Gray was the actual father of Amber Talbot’s son. Regardless, it was evident to many who knew Michael Robie that he harbored an intense amount of jealousy and hatred toward Christopher Gray. So much so that he advised Amber Talbot on many occasions to steer clear of Christopher at all costs. When this information was discovered, Investigators started to look closer at Michael Robie.
Investigators say that conversations between Michael Robie, Amber Talbot, Anthony Howe, and Timothy Smith were recorded from September 2008 through October 2008 when Michael Robie was spending some quality time at the Grafton House of Corrections on charges of fraud.
According to court documentation, it was discovered that in mid-September, Amber Talbot placed a phone call to Michael Robie and complained that Christopher Gray was hitting on her. Amber indicated that Christopher had hugged her on one occasion. Come on Amber, what’s a hug when you had sex with the guy? Anyways, it was at that time that Robie reportedly flipped out and began plotting revenge against Christopher Gray from behind bars with the help of his friends and domestic skank, Amber Talbot.
Granted, the Lime Kiln clan were no NASA rocket scientists, but one would think that when a call is made from a correctional facility, and you hear a voice recording at the beginning of your call stating that the call is being recorded, you would be a little more choosy as to the topics of conversation which are up for discussion.
According to taped phone conversations, Investigators shave surmised that initial plans for revenge against Christopher Gray began with Michael Robie enlisting the help of Anthony Howe and Timothy Smith to beat up Gray. This quickly escalated to more elaborate plans of murder, with all details reported to be fine-tuned by Timothy Smith. Michael Robie conspired with Timothy Smith and Anthony Howe, along with his skank, Amber Talbot, to kill Christopher Gray. In a conversation which took place on October 1st, 2008, Robie was heard telling Talbot:
“I want to make sure it’s done tomorrow. Bang Bang skeet skeet. We might end up with some money from this after. Anthony is doing me a big favor. He will be living rent-free for a while. You’ll need some dry kindling, this is going to be hilarious.”
Yeah, real comedy.
It was less than one week later that the group realized their plans of murder and the crime was executed. Christopher was dead. From court documentation, it was learned that Amber Talbot led Christopher to the Lime Kiln residence with full knowledge that Christopher was to be murdered that evening. Amber would later brag to Michael Robie in another recorded conversation that Christopher was not going to come over at first, but she was able to con him into it. What a woman.
This conversation which took place the day after the murder between Amber Talbot and Michael Robie on October 7th, 2008 makes me especially sick and pisses me off. It simply illustrates that these two are callous, disgusting, and vile pieces of dirt that should not be breathing air on this planet.
The court transcript from the affidavit describes Amber Talbot and Michael Robie having a conversation where Christopher Grayâ s body was referred to as a coyote which Timothy Smith and Anthony Howe had killed that night.
Robie: Where is it?
Talbot: It’s in the barn. After they wounded it, Anthony grabbed it around the neck and Tim stabbed it. Its intestines were sticking out of one of the holes. It was really gross.
In the same conversation, Talbot explains later that they were going to place the coyote in the well, but they were unable to do so when they discovered that the well was full with water.
Talbot: Too bad you couldn’t just eat coyote. (Robie and Talbot were then heard laughing)
I wonder if they are laughing now.
Robie and Talbot have been charged with one count of court conspiracy to commit murder. If convicted, they both could get up to thirty years in prison. Smith is being charged with one count of second-degree murder and Howe is charged with one count of hindering apprehension /prosecution.

as a parent of a child with disabilities similar to the description of Christopher, the knowledge of a crime like this is one of my greatest fears. A man that works with my husband tells a story of a group of boys taking a “friend” into an alley with the intention of raping him, only to not follow throught with the crime. Not only is this death senseless, now there is a child who will never know his father, and there is no family to love him. Wow. I don’t know what to say.

