UPDATE: Scott Wade Smith
Here’s an update on our own Greensburg zero, Scott Wade Smith.
Smith has been charged with rape of a child causing serious bodily injury, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and endangering the welfare of children for and incident involving his girlfriend’s 5 momth old baby.
Smith, now 19, tells investigators he had issues and sometimes did things he knew were wrong. His current record boasts pending charges of endangering the welfare of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated assault, and last but not least rape of a 5 month-old baby girl.
Evidence brought forward at a preliminary hearing for Smith included a conversation he had with a detective where he said, “I know I have a problem. There are things I want to do, and there are things I don’t want to do, but I do anyway.” Wow, what a breakthrough. He also said that he could sometimes see things happen in the future and that he had mental health issues.
Smith has yet to confess to the crime and maintains his story about the baby choking on a crayon. I’ve choked on many a crayon in my day and I can assure the courts that symptoms do not include mangled and torn genitals. At this time Smith is still jailed and being held for $1 million bond. After some exhaustive searching, further information about a trial date cannot currently be located.

That was just sick and wrong! I have a 5 month old son and I can’t possibly even imagining such a horrendous thing happening to a baby. Does anyone have news on the baby and the mother and how they are doing?
Yuck. I hate these kinds of “people”. There are times that I really did wish that the legal punishments really did fit the crime….This is one of those times. He really would have some “issues” to cry about then. Sick pig.
I cannot stand sickos like this. This guy is a self-centered, selfish little prick. He needed to get off so he put an innocent babies life at risk. I am not sure if people realise that approximately 4 children die everyday in the U.S as a result of child abuse or child neglect. This is a serious problem and any asshole that does not see a child as a person needs to be locked up forever.

There is an upside to him not admitiing his crime…Judges tend to dislike crims who wase their time by dragging things out with the ‘insanity’ defense, when they are not insane but rather just big assholes, and they end up getting a longer sentence.
He is insane. What sane person would do what he did? What he did is terrible and he deserves to be fully prosecuted, but he IS insane.

She probably really believed that, at least initially. I had an uncle who was being charged with molesting his daughters and I didn’t believe he had done it until my mom told me he had raped her when she was little. That really opened my eyes to the reality that you can really know a person and believe them to be good and later find out you were dead wrong. By the time you find out someone is capable of rape it is too late – you only know because they have done it.
I thought the mom was saying that she didn’t ever leave the baby alone with Scott, and that it was Scott’s mom who left the child in his care? I’m gonna have to go re read now. I’m confused.
This fucker is the lowest of the low. He will never be rehabilitated, so he needs to just die. I had a friend from South America who told me that in the small town he was from, if someone raped a child, the villagers would totrure them by beating them mob style, dousing them with gas, and lighting them on fire. They would put the fire out and do it again. For some reason, this seems so fitting. That poor little girl. How can a grown man look at a little tiny baby girl and even think to do something like that?
Guys like this never change – it’s a proven fact. I came to believe long ago that people like Scott Wade Smith should never breath free air again. It’s not their fault, they’re sick bastards, but that doesn’t mean I have to put my children and grandchildren in peril. Lock Scott and everyone like him in an institution far away from ANY children, give them the best treatment possible, but keep them out of society forever. In a civilized society it’s the job of the adults to protect the most precious members of that society from the lowest, most worthless members, and that’s exactly what we’re doing when we toss shit like Scot Wade Smith in his institution and through the fucking key away. I need help.” Sounds like to me that he was aware of his problems, and maybe shoulda sought help before allowing himself to RAPE A BABY!!!
I ran an ambulance call the other day at a house that we get called to frequently. The kid there (he’s about 21) is always beating up his mom, or his girlfriend, etc… But when we get there he is always the one crying. “I need help!”, he always says. Then I step out of the way and let the police take him to jail, or whatever mental health facility he’s hitting up this week. He always goes to get help when he is in trouble… But never when he’s not. It’s repulsive.
Fry this fucker. Any man ever hurt my son, who is 6 months old, I would torture them after putting them on a meat hook and a bucket under them to catch any fluids…oh and after ripping their tongue out so no one could hear them scream. As far as I am concerned, this cunt lost all rights to life.