This story touched me because I work with the developmentlally disabled, specifically, at Chris’ level, who have jobs, live on their own, and are encouraged to assimilate as much as possible into this society. The biggest challenges for my clients are not their cognitive disabilities and what they cannot do, but the scum bags out there like Talbot, Robie, Smith, and Howe who prey on them and abuse them. Anthony Howe is charged with one count of hindering apprehension /prosecution? The bastard grabbed Christopher, incited murder by yelling “Do it now!”, then held him down by the neck while Timothy Smith of the canary yellow hair stabbed him to death. He participated in the murder and should be charged accordingly!
That means that Howe is cooperating with the authorities. A sad fact of life is that courts will not convict without a live body sitting there telling everything that happened.
Better yet, the overworked prosecutors and public defenders will never actually have to bring it to trial – the plea deals have almost certainly already been struck, since the charges are not capital murder.

Actually Fred taping calls of prison inmates is not a violation of their privacy. They have a choice to use the phone or not use the phone, and since it’s the property of the state (prison) then the prison has the right to monitor it. In addition, this is case is an example of the very reason that calls are monitored and recorded in prisons. The beginning of each call it actually states to both parties that the call is from a corrections facility and it is being taped.
Now had they actually thought about this, they could of located a POS attorney to meet with the idiot in prison or take his calls and then pass the information back and forth between them, these calls/visits are not subject to taping/monitoring.

Don’t know about in the good ol’ US of A, but in Canada, prisoners can vote in all elections and have internet access and can (currently) collect government pensions like old age security and canada pension.

@Fred – I don’t know about individual states or overall federal law in the USA but here in Canada – ALL prisoner calls are monitored and recorded for reasons just like this, in case they plot something from “inside” so that later there will be evidence of it.
Prisoner rights include: timely and effective health care, nourishing food, regular exercise, personal hygiene, safe cells and equipment and personal protection.
As danger has stated – they have the choice to use or not to use the phone.
I am glad that the phone calls are taped.

Sounds like Canadian Criminal “justice” – give’em a TV and a gym membership, free food and rent, soft sheets – may as well send’em to a health spa for a few years. When did the prison officials know about the plot to kill Christopher Gray in the recordings? Could there have been any way to prevent this by foiling the plot based on these conversations?
Im thinking that once Chris was dead and they suspected a plot to kill, they went looking for evidence, reviewed the recordings and got the info they needed to prosecute.
As a former inmate of both a state and county facility.I can say that they record all conversations and have the ability to listen to them as you speak,if they feel their institution is at risk,or have former knowledge of a crime to be committed.However,because there are so MANY calls,they RECORD them and only review them IF there is cause to review them.Example:If that piece of shit with the pizza face had been overheard by another inmate and that other inmate wanted a deal,he could have said,i know about a pending murder but before I give ya the details I want a deal…then continue to GET the deal in a DAMN timely manner (and these folks planned this for a period of time),then they would have reviewed the tapes and VOILA’…no murder.