I found a this story while looking up information about 5 month old milestones, my daughter is 5 months right now and when I read the story I was filled with RAGE! He better get life because if I ran into him in public I would kill him.

I came across an old forum on cafemom where I posted comments from last year when this crime occurred. I was wondering what happened [if anything] to Smith and more importantly, how the baby and her mother are doing. Does anyone know?

Rape over and over by the inmates would be nothing. I’m watching a 5 month old right now, and he is not even two feet tall. A much, much larger instrument would be needed to rape someone 6 feet tall for the bastard to suffer even a small amount of what he deserves
Seeing as how this piss poor example of a human being will not be executed for his most heinous crime, as a matter of fact the state will have to protect him now from the general prison population that would exact revenge on him, SO he should never see the out side of a prison cell again in his life, (where do people like this come from?) Nothing can take away the pain of what this individual has caused. Devaluating, degrading this individual to a sub human being, wishing him Hell and torture however, simply throws us a few hundred years back in history.
When will we realize that it is our society which triggers those people to do whatever they like.
It is our point of view regarding sexuality, nudity, we need to reconsider.
As long as we stick to condemning those we wish not to identify with, seeing them as monsters, monstrous behaviour will remain a fact in our society.
We have been locking up and even executing people for centuries. Still it happens, we didn’t even succeed in decreasing this behaviour even for a bit.

Devaluing and degrading him serves a distinctly human service. You don’t seem to understand how human minds form. Children and adults need to regularly be reminded of which society they belong to and the rules whenever either events trigger a reset of human norms or there’s no established set for the individual to grasp onto. If we go 100 years without a baby raping, we technically need an oral history of the last baby raper, to help reinforce that the action is wrong for people incapable of reasoning it out for themselves.
I defy you to find something “in” out society, that triggered this. Using behaviorism to describe his actions is dishonest both intellectually and factually. You’re trying to attack puritanism for this action, but that doesn’t excuse the action nor does it explain it.

The human race has successfully used pejorative words to identify something they despise about their group to define crimes, separate into subsets and navigate some fairly dangerous times in our developmental life cycle. These adaptations required the definition of demonstrably separating language. Rather than a throw back, hundreds of years, it’s a 6,000 + year, documented process of making the human race better through moralist progress.
Monster, for example, comes from the word to monitor and warn. It comes from a time of dogma regarding bad omens, but taking notice and curing a problem “demonstrably” comes from an evolution of our use of the words to define what is right and what is wrong.
You haven’t been paying attention to statistics then. It may happen, but the percentage of events to population fluctuates, is better reported and is dealt with better generationally.
Better the mob voices these concerns and considerations than they act on the impulse. Better a verbal and digital mob than an actual one. Better talking about it, rather than leaving it in the dark. There’s something instinctual about wanting to protect a baby and a girl from a monster. There’s something beautiful about compassion for a victim and the family of a victim. There remains a series of angry, brutal and unfortunate things about the way we speak to one another, but language is a knife that is sharpened with use and guided with patience. Your admonition is in fact derived from the same place as the insults these folk added. It’s the same place where my “correction” of you is derived. Take a mirror to your words and realize, that while you don’t advocate the death and torture of the suspect, you are not supporting the victim and instead are torturing the victim’s family and the eventual victim when you excuse her rapist’s actions by calling them cultural.
You don’t seem to understand what it is you’re doing, or you wouldn’t do it that way.

I believe in logic, so causality is an iffy subject here. There are at least three types of causes you could be referring to:
1. The legal cause
2. The physical cause
3. The moral cause
His legal cause was unmonitored access, combined with morbid interest, connected with deviant action, leading to a criminal assault.
His physical cause (which includes his psychological cause) was lack or limited inhibition, fetish, unmet desire, and instinctual arousal.
His moral cause was lack of context, lack of inhibition and lack of alternate purpose(defending the child is usually a moral cause).
If you’d like to tie some societal institution to this, Noam Chomsky has spent thousands of pages doing it poorly. Causality is going to be a difficult argument to make to me or any others without finding some sort of conceded ground to solve this. You’re in luck, I’m a bleeding heart liberal, and have read the majority of the works associated with the topic, so if you’d like to crib off of the major names, you may annotate to their works.