I went to school with all of these kids and this completely disgusts me. I worked with Chris at walmart in Woodsville or about 3 months, he was a great guy. Amber is a BITCH i hate her. Mike Robie has always been a loser..this was kind of surprise for Anthony Howe. I did not know he was like that. Tim smith has always been a dead beat. This whole story is very sad, Chris actually looks like he had the heart of a happy and wonderful person, to think he trusted these people and probably just wanted to be close to amber…How completely senseless. May God watch over him. Someone mentioned what will happen to the baby now? I don’t want to jump the gun and mark Ambers parents as unfit, (I saw no mention of Chris’s parents but that doesnt mean they aren’t in the picture) sometimes parents with children who are challenged decide to have them live in a home with guidance but also independence so they can feel their worth. If that is the case hopefully they will raise their grandchild, but Ambers mother could also be a very decent person, I myself know of someone who is a wonderful mother and person but her daughter chose the wrong persons to get hooked up with, eventually she followd a skin head and made her life a train wreck. Her Mother now raises her 4 year old daughter and has been for the last two years, she is giving the child a good stable life and she gave her daughter the same, so I guess what I am saying is don’t blame the mother for what the daughter does until you know the whole story, and if she is a decent woman I hope she is also part of the childs life, and he never gets to as much as breath the same air as his biological mother and her cohorts who really should burn in hell.
Thank God for big hearted Grandparents. There are many of them out there who after raising their own children and earning their right to a peaceful and contented retirement, take on their grandchildren and raise them with much love. My hats off to all those grandparents who do this for their grandchildren.
My guess,Baffled In Mass,is that he lived in an independent facility.That speaks volumes in the defense of the parents.They allowed him to have a full and productive life,instead of bottling him up behind closed doors and hiding him from all the GOOD the world has to offer.May they take comfort knowing that his short life was sprinkled with happiness,contentment and love.May the perpetrators get what’s God has in store for them.
I am Chris’s Guardian, Chris lived with me…He was NOT getting any services by any agency. when he was younger he did get services but as he grew older he chose not to have an agency look after him. He wanted freedom and he wanted to make his own choices with out getting medication and rules shoved at him…His parents respected his wishes and wanted only what was best for him. His parents knew where Chris was and where he lived and when I filed for guardianship, they were happy to have it done…Chris needed a little extra guidance, He needed some stability and he needed to make his own choices…All of which he did and got..We all miss and and love him dearly..he was a very good friend of mine and very much a part of our family…Chris’s parents are good people, they only ever wanted for Chris what was best for him…

Oh, you can bet the proverbial farm she’ll be tried as an adult. New Hampshire is a historically conservative state, especially when it comes to cases like this. Robert Tulloch, 17 & James Parker, 16 murdered 2 older and extremely popular Dartmouth Professors, Susanne and Half Zantop, back in 2001, and both of them were tried as adults. Tulloch got Life w/o Parole and Parker, who plead guilty a,d testified against Tulloch, got 25 years. So I’d have to say if Scoobey, ah, I mean Amber thinks her age is going to save her she is most definitely mistaken.
Having worked for DEC near the MA – NH border, NH in some parts can be quite like the South with snow. Some of NH is becoming Metro-Boston, but where she is, she may be older than me before she’s out!

When I first learned of this case, I was shocked. Chris was working at Wal-Mart as a cashier, and I loved to go through his lines on Friday nights. He would greet me with, “Oh, must be Friday since your here!” He always made me laugh.
The sickening thing is, I had worked with both Mike, and Anthony at another grocery store. Mike, Amber, and Tim were all formar students of mine, many years ago when I was a sub in the school district. So, I knew these kids. They all need to rot where they are now, in jail for what they did. Does New Hampshire have a death penelty????? What these four did to a nice young man, should be put to death as well. It isn’t fair to Chris’s family that these four remain alive while Chris has died. Let the punishment fit the crime.
New Hampshire does have a death penalty, but they’ve only applied it twice in the past 50 years. The first was for the kidnapping, rape, and murder of a young boy back in the 1950’s. The last guy that was sentenced to death was Michael Addison, convicted of the 2006 shooting of Manchester police officer Michael Briggs just a couple of months ago.
Wow, might as well not have a death penalty at all. I hope they start to enforce it more with these four assholes. They all deserve the death penalty.
I heard that the charges against Scooby Doo Talbot Beaitch have thankfully been changed to that of murder. Not a lot is out on the progression of this case. I assume it is puttering along, though.

Reading this makes me sad on 2 different aspects, the first being of course, the murder of a young innocent, R.I.P. Chris. Second, how all of you feel towards Amber Talbot. I’ve known amber since i can remember, all of my birthdays, all of hers, camping trips with her, visiting at her parents on an almost daily basis, swimming, tag, going to the playground. I knew a young, happy, nice girl, up until 3 years ago. No, I didn’t see her change, but i don’t think her parents are to blame. It is more likely the crowd she got into, not to mention she was living in a trailer with young adults at age 17. Yes, she fucked up really bad, but does she deserve to die? to rot in prison?…i don’t think so. She has a child that needs a mother, she can be changed, but she does deserve to be punished.
My mom was friends with hers, i was practically raised by amber’s mom and mine. My mom was into many drugs, and a heavy drinker. She was also a practicing wicken for the first 10 years of my life. She then converted to christianity, and gave up all her addictions, her party lifestyle, and many of her friends. She worked for her masters degree in the last years of her life, she died at 41 to pancreatic cancer.
Now i grew up basically as amber did, i lived with her for a few years, i visited her, and her parents for 17 years atleast once a week, but i turned out ok. I am going on 20 years old now, i have a honors highschool diploma, and i am a sophomore in a state college. Granted i wasn’t raised by her parents, but i was around them a lot. You all think amber deserves to die, to rot in hell, but she is a person who can change, and killing a person for killing a person doesn’t fix things, it won’t ease Christophers’ family’s pain, it will only cause ambers’ family pain.

Amber to me is the most evil because it sounds like without her CHris wouldn’t have gone to the trailer. She knew if he came to the trailer he was going to die and she was proud she “convinced” him to come. If Chris had not have gone that night maybe they would have hunted him down or maybe not, but without her encouragement he would not have been there. She knowingly led him to his death and for that she is an evil bitch
Sadly, I know 3 out of the four people involved in this case. I talked with Amber daily in classes at our high school and Mike I’ve known since I was a kid. Howe and I never spoke personally but knew he used to beat his girlfriend who was a friend of mine. All three of them have a history of violent behavior of some sort.
Amber has a completely fucked up family from what she’s told me and he acted like it was NORMAL. Umm, okay. Her mom fucked around so much Amber had brothers she didn’t even know about until she was 17. Amber obviously ended up just like her. I never particularly liked Amber but got along with her well enough, we sat next to each other in a digital media class at our high school. I didn’t think she was capable of murder…but I think she was the worst along with Robie and the guy who actually killed poor Chris.
Mike Robie has always been a completely FUCKED up idividual along with his entire family which I also had the “pleasure” of knowing. His mother was a sick twisted woman who did drugs and burnt down their first home to obtain the insurance money from it. Mike killed innocent animals for no reason, and beat up his little brother daily. He’s sick and twisted which I figured out pretty quickly after only him for a couple of months. This whole thing made me physically ill because not only is it a sick and heinous thing to go, I also knew these people. How fucked is that?? I fucking knew them personally. I’m still sickened by this whole thing and think ALL of them should have gotten the death penalty if only to save our precious air supple cause they sure as hell don’t deserve it. Waste of spaces is what they are.

Such a very sad and heartbreaking story. I’ve never heard of Chris Gray or even what happened to him, until today. Thanks only to a few short paragraphed news reports on top leading news sites. (That disgusts me !!!) This crime and the aftermath should have been on every news channel.

Michael is the father of her baby. 2 The recordings of the phone conversations are false… The conversations are sealed and are not being released until the full investigation is complete. Amber drove Chris there thinking he was going to be beaten up, did not know they were going to kill him. Now i understand that rumors fly quick and stories are stretched but this is going a little to far. Now like i said previously, im not defending them at all, what they did was wrong, my prayers go out to Chris’s family, but people need to get their facts straight. Flip the situation around, Lets say you had a loved one, maybe a sister, cousin, best friend, mother, aunt, someone close to you who was a very kind loving sweet person. Always went out of their way to help others… and that person drove someone to a place where he or she thought he was going to get beaten up. She leaves and the others kill him… now your close family member, your sister, your cousin, that you love very much is going away for 25-30 years for a murder she did not commit. But Michael Robie, the Planner for the entire thing is getting charged with conspiracy on first degree assault… tell me how this feels or even works out? Amber was a kind, loving little girl, always good grades in school, loved everyone, loved all animals, she would get mad if he brothers were to rough with one another, mad if someone harmed an animal, very protective of her family…. then she met michael robie who completely over powered her and abused her. She was 17 years old, pregnant, going to school, working and paying the rent on their house by herself. Mike lvied off her until he went to jail, time and anthony didnt work and didnt pay rent. So at 17 and pregnant, she has to support 3 grown teens, herself, go to scool and work at night, cook, clean, do everyones laundry, pay all the bills…. etc. Now i dont know why she would even drive chris their in the first place because that is way out of character for her especially knowing he was going to be beaten up. What i do know is that she was scared of Michael and his repercussion… She had 5 random hospital visits within a year span for “falling down stairs” and other random “acts” which were cover ups for Michael abusing her. So i feel that she did it because Michael said so. Now once again. I am not trying to justify this crime. It is not justifiable. What was done was very wrong, very sad, a tragic loss of life of a good kid. It was cold hearted and way out of line. Again, my blessings go out to Chris’s family and friends. I just want people to know the real amber Talbot, not the one that the tabloids and false reports make her out to be. Amber has always been a good girl with a good head on her shoulders, and now she is suffering with the consequences of her actions. And the one who planned it all is getting off with assault. I do feel that amber does deserve punishment for her actions, but if anything the sentences should be flipped… amber with accessory for assault, and mike with conspiracy to commit murder. To be honest with you “I” often wonder if she really went anywhere that night. A call to her cell phone at 2am does not prove she was NOT there.

You claim that she did not know that he was going to be killed and that Michael should take more blame because he was the one who wanted him murdered, yet the majority of the conversations and I mean hours and hours of conversations were between Mike and Amber talking about killing Chris. Thank you for posting and giving us a true picture of Gary’s life. The thing that angers me the most of this whole situation is that Gary had so many challenges in his life–challenges that were thrust upon him, rather than by choices he made–and he MET those challenges and actively worked to overcome them. He sounds like an amazing man.
The murderers didn’t have any developmental/medical challenges; yet, they were lazy, and selfish. They didn’t fight to overcome things or struggle to better themselves. They were apparently content to whine and bitch about their lives and perceived offenses.
I honestly believe that with Gary’s death, we lost a person of far greater worth than all four of these whiny, punk-ass murderers put together. You have my deepest condolences!!

This is true, I must tell you that I did not become Chris’s guardian because someone appointed me as such or because it was forced on him. Chris and I knew each other for years…when he felt him self sinking within the system he came to me…he reached out to me for help. We together went to the court and he asked the Judge to appoint me as his guardian so that I could help him hurdle some of the humps in life he just could not get over on his own…He trusted me and knew that I would be there for him no mater what. He was a great kid..Together we made a great team and he was truly going somewhere in life..it makes my heart so sad to think he will never get there now….
How tragic. If those kids had been taught the way to live and chose to follow the right way, they could have been a blessing to Chris. I wish so much that I might have known him. I work with adults with disabilities. They are wonderful and fun. Yes evil flourishes and the vulnerable ones need to be guided carefully without squashing their independence. I pray for his “guardian” . I pray for peace for her. She needs to experience that she can still help others that need protection and guidance in this insane world. May God go with you Christopher.

I have worked with people with disabilities all of my life, my mother had a shared home when I was a child and when I went out on my own I began doing the same thing. This is how I met Chris to begin with…I still work with folks with disabilities but am not anyone’s guardian. I struggled daily on how to give him as much independence as I could yet help him make wise choices…When Chis and I spoke that night before he left work, the plan was NOT to go to their house…He did NOT want to go hang out with them…They asked and he declined. He was going to visit another friend..they offered him a ride to his friends house…that is how they got him in the car…
Thank God I live in Los Angeles where you KNOW who to avoid and shit like this rarely happens. Out in Bum F@ck backwoods nowhere, I would be scared as shit to go. Nothing to do but be all Methed out and think up ways to impregnate each other and worship the devil or whatever the hell goes on out there.
